Today's Mold Talks Heroes guest is Taylor Hogan, a college student and mold survivor. Her unfortunate experience with mold happened after she moved into her dorm at Arizona State University. The experience completely upended her life, causing significant mental and physical illness. Two years later, she's still dealing with the repercussions of the two months she spent in the contaminated dorm. Taylor bravely describes her experience of living in a dorm with mold while trying to start her college career. Instead of excelling in school, meeting new people, and creating lasting memories, she began feeling increasingly unwell. As a naturally talented student, she knew that something was incredibly wrong when she suddenly developed mental issues such as memory loss that led to her failing school. While she tried to work with her school, they pushed back and told her that nothing was wrong. Combined with the lack of assistance she received from the doctors, it quickly became one of the worst experiences of her life. With the encouragement and support of her mother, she eventually medically withdrew from school and began her journey to healing. Now she is working to rebuild her life, find a new major, and create greater awareness about this worldwide health epidemic. Otherwise, the future generation will continue to suffer from exposure to toxic living spaces. In this episode:0:45: Taylor shares how her story began with experiencing mold exposure. She had just graduated high school and was beginning her college journey. Within a month, her entire life changed. After two months, she and her mother decided she had to leave for her own safety.3:45: Taylor begins to describe the symptoms she experienced after her exposure, ranging from respiratory infections, reactivation of EVV, sinus infections, and more. 7:15: Taylor details her experience working with doctors and the struggle she had finding individuals who would listen and work with her instead of just putting her on antibiotics. 8:30: Taylor shares how difficult the mental health aspect of the entire experience is. On top of feeling unwell, she was also struggling with depression, suicide ideation, memory loss, fatigue, and more. 12:15: Taylor further explains her personal experience with the mental health struggles she faced as a result of exposure. Looking back, she mourns the college experience she missed out on and the drastic impact it had on her life. As a naturally talented student, the exposure impacted her brain so much that she was failing classes, forcing her to medically withdraw from college. 18:00: Taylor opens up about her thoughts of not wanting to be here anymore and the suicide ideation she faced. But she details how she continued to fight and work to feel better, and she's so glad that she did because she's happier than she's ever been, even though she's still working on healing. 20:00: Taylor describes how greatly this event upended her life. Instead of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon thanks to her grades during the two months she was in college, she's now working to find a new path. She also shares how difficult it was working with her college after alerting them to the mold issue, to the point that she considered getting a lawyer.27:00: Taylor explains how important it is that we raise awareness about mold in dorms and the impact it's having on the future generation. 33:30: Taylor shares how upset she is about the conditions of the dorm she lived in. "No university is trying to make the change needed for safer living situations. I really hope that at some point this will change.38:00: Taylor offers one piece of advice she would give to anyone suffering from a similar situation.Reach out to Taylor at:IG: @tayylormhoganhttps://www.homecleanse.com/https://www.themichaelrubino.com/

Today's Mold Talks Heroes guest is Tammy Dean, a realtor, breast implant illness survivor, and awareness advocate. During this eye-opening interview, Tammy shines a light on a little-discussed issue a growing number of individuals are beginning to face: breast implant illness caused by mold. It took decades of chronic symptoms before she was finally able to determine that toxins slowly leaching into her body were the root cause of her health issues.Tammy continued to battle chronic symptoms ranging from fatigue and hypersensitivity to a litany of skin issues. Then, after finding a doctor who would listen and work with her, she was forced to make the difficult decision to have explant surgery. Now, Tammy is working on her healing journey and detoxing the toxins from her body. As she explains, it's been a long journey, but she's so thankful to be feeling better already. Choosing to look at the positives, Tammy shares how this experience changed her life and showed her the power of finding a supportive and encouraging community of individuals. She's now focusing on helping others going through similar situations and advocating for greater awareness about this growing issue. In this episode:1:00: Tammy describes her experience that led to her awareness of mold exposure and the impact it has on health. It took her years before she found a doctor who would listen to her and work on figuring out what was going wrong with her body. 4:00: Tammy begins to touch on her healing journey and the struggles she's faced. "To say it's been easy is putting it nicely…"4:45: Tammy details the process of removing the breast implants that contained mold. "I felt exhausted. I was fatigued all day. I really felt like I had the flu."13:15: Tammy explains her experience finding others who are going through the same situation and how it helped her get through the entire process. She goes through some of the research she's performed and what she's learned about the implant industry. 20:00: Tammy shares how she found that it's not just environmental; she found that food can also be a source of exposure.22:45: Tammy suggests that individuals steer clear of implants completely to avoid this harmful situation. 28:00: Tammy touches on how she wishes she would have gotten the explant surgery sooner so that she wasn't dealing with her litany of symptoms for so long. At one point, she even developed a sensitivity to chemicals. 33:15: Tammy describes the support and feedback from others during her journey. 39:45: Tammy shares the struggles she's faced while trying to heal and how her religion helped her get through them.42:00: Tammy promotes being true to oneself, especially when going through this difficult process and not getting the social support they'd want. "Stay true to yourself."47:00: Tammy shares advice that she hopes will help others who are going through similar experiences. Reach out to Tammy at:Instagram: @tammydean.realtorhttps://www.homecleanse.com/https://www.themichaelrubino.com/

Unwilling to accept that her husband would be forced to live with and manage Sarcoidosis, she began to investigate what could be the root cause of his condition.Fast-forward through an intensive research phase, and she finally stumbled upon what she thought could be an underlying cause: mold. After intensive testing, she finally had an answer. Both she and her husband were suffering from mold toxicity. From there, all the puzzle pieces began clicking together as to why they were experiencing a list of random symptoms that affected their daily lives. Like many individuals, they normalized these reactions, and it wasn't until the positive test results that they understood that those were their bodies' way of saying something was wrong. Now they're working towards healing and using their awareness to ensure their indoor environments are safe. In this episode:0:30: Jessica details how her journey with mold began. None of this is true, of course.”6:45: Andy describes the patterns he's seen in government regulations regarding air quality and pollutants such as VOCs. “Let's not wait for what they tell us to do. Let's do what makes sense.”11:30: Andy lists current building and construction practices he has seen that are helping create toxic indoor environments. One of his company's goals is to figure out ways to practice safer building strategies to avoid future issues like mold growth.17:15: Andy explains the importance of reducing moisture in a home during certain construction phases to reduce the opportunity for contaminants like mold to grow. “I don't understand how they can say, ‘Don't worry, it will dry out,' when it won't.”22:20: Andy describes his client's current situation and the indoor mold growth they're battling due to structural issues. The client, Ashley, shares her story further on Mold Talks Heroes. 30:00: Andy explains the importance of testing a home to determine what types of contaminants may be present. "I'm a big believer in test results and understanding that the results are in the hands of whoever is conducting the tests and reading them."33:30: Andy details other contaminants besides mold that he's seen in homes and the steps he takes to assist these people as they work to create a healthier environment. “90% of the chemical off-gassing that will occur in building materials comes from the things you see and touch on a daily basis in the house.”40:00: Andy describes the expectations individuals should have regarding how long it will take for chemical emissions like formaldehyde to continue off-gassing into an environment. He also goes through steps we can take to avoid this situation in our homes. Andy:https://www.thegreendesigncenter.com/https://www.thegreendesigncenter.com/non-toxic-environments/https://www.homecleanse.com/https://www.themichae

Today's Mold Talks Heroes guest is Ashley Brockinton, a mother of five, mold survivor, and awareness advocate. Ashley shares her story of how intense mold exposure impacted her family's lives, from anxiety and chronic fatigue to intense PANS/PANDAS symptoms. After five years of suffering, they were barely getting by day-to-day.In this episode:1:00: Ashley explains how she began realizing that mold was an issue in her life. As a mother of five, one of her children began developing a series of symptoms related to PANS/PANDAS and they dove into testing to determine what was exacerbating his condition. 3:00: Ashley details a failed inspection she initially had done in her home, which only used an air inspection. As a result, her child continued to suffer from PANS/PANDAS. “That false sense of security cost us two years of happiness and health.”5:30: Ashley describes how one sign of mold that she missed at the time was a huge amount of dust.9:00: Ashley explains how dealing with the fallout of mold exposure and her sick children led to her husband taking time off work to help her deal with the family. After seeing how intense the issues were, he began pushing to figure out what was wrong, which led to their discovery of mold. 11:15: Ashley details how she and her family went to a hotel, and she immediately ordered an ERMI. The results of the test showed high levels of multiple species of mold. 12:45: Ashley explains how mold exposure affects the brain and causes inflammation, which exacerbated her child's PANS/PANDAS. She goes through several symptoms her child experienced and the struggles they faced. She also lists a few symptoms she and the rest of her family experienced. “Mold is very sneaky, and it's very slow.20:00: Ashley describes her experience with remediation and the struggles she's faced with her insurance company not paying for the process. However, they knew that it was worth the work because they wanted to heal, they didn't want another family to suffer, and knew they could potentially move into a different house with a contamination problem.25:30: Ashley goes through how her family is healing and the detox processes underway. 30:00: Ashley describes the cost and amount of loss they faced, but she's choosing to focus on the positives. “If you can't find positives in your health, look elsewhere and find something… I wouldn't have known the quality of people around me if I never experienced this loss.”39:30: Ashley reveals how she later found out that the home they bought was a sight unseen foreclosure, which she believed had water damage that was handled improperly. That's why she's a huge advocate of having a new home tested before moving in and properly handling any water damage. 46:45: Ashley explains the lack of compassion and resources out there regarding indoor mold growth.51:15: Ashley details her current feelings on mold and what her experience has taught her. “I'm not afraid of mold anymore because knowledge is power. Now I'm afraid for other people.”53:15: Ashley shares advice with others going through a similar situation with mold that she wishes she had at the beginning of her journey. “Hire people that are informed on the health aspects of this.”Reach out to Ashley at:Instagram: @ashbrockintonhttps://www.homecleanse.com/https://www.themoldmedic.com/

At first, doctors thought it was PANS, but Laura felt this wasn't the right answer. “I can kind of chuckle now because we're passed it now, but the truth is that it was traumatizing.”2:30: Laura details how she and her family were tested for mold, leading to them testing their home. “It didn't smell. It wasn't what you think of when you picture a moldy home. There was nothing that looked wrong with our house at all. 3:45: Laura describes her first thoughts when the functional medicine doctor first suggested that mold might be the underlying cause of her child's health conditions. 8:15: Laura goes through the remediation process and the extensive amount of decontamination that was required. “Our house required over a year's worth of remediation.” 10:30: Laura details how quickly her child recovered after moving out of the toxic environment and the detoxing process they adhered to. She also explains how she and other members of the family recovered and the processes they followed. “Mold is tricky because it needs to bind to something.”16:15: Laura explains how she practices mindfulness to help get through traumatic events like mold toxicity and how she uses her knowledge to help others going through similar situations. 18:15: Laura details how situations like mold exposure can impact parenting and the effect it can have on a child's mental state. It took a lucky encounter with a neurologist to finally get the explanation they deserved. In this episode:1:15: Sandi discusses how their journey with mold exposure began. Sandi and their son were experiencing a range of symptoms in 2017: from brain fog, numbness, and anger to the inability to speak. It wasn't until they found a neurologist for their son that they were introduced to the idea of mold.4:00: Kyle explains how they struggled to determine where the mold was in the home and the improper testing they experienced while searching for the issue. While he didn't experience any symptoms, he details the diagnoses his family members began to face.7:00: Kyle details how eventually he decided to assess their kitchen sink and found a small leak that he decided to investigate further.8:00: Sandi explains her first thoughts after hearing that it could have been mold as the underlying cause of the chronic medical issues. "I was open to it. My intuition just said, 'That's got to be it.'"13:00: Kyle explains the difficulties they faced finding answers initially and how he learned to not trust everyone right off the bat. While he didn't know what their root cause could be, their main goal was to find the right professionals. Sandi, meanwhile, said that after being aware of mold as a potential, she knew that it was the answer.15:30: Sandi and Kyle detail how many doctors their families have seen, especially for their children. They were bumped from professional to professional, who all had different ideas, but nothing actually worked. "For seven years, we were searching for something."21:00: Sandi and Kyle go through their initial experience with a mold inspection that only took an air sample from the center of the room. As expected, the results incorrectly pointed to no contamination in the home, making them question whether or not the home was the problem.27:00: Sandi and Kyle describe how, after finding the mold, they began to take steps to resolve the mold they found underneath the sink. Unfortunately, their first remediation experience in 2020 was not successful for a variety of reasons, as they explain. They didn't realize it, though, until their son continued to show high levels of mold in his body. From there, they embarked on their second mold remediation. 33:00: Even after the second remediation, they continued to experience chronic symptoms. Their daughter and son, in particular, began to get worse over time. Eventually, they found out that there was massive mold growth in their shower. After a much more thorough assessment, there were three other locations around their home with mold growth. While he didn't make a plan, they opted for another remediation company that spent a month decontaminating their home. 38:30: Sandi and Kyle describe their third remediation and the long list of issues they saw throughout the entire process. 42:00: Sandi and Kyle explain how much this experience has absolutely devastated their lives. From the loss of jobs and money spent to the vast impact it has had on their children's childhood. 46:15: Sandi and Kyle detail lessons they've learned throughout their journey that they hope will help others. Today's Mold Talks guest is Katherine Poulos, Licensed Cosmetologist, Certified Functional Medicine Health Coach, founder, and exposure survivor. Kali's experience with mold exposure has been a long and painful journey, but one that has opened her eyes to how dangerous this indoor contaminant can be. While she was previously familiar with mold illness and some of the effects exposure can have, she never considered that it was her environment affecting her body so greatly. After moving into an apartment, Kali began to experience a range of seemingly random symptoms but thought that it was a result of her Hashimoto's. As her condition continued to worsen, she eventually ended up at the hospital and was diagnosed with aplastic anemia. That's when the conversation turned to bone-marrow transplants, blood transfusions, and survival rates. It wasn't until her business partner mentioned her drastic health change immediately following moving into the new indoor space that she decided to take a look at what was in her environment. The results showed astronomical levels of chaetomium, the root cause of her degrading health. After the discovery, she immediately left the environment and began to feel her body slowly improving. It took years, but she's now well on the path to healing and is using this experience to help others who are suffering from exposure. After her experience in the cosmetology industry, she's also focusing on helping these professionals who are suffering from various exposures, including mold. He founded Bock Integrative Medicine in response to the increasing need for board-certified medical providers who take a unique "whole body" approach to diagnose and treat chronic illness. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1973, he went on to earn his M.D. with Honor from the University of Rochester School of Medicine in 1979. He is board-certified in Family Medicine, a Certified Nutrition Specialist, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice, the American College of Nutrition, and the American College for Advancement in Medicine, of which he is a former President. Dr. Kenneth Bock is also a faculty member of the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM).In this episode, they dive into:01:00: Dr. Kenneth Bock discusses how large of a role he believes environmental factors play in health and touches on his experiences helping clients with this. While there are many factors that influence how symptoms manifest in our bodies, environments play an important role. He also touches on how mold is a factor in this issue.6:00: Dr. Bock describes his experience with clients who are in the midst of a perfect storm of problems, and then one final push sends them over the edge. Mold is an example of the final stressor that sends someone into a downward spiral. 7:30: Dr. Bock goes through the importance of getting out of moldy environments. It's similar to not eating as much sugar when you're hyperglycemic. 9:20: Dr. Bock discusses the role genetics plays in environmental exposure-related symptoms and the issues he's seen from doctors only focusing on this one piece. 12:15: Dr. Bock explains what he calls the "immune kettle" and the role it plays in how a person experiences environmental exposures. "Some people do get a stacked deck in terms of genetic predispositions, and they may have to do even more to stay healthy. But the people who think they're riding free… There's no such thing as a free lunch."14:10: Dr. Bock discusses the differences between acute and chronic inflammation and the importance of distinguishing the two. He also details the various health problems inflammation can trigger, both physical and mental. People think all inflammation is bad, and it's really not that way. Acute inflammation has a purpose. However, if it's overwhelming inflammation or chronic persistent inflammation, those are the problems.19:50: Dr. Kenneth Bock goes through the importance of looking at the entire picture because, "If you don't look, you won't see. If you don't listen, you won't hear."23:30: Dr. Kenneth Bock details the importance of both science and intuition while treating a patient. As he said, the medical world has lost the art of making diagnoses and treatment plans.26:00: Dr. Kenneth Bock discusses why he continues to do his job and why he's so passionate about what he does. He also details the books he's written over the years and why he wrote them in the first place.32: Dr. Kenneth Bock explains the importance of both taking nutrients and making sure you're taking the correct dosage. For those dealing with environmental exposures, this is even more important. To learn more about Dr. Kenneth Bock at:https://www.bockintegrative.com/https://www.facebook.com/kennethbockmd/https://www.amazon.com/Kenneth-Bock/e/B001IGNYJ4%3Fref=dbs_a_mng_rwt_scns_shareThe Mold Medic https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.homecleanse.com

The narrative is slowly starting to change, highlighting the need to pay attention to this issue, but it's got a way to go before people are more aware. As he said, if we can educate the population, this issue will be at the forefront of the conversation. 10:15: Dr. Jaban Moore discusses root causes, different types of medicine, and the importance of looking at everyone's unique situation. "Start with the why to understand what's actually causing the problems." Sometimes, it takes years for toxins to build up in the body and begin triggering symptoms, and even then, people will brush off many of their issues. With how little attention is given to indoor mold growth, indoor environments are often the last place that people look to as a problem. He explains several instances where he's seen this in his clinic. 16:30: Dr. Jaban Moore details his personal experience with Lyme and treating patients with this condition over the years. To make it even more tricky, every person can handle exposure levels differently, and this changes over time. "Your body has a threshold for its ability to detox. All of ours are different. You need to figure out what yours is.28:00: Dr. Jaban Moore explains the canary in the coal mine situation and how this relates to mold exposure. He also goes through his experience of witnessing this with clients that he has treated.  32:30: Dr. Jaban Moore goes through the issue of people not wanting to deal with all of these issues with mold. The Root of the ProblemToday's Mold Talks guest is Sarah Tate, a school teacher, toxic mold warrior, and exposure survivor. Sarah's experience with mold exposure has been a long and painful journey as she continually suffered through symptoms that no one could find the root of the problem for. As time went on, she began to fear that the chronic pain and health issues would be the new normal in her life and that relief would never come. Today's Talk:In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sits down with Sarah Tate to discuss her difficult and debilitating experience with mold toxicity. Her long-time suffering shows how important it is to create more awareness for this indoor contaminant so that the root of the problem can be unearthed much sooner and chronic symptoms due to exposure don't continue on much longer than they should. With a family history of migraines, Sarah initially thought that her onset of pain was just an unavoidable fact of life that she would need to receive treatment for. As time went on, she tried a long list of pain-relief techniques, but nothing seemed to work. Eventually, her discomfort was so intense that it began to affect her first teaching job in Chicago, making it nearly impossible to just get through a normal day. She attempted to find answers and visited doctor after doctor, even going to a treatment facility for two weeks, but no one could pinpoint why her pain was getting worse and other symptoms like drastic weight loss were occurring. After moving to her home state of Louisiana and struggling to manage the symptoms and emotional trauma while teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic, she and her family were steered to a functional medicine facility in Chicago. Her new team of medical professionals instantly pointed her to mold toxicity, an answer which was then supported with testing. Since her diagnosis, Sarah has struggled to find a detox protocol that works for her body. She and her practitioner team have been working tirelessly to find a balance of gently getting her body to detox the toxins without moving too fast and causing her even more pain. It's been an emotional and distressing journey for Sarah and her family, filled with anxiety and dark thoughts, but she's continuing to push on and has faith that healthier, pain-free days are on the horizon. She's using her journey as a learning experience to prioritize herself and her health as well as take everything one day at a time. https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/You can chat more with Sarah Tate at:@saraht8https://www.themoldmedic.comhttps://www.allamericanrestoration.com

Back in the 80s, he began seeing an increasing number of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue cases, but because the medical world was unfamiliar with this condition, patients were sent to therapy. From there, he started connecting the dots to conditions such as mold toxicity and started helping his clients, even though it wasn't the "norm" in the medical world. Mold Talks with Michael Rubino

Today's Mold Talks guest is Eve Elenhorn, Integrative Health Practitioner, Personal Trainer, mold survivor, awareness advocate, and expectant mother. Eve's discovery of mold began after experiencing a devastating miscarriage that spurred her to look deeper into why she continued to experience chronic health issues. From Hashimoto's and the Epstein-Barr Virus to a long list of gastrointestinal and thyroid issues, she believed that something else must be playing a role in her body; she just had to figure out a method for connecting the dots. Her search for answers introduced her to the world of functional medicine. Teaming up with a functional medicine doctor and a naturopath, they ran extensive testing and determined that her problem was mold. From there, she began the long battle of learning more about this indoor contaminant, figuring out how to get rid of it from her home, dealing with the pushback on whether or not indoor mold growth is a problem, and the million and one other difficulties that often surround this event. Still, Eve never gave up. She's now well on her way to healing and is expecting a child in the next few months. Using her experience, she's now dedicated to helping others find the root cause of their health issues and bringing more awareness to the harmful effects of mold exposure. Today's Talk:In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sits down with Eve Elenhorn to discuss her harrowing battle with mold exposure. Her journey highlights how important it is to dive deep into finding the root cause of symptoms instead of taking a pill to solve the problem, the far-reaching health damage that mold exposure can cause, and the importance of trusting your instincts. Throughout her life, Eve dealt with a list of health issues and met with an even longer list of doctors in an attempt to handle the onslaught of symptoms. It wasn't until she experienced a devasting miscarriage that she began connecting the dots and attempting to figure out if an underlying root cause must be at play. Her push for answers is what led her to discover an alternative health route: functional and integrative medicine. After visiting with a functional medicine doctor and a naturopath who ran a long series of tests, they discovered mold and mycotoxins all throughout her body. The discovery of these toxins is what sparked her deep dive into understanding more about this indoor contaminant and how it can impact health. As it turns out, Eve had been living in mold, which led to the toxic buildup within her body. While she now had the answers she needed, she began her healing journey while living in a toxic environment and began working to convince her husband and family to get on board with understanding the impact mold can have on health and the importance of creating a safe indoor space. After finding the mold in the home and becoming pregnant, they moved out of the house so that it could be remediated, and she's now living in an apartment and working on ensuring her body is healthy and in balance. "I don't like to look at things as a burden. I hear other people say all the time that they're exhausted from trying to fix things and things not working. And I'm like, that's not the right mindset to have. I look at it as my baby's coming. It's gonna be a fresh start. I'm gonna have a new house. They say in the Jewish tradition that when babies come, they give you a blessing. So I kind of look at it from that perspective, that this is all a blessing that I can start my life over."https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/You can chat more with Eve Elenhorn at:

In this episode of Mold Docs, Michael Rubino sits down with Dr. Jess, a certified Gerson practitioner, functional medicine leader, and awareness advocate. Dr. Jess explains how she entered the world of mold and began helping people detox their bodies after exposure to this indoor contaminant. She discusses her process of figuring out if someone is suffering from mold exposure, detox strategies, and the new app that she established to help even more people on their healing journey. Dr. Jess is a former hospitalist, internal medicine-based medical doctor, and certified Gerson Practitioner. She is an expert in the areas of stealth infections, environmental toxicity, regenerative medicine, ozone, and cannabis. Her passion lies in uncovering the mystery behind chronic illness, whether that be stealth infections, heavy metals, stress/trauma, or other environmental toxicities. There are real, root-cause answers to why the body might be malfunctioning. Trained in medicine at the University of Louisville, Dr. Jess experienced what many of her patients experienced: deep anxiety, hormonal imbalances, and adrenal dysfunction. She sought answers to uncover the root cause of the disease – something she thought she had learned in medical school. After working as an M.D. in a hospital for 6 years, Dr. Jess realized that she needed to investigate alternatives to today's modern medical industry, which "treats every ill with a pill." She became trained in Gerson Therapy, functional medicine, nutrigenomics, and ozone in her efforts to help her patients with chronic disease solutions. She is now an expert in the fields of Lyme, parasites, and the health hazards of mold. She is an international keynote speaker with her own former line of Dr. Jess products. In this episode, they dive into:1:00 Dr. Jess details how she came up with her trademark quote, "Kill. Bind. Sweat." and how it catapulted her into the limelight of mold treatment. As most people aren't ready to just jump in and kill all the bad things in their bodies, it's important to balance prepping them for this process and then slowly adding steps as their bodies are ready. 2:30 How prevalent is mold toxicity? Dr. Jess talks about just how many patients she's seen who have suffered from mold exposure thanks to the rising number of water-damaged buildings out there. "It's overwhelming, actually. And so, it's my least favorite part of the job: telling people that they have mold in their homes." She explains her theory of why this phenomenon seems to be occurring more and more. 6:00 Dr. Jess refers to hypersensitive people as canaries in the coal mine, and explains that being responsive to mold isn't completely a bad thing; it's a warning system that something is wrong in that indoor environment. 8:00 Dr. Jess and Michael discuss the various ways of testing both the home and the body for mold and mycotoxins and how factors such as suppressed immune systems can throw a wrench in testing protocols. "I wish that testing was covered by insurance. It's not, guys. This is not even recognized in mainstream conventional medicine as a problem. So, it's super helpful for people like us, doctors and remediators, to know for sure if this is what's making you sick, and the only way we know for sure is by finding the spores in the home and then correlating those with the same species of mold that can make that mycotoxin. Because one species of mold can make multiple different mycotoxins and one mycotoxin can be from different species of mold, so it can get kind of complicated, and we need to be able to match up those volatile organic compounds called mycotoxins that they make in the house and we need to correlate that in your body."11:00 Dr. Jess dives into how everyone responds to exposure differently, meaning that treatment plans all tend to look a litt

Thinking Outside the Box Today's Mold Talks guest is Michael Strothers, a mold survivor, and awareness advocate. Michael's experience with mold began after moving into a new home with his fiance and immediately experiencing unusual symptoms, including alopecia. While medical professionals decided this autoimmune condition was triggered by stress, Michael continued thinking outside the box and searching for an answer that would explain his other related symptoms. His demand for an explanation eventually led him to discover mold as the root cause. Unfortunately, though, his battle didn't end there. From improper mold inspections, failed remediation, and struggling to find a safe indoor environment, he went through it all in an effort to get away from this contaminant. Eventually, he would sell the house and spend the next few years building up his own awareness, creating a safe space to live in, and giving his body the chance to heal.Today's Talk:In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sits down with Michael Strothers to discuss his battle with mold exposure and alopecia. His journey highlights how mold exposure can be the underlying stressor triggering autoimmune conditions such as alopecia, the importance of thinking outside the box, and how difficult it can be to find a safe space to live in once that sensitivity switch has been flipped. Thankfully, his dedication to building more awareness helped get him the tools he needed to eventually find a place to heal. His personal battle began after moving into a brand new house with his fiance at the time. Within three weeks, he started experiencing significant hair loss, as well as a list of other symptoms. Medical professionals immediately diagnosed him with alopecia triggered by stress from moving and the upcoming wedding. Something continued to bother him with this diagnosis, though, and he kept coming back to how these reactions only popped up after moving into the new home. This sparked a deep dive into thinking outside the box, leading him down a Google rabbit hole that eventually pointed to mold in the home. Low and behold, a mold inspector found mold in his new house. Unfortunately, what followed was a failed remediation that would lead to him moving out of the home and bouncing back and forth between places as he tried to find a safe space to live. Between issues with rental management not taking the issue seriously and the high number of homes with a current mold problem, Michael witnessed firsthand just how prominent indoor mold growth is. And, the entire time he was fighting this battle, he was continually told by family and medical professionals that mold was not his problem. For the next three years, he would continue to struggle before realizing that the best option was to purchase a home so that he could be in charge of correctly fixing any issues that popped up. Using his newfound knowledge, he dealt with a few mold issues that occurred in the house, until finally, it was a safe indoor environment. He's now enjoying the benefits of a healthy home that doesn't trigger a long list of symptoms. He's also using his experience to bring more awareness to the effects mold exposure can have and help as many people as he can find answers to their own chronic symptoms. "I didn't realize how common mold was. I thought the situation was a one in a million situation. Previously to that, I had lived in the house I grew up in and two different apartments. I never had a problem. So I didn't realize that it was the rule as opposed to the exception to the rule, especially when you're going to buy or live in a property that's a little bit older."https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/You can chat more with Michael Strothers at:@strothers.mike

Today's Mold Talks guest is Kimberly Rose, a certified breathwork therapist and mold survivor. Kimberly's unique experience with exposure-related toxicity started over a decade before she discovered that the root cause of her issues was living in a moldy environment. Since the discovery, she's jumped from moldy environment to moldy environment and is now well aware of just how prevalent this indoor contaminant is and how difficult it can be to find a safe indoor space. The saving grace that helped her get through the entire tumultuous experience was learning about and becoming an expert in breathwork. Between the gentle detox and the helpful mindset that this practice provided, she was able to survive living in these toxic environments and start down the path of healing. The road to recovery was bumpy, and it's one she's still attempting to navigate. But, by taking the steps she can when she can, Kimberly is well on her way toward her life-changing wellness goals. Today's Talk:In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sits down with Kimberly Rose to discuss her long and grueling battle with mold toxicity. Her experience shows how important it is to focus on the little steps and do what she can when she can. By first getting herself in the right and positive mindset, Kimberly has been able to help her body along the path of healing. Her initial experience with mold, she believes, started after moving into a mildewy apartment in Nashville, Tennessee when she was 19. After living there for a short time, she began to develop debilitating migraines, which would then further develop into a list of chronic symptoms. Unfortunately, she said her situation was compounded by the Adderall-induced depression she continued to feel, coupled with heavy drinking. It wasn't until she randomly discovered breathwork that her life turned around. Slowly, her mindset changed and her health began to improve. Kimberly's sister would later convince her to check for mold toxicity, and much to her surprise, there were high levels of mold in her body. Before the results, Kimberly had no idea that mold could cause any sort of adverse health reaction. Armed with the answer, she dove into figuring out how to heal her body and immediately jumped in. Years later, she's now a certified breathwork coach and is using this technique, coupled with supplements and binders, to help maintain her health while living in a moldy environment until she has the finances to move out into a safer space. Using her experience, she's dedicated her life to helping others with breathwork and surviving their own toxic environments. As she said, it can take a lot of money to figure out a health problem and just simply stay healthy. Her passion is to give these individuals as many economic resources as possible until they're in a position to make bigger life changes.https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/You can chat more with Kimberly Rose at: @breathe_with_kimberly_rosehttps://www.breathworkwithkimberlyrose.com/https://www.youtube.com/c/BREATHEwithKimberlyRose/featured

Ripping Off the Bandaid To Achieve Holistic Health Today's Mold Talks guest is Brendan Vermeire, a mental and metabolic health scientist, researcher, educator, author, and speaker. He is also a board-certified holistic health practitioner, master nutrition coach, master personal trainer, USAW Sports performance coach, and Crossfit trainer. Brendan's journey with mold began years ago after moving into a water-damaged house and later being introduced to the concept of mold illness. For years, Brendan dealt with the back and forth in the medical world while trying to find a healing solution for his fiance at the time. While he's still unsure as to whether or not mold caused her debilitating chronic illness, the experience was his first brush with functional medicine, environmental factors, and finding the root cause of illness. Since that initial realization, he dove into functional medicine, particularly focusing on how impactful environmental factors like mold can be on mental health. His passion in the field led to a career helping chronically ill individuals, the creation of a wide range of informative materials, a nonprofit dedicated to research and education, and a plethora of case studies aimed at pushing the envelope forward for healthier living for all, among other inspirational feats. Today's Talk:In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino chats with Brendan Vermeire about his journey into the realm of mold, what led him to become a renowned professional in the functional medicine world, and an advocate for healthier living for all. Throughout his journey, Brenden has continued to push for greater understanding, awareness, and change of how environmental factors like mold impact health in relation to overall wellbeing due to lifestyle. Brenden believes that his first brush with mold began after moving into a water-damaged house with his fiance at the time. Over time, his fiance continued to feel chronically ill and developed what he believed was a classic case of CIRS. Still, while they went to a variety of doctors and specialists, no one could pinpoint what was causing her to feel unwell, even though she continued to suggest that mold was the root cause. Sadly, she would eventually lose her battle with life in 2020, and they would never get to the bottom of whether or not she was struggling with mold toxicity. As Brenden said, "Trying to save her is what got me into functional medicine," and years later, he would be re-introduced to the idea of mold illness. From that moment on, he hit the ground running and dove into researching and figuring out how to help individuals get their bodies back into balance, especially if they've been suffering from mold exposure. The biggest piece of the puzzle, he found, is to help clients focus on getting their mental health in a positive place and actively work on improving their metabolic health. https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/You can learn more about Brendan Vermeire at: @the_holistic_savagehttps://www.metabolicsolutionsllc.com/

Today's Mold Talks guest is Lauren Keller, a nurse practitioner, certified midwife, and mold survivor. Like many suffering from mold toxicity, Lauren had no idea how much this indoor contaminant could impact her body until she moved into a rental house while getting her graduate degree. It took some time after the chronic symptoms initially developed before she realized that something wasn't quite right in her body. What followed were years of misdiagnosis, even though she was a professional in the medical realm. From depression, multiple sclerosis, and Lyme disease, Lauren heard it all and underwent a million and one tests to try to prove it. It took a random encounter for her to start going down the rabbit hole of environmental factors like mold as possible culprits. Luckily, she stuck to her instincts that something wasn't quite right and eventually realized it was mold toxicity that was causing her ongoing issues. From there, she began the long journey of healing, and she continued going down the rabbit hole of the effect environmental factors have on health. Her passion for the subject led her to not only a career change but also a move halfway across the world. Today's Talk:In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sits down with Lauren Keller to discuss her life-changing experience with mold. Her journey shows that even though someone's in the medical world, that doesn't mean that they can't suffer from mold illness because of the general lack of understanding and awareness of this indoor contaminant. Lauren's brush with mold began in graduate school after she moved into a house with visible mold. As she said, though, no one talked about mold. Even while in school to become a certified nurse, she never once learned about mold illness and the health implications of exposure. So, while she thought everything was fine, the toxicity slowly began chipping away at her health until her symptoms became so pronounced that she couldn't live her normal life. At one point, her chronic fatigue was so bad that she was sleeping almost 20 hours a day. Determined to find the cause, she started going down the rabbit hole of trying to find a diagnosis, but like many, it was an incredibly difficult struggle. No doctor could tell her what was wrong and instead suggested she might have mental health issues instead of something physically wrong. It took years of her continually going down the rabbit hole of research and trial and error before she finally considered mold as the root cause of her problem. Her entire experience with mold showed her just how little is known about this indoor contaminant and how little people think it can affect health-even medical professionals. Her own symptoms proved to her just how powerful the effects of exposure can be, and now much more attention is needed to how factors in our indoor environment impact health. From struggling to find someone to help build a safe home to hearing those around her say that mold is no big deal, she's witnessed countless issues regarding mold awareness.Using this understanding, she decided to change careers and is now helping people around the world heal who are going down the rabbit hole of environmental-related exposures and chronic illness. "When you're that ill and then you start recovering, you just see the world differently and you see the way you want to live your life differently. Mainstream doesn't really make as much sense anymore."https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/You can learn more about Lauren Keller at: @twopurplecarrots&l

That's when her journey of fighting to be heard began. It would take years of living in a moldy home before she realized that a contaminant in her indoor environment might be what was causing her problems all along: mold. She saw doctor after doctor, but few had any kind of experience or awareness when it came to mold. Even after being diagnosed with Hashimotos, she trusted her instincts that the mold she continued to see in her home was triggering her chronic symptoms. Eventually, fighting to be heard paid off, and she finally found someone that listened, ran tests that showed high levels of mold toxicity, and started her down the path of detoxing.Today's Talk:In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sits down with Samantha Huddleston to discuss her long journey living in moldy environments and fighting to be heard. It took years for Samantha to find individuals who believed in her instincts that mold was the problem, showing just how much more awareness is needed when it comes to this indoor contaminant. After moving to an older home in California while her husband went to graduate school, Samantha slowly started noticing recurring moldy issues throughout the home. At the time, though, she had no idea how much mold could impact her health and opted to try to clean it off. About a year after moving into the home, her symptoms started to ramp up. From anxiety and depression to chronic fatigue and brain fog, Samantha could barely get through her normal, everyday life. Her first attempt at seeking medical help occurred on Christmas Day, and she continued to see doctor after doctor from that initial visit to the ER, starting her journey of fighting to be heard. The medical professionals went back and forth on whether she might have a thyroid malfunction, kidney issues, iron deficiency, or mental health problems, but eventually settled on Hashimoto's. Still, she just had a feeling that the mold she kept seeing was the culprit. Refusing to let the idea go, Samantha kept fighting to be heard and finally found a doctor that listened. After running a series of tests, her bloodwork showed high levels of mold toxicity. Armed with the answers, Samantha began the long journey of detoxing and is still working on getting her body back into balance. Choosing to look on the bright side, she said that she's still grateful for the experience because it opened her eyes to how important it is to have a safe indoor environment and how little awareness there is for mold. By sharing her story, she hopes that others will begin to examine their homes as potential sources of ongoing illness and find the culprit for their symptoms much faster than she did."The doctor works for you. That's my big thing. If the doctor is not addressing the problem, and they're not willing to listen, and they're making you feel like you're a little bit crazy for talking like this, then they're not the doctor for you. Lindsey's unique journey with mold began with a pipe burst that led to a massive contamination situation that slowly took over and eventually led to them moving out of mold. To make it even more frightening, the entire situation occurred while she was pregnant with her daughter. For the year that they lived in the toxic environment, Lindsey struggled with a range of symptoms, even after they hired a remediation company to come in and fix the situation multiple times. The health effects were so drastic that she could barely take care of herself, much less her newborn baby. She and her husband battled to overcome the hurdle of downplaying mold exposure as the culprit for their issues, but when Lindsey found hidden mold all over her home, she realized that his fungus might be to blame after it all. Her discovery and repeated attempts at solving the issue led them to decide on moving out of mold instead of continuing to live in a toxic environment.Today's Talk:In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino chats with Lindsey Jones about her overwhelming and debilitating experience living through mold exposure. Her ordeal shows how much more attention needs to be paid to this indoor contaminant and how difficult it can be to accept that mold could be the cause of such large-scale issues. Lindsey's initial encounter with mold began when a pipe burst while she and her family were away on vacation. Their absence allowed for the water to soak through the entire home, creating a large-scale potential situation for mold to move in on. While they hired someone to come in and dry out their home as well as fix all of the structural issues, Lindsey still began experiencing a range of odd symptoms after moving back into the house. Since she was pregnant, though, they believed that was the underlying cause. Almost at the end of her pregnancy, Lindsey discovered mold in the island in her kitchen, resulting in her and her husband hiring the same remediation company to come back and solve the problem. The company quickly remediated the visible issue while Lindsey was still in the home, and assured her family that the problem was now resolved. She put her faith in these individuals and believed that this was the end of the story. It never crossed her mind that she would eventually be moving out of mold and the incredibly toxic environment they were living in.Fast forward to after she gave birth, and these adverse health reactions began to spiral out of control. So much so that she could barely take care of her newborn daughter or even move around her own home. Even with individuals suggesting that mold could be the culprit, she remained convinced that the issue was resolved and that there was no way this fungus could be causing so many issues. It took a chance glimpse of mold in her home to figure out there was a massive contamination issue within the building. While they tried to remediate it again, they realized that moving out of mold was the best option for their health. Thankfully, due to Lindsey's extensive research, they only moved out with the clothes on their backs and left all of their contaminated belongings inside of the home. She's now back to feeling like her healthy, normal self and is using this experience to help others and advocate for change when it comes to mold.https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/You can chat more with Lindsey Jones on Instagram at:@lindseykjones

Thankfully, she continued listening to intuition and discovered that the culprit for her chronic problems existed right within her own home. Even after seeing doctor after doctor, no one could pinpoint what the problem was, and instead only gave her band-aids for the problem. The experience taught Victoria how important it is to continue advocating for her own health and listening to intuition. Refusing to accept her condition as the new normal, she discovered the answers on her own and fought to get her body back into balance and healthy once more. Even while fighting with apartment complex management and medical professionals that were woefully unfamiliar with mold. Still, she considers this event a learning and strengthening experience and is using her story to help others who may be suffering from similar situations.Today's Talk:In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino chats with Victoria Fisher about her five-year experience with mold exposure and just how difficult it can be to find answers. Not only that, but also the lack of experience with acceptance and understanding when it comes to this indoor contaminant, especially from apartment management. Listening to intuition and refusing to accept her situation as the new normal is the main driver that got her through the experience. At first, when Victoria's mental and physical health started to take a downward turn, she thought it might be her birth control causing all of the issues. When the symptoms persisted even after the removal of her Nexplanon, she then turned to genetic conditions. Her mother suffered from thyroid cancer, so Victoria began seeing medical professionals to determine if this could be the cause of her problems. As it typically goes with mold toxicity, every single test they ran came back normal. As the symptoms progressed over time, she saw an increasing number of doctors and specialists, but no one could give her an answer to her issues. Victoria refused to give up, though. As she said, "I just knew that this didn't have to be my story, and I didn't want it to be my story," so she continued pushing for answers and listening to intuition. It took years of research and perseverance before she finally found her answer: indoor mold growth. After finding specific indicators in the test results, she immediately contacted Texas Mold Inspectors to come in and assess her and her husband's apartment. They, of course, found the mold. What followed was a long and drawn-out battle with the apartment complex management. Luckily, Victoria had the foresight to begin and maintain a paper trail, which she would eventually use to break her lease. From there, she focused on healing her body while staying with her in-laws and finding a new home that didn't already have a mold problem. Looking back, Victoria said that while it's been a wild ride, she still wouldn't give up the experience. Erik has been an invaluable asset in pushing for change thanks to his deep history with both mold illness and chronic fatigue syndrome. Throughout his life, he's experienced mold exposure on several occasions and the drastic impact it has on health.Using this experience, Erik has dedicated his life to pushing the line forward when it comes to mold awareness, research, and related illnesses. After witnessing countless individuals suffer through the debilitating symptoms of exposure while still seeing little to no action taken to address this ongoing issue, he realized that change wasn't going to come easily. Still, those dealing with chronic illness deserve help, which is why he's spent years of his life researching, sharing his story, advocating for change, and shining a massive light on this worldwide issue.Today's Talk:In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino had the opportunity to speak with Erik Johnson and hear this mold revolutionist's amazing journey of living with exposure. His journey with mold began after his family started managing a hotel at an old stagecoach stop on the Sonora Pass in 1964. Erik said that he immediately realized he was in trouble after developing a list of chronic symptoms. Over time, his entire childhood would be impacted, from lack of energy and sociability to development and neurological issues.Eventually, they would find mold inside the walls of the hotel. That discovery introduced Erik to the idea of mold and started him on a journey towards awareness. For the next few decades, he would continue to experience mold in various places during his life after that initial onset of sensitivity. Even joining the army and moving to a base in Germany presented certain mold-related issues. A leak in the basement armory led to not only Erik experiencing chronic symptoms but his entire unit as well. While he battled exposure for some time, he eventually realized that he wouldn't be able to reenlist because of his failing health. In the following years, Erik would continue to notice "sick building" after "sick building" and the effects they had on the people inside. This was the initial spark for becoming a mold revolutionist. With a built-in sensitivity radar for mold in his own body, we slowly began to consider whether any of these buildings also had mold. At the time, he also became Dr. Paul Cheney's very first mystery illness patient during the Lake Tahoe epidemic in 1985. It was while trying to find answers during this outbreak that he realized how skewed the world was when it came to mold exposure and related illnesses. While they acknowledged the validity of a new condition, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, they failed to research and associate the illness with mold exposure. The entire scenario led to Erik's life's work in researching, advocating, and embracing being a mold revolutionist. Haileigh, her husband, and their three sons suffered from mold illness for years before figuring out that it was their environment making them sick. From detoxing and the loneliness of mold exposure to dealing with Western medicine trends, she's gone through the wringer trying to heal her family. Her determination and persistence in finding the answers are what finally led Haileigh down the path of mold. Looking back, she's finally starting to realize exactly how much mold exposure impacted her family, particularly her young children. Using this experience, she's continuing to focus on detoxing her family while also beginning to take steps to help others who are going through similar situations so they don't have to experience the loneliness of mold exposure. Today's Talk: In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sits down with Haileigh to discuss how much of an impact mold exposure can have on an entire family, the loneliness of mold exposure, and the difficulties of navigating the experience. As Haileigh points out, there just aren't enough people familiar with mold and the dramatic and far-reaching effects it can have on health. Haileigh and her family moved into a new home about three years ago while she was pregnant with her third child. Over time, each of them began developing chronic issues, from strep throat and gastrointestinal issues to kidney and gallbladder problems. One of her sons went on to develop PANS/PANDAS and Haileigh experienced appendicitis that led to a combined birthing and surgery situation. As a healthy woman who exercised regularly and ensured her children were healthy as well, she couldn't understand why her family continued to experience health problem after health problem. She took her family to a variety of doctors over the months, but no one could give her a definitive answer as to what was going on. Haileigh said that the loneliness of mold exposure was one of the worst parts. Those around her, even relatives, weren't understanding of what they were all going through and the severity of their suffering. Luckily, they eventually discovered that it was their indoor environment that was causing the problem and that they had been living in mold all that time. Their battle didn't stop there, though. From that moment of discovery, Haileigh and her husband would struggle to find medical professionals who could help create personal detox plans, they would lose many of their belongings to contamination, they'd experience a transition home with mold, and they'd battle insurance companies for coverage. All while trying to recover from mold exposure and find a safe place to raise their children.Thankfully, they're now in a safe environment and are continuing to work on their health and help others who may be going through similar experiences and experiencing the loneliness of mold exposure."Don't stop. If you're not getting the answers that you need from a doctor, if they're not listening to you, and things are still happening and things aren't making sense, listen to your gut. Get uncomfortable. Be comfortable with getting uncomfortable."https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/Learn more about Haileigh at:Instagram: @hpopp425https://www.doterra.com/US/en/site/poppofhealth/

Today's Mold Talks guest is Amanda Panacea, a licensed mental health counselor, life coach, and holistic health practitioner. Amanda knew from a young age that mold was not her friend. Between dealing with physical symptoms and the mental aspect of mold toxicity, she was well acquainted with how much this indoor contaminant could affect her health.Later on in life, she would encounter a mold situation that drastically shifted her life while she was studying functional medicine. Luckily, she was familiar with mold illness and pushed through the pain to begin her journey to healing. Now she's helping others who are suffering from similar situations detox and find relief from exposure, as well as getting back on track from the mental aspect of mold toxicity. Today's Talk: In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sits down with Amanda Panacea to discuss her life-long battle with mold and the mental aspect of mold toxicity. As a child, Amanda said she was basically allergic to everything, which is why she knew mold was a problem. She was lucky enough to have a mom fully invested in her health, so she knew from previous doctor visits that many species of mold triggered her symptoms. It wasn't until she developed hepatitis A that her full-blown mold illness symptoms developed much more strongly than her previous symptoms. Still, it took some time for her to pinpoint that mold was the underlying culprit. Living in South Florida and studying to be a functional medicine practitioner, she visited quite a few doctors to determine what the problem was, but it would be some time before she realized this indoor contaminant was to blame. Everything came to a head when she began seeing her current boyfriend, who lived in an apartment with mold. Amanda quickly developed a list of symptoms and started battling the mental aspect of mold toxicity. Still, while she knew mold was in the apartment, she hoped that by spending less time in the building, she'd be fine. As the symptoms and mental aspect of mold toxicity persisted, though, she knew that wasn't the case. Luckily, she started working for a company in 2020 that used bioenergetic testing to help individuals get their bodies back into balance. After using this method on herself, she finally began to heal from her list of symptoms. Amanda is using her knowledge now to help others heal their bodies from mold exposure and recover from the mental aspect of mold exposure. "With pain comes passion. A lot of people, when they go through something as horrible as mold illness, they come out of it with so much more education on not just mold but like the entire body and brain and even like taking care of your home. They also usually want to help other people do the same."https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/Learn more about Amanda Panacea at:Instagram: @amandapanaceahttps://creatingbalancedhealth.com/

Today's Mold Talks guest is Kealy Severson, a licensed healthcare professional, environmentally acquired injury specialist, podcast host, and mold survivor. While she's not completely sure when her journey with mold-related illness began, she believes that this fungus began taking root when she was a child. However, it wasn't until her entire family began to get sick that she realized some environmental factor must be at play and she needed to begin reclaiming life after mold. Her experience with mold highlights just how prevalent this mold is indoors and how drastically it can impact health. Kealy understands firsthand how much mold can impact normal, everyday life, having dealt with the effects of chronic illness, struggling to keep us as a mother of three, caring for sick children, and the strain on a marriage. Now, she's using this massive and traumatic life event to help others who are also dealing with environmental contaminants. Today's Talk: During this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino chats with mold survivor Kealy Severson to discuss her long and exhausting battle with mold exposure. While she can't pinpoint exactly when her illness began, she distinctly remembers an event when she was 10 years old and experienced a drastic personality shift. Looking back, she thinks that's when her fungus problems began- in a damp basement. Throughout the next 18 years, she experienced chronic symptoms throughout her life but never pieced together what the trigger was. Instead, she normalized her symptoms. It wasn't until adulthood that she realized something else was at play. She and her family just moved into an apartment after Kealy took a new position as an acupuncturist. While they smelled a musty odor in the kitchen, Kealy said that she never associated a mildew smell with hidden water or mold. Over the next few years, she, her husband, and her three children all began experiencing a range of symptoms. As her health slowly began to deteriorate, her relationship with her husband did as well. One of his main symptoms of exposure was a dramatic mood and personality switch that made him act like a completely different person. It wasn't until she heard a podcast featuring a woman affected by mold that she started to consider this fungus as a potential culprit. Still, it would be some time before her husband discovered the hidden mold in their kitchen. What followed was a battle with their landlord, moving out with the clothes on their back, and then moving into a home down the street. She immediately began detoxification protocols for herself and each member of their family to start reclaiming life after mold. While they did begin to feel better, it was an incredibly slow and drawn-out process. Low and behold, they discovered hidden mold in this home as well. From there, they battled for remediation again and ended up moving in with Kealy's mother, whose apartment also had mold. Kealy and her family weren't able to begin reclaiming life after mold until they bought a new home that was free from this fungus. “The first thing that you should look to if you're chronically sick is something in your environment because it's been normalized to think that it's a disease or something else. And, so many of these chronic illnesses have an intimate environmental component and I don't think people realize that and it doesn't matter about your genetics. These aren't genetic disorders. These are environmental disorders causing genetic activation problems with your health.”https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/Learn more about Kealy Severson at:https://exposingmold.com/https://www.instagram.com/exposingmold/https://www.facebook.com/exposingmold

Today's Mold Talks guest is Emily Rachal, owner of Texas Mold Inspectors, founder of Malachi's Message, and mold survivor. Emily's heartbreaking experience shows just how much a family can be devastated by mold. From the loss of a child's life to chronic health issues with every family member, including pets, this indoor contaminant completely changed Emily's life. Yet, even with the immense pain and suffering her family went through, Emily and her husband decided to use this experience to push for change. They created their own mold inspection company as well as a nonprofit foundation to help others get through similar situations. Continuing to advocate for change, she hopes that in the future, no one will have to go through the agony she and her family experienced. Today's Talk: In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sits down with Emily Rachal to hear how her family was devastated by mold. Their journey with mold began with a life-changing transition. Wanting a slower pace of life so they could enjoy time with their son, they moved away from Austin, Texas, to a smaller town a few hours away.Within the first week of moving, Emily, her husband, their son, and their two dogs all started to experience a range of symptoms, including sinus issues, hormone imbalance, incessant itching (for the dogs), and debilitating anxiety. A friend in Austin suggested it might be mold, but Emily was skeptical, and unfortunately, a doctor told her that this indoor contaminant couldn't cause any health issues. It wasn't until they left their house a year later for an extended time that they realized their indoor environment was to blame and how much their family had been devastated by mold. Immediately, their symptoms began to ease, and their son seemed to transform back to life in front of their eyes. A chance encounter with another family who had previously suffered from mold sealed the deal; they knew they had to get their home tested. As it turns out, their home was contaminated with toxic mold. They immediately moved out and requested that their landlord remediate their space.Their struggle didn't stop there, though. Over the next few months, they experienced issues with their landlord, remediation, inspections, insurance companies, and a host of other problems. Choosing to use this as fuel for the fire, her husband immediately took a class to become a Texas licensed mold inspector and learned that various individuals had broken the law while attempting to "remediate" the mold in Emily's home. While dealing with problem after problem, Emily was also struggling with pregnancy complications triggered by her failing health. While they were able to spend some time with their newborn son, Malachi, he passed away from a terminal birth defect due to Emily's toxic mold exposure. After the heartbreaking experience of their family being devastated by mold, Emily and her husband established their own mold inspection company and nonprofit. They're dedicated to helping ensure no one has to go through a similar situation and can get the help and answers they deserve. “So we decided to go out there and help people the way that we wish somebody would have helped us back then.”https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/Learn more about Emily Rachal at: https://malachismessage.org/https://www.texasmoldinspectors.com/

Today's Mold Talks guest is Rain Holten, a licensed esthetician, integrative health practitioner student, and chronic mold survivor. Rain's experience with mold over the years has been all-consuming. Over the years, she's realized first-hand that this fungus among us is everywhere and often works alongside other conditions like Lyme disease. Rain's not completely sure when her initial experience with mold began. Over the years, she's realized that exposure occurred at her job, in her home, and even in her car, but there was never a sudden instance of, "Oh, that's mold." In fact, it took years for her to figure out that this fungus was affecting her life so drastically. This long and tumultuous timeline is what pushed Rain to become a mold advocate. Today's Talk: In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sits down with Rain Holten to discuss her long journey with mold illness. While she's still debating on exactly how long mold has played a role in her health, she believes her place of work sparked the most drastic change in her body- it was a salon located in a basement that had a musty smell, but Rain never considered that mold might be a problem. She just thought she was overwhelmed with starting her new business. Eventually, though, her toxicity got so bad that it began affecting her everyday life. Over the years of working in the contamination (and she'd later find out, living in it as well), Rain developed a lengthy list of symptoms and conditions often related to mold. Doctor after doctor steered her in a multitude of directions, but no one could pinpoint why her persistent symptoms wouldn't abate. It wasn't until a friend suggested that she see a naturopath for her ongoing Lyme disease symptoms that mold popped up on Rain's radar. At first, she pushed back at the idea that this fungus could be the culprit, but she eventually agreed to give the idea merit. As it turned out, the testing revealed that she did have mold in her body. That's when she began connecting the dots. She'd later find out that mold was in her home and her car as well. Armed with the answers, she started down the road to removing the mold from her life and her body. Unfortunately, the lack of moldy information in society led to a bumpy road of failed remediations and detoxes that weren't successful. Luckily, she's worked hard to build her mold awareness and, while her body is still not fully back to normal, she's feeling much healthier and mold-free. Now, she's focused on continuing to heal and helping to spread awareness so that others don't have to continue to suffer from mold toxicity. "My recommendation would be to make sure that you always listen to your body. Don't let a person, don't let 50 people, don't let your husband, don't let your mother, and don't let a stranger tell you that it's not real because it is. Her experience with mold has been a long and difficult road, with exposure occurring both in her home and at her place of work. From dealing with apartment complex managers to insurance companies and school boards, Lisa now knows just how difficult handling mold can be.Even with all of the pain, obstacles, and discouraging situations she's faced, she's using her experience to help others as much as possible. From advocacy to pushing for change, Lisa is pushing for mold awareness, acceptance, and proper removal so that no one has to suffer as she has suffered. In particular, she said, students and teachers who attend mold-filled schools. Today's Talk: During this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino chats with Lisa Christensen, who opens up about her ongoing battle with mold illness and sensitivity. Lisa's journey with mold began in 2019 after she moved into what she considered a fairly new apartment building. Over time, she began developing symptom after symptom that began altering her normal life, but she couldn't pinpoint what the problem actually was. While her brother suffered from toxic mold issues and organ failure years before, she just never considered that this fungus could be in her new apartment. Luckily, a random event and intuition led her to discover an existing mold issue. What followed were months of going back and forth with her complex, hiring a lawyer, battling the insurance company, and dealing with the financial burden that comes along with indoor mold growth. Eventually, she moved out of the apartment complex, which finally allowed her body to detox. Nine months later, she finally began to feel like her normal self again. Unfortunately, Lisa's journey with mold didn't stop there. After moving back to Washington, D.C., she took a job as an art teacher but made the mistake of not checking out the building before accepting the position. During her first day touring the school, she immediately began experiencing symptoms of exposure. This sparked another obstacle-filled experience of attempting to circumnavigate her contract, not being able to work, finding a doctor, dealing with insurance again, getting on disability, and just trying to stay healthy. Now, she's using her experience to provide advice to others and to advocate for change, particularly in schools. It's especially important, she said, for children to learn in environments that aren't making them sick so that they can be successful later on in life. “The sad part of all of this is that… these are kids that are like not fully developed, where they'll get brain damage or it might mimic them having a learning disability and they don't even have one and it actually mold. I want them to be successful in life and this is poisoning their bodies. Then the sad part is, a lot of these low-income kids probably already even have it in their homes.” https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/Chat with Lisa Christensen at:Instagram: @radienteart

Since her battle began with mold years ago, she's dedicated her life to pushing the conversation forward about indoor mold growth, exposure, and mold illness. As she says, society rarely considers our indoor environments when thinking about health, and that needs to change. Her journey with mold shows exactly why. Alicia suffered from mold toxicity and the symptoms that went along with it for over a year before she even considered the possibility of an environmental contaminant being the culprit. By refusing to stop searching for answers and trusting that she was indeed mentally sane, she finally discovered the newly renovated home she and her husband recently purchased before the COVID-19 shutdown was to blame. Today's Talk: During this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino sat down with podcast host Alicia Swamy to discuss her heartbreaking story of living with mold. Her journey started after moving into a new home in Oregon with her husband three months before the Coronavirus lockdown began. Throughout her life, she often found herself battling one sickness or another, but her health always bounced back. Using her educational training, she kept her life full of healthy actions and gave her body as many beneficial things as possible to remain well. As the lockdown wore on, though, Alicia's health began to deteriorate with no end in sight. Even while she was doing the right thing, she had a "scroll" of symptoms that seemed to get longer and longer as the days progressed. While she attempted to go to doctor after doctor, no one could pinpoint what exactly was wrong with her. They either said she was fine or suggested she try a Benzo (benzodiazepines) to help with her "anxiety." Even her own family thought she might be a little crazy. It wasn't until she did her own research and joined social media communities, like Facebook groups, that she began to suspect mold. Low and behold, when her home was tested, there was in fact mold existing within the home. What followed were several failed remediation attempts and her equally failing health, all of which caused Alicia and her husband to vacate their new home. She has now dedicated her life to helping others suffering from mold exposure find the answers they need. She hopes to change the way society views mold in every affiliated industry, from the medical world to insurance and construction. Alicia believes that changing the narrative and the perspective will vastly decrease the number of people that will suffer from mold exposure in the future.https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/Learn more about Alicia Swamy at:https://exposingmold.com/https://www.instagram.com/exposingmold/https://www.facebook.com/exposingmoldhttps://www.facebook.com/alicia.swamy23

Continuing to struggle to find a diagnosis for her son is what led her to start looking closely at their indoor environment. By continuing to ask questions and persistently searching for answers, she eventually realized that all of the symptoms she and her family continued to suffer through were attributed to mold. But the journey to healing wasn't the smooth ride she was hoping for. From failed remediation projects to misdiagnosis, she and her family's exposure journey have been long and fraught with issues.Today's Talk:During this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino chats with Shannon to discuss her long and bumpy journey of dealing with indoor mold growth and exposure. Her battle began while attempting to find the cause of her young son's ongoing and seemingly random symptoms. After visiting with a pediatrician, she learned that her son was actually suffering from PANS/PANDAS, but then struggled to find someone who could help manage this neurological condition and determine if he randomly developed it or if there was an underlying trigger.Luckily, as she was studying to become a health coach, she remembered watching a documentary about the effects mold exposure can have on the body. A few months later, she saw a functional medicine doctor, hired a mold inspector, and realized the answer to her son's problems was in fact indoor mold growth. Given the proof that mold toxicity was at play, she quickly recognized that it wasn't just her son who was suffering from exposure. She and her daughter were also experiencing a range of symptoms as well. It wasn't just "mom brain" and a toddler's ongoing temper-tantrum problem. Unfortunately, what followed were several years of failed remediation attempts as she lived with her in-laws. From fogging disasters to improper protocols, the mold in her home continued to be mistreated and therefore remained in the home. When she and her family returned, not only did their symptoms come back, but they also flared to life more predominantly than before. Now, she's searching for the right remediation company for her family and, in the interim, is using her knowledge to help others detox from environmental toxins like mold."If you don't know what's causing your issues, you're never going to fix it. When her kids began experiencing symptoms as well, though, she knew something in her environment was harming her family. Her intuition led her to discover a severe mold problem in the new home. Unfortunately, Vivian's journey to recovery took far longer than she would have hoped, but she's now using her knowledge and passion to help others recover from the illness that mold exposure can cause. Today's Talk: In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino chats with Vivian Rowan to discuss her traumatizing experience with indoor mold exposure. Her journey began in 2018 when she moved into a new house with her family. She began feeling unwell gradually but eventually developed over 30 different symptoms that completely altered her way of life. When her children started to experience symptoms as well, she knew something had to be done. Her lightbulb moment came when she realized it must be their environment triggering the symptoms. Thinking back, she remembered a massive flooding event as soon as they moved in. After checking her basement, she was horrified when she found mold everywhere throughout the space. A remediation professional came to assess her home and suggested she immediately move her family out of the contaminated space. What followed was a long journey of healing, months spent in hotels, intensive remediation, and starting over in a new home. She also noticed a serious lack of consideration for environmental exposures while attempting to find a diagnosis. After seeing 25 to 30 doctors, she realized how big of a discrepancy exists in how Western medicine doctors were trained to treat those suffering from mold exposure. In short, they weren't. Luckily, she found a functional medicine doctor who helped heal both Vivian and her children. Her experience led her to become a certified nutritionist, and she's now using her knowledge to help others who are healing from mold exposure."It scars you and you're constantly looking for mold because you're in self-defense mode 24/7. Eventually, they moved out of the apartment that was affecting her health, but it would be some time before she realized how much mold exposure had impacted and was continuing to impact her health. Looking back, Michelle said the hardest part of her journey was her loss of trust in the medical system. For six years, she went to doctor after doctor, and most continued to gaslight her about the cause of her symptoms. From female problems to age, she received an encyclopedia of answers, and not one considered mold exposure as the culprit. Eventually, she found a few doctors she trusted who helped her get her body back into balance, and she's feeling more and more like herself every day. Her only regret is not thinking of mold exposure's effect on her body sooner. "The whole being pushed around has really caused a distrust for me with physicians, and it's really sad because that's the place that you're supposed to go and there's they're supposed to listen and they're supposed to help."https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/Find Michelle on Instagram at: big_momma_swizzle

Now she's using her experience to help her clients on their health journey and to ensure others never feel alone as they're battling through mold exposure. Today's Talk: In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino chats with Sara Gerbracht to discuss her unique experience with mold and mycotoxin exposure. Sarah's mold journey began about two years ago when she experienced her first-ever anxiety attack at her son's hockey game. As her forgetfulness, anxiety, and fatigue wore on over the months and began to heavily affect her everyday life, she knew something had to be done. She needed an answer as to what was going on inside of her body. Luckily, she was friends with someone who knew a functional medicine doctor who immediately pinpointed the root cause of her problems: mold! Sara started on her journey to healing straight away and while it took some time, she's finally feeling the relief of detoxing mold and mycotoxins from her body. For those experiencing similar situations, Sara recommends trusting yourself, never stop looking for the answers, and finding a doctor that will listen. "You know, you have to keep digging and taking things like this seriously. Today's Mold Talk's guest is Tessa Bowers, CEO of Nourishing Functional Health and a Certified Functional Nutritional Counselor. Tessa dealt with chronic illness for the better part of her life but believes her mold journey started when she moved into her brand new home in 2016 and has continued ever since. When her painful symptoms reached a new peak in 2020, including muscle cramps, chronic fatigue, and even MRSA, she knew something had to be done. She luckily had a friend that led her in the direction of the root cause of her issues and has been on the road to healing ever since. It's been a journey filled with road bumps, but now that Tessa knows what the culprit is, she's been able to weather the mold exposure storm. Now she uses her experience to help clients look at the entire picture to determine how they can live healthier, happier lives.Today's Talk: In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino chats with Tessa Bowers about her struggle with chronic illness and mold exposure. Over the years, Tessa struggled with chronic illness, but it came to a painful head around 2018. Before discovering the root source causing her symptoms to flare up, she, like a lot of other people suffering from mold exposure, went from doctor to doctor. As a healthy and active professional, mother, and wife, Tessa also had no idea why her health was failing. Luckily, she had a functional medicine doctor as a friend. After a visit with this practitioner, she finally found the answer to her symptoms: mold exposure. Her journey to healing remains ongoing, but Tessa is just glad to finally have the answers. Since her diagnosis, Tessa elaborates on her experience with a failed remediation and is now waiting for a second company to come in and remove the contamination from her home. Luckily, since she knows what's causing her body to go haywire, she's actively working on mitigating her symptoms until her house is healthy and free from mold growth. Choosing to look on the bright side, Tessa is using her experience to help her clients as they struggle through their own illnesses. Even mold exposure. She recommends anyone going through similar challenges to get out of the house if they can and to take a bite-sized approach to detoxing. Do the research first, and then tackle one aspect of healing at a time. https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/Learn More About Tessa At: https://nourishingfunctionalhealth.com/page/home-nfhInstagram: @nourishingfunctionalhealth

Today's Mold Talks Guest is Kara McNabb, a traditional naturopath and somatic therapist. A strong-willed individual at heart, Kara dealt with her symptoms for quite some time before finally finding the answers to her persistent health symptoms. After solving her health puzzle on her own, she's actively taking steps to both detox her body and remove the mold contamination from her home. Choosing to look on the bright side, Kara is grateful to finally find the answer to her health issues. Armed with a new awareness of mold exposure and its byproducts, she's using her experience to help her clients suffering from similar experiences. Today's Talk: In this episode of Mold Talks, Michael Rubino chats with Kara about her unique mold experience. Kara's mold journey officially started in 2020, right as the nationwide lockdown was initiated due to Covid-19, but she believes her journey probably started 5-6 years prior when she bought her home. The five or six unfortunate water events that occurred after she moved in also probably didn't help. Working from home, coupled with the stressful events of that time, is what she believes ramped up her symptoms to a level she couldn't ignore. She went through various phases trying to determine exactly what was causing her 40 plus symptoms that were both physical and psychological. As someone whose career revolves around helping others heal, she became increasingly frustrated that she couldn't figure out exactly what was causing her to feel unwell. “I can't fix myself and I can always fix myself.” It took one chance Facebook encounter for her to nail down exactly what was triggering her body's reactions: mold. From that moment on, she dug into research regarding mold and mycotoxicity so that she could begin taking steps to finally find relief. She's well on her way to healing both her body, her mind, and her home and strongly advocates for anyone suffering from similar experiences to take it one day at a time. Do what you can, when you can but, above all, don't avoid the problem and hope that it goes away. Actively work to take steps towards detoxifying the body and removing mold from your indoor environment. Now, she's using her experience with mold exposure to help her clients who were struggling with chronic illnesses find relief.  https://www.themoldmedic.com/https://www.allamericanrestoration.com/Learn more about Kara McNabb at: https://www.magnoliaholistichealth.comhttps://mind-body-magic.teachable.com
