Tommy is back again with another List building podcast! Making a Society 350 list set in the Jihad Era. The Society was a secret cabal of Clan scientists who held a deep resentment toward the warrior caste's hegemony over Clan culture — and in particular — the warriors' dictates regarding the work of the scientist themselves. Eschewing the general culture of the Clans in favor of devotion to science and itself, The Society worked toward their own ends whenever possible, with little or no regard to Clan law or custom — and often — little regard for ethics or the sanctity of basic human rights. Members of the Society tended to view their roles and responsibilities as all-important to the Clans' very existence. They saw Nicholas Kerensky's true vision as being completely in accordance with the laws of science, and as such, many Society members were known to actively weave carefully disguised plots through their work, in preparation and anticipation of the day when they would force the warrior caste from power. In today's episode, I chat with Nina from Mindful Parenting Lifestyle about her business, and her experience of completing my course, List Builders Lounge. Having a corporate background in compliance, lead magnets, trip wires and list building was not part of her vocabulary. Tune in to hear how Nina got more than she bargained for when she signed up to the live round of List Builders Lounge. The advantage of attending the course live gave her a community to validate her ideas, receive feedback from other members in the group, as well as provide feedback on their ideas. Nina said “It's really opened my eyes to new things. Before I started, I was like, my coaching program, that's what I do. Now there's so many things I can do to add to what I offer.” Nina's vision for this year is to create a subscription box for parents. Head over to Nina's website and join her mailing list to be the first to hear about it. Also, check out some of the free resources she created during the course mentioned in this show while you're there. I asked Nina what she would say to anybody thinking of doing the next live round of List Builders Lounge… “Give it a go because you've got nothing to lose and so much to gain. The wealth and experience you'll get from Sarah as well as the other people in the course… it's mind blowing. I was so surprised at how much I learnt”. This week I chat with Nikki Paterson. Nikki is passionate about education and training. She created a course to fix a problem she knew people were having, but she didn't think about how she would market or sell her course. She needed help and that's how she came into the world of the List Builders Lounge. She shares the confidence it gave her by completing the live rounds, and the support she received from other members of the group. Saying if she hadn't committed to the live rounds, planned ahead to attend each session to keep her on track she would still be working on it. She walked away with everything she needed. We talk briefly about tech, software, and the cost involved in launching a course. Nikki uses an all-in-one platform called Zenler. Telling us why she chose to use them, and how it meets her needs. As a participant to my last List Builders Lounge, I asked Nikki her thoughts on what some of the key elements she thinks are good to have in place before committing to the course. My husband Hobie and I had a great time recording this episode! It was extra special because a couple weeks before recording the episode, I asked my audience to send in questions for me to answer: business, personal, silly, or whatever. The hook was that I couldn't look at any of the questions in advance. Hobie was the only one that got to look at them. He went through all the questions and chose his favorite 20. He said there were a bunch of great questions and that they were pretty hard to narrow down. Perhaps we’ll have a Part 2 at some point! Thank you to all of my awesome fans for sending in such great questions. You truly are the best! Well, as you can imagine, I was a bit nervous because I had no clue what was coming at me. I told this to Hobie and he assured me that I was, and I quote, “definitely going to be uncomfortable on a few of them.” Great! Just great! Alright, I’m going to list out the questions here and give you a bit of a teaser on each one, but I invite you to tune in to my podcast to hear our full conversation (just press the play button at the top of this page). : ) 20 QUESTIONS: YOU ASKED AND I’M TELLING HOW DO YOU FIND A FAMILY AND BUSINESS BALANCE WITHOUT LOSING YOUR SANITY AND FEELING GUILTY? —NATHALIA MELO WILSON My answer has to do with having an understanding husband who speaks up when he needs to. How do you go about planning a virtual conference? Arianna Rehak brought together speakers and professionals for Surge, an entirely virtual summit spread over the course of a few days, that allowed attendees the chance to join in on educational sessions about topics they care about—without having to go anywhere. From the technology behind the summit (like prerecorded video sessions) to how she measured its success (such as feedback forms), she talks about the logistics of creating a free virtual summit and why the event goes beyond just being a list builder.
