V tomto hlubokém a strhujícím díle se vracíme zpět k biologickým kořenům vitality a klíčovému prvku našeho zdraví: energie. A pokud mluvíme o energii, musíme jít až k jejím generátorům – mitochondriím.
Pusťte si do svých uší! Gen 34, 25Třetího dne, když měli největší bolesti, se dva Jákobovi synové, Dínini bratři Šimeon a Levi, chopili každý svého meče, v bezpečí vešli do města a pobili všechny, kdo byli mužského pohlaví.Gen 34, 26 - 29Také Chamora a jeho syna Šechema zabili ostřím meče. Vzali Dínu z Šechemova domu a odešli. Můj snop náhle vstal a zůstal stát a hle, vaše snopy obklopily ten můj a klaněly se mu!“ Jeho bratři mu řekli: „Tak ty bys nad námi chtěl kralovat? Hodíme ho do nějaké jámy a řekneme: Sežrala ho divoká zvěř!
(To jméno znamená 'Poslaný'.) On tedy šel, umyl se, a když se vrátil, viděl. Sousedé a ti, kteří jej dříve vídali žebrat, se ptali: "Není to ten, kdo tu sedával a žebral?" Jedni říkali: "Je to on." Jiní pak: "Není, ale je mu podoben." On sám řekl: "Jsem to já." Odpověděl: "To nevím." Jiní naopak říkali: "Jak by mohl hříšný člověk činit taková znamení?" A došlo mezi nimi k roztržce. Řekli tedy znovu tomu slepému: "Za koho ty jej pokládáš, když ti otevřel oči?" On odpověděl: "Je to prorok." Proč to chcete slyšet znovu? Odpověděli mu: "Celý ses narodil v hříchu, a nás chceš poučovat?" A vyhnali ho. Farizeové, kteří tam byli, to slyšeli a řekli mu: "Jsme snad i my slepí?"
Rozvážný a klidný. A on jednou pravil: „Nechci, ty děti se moc pohybujou!"

1. Paralipomenon 21 Proti Izraeli povstal satan a podnítil Davida, aby sečetl Izraele. David poručil Jóabovi a předákům lidu: „Jděte, spočítejte Izraele od Beer-šeby až k Danu a podejte mi zprávu, chci znát jejich počet.“ Jóab králi namítl: „Nechť Hospodin zvětší svůj lid třeba stokrát. Což nejsou ti všichni, králi, můj pane, služebníky mého pána? Proč to chce můj pán jistit? Jóab vyšel a prošel celý Izrael. Pak přišel do Jeruzaléma. Jóab odevzdal Davidovi celkový součet lidu: Všeho Izraele bylo jeden milión a sto tisíc mužů schopných tasit meč a Judy čtyři sta sedmdesát tisíc mužů schopných tasit meč. I padlo z Izraele sedmdesát tisíc mužů.
Jan 4, 7-26 „Dej mi napít.“ 8 (Jeho učedníci totiž odešli do města nakoupit jídlo.) 9 Samařská žena se ho zeptala: „Jak to, že ty, Žid, žádáš mě, Samaritánku, o nápoj?“ (Židé se totiž se Samaritány nestýkají.) 10 Ježíš jí odpověděl: „Kdybys znala ten Boží dar, a kdo je ten, který ti říká: ‚Dej mi napít,‘ žádala bys ty jeho, a dal by ti živou vodu.“ 11 „Pane, nemáš ani, čím bys čerpal,“ namítla žena, „a studna je hluboká. Odkud vezmeš tu živou vodu? 12 Jsi snad větší než náš otec Jákob, který nám tu studnu dal? On sám z ní pil, i jeho synové a jeho dobytek.“ 13 „Každý, kdo pije tuto vodu, bude znovu žíznit,“ odpověděl Ježíš. 22 Vy ani nevíte, koho uctíváte; my víme, koho uctíváme, protože spása vyjde z Židů.

Bude to jasný předvolební dárek,“ soudí Markéta Malá. Echoprime.cz
Přijímejme a milujme každého bez nálepek a předsudků Drazí bratři a sestry, hezkou neděli! Dva zázraky, jeden uzdravení a druhý vzkříšení. On nikoho nediskriminuje, protože miluje každého. Já mu budu Otcem a on mi bude synem. O čem by ještě mohl David k tobě promluvit?

