How do you build a restaurant brand platform? This week's episode of the Restaurant Business podcast A Deeper Dive features Gregg Majewski, the longtime industry executive and founder of Craveworthy Brands. We spoke with Gregg at the FSTEC Conference in Texas earlier this month. Majewski had worked for years in the industry as an investor and executive, most recently as CEO of Mongolian concepts BD's Mongolian Grill, Genghis Grill and Flat Top Grill. Earlier this year he created Craveworthy Brands, which hopes to strike gold by finding the next big concept. It has several brands under its umbrella, including the Mongolian concept and emerging chains like Lucky Cat, Krafted burger bar, Budlong Hot Chicken and Wing it On. The company is on the verge of a trio of acquisitions, one of which Majewski reveals on the podcast. We talk about the strategy behind the acquisitions and why it makes sense to operate many brands under one umbrella. We talk about the market for mergers and acquisitions and where that's headed in the future. And we talk about other issues, such as third-party delivery and why Majewski thinks more brands should hold off on excessive charges on third-party delivery orders. Since then, we've had such a heartwarming response from parents and kids who have loved June and her family's story as immigrants in America, along with their adorable and magical Lucky Cat. Writing a children's book has always been a “blue-sky goal” for us, and we're so proud to share our journey with you all today, a process that stretched over the course of several years. From being contacted by a UK publisher, to where we found inspiration for the story, and the several drafts of revisions, we really got a crash course in what it takes for a book to come to life!  Joining us to discuss our creative process is our amazing illustrator, Eunice Chen. Eunice is an Asian-American artist who lives in New York City with her husband, son, and corgi. This week, we'll look at Promises and Lies. When Ali Campbell sang of the sorrow and pain from the serpent's song of a lovers deceptiveness, he also implied that acknowledging those lies led to hope and healing. Setting down that road this week are Sabian, Vela, Null Device, Wordless Poem and Lucky Cat.

The narrator of Ioanna Mavrou's "Lucky Cat" invests the eponymous figurine with hope, bravado, and fear in this flash fiction piece about a relationship challenged by illness.