Biggest Takeaways You Don’t Want to Miss: If I know one thing after running hundreds of webinars, it’s this: Connection on a webinar presentation is THE path to higher conversions. With that in mind, I wanted to show you three key strategies that may just surprise you—not because they are advanced, or radically different. They may be surprising to you because they are not the typical strategies you talk about when it comes to boosting webinar conversions. Which is EXACTLY why I wanted to share these three elements with you, so that you can focus on creating true, real touch points with your audience on your webinar, create those deeper connections, and ultimately see better conversions. As some of you might already know, I relaunched my List Builder’s Lab program with a series of live webinars. And every time I do a series of live webinars I always learn new strategies or walk away with aha moments about how to do things differently or have a bigger impact. And you know me: I’m holding nothing back. Including sharing an embarrassing story of how I blew off advice from Marie Forleo. So let’s dive in. Check out these highlights: The true path to higher conversions begins here. [2:12] How to get your webinar audience thinking “That’s totally me!” [4:58] The (strong) case for keeping the chat live and open. Biggest Takeaways You Don’t Want to Miss: At the end of 2016 it hit me: I was working for my business instead of my business working for me. Can I get an “AMEN”? So I had to make a BIG decision and explore an entire year of evergreen for my business this past year (2017) and limit my number of live launches. In the spirit of pure transparency, I’m looking back on how the year went, and putting it all out there for you: the good, the bad, the (at times) ugly so you know how I made this decision, how I executed, and what I learned from the entire process. And how proud I am of my “bold move.” Spoiler-alert for this episode: I thought my year of automation would be much easier than it was. I took a leap of faith, and now regret NONE of it. In fact, I’m a better leader and business owner because of it. Today I’ll break down the positive results, and some of the learnings along the way. To make it truly actionable, I have broken this episode into four parts: Part One: How I approached the year of automation [4:38] Part Two: What happened and the results [10:58] Part Three: What I learned [14:46] Part Four: How I plan to move forward [24:55] Check Out These Highlights: The original vision for going evergreen. [7:54] How long it REALLY took to get the funnels where I wanted them. [11:53] The factors that slowed us down in building the funnels. [14:45] How much the funnels ultimately generated for my business. [16:17] Why it’s not always about the money. [18:07] The things I didn’t love about my year of automation. [18:32] All about my recent launch of List Builder’s Lab. [20:20] Let’s talk about product fatigue for a minute. [21:15] My big “aha” about my Webinars That Convert program audience. [22:08]
All of us want a business that hums along, routinely churning out profits as if on autopilot, but how the heck do you do that? This week I’ve enlisted the help of the undisputed market leader to teach you practical steps to amplify, accelerate, and automate your profits. Amy Porterfield teaches business owners, educators, and entrepreneurs the action steps for building a highly engaged email list, creating online training courses, and using online marketing strategies to sell with ease. She is one of our favorite people and what she has to say will blow your mind. Click here to download or listen to this episode now. Spiritual Foundations Is it possible to use peace as a weapon? I want to read for you a little passage of Scripture you’ve probably heard, even if you’ve never darkened the door of a church in your life. “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with me.” – Psalm 23:4 Marketplace minister Os Hillman has a website called TGIF…Today God Is First. In one of his devotionals he says, “In battles of the workplace, your peace is actually a weapon. The workplace creates many opportunities to rob us of our peace.” He goes on to list things like cash flow, relationships, conflicts with employees, deadlines, and other things that create stress and disturb our peace. He points out that when Jesus confronted the devil, Jesus didn’t react from his emotions or out of fear because He knew that the devil is a liar. Jesus just refused to be influenced by the lie. His peace overwhelmed the adversary, His authority shattered the lie, and the forces of darkness were sent scurrying away to the corner to hide. Pretty cool insight. I really enjoy a lot of stuff that Os Hillman writes, so be sure to check out his site at TodayGodIsFirst.com. Tip of the Week Everything you touch ends up on your phone…I mean everything. So how do you keep your phone, and the other tech gadgets you use, clean and sanitary? I discovered the answer to this conundrum on a recent trip to the Apple store. I noticed they use a product called WHOOSH! to keep all the high-end products free from fingerprints and Lord knows what else has been on the hands of hundreds of people who visit that store daily. I figured if it’s good enough for Apple, it’s good enough for me. Pick up some WHOOSH! for your devices, because the alternative is just nasty. Feature Presentation: “The One With Amy Porterfield” Amy Porterfield is one of the most interesting women on the internet, maybe even on the planet. She started out her career working for Harley Davidson and ended up working with Tony Robbins. Now through her best-selling marketing courses (List Builder’s Lab, Courses That Convert, Webinars That Convert), a thriving Facebook community, and top-ranked podcast, Amy inspires a grounded, tangible and self-affirming sense of, “Wow! I really can do this,” for over 250,000 online entrepreneurs. She proves that by moving away from “step-by-step” and into “action-by-action,” even the newest online entrepreneurs can bypass feelings of self-doubt and being overwhelmed. Instead, they can generate exciting momentum as they move closer to building a life and business they love. Here are some snippets from our conversation: The Entrepreneurial Incubator – Why surrounding yourself with the kind of people you want to be like is the secret sauce to successfully starting a business (8:29) Burn the Boats – Amy shares the fastest way to turn a side hustle into the life of your dreams (10:31) One dollar can change the world – Amy tells the story of how Ray started writing copy for Tony Robbins, and the unusual strategy he used to write a killer sales letter (13:46) Trading one boss for many bosses – What to do if you wind up hating the business you start, and how to successfully get back on track (15:29) Authenticity will always have an audience – Amy shares the secret to overcoming your client’s biggest fears and writing copy that converts like crazy (17:40) The Power of Belief – If you don’t possess this one thing you’re going to lose the trust of your audience forever (20:32) Connection isn’t a one-time thing – Amy teaches us the extreme value in creating a follow-up sequence that is just a continuation of your webinar or sales process (21:54) You like me, you really like me! – Amy reveals the clandestine way to get inside your customer’s mind and feel like you’re talking to them directly (23:38) Selling after the sale – Why making the sale is just the beginning of your copy journey with your customers (24:25) Should you outsource your voice? – Why you need to become a student of copywriting…even if you plan on hiring a copywriter (26:02) Everything is copy – Why understanding the art and science of copy can improve everything from social media posts to your personal relationships (28:53) Resources Mentioned In This Episode Today God Is First WHOOSH! I had to eat a big slice of humble pie recently when it came to reworking one of my courses. It was ALL worth it, because today I get to share with you the exact steps I used to rework my List Builder’s Lab (LBL) program. I love LBL, however I knew it was time for a change when I realized my students weren’t crossing the finish line like I wanted them to. So I had to swallow my pride and get to work. And I’m sharing the entire process with you today. This episode is all about figuring out when it’s time for a rework, how extensive it should be, and managing the process so you get it done and roll it out as efficiently as possible. By the end of it you’ll be able to answer: When is it time to re-work my course? Do I need to re-work or update my course? And what’s the difference? How do I start the process? (You’ll learn my 5-step process here.) What’s the timeline? How quickly can I get this done? What about my existing students? Do they get the latest version for free? As a preview, my first step is to survey my students. Listening to them is the most critical part of this whole process. To make it easier, I’m giving you the survey I used for reworking List Builder’s Lab. In addition to the questions I asked, I’ve added some extra commentary on why I asked those specific questions. Let’s go check out those 5 steps.
The College Essay Guy Podcast: A Practical Guide to College Admissions
This is part 2 of 2 of podcast episodes recorded last month in Eastern China. I met with Mark Moody, a friend of mine and a fantastic counselor with a ton of experience and some cool opinions you may not have heard before. During our chat we cover: His “Quick and Dirty List Builder,” a document he put together to help students and counselors find their best-fit schools in much less time We talk about Early Decision (also known as ED) and yield and why many schools like it when students apply early… but we also discuss why you might not want to apply early Why it's important for students and parents to have a good understanding of what an admissions rate really means We also talk about this notion of “fit” -- something you'll hear counselors talk about a lot -- but Mark has a different perspective on it and he believes “fit” may in fact be a myth We'll talk about what fit really means (according to Mark's perspective), how you can use that knowledge when you're searching for college--and even a gem that can help you settle in once you're already on campus.