Bůh narušuje naší statickou beznadějnou rutinu, aby do jí mohl přinést život a naději. Bůh narušuje usedavý řád věcí, který má tendenci ustrnout, zastavit a pomalu vyhnít až do smrti. Bůh ale narušuje běžný řád svými zásahy, aby mohl přinést život, naději a svou přítomnost do životů těch, kdo mu je vírou otevřou. #evangelium #Jezis #bohosluzba #pochodenpraha #Velikonoce #vzkriseni #Emausy — Více informací o nás a další zdroje pro následování Ježíše najdete na našem webu: https://pochoden-praha.cz S jakýmkoliv dotazem nás neváhejte kontaktovat: info@pochoden-praha.cz https://linktr.ee/PochodenPraha https://facebook.com/Pochod.Praha https://instagram.com/PochodenPraha https://twitter.com/PochodenPraha

Kdo by zkoušky neznal.
Když přišel k domu představeného synagogy a uviděl veliký rozruch, všechny plačící a hlasitě naříkající, vešel dovnitř a řekl jim: „Proč ten rozruch a pláč? To dítě neumřelo. Jen spí.“ Oni se mu ale smáli. Když všechny vyhnal, vzal otce a matku dítěte i ty, kteří byli s ním, a vešel do místnosti, kde bylo dítě.

It's the SNL Hall of Fame: Class of Season Three!Transcript0:00:42 - JDAll right, thank you so much, Doug. This is JD here and you are about to enter the SNL Hall of Fame. Please wipe your feet before you come inside, as we don't want any filth in the Hall of Fame. The SNL Hall of Fame podcast is a weekly affair. In each episode, we take a deep dive into the career of a former cast member, host, musical guest or writer and add them to the ballot for your consideration. Once the nominees have been announced, we turn to you, the listener, to vote for the most deserving and help determine who will be enshrined for perpetuity in the hall. And that day has come. I am joined by Thomas Senna and we are going to go down the results and take a look at who has made it into the Hall of Fame and who missed the cut this year, who will be eliminated from the ballot and all sorts of other good stuff. So, before I go any further with this information dump, I'm going to say hi to my friend here, Thomas, how are you doing? 0:01:49 - ThomasHello Jamie, I'm doing very well. This is a special occasion. I got my tucks on and my bow tie. Let's announce some inductees. 0:01:57 - JDWell, before we do that, we'll just quickly go through the parameters that people had to cut through to make it. You need 66.6% of the ballot to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame. If you don't get at least 10% of the ballot, you are eliminated from the Hall of Fame And, of course, you stay on the ballot for 10 seasons. So we're only in season three. We don't have any jeopardy of that happening thus far, so that's good. That's good news. What are you most excited about today, Thomas? 0:02:35 - ThomasSeeing if some of the people who I thought deserved to be in the Hall of Fame if they actually make it. So one group in particular, one writing group in particular, has been a sticking point with me as far as not making the Hall of Fame. So I was going into this reveal just super curious to see if they would make it, if the Lonely Island, let's say it if the Lonely Island would finally make the SNL Hall of Fame. I think they've been deserving since they were on the ballot in season one, that's right. So that was my main thing going into it. this is where the hell is the Lonely Island? So I don't know. We'll see if they're in this time around. 0:03:16 - JDYeah, we definitely will. Okay, well, I can tell you off the top we have the biggest Hall of Fame class, the largest Hall of Fame class that we've ever had, the most members inducted into the Hall of Fame that we've ever had, which is staggering. We had a record number of voters turn out, like over 100 more than last year. We finished with 297 different voters. That's pretty impressive to me that you all came out and exercised your comedic franchise. That's just wonderful news. So I don't know, do we just go right into it? Let's get into it. All right, who is our headliner this year? Thomas, who made it with the most. 0:03:58 - ThomasSo with the most votes this season, at 83.2% of the vote we have, mr Dana Carvey is an SNL Hall of Famer. No surprise, i don't know about you, Jamie, but I thought this was a slam dunk Dana's in the conversation for greatest of all time. 0:04:17 - JDI think Absolutely. 0:04:18 - ThomasHe's like a great of all time Mount Rushmore. Those are the conversations that Dana is in. So Dana Carvey in with 83.2% of the vote. Congratulations, Dana. 0:04:31 - JDYeah, a cast member with the most percentage this year. Just a machine really. I mean, if you listen to Fly on the Wall now, it's aggravating to a certain degree because everything that somebody says spawns a bit. but I just think that's how his brain works. He's just always on. He's always thinking about how to make people laugh and how to leverage the different characters and impressions that he's been able to harness over the years and be fresh with them. He's truly a great, great SNL great. 