There's nothing like food and friendship to warm up a cold night. On this episode, host Tina Pittaway heads to Antigonish Nova Scotia to drop in on a potluck dinner organized by the cast of New in Town, a recently staged community theatre show. Equal parts comedy and variety show, it brought together about a dozen recent immigrants from countries including Iran, Afghanistan, China and the United States. They formed strong bonds over the months of writing and rehearsing the show. Cast members and organizers pull back the curtain to share the experiences, stories and ideas that inspired the show and how they are creating new lives here in Canada.

"There's a double space there!" Lou brings along the romantic-comedy New In Town (2009). It's a surprisingly on-track review until about 35 minutes when it takes a huge detour into food, naturally. Discussion Points: -This is a goofy film. -The DVD cover read-out, warning guys it's a long one! -Sean does not like double-spaced mistakes. -The 'I know Edgar and that wasn't Edgar' actress does a great job. -Lou brings some fantastic trivia. -The main character does not fall off a balcony. -The Bridget Jones touches to the film. -Marv disrupts the podcast with a note. How dare he. -That eternal filmmaking battle: Director versus Producers. -Continuity errors. -Lou brings the results of a poll which Marv ran about 'What is your favourite Zellweger film?' Raised Questions: -Remember when DVD's kicked straight into the action, after the Federation of Copyright Theft advert? -Can you say damsel in distress anymore? -Did this film make your heart melt? -Does America lack class? -How many times does Sean says pudding? -Who actually cares about the views of critics? We've all had experiences where we went to something for the first time and hoped to be well received by others. Wherever that was we wanted to matter and make a impact where we went. Background: After sharing the “Beattitudes” during the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus makes it a point to tell the Christians who are listening that they need to be like salt and light in the world around them. He wants them to understand that this is the way that they can make a difference where they live. Big Idea: We make the biggest impact with others by being salt and light. (Matthew 5:13-16; Luke 14:34; Mark 4:21)

Juan Arboleda and Paola Montoya's first interaction with JDI Cleaning was through covering a couple of cleaning jobs. The local franchisee was so impressed by their work ethic that he offered them a franchise. They took that and ran with it, growing into multi-unit owners over the 20 years they've been with the company. In their tenure, they've increased sales in their Milton, Brampton, and North Halton region by 300 per cent, including making the jump from franchisee to franchisor. Within the last six months, their son Simon began assisting them on cleaning jobs, making it a true family franchise. Juan and Paola join us on Franchise Canada Chats to discuss: - JDI franchises are in the communication business, not just the cleaning business; - Engaging with cultural changes in a new country and how onboarding new Canadians reflects the franchisor/franchisee relationship; -Splitting the workload and responsibility to divide and conquer, keeping family issues at home and leaving work at the office; -and so much more!

A new movie is about to hit movie theaters on August 27th (and on streaming services like Apple / Amazon that same day) that you want to see! Siobhan Fallon Hogan & Robert Patrick star in this new movie thriller with Jake Weary and Jay Jay Warren. The movie is called “Rushed”. It was written by Siobhan Fallon Hogan who has been in a ton of movies and shows that you've already seen. We are very fortunate to have Jay Jay Warren with us today on episode number 163 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast. Jay Jay plays “Jimmy” in the movie, a college freshman who is involved in a fraternity hazing incident. Since we have so many listeners that are college students and heavily involved in their fraternities and sororities, we wanted to talk more with Jay Jay to tell us about the upcoming movie. We find out more about Jay Jay's childhood and what made him want to become an actor, what it was like to work with Siobhan Fallon-Hogan on the set (you'll recognize her from Seinfeld, SNL, The Golden Girls, 30 Rock, Men In Black, Forrest Gump, New In Town, Holes), how Jay Jay tried to absorb everything he could from this acting crew to help him reach his acting goals with Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgement Day), Jake Weary (Animal Kingdom, It Follows), Peri Gilpin (Frasier), and former NFL player Phil Villapiano, the craziest thing to happen on the set of "Rushed", how he approached this role in the movie, what he thought when he first read the script, the huge support they got from the New Jersey community in making the movie, who is his role model as an actor, what types of roles he wants to tackle in the future, and the restaurants that he likes to go to in Los Angeles.

We're back, baby! With worse audio quality than ever! E messed up her audio inputs so it sounds like she's recording at the bottom of a well, and J got a new microphone and is still adjusting. But you won't care about our sonic peccadilloes once we dig into "New in Town," the 2009 romcom that, like an Olympic diver scoring perfect tens, made no splash whatsoever. Renee Zellweger is the workaholic city girl who moves to a small Minnesota town, and Harry Connick Jr. is the laid-back country boy who teaches her how to loosen up, via hunting trips, tapioca fights, and telling her that his wife is dead. How do unions work? Join us as we compare our childhood impressions of Seoul (either visiting or living here) to what it's become today: a pretty awesome place to call home! In this week’s catch up, Sarah recommends her recent binge-worthy show on Netflix, Ozark. Our fave, Jason Bateman, is not only the main character in this dark show, but also the Director. He recently won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series. If you haven’t seen the show, you may have seen his reaction to winning the Emmy floating around on social media. We love you Jason! Let us know if you want to be on the pod! Julie had to take a break from serial killers and true crime podcasts (we’re looking at you Crime Junkie and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile) in order to lighten her mood. John Mulaney’s standup on Netflix was the perfect pick me up. If you haven’t checked out his three comedy specials (Kid Gorgeous, The Comeback Kid, and New In Town), you totally should. Just don’t do it while you are driving on the freeway and laughing so hard that you are crying and possibly get in a car wreck. We could not be more excited to introduce you to our guests today - our very own MOMS - Debbie Sebastian, Candy Short, Marlene Scharbrough, and Tammy McLaughlin. They indulged us by coming into the studio to share some stories from their own motherhood journey, ones they want to remember and ones they wish they could forget. Debbie Sebastian (Julie’s Mom) is a retired educator, stay at home mom, and pastor’s wife. She now spends her time caring for four grandkids in Indiana and Tennessee, traveling with her hubby of 48 years, and volunteering at the Madison County Literacy Coalition. Candy Short (Julie’s Mother-in-law) is also a recently retired educator, former working mom, and Mimi to two grandkids and two grand-doggies. Candy worked for 40 years as an elementary school teacher and principal in the Anderson Community Schools and Greenfield Central School districts. She continues to volunteer in these two school districts, various educational foundations, her church, and as the official E-Learning Day teacher for Matthew and Mary Kate (well, she shares this roll with Debbie.) . Marlene Scharbrough (Sarah’s Mom) is living proof that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. She and her husband of 42 years, Bill, have instilled their love of music into all three of their children. Marlene has served as a minister of music, a music and piano teacher, and an accompanist on the piano and organ throughout her career. One of her greatest joys has been playing in the weddings of her students. And of course, being grandma to all nine of her grandchildren! Tammy McLaughlin (Sarah’s Mother-in-law) has worked in a variety of settings, from nursing homes and in-home care, to start-ups and higher education. This momma completed her college degree while working part-time, and graduated alongside her youngest son. She also has nine grandchildren and loves being their Mimi! Make sure to follow our social media posts this week on Facebook and Instagram as we share photos from the past. Also, make sure to subscribe, rate and review the Momnesia Podcast on Apple Podcasts! xoxo - Julie & Sarah

Episode #14 of #PitchChris is here! Do you need answers to: Are you new in town and need to get on that first production.. what do you do? Are entertainment jobs ONLY on set? How do you showcase your talent to a casting director? Find out on #PitchChris Episode 14. On this episode of #PitchChris new in town how do you get on that first production? Are the only jobs in the entertainment business on set? And if you're an actor what is the best way to showcase your talent to a casting director? Hi and welcome to episode 14 of #PitchChris where you guys ask me questions about the entertainment business and I'm gonna answer them for you to ask me a question find me on social media at Chris DeBlasio #PitchChris and I'll be happy to answer all the questions you have this first question comes from Taylor let's see what she's got to say. I have a question for Chris as a writer producer and someone who also likes working on the set how do you think what's the best way to get in to get on a set in a new city like I just moved to Atlanta and like literally eight days ago and I would like to get on more sets and network with other people for you know writing and you know set work so how would I go about that? Hey Taylor first off welcome to Atlanta. So yes it's very important to get on a set and start networking so in order to do that you want to do a couple of things number one why not offer some of your services for free? If you don't have any contacts find some of the productions that are happening out here in Atlanta and see you mentioned that you're a writer maybe you could do some script coverage for a producer or helping out on the side just to get in. Also if you've never PA'd before doing PA work is great because if you're a producer in the industry it allows you to see what everybody does and the job functions which is gonna be very important when you're producing a project and of course while you're on set you're building relationships, you're making contacts, so when the opportunity arises for you either to write or produce you're gonna have those contacts to get started. Hi my name is Joseph Hudon I've lived in Atlanta for about a year. I currently work at a prop shop called Studio Service Group. We to rent and build props for various productions and events in Atlanta. I think one of the most important questions I had when I came up to Atlanta was how do I get a job in the industry? www.ChrisDeBlasio.com YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/chrisdeblasio Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ChrisDeBlasi... Having Finally made their way to Gearhammer, the party completes their delivery and takes in the sights. But what adventures await them next, in the biggest city in all the Realms?
When are we going to be done with the "business woman goes to a small town and gets cut down to size by a guy who wears flannel" plot? Please tell us! We are suffering! Please stop making these! Renee Zellweger is a beautiful, talented goddess among men and she did not deserve 2009's New in Town. No one did! Especially not us!
In this episode, the party goes forth while a party member goes missing. The party travels to Krezk where they hug statues, fight ancient evil once again, and lose an additional party member. Steve note: This episode was recorded almost weeks after the last episode, so once again some things are kinda foggy. You will also realize the quality is crazy better! While love seems to dominate the technology and relationships debate, friendships are also impacted by tech. If you move to a new city or country, it’s comforting to know that friends back home are just a text, video call, or snapchat away. But sometimes that easy connection back home makes it harder to hang out with new people in a new city. Sometimes you just have to be brave and ask, is anyone around here lonely too? Gabrielé Ptašinskaitė did it and after a positive response she created the Facebook group “Lonely internationals in Aarhus”. Today with more than 1750 members the group is a tool to meet people when you are a newcomer to the second biggest city of Denmark. By Rocío Valderrábano

Fatty goes local! Dave and Noah take a staycation and visit New Ulm, MN for this week's movie New in Town starring Renee Zellweger, Harry Connick Jr., and every extra that was passed over for the Cohen Brothers' Fargo. Zellweger is a Miami hotshot clawing her way up the corporate ladder. She is assigned to downsize a plant in New Ulm, MN. This is a town full of secrets, most of which involve Blanche Gunderson's mysteriously tasty batch of tapioca pudding. It's like Fried Green Tomatoes, but without the Southern heat, Klu Klux Klan and charmingly implied cannibalism. The town fireman kindles a fire in Zellweger's squinty, squinty eyes, but he's a country boy and she's a Cosmo-terian. How will they ever see eye to eye? The secret's in the tapioca! Dave goes local with his palette cleanser and gets a history lesson on the Dakota War of 1862. In keeping with the way Renee Zellweger prepared for Bridget Jones' Diary, Noah put on 20 lbs for this episode!

Moving along with volume 2 of the Beach House edition, I try to kick things up a notch. Standouts include "Stuck With Each Other" by Shontelle (though I would have preferred a duet with maybe Ne-Yo or even Chris Brown over Akon any day), "Heartbreak (Make Me a Dancer)" which needs no introduction, the 2009 update of Haddaway's 90's classic "What Is Love" (for obvious reasons), the smoking HOT "New In Town" by Little Boots (which hasn't reached our shores just yet), Ladyhawke's "Back of the Van" who I'm beginning to appreciate more and more and "If You Want My Love" by Soul Avengerz and Max C an irresistible combination of electro-funk. Frankly, there's not a bad song here. Just look at everything else as the super-glue that holds this mix together. I've got more stuff coming down the pike the next couple of days, so I'll do my best to get the third in this BPM series out by the weekend. Next week, you can count on the Beach House edition going T-Dance to round out your summer fun. The first three should be more than enough to fill up your holiday parties this 4th of July.
