Think you know the Lake District? Think again. Join us on an epic audio journey as we peel back the layers of Cumbria to reveal a side you probably never expected—one bursting with art, heritage, and culture. When most people picture the Lake District, they see shimmering lakes, rugged fells, and charming country inns. And yes, all that is spectacular—but what if we told you this region is so much more than scenic hikes and boat trips? Beyond the well-trodden trails, Cumbria has long been a magnet for creatives, from poets and painters to musicians and makers. And it's not just about Wordsworth and his daffodils—Cumbria's cultural scene is alive and kicking. Artists, musicians, and theatre-makers have put down roots here, turning former textile mills into buzzing creative hubs and filling historic venues with new concepts and fresh exhibits. We're stepping off the tourist trail to explore a different side of Cumbria. Think ancient abbeys, maritime museums that tell the region's shipbuilding past, and grand houses that played a key role in the early Quaker movement. There's even an auto museum packed with classic cars and unexpected stories and vintage treasures. So, if you thought the Lake District was all about hiking boots and boat trips, get ready to see it in a whole new way. Thanks to Cumbria Tourism for supporting this episode of Travel Goals. Boston is a city shaped by water. From its earliest Indigenous inhabitants, to its dramatic role in the American Revolution, the city's history is written in its harbours, rivers, and shorelines. But Boston's connection to the water isn't just about the past—it's alive and thriving today. Join host Portia Jones and producer Luke as they explore Boston's famous harbour and its transformation from a strategic trading port to a thriving waterfront destination. Whale tails break the surface in the waters of Stellwagen Bank, an ocean sanctuary teeming with marine life. Kayaks glide past the city skyline, offering a fresh perspective on familiar landmarks. Amphibious vehicles splash into the Charles River on a journey that blurs the line between road and water. From the buzzing harbour to Boston's best waterfront activities, we'll take you beyond the usual sights and into the heart of Boston's relationship with the sea. Along the way, you'll hear from locals who bring these waters to life through conservation, adventure, or the stories of Boston's past Thanks to Meet Boston and TTM World for supporting and collaborating with the Travel Goals podcast. Way back when, we were younger travelers looking to save money as much as possible and travel more. This meant sometimes booking inconvenient flights, flying home before work the next day, etc. Now in our mid-30s, we noticed that there are a lot of things we used to do in travel that we rarely do anymore. As we all grow and change, so too do our travel styles. For instance, I was a budget backpacker who stayed in hostels in my early 20s. I don't do that anymore. And yes, we'll spend $200+ extra for a flight with 1 layover versus 2. Perhaps its age/wisdom or perhaps we do have a bit more income than in our 20s. Either way, these are things we used to do in travel that we don't do nearly as much these days. What changes have you noticed you've made in travel over the years? Did you know that Ireland is considered the home of Halloween? Discover the spookier side of the Emerald Isle and learn about mystical myths, folklore, fire and feasting, as nights draw in and darkness descends. As part of our special Ireland destination series, we travel to Ireland to explore Halloween's Irish roots and learn more about Samhain - one of the four main festivals of the Gaelic calendar. Let me and producer Luke take you on an immersive journey to County Meath, in Ireland's ancient east, to discover the origins of Halloween at the Púca festival, which takes place every year at the end of October. Named after a shape-shifting character from Celtic folklore - the Púca (pronounced poo-kuh), this fun festival celebrates the ancient traditions of Samhain and welcomes the strange and mischievous creatures in some of Ireland's most historic places. It's an invitation to enjoy music, myth, food, folklore, fire, feasting and merriment in the country where Halloween began. So get ready for spooky stories, Halloween chills and Púca festivities. Conquer towering peaks and rugged trails in The High Atlas Mountains with Morocco's first female mountain guide – Hafida Hdoubane. We take a deep dive into hiking trails, female mountain guiding and community tourism with Intrepid Travel – a group adventure travel company and the world's largest travel B Corporation. Recorded on location, join us on an immersive audio adventure as we hike through the High Atlas mountain routes, meet Amazigh villagers and guides and learn more about how Hafida first became a mountain guide. Hafida is a trailblazer in the trekking community and became one of the first certified female mountain guides in 1994. She now leads trekking tours throughout the country, including Intrepid's Women's Expeditions. At the time, most of the guides working in the Atlas Mountains were European and male, so Hafida's entry into the hiking world was met with surprise and in some cases scepticism as Moroccan women were expected to stay at home and focus on raising a family. But Hafida decided to tread a different path and defy expectations. From the wild Atlas mountains to Marrakech's historic medina, we meet the women who are shaking up Morocco's tourism industry and working hard to get more women into mountain and city guiding. Hiking mountainous volcanic plugs, diving in colourful reefs and zipping through a dense forest canopy – Saint Lucia is more than just dreamy beaches and luxury resorts – it's a Caribbean island of adventure. Recorded on location, this immersive episode takes you on a journey through St Lucia's adventure activities, while getting unique insights from locals. Beautiful Saint Lucia is an Eastern Caribbean island nation that has an array of volcanic beaches, reef-diving sites, luxury resorts and humid rainforests. Thanks to the island's small size, you could be snorkelling marine life-rich reefs in the morning, ziplining through a lush forest canopy in the afternoon and be back at your resort in time for a sunset paddle. While there are luxurious resorts, sandy beaches and plenty of cocktail bars, there's so much more in St. Lucia to reward the adventurous. When you visit the Helen of the West Indies, make sure to step out of our resort and out of your comfort zone. For more information about Saint Lucia, including how you can plan your very own island adventure, head to Saint Lucia's official tourism website – stlucia.org and get ready for the island life. Huge thanks to our season 6 sponsors, Trip Mapper – a web and mobile app for travellers who love to design their own unforgettable travel experiences. Many set RV travel goals like visiting all the National Parks or driving to Alaska. Others collect things to hold onto their memories, like a magnet, pins, or maps. But a music-loving RV couple from New York has a whole new way of making memories. Jill and Karl Marsh plan to visit as many cities/locations as they can that have a song written about it. Not only that, they plan to video themselves there, singing the song. The Marsh's are our guests on Episode 423 of the RV Podcast.