0:05:09 - ThomasYeah, i don't know if it's cliche to say, but he's one of those guys where if you were going to go into a lab and build an SNL cast member, it might come out exactly like Dana Carvey. Yeah, and that was such a good point that you mentioned. Like he's just, he's all about the bit, he's all about what's going to serve the comedy, and you can hear it in his podcast and he'll even tell you that he might do it a little too much. Like he's said that maybe he steps on the guests a little bit, but that's because that's how his mind works. He's trying to. He's trying to find the bit in everything that he's talking about, and sometimes he doesn't have that thing where it's just like well, maybe, maybe I'll just wait my turn or whatever. I'll tell you that. But I think that served him so well when he was an SNL cast member, so deserving to be an SNL Hall of Famer. 0:05:56 - JDAbsolutely, Dana. The plaque is in the mail. Next on the list is another cast member and another first-ballot Hall of Famer, and that is Amy Poehler, with 75.1% of the ballot. What do you think about Amy Poehler, Thomas? 0:06:15 - ThomasYeah, I think another very deserving one. I think she was arguably maybe the face before Kristen Wigg got there. Maybe there was a little overlap, but I think Amy was arguably the face of her era of SNL. I think she was very beloved in her era. I know Jon Schneider had told us some crazy stats about Amy Poehler as far as just the sheer amount of sketches and the percentage of sketches that she was in when she was a cast member at SNL. But I think man, 75%, three forwards, that's probably about what I thought Amy would get, and rightfully so. I mean she was just a fantastic sketch performer. What do you think, Jamie? 0:06:59 - JDI think she did it all Like she really was a five-tool player when you think about it because she started out as a sketch performer. She started out as a featured player and sketch performer, and then she had a second life as a weekend update anchor she was tremendous at that as well. You know, working both with Seth and Tina Fey. She did it all Like she did it all, Like she is somebody who did it all and excelled, Like she did it all at a very high level, I guess I should say. And to me, I thought for sure she would make it. But the SNL Hall of Fame is tricky sometimes. Sometimes you don't get what you think. 0:07:42 - ThomasThe will of the people, man, that's right What this is. 0:07:46 - JDIn this case, it turned out in favour, So that's good Yeah. 0:07:50 - ThomasCongratulations to Amy Poehler for making it. So the next person, the next inductee that we have, also the first time on the ballot, with 74. 74.4% of the vote we have, but maybe not. Maybe not an original cast member, but pretty darn close to an original cast member. It's Bill Murray getting 74% of the vote on his first time on the ballot. Bill Murray, SNL Hall of Famer and you, Bill Murray fan, Jamie. 0:08:22 - JDI'm a huge Bill Murray fan. I had a renaissance with him, i think, when a lot of people did from his role in Rushmore. So that really got me back into him and it made me go back and look at the Saturday Night Live stuff. And if you think about it, he was really in a tough, tough position replacing Chevy Chase who was doing feature films and on the cover of magazines. Chevy Chase was, you know, it, it boy, and Bill Murray had some big shoes to fill And I think he did a great job. He became, you know, a leading man ask because Acroyd stayed in a sort of a glue role And Murray ended up getting a lot of you know, a lot of the male-centric parts and Did a fantastic job with it just fantastic. 0:09:14 - ThomasYeah, I think Bill would even tell you or admit that he Was having trouble in his mind gaining traction initially. That's why he did the whole plea to the audience sketch where he sat down and said hello, I'm Bill Murray. I'm not quite hitting on the show and here's why I think I'm not. And here, trust me, i am funny. Regardless of what you've seen on the show. I am a funny person. I'm just not funny on the show. So he was. So I think you know a lot of that was a great bit. But I think a lot of that was rooted in maybe something real that he thought like why am I not connecting? like why are you know? and, ironically, like his first show ever that he did was he was in a lot and he did a really great job. But maybe he had a string of shows where he Felt like he wasn't in much and he did that, that plea to the audience, that just really propelled him and then he had, you know, we ended up seeing Nick the lounge singer and Just so many of the nerds. There are so many memorable characters and he was just so Magnetic. He knew how to just grab the audience and take them whatever Bill wanted to take them. 0:10:22 - JDYeah, yeah, and he's continued to do so in his post-signal career as well. So, really wonderful, I'm, I'm, I'm so happy that Bill Murray made it on the first ballot because it would have been a tough one, like the next one, to explain to people No, no, he didn't make it on the first ballot. The next one we go to is Another cast member, another first ballot, Hall of Famer with seventy-three point seven percent, and that's John Belushi. Belushi, of course, little divisive in, you know, in our, in our current era, that we are in because we, we we've just got access to so much more information than we've ever had before. And There was a little bit of misogyny there. You know there were a lot of drugs, but he had a way of peeling through all of that and Making himself very magnetic on the screen. Very funny, very funny. I was never a giant blue she fan, i was a Murray guy. But there's no doubt that blue she belongs. There's no doubt in my mind. 0:11:29 - ThomasYeah, there's no doubt for me either in the seventy-three point seven percent, maybe a little lower than I would expect, but that, like you mentioned, you few factors in some of the things like the misogyny. A lot of times he didn't treat his Cohorts on the show as well. I maybe look down on them because of some misogyny that he had and that's factored in and as it should be, I think. If, if somebody values that and wants to keep Belushi off because of that, then I Absolutely agree with that. But his, since I've been doing this show and kind of getting in more to maybe the Original cast and watching sketches more in-depth, I've come to really appreciate some of the subtlety that Belushi brought to the screen, especially with the samurai. I just his, with his just facial expressions, with the samurai and his movements, and he could do it all as a sketch comedian. He wasn't. He wasn't just on the guy who yells a lot or on the guy who does pratfalls, as Belushi could do, could do everything he can. He can play it really straight and subtly He can. Only he can act with his eyes. He could be funny with just his movements. He could say clever things. So I think just all around what a sketch performer Belushi was has really I've really taken notice of that since I've been going back and watching a lot of the original cast, so I think I think Belushi definitely deserving. 0:12:56 - JDWell, drum roll. Can we get a drum roll for our fifth nominee? 0:13:05 - ThomasThe lonely island is in the SNL Hall of Fame With seventy-three point four percent of the vote. We have the lonely island Third time on the ballot. So they went up from fifty-two point nine to sixty-two to seventy-three percent of the vote. So I think I've been banging this drum hard. I know, Jamie, you've been, you've been kind of wondering, you've been Extolling the virtues of the Lonely Island. I know our buddy, Jon Schneider, has been confused as to why the lonely island is not in the SNL Hall of Fame. But they finally are the lonely island Well deserving. You could still feel their impact, almost what. Now, 17 years, 18 years After they started doing their thing on SNL, they changed the structure of the show in a lot of ways, the presentation of the show. That's still felt today as far as pre-tapes and expectations of pre-tapes, and just iconic, just Influential. I'm so happy about this.0:14:08 - JDYeah, me too. I really only have a three-word Response, and that is lonely no more. They are on an island of Hall of Famers, and they rightfully are on that island. So Really glad to see that we don't have to have this debate with people anymore. 0:14:28 - ThomasYes, I know exactly, I don't have to get frustrated anymore. So congratulations, Andy and Akiva and Jorma, you three are SNL Hall of Famers. 0:14:37 - JDAll right, our first host, this fellow, made a tremendous jump. I'm not even sure it's Mathematically possible the jump that he made, going from 47.4% last year to 73%, and that is the store of the 90s, John Goodman. I have no issues with John Goodman being in the Hall of Fame whatsoever. He was there when I was there. I got to watch him every year. You know he's been a great friend of the show in terms of guest spots and You know if you were to write a guidebook of What what a good guest looks like, i think there'd be a chapter in that book that would be called John Goodman. 0:15:25 - ThomasYeah, he said. He said in the archetype for what a great SNL host is, he was on, I believe, 11 or 12 seasons in a row as Homes, from last 89 to 2001 or something. So he spanned the entire 90s And beyond. I think it was 11 or 12 Episodes and or seasons in a row. Because he was old, reliable, because he was so good, like if he was one of those were the cast when they, when Lorne would be in the office and say, well, we have John Goodman coming in in March to host, and the cast would be like wonderful like it's not that the cast could take The show off, but they knew that they would have somebody to play with and it would ease a lot of The burden that was put on the cast to put on a great show. They knew that they had somebody coming in who could live up to putting on a great show with them. Goodman was just in so a lot of good one-offs I don't know if you remember the sketch where he played the referee and he was. They were doing the show, the talk show, and it was fans asking the referee. Yes, this is basically just berating the, berating him the whole time.0:16:30 - JDThat's a one-off sketch Yeah yeah, he was. 0:16:35 - ThomasHe was a Cajun chef with, when he was on with the Phil Hartman, that recurring sketch, the anal retentive chef and John Goodman came in and played a Cajun chef and they were playing off each other Really well. He's one of the Braske guys, the Bill Braske guys absolutely so many Iconic things that Goodman came in and did. Whether it was recurring or one-off, goodman brought so much to the table and, yeah, 47% in season two. I think maybe some of the seas parted maybe after season two as far as who got in, and maybe a lot of voters felt that Now's the time that I can put Goodman on my ballot since I already took care of business with some other people. So yeah, I was a healthy jump with Goodman, and it's deservedly so. He's an I don't even know 12 timers, 13 times. I'm not good. Yeah, I'm not sure. 0:17:30 - JDYeah, I know that it's 11 in a row. This is where we need a chief statistician, all right. Next on the docket we have, another writer, and this one is equally interesting to me in the sense that They made a tremendous jump from season one to season two, and that is, of course, everyone's favourite late-night talk show host, Conan O'Brien. Thomas, I Want to let you go first, son, on Conan. 0:18:03 - ThomasSo this is the only one. No offence to Conan. He's honestly my favourite. He and Letterman are my two favourite late-night talk show hosts of all time. Like I'm a huge Conan fan, I listened to his podcast. Conan O'Brien needs a friend and he's wonderful at that He's. I love Conan and everything that I've seen him in. I just don't know that he's an SNL Hall of Famer specifically, right? if you just look at Conan's work on SNL, he was behind some good stuff, I think I remember I don't think this is him or Jack handy, but there was a skeleton sketch where John with Gal played, an Anatomy professor he was a professor and he was, and the skeleton would scare him every time he would look at it. And I've heard Conan talk about maybe he was, had had a little bit to do with that And so. But it's hard to think back at Conan's time at SNL and say, yes, he definitely put a stamp on the show. To me, It was more so. Other writers, like I said, like Jack Handy, maybe somebody else who we might talk about on this episode, but there are James Downey, there are other writers that were just more so influential on that era than Conan was and I don't think he would take Umbridge With with me saying that honestly and it's no offence to him, he's a genius Comedically, but if you just look at his time on SNL I had this is one of the ones that I don't quite agree with the voters here. I'm happy for Conan, but it's something where I'm just I'm not quite in alignment on this one. 0:19:30 - JDThis one, to me, screams like name recognition. You know, it's like We know who Conan is, above a lot of the other writers, even the Lonely Island. I changed the ballot from the first season to the second season to add their names on the ballot, just to make sure that everybody knew that the Lonely Island was Andy, Akiva and Jorma. You know, Conan is a writer. That is a name commodity and It would be interesting to know, to dig in if there was a way to do that, to find out, you know, if that's Where that came from, because it was surprising to me as well, especially, you know, in light of somebody else we're gonna mention. 0:20:15 - ThomasYeah, I think Conan's just lovable and People respect his overall talent and I think that bled in, bled into this for sure. 0:20:24 - JDIt's definitely. It's definitely tough to get people to restrict their votes. You know the conversation that you have with the guest That is so SNL-specific. You know it really is tough to sort of Separate that from. Oh my gosh, He was the talk show host that I grew up with, the late-night talk show host that I grew up with and I loved him and, And, oh my gosh, I listened to the podcast the other day and heard them doing the girly man dilemma you know, And right. So he's a writer, so you know he belongs, or whatever. 0:20:57 - ThomasYeah, yeah, yeah, exactly, and the. So the next inductee into the SNL Hall of Fame is. I'm very much surprised by this in a good way, in a positive way, because I didn't know if this person Was gonna have a chance on their first ballot and I'm pleasantly surprised that they're actually in on their first ballot. So another host, and it's Christopher Walken. With 69.7% of the vote, Christopher Walken and Jamie Burwood did this episode with me on Christopher Walken. It was so much fun to go rewatch his episodes and Just just bathe, in the oddness and silliness that was Christopher Walken on SNL, and the more I thought about it because I was unsure. Even going into that episode. I'm like I think he's a good nominee but I don't know that he's a Hall of Famer. But after rewatching his sketches and Talking to Jamie Burwood about this, I'm so happy that Christopher Walken is in the SNL Hall of Fame Such a unique presence on the show. 0:22:03 - JDThat was a great episode, Thomas, that was a great conversation. 0:22:06 - ThomasYeah, Jamie was awesome She came She really came through there. 0:22:12 - JDYeah, walk into me. He was a, you know, a host that brought silliness. And For a serious actor, for somebody that is known as, like you know, he was a freaking deer hunter for heaven's sake, such an intense movie and to see this guy come on and just Be silly and have fun and get his hands dirty, you know, that is Just a lot of fun and I'm thrilled that he's in. I'm, I'm absolutely thrilled. 0:22:45 - ThomasYeah, he was possibly the most iconic sketch of that era, one of the most iconic sketches ever with the cowbell sketch, Christopher. Walken I mean, yeah, people know Will Ferrell killed it in that sketch, But Christopher Walken was his equal, in my opinion, in that sketch, like Christopher Walken's Delivery and his funny lines, balanced out Will Ferrell's, a lot of will Ferrell's more physical, comedic style in that sketch. And Walken also had the continental, which people loved. Yeah, a recurring sketch for a host that you know. Christopher Walken was announced as host and people knew like, ooh, we're probably gonna get a continental. This will be great and just his, yes, Walken was just such an odd Duck and that served him so well on this show. Just such a unique flavour to hosting SNL. So I'm very happy about that. Christopher Walken is in. 0:23:36 - JDNext up. Cut the ribbon, and queue the band, because we have our first musical guest. Wow, as A Hall of Famer, it should come as no surprise. 0:23:49 - ThomasIt only took three voting cycles to have a musical guest cheese. 0:23:55 - JDBut I would say Paul Simon is, you know, quintessential. He's been there from the, you know, almost day one, day two, you could say, or week two, right through to Gosh. When was his last appearance in 2018? yeah, that sounds about right. 0:24:15 - ThomasYeah, that was his final performance. 0:24:19 - JDLike ever, Oh really. 0:24:19 - ThomasYeah, on SNL, no, just yeah. His final performance on SNL was actually his final performance. His final performance, yeah, as a musician. Yeah. 0:24:28 - JDWell, that's iconic Yeah. 0:24:30 - ThomasThat's enormous. 0:24:31 - JDYeah, yeah, I think, well-deserved. You could argue or nitpick if you wanted how many times he was actually the musical guest versus, you know, just having the show be a variety show based around him. But I think when you think of no matter what area you think of and you think of him, you have a good, good vibe, good memories. I mean the turkey suit, the boxer. I remember when he was on when he was touring Graceland and he had all the African dancers and band and that was so spectacular to see as, like a small town kid, you know, I saw that and it was like revolutionary. It was like, wow, this is so cool. I guess this is what world music is, but it was poppy and fun And, yeah, I think, well-deserved, yeah. 0:25:24 - ThomasAnd he 68.7% he finished with Yeah, Paul Simon got 68.7% of the vote and he reunited with Art Garfunkel on SNL. That's enormous. Yeah, that's huge After six years of them not performing together. He and Garfunkel reunited on SNL. And I know on this show we try to have categories, so we have our cast member, host, musical guest, and writer categories right, Paul Simon. I even told my guest for that episode, Matti. I said we're going to have to play fast and loose with the musical guest criteria with Paul Simon because he performed music on 15 episodes of SNL. Whether he was actually officially billed as a musical guest, maybe what was that? Eight times or so, but he performed music in 15 separate episodes on SNL And he's just. You can't argue that. His fingerprints were all over the show And that had a lot to do with his talent. I know he was Lorne and he are damn near best friends, but he was just always a guy who was called upon in big moments too. In the first episode after 9-11, who was there performing? It was Paul Simon. So, yeah, fingerprints all over the show. I'm happy we have a musical guest in. We needed some representation. So there you go, Paul Simon. 0:26:55 - JDThe next one I'm really excited about, and this is what I was talking about when we talked about Conan. I almost wish their voting numbers could have switched, because this person actually acknowledged our show, so that gives them extra points. As far as I'm concerned, this is another writer with 68% of the vote, and that's Robert Smigel. 0:27:20 - ThomasYes, Robert Smigel. I'll give a little context behind that. So Bill Kenney was my guest the great Bill Kenney for the Robert Smigel episode, And Bill actually reached out to Robert Smigel on Twitter. He DM'd him and said I'm on this podcast, SNL Hall of Fame, And I was wondering if you could give me some sketches that you wrote and some of your memories or whatever. And Bill just thought he would take a shot. He didn't think Robert would reply. But, Robert replied to Bill and gave him this nice comprehensive list of sketches that he was in And Bill said thank you. So Robert helped with research for his own episode, which I thought was wonderful, and I was surprised too by he wrote a lot of things that I didn't know that he had a hand in. Phil Hartman did a famous Ronald Reagan mastermind sketch early on, great sketch, wonderful sketch. I think that was the sketch that we played in full at the end of Smigel's episode. It was. I didn't know Smigel was behind that until he told Bill Kenny that he was. He just said so many classics. I talked about Conan O'Brien and his era, how Conan wasn't the guy that you thought about. As far as writers go, I think Smigel was the guy in that era. 0:28:44 - JDI agree. I agree Just that category of Smigel and Odenkirk and you know, as you said earlier, Jack Handy as well. I don't know that they hung out, but Odenkirk and Smigel did for sure, and just great sensibility, some different looks, comedically, yeah, I think I think well deserved, so happy to see writers being three writers, three writers in this class like that's enormous. 0:29:17 - ThomasYep, and if you look at Smigel's tenure, okay, so so he was. Just, you know, he wrote sketches early on, from like 86, 85, 86 until maybe the mid-90s. Smigel wrote all these classic sketches to Bears, he wrote the Kleck and Chicken, and he wrote Schmitz Gay. So he wrote all these classic sketches right, and then he left, came back and he did TV Fun House. So I think I think he was an SNL Hall of Famer before TV Fun House. If you only included his pre TV Fun House, I think he's still an SNL Hall of Famer. If you only included TV Fun House, by itself he might be an SNL Hall of Famer. You combine those. It's just incredible. Like Smigel, his fingerprints. As far as a writer, I don't think other than maybe James Downey I don't think it could be topped by Robert Smigel of what he delivered as a writer to the show. 0:30:12 - JDI tend to agree with him. One more, we got one more. 0:30:17 - ThomasWe've announced 10 so far, So we have a recap. So we have Dana Carvey, Amy Poehler, Bill Murray, John Belushi, The Lonely Island, John Goodman, Conan O'Brien, Christopher Walken, Paul Simon, Robert Smigel and this next person. this is the last on the list of inductees this season. Their first time on the ballot, So a first-timer from the original cast. an amazing glue person, wonderful, and one of the first great weekend update anchors. I'm talking about Jane Curtin. With 67.3% of the vote, Jane Curtin made the SNL Hall of Fame. This means a lot to me. We love Jane. 0:31:10 - JDI went back recently and listened to the episode you did with Andrew Dick. and just a phenomenal episode, maybe a Hall of Fame episode. It was tremendous, Andrew made a great case. Yeah, I listened to that before I cast my votes. I did cast a vote for Jane Curtin. To me, she's very deserving, but that solidified it. I think that's the resonant detra of this show. You listen to these great conversations and you're reminded. It's almost like poking a fire that is out, but the embers are still there and you poke away and then next thing you know you have another roaring fire. That's what our show intends to do, and when it works, it works. I have no doubt that Curtin made it in part because of that episode, but the largest part that she made it in was her body of work. She's got a tremendous body of work. 0:32:08 - ThomasYeah, she, she again. Weekend update. She was, she pioneered. I know Chevy Chase was the first weekend update anchor but I think Jane really grabbed the reins and made it her own she was the weekend update anchor after Chevy left until seeing at the end of season five And she and she and Murray co-co-anchored here and there But Jane was like the face of that And then she was like the greatest talk show host Absolutely And maybe an SNL history And that's a thankless role as a sketch performer. But Jane, Jane cause, because Jane was the straight person in those situations and played so well off whatever crazy guests that she had on her talk shows, like the Dan Aykroyd Irwin main way character. Jane played so well off of that Irwin main way character. And that's just what she did every time And she was really good when they gave her, you know, more straight like comedic sketches to work with. She could play that. She's just so darn likable and so darn talented. 0:33:14 - JDYeah, yeah, absolutely. So that is your class of season three, Really proud of everybody for coming out and voting. Again, we had more votes than we've ever had before. Let's look at the unfortunate side of things. Now We'll spend less time, you know, with these, with these nominees, for sure, but these are the ones that didn't make the cut. They fell under 10% this time around and they will be off the ballot next time. And we're going to start at the bottom. Unfortunately, the writing was on the wall with Lily Tomlin when she went from 15.5% to 13.5%, going from season one to two. Whenever you see that sort of shrink down, you do sort of get concerned that it's not going to work out. And sure enough, Lily Tomlin fell under 10% this time, so she is off the ballot. 0:34:13 - ThomasThink about Lily Tomlin's hosting gigs. I think a lot of her work was on the Lily Tomlin show. Yes, she was very talented, but she was I think she was so isolated in what she did on the show in many ways And just even compared to hosts from that era, I don't think she necessarily stood out or had any sketches that you think back You're like, yeah, that Lily Tomlin sketch, like you think about Steve Martin, for instance. 0:34:45 - JDYou can come up with a dozen. 0:34:47 - ThomasYou can come up with the Fair Strunk Brothers, but you think back to Lily Tomlin. I think she just sort of washes over people And that's probably what happened here with the voters in your right. The writing was on the wall. 0:35:01 - JDYeah, I think if we were, I'll have this vote in 1983 instead of 2023, she's likely in because, people, she was still a named commodity And unfortunately she you know she won't be a vote in Hall of Famer. There are other ways that potential voter nominees will get into the Hall of Fame that we'll deal with in the future, but for now, she is off the ballot. Thomas, you want to just run through the next three because they're all first-timers. 0:35:31 - ThomasYeah, yeah, so also off the ballot. Beyonce is off. She only got 4.9% of the vote in her first time on the ballot. Rihanna got 5.4% of the vote. She's off the ballot. And Elliot Gould also got 5.4% of the vote and he's off the ballot. So Elliot Gould, Rihanna, and Beyonce are all first-timers and all already off the ballot And I don't have a huge problem. Necessarily, Beyonce especially. She's probably so famous for her work outside of SNL that she's just not associated with SNL. She's had some great performances. Will Norman and I had a great time going through Beyonce's SNL appearances, but definitely not surprised. I mean Beyonce's just so Beyonce that it's not a surprise And we couldn't get it. Apparently, the Beehive didn't crash the party and vote for this, because she probably would have made it if that was the case Last year we lost Taylor Swift, so the Swifties didn't help her, and this year the Beehive didn't help Beyonce. Yeah, and I think Taylor Swift is a good comp to Beyonce. I think they're just so famous outside of SNL that it's hard to associate them with SNL for a lot of people. Yeah, what do you make of itd? 0:36:49 - JDElliot. Gould. Oh sorry. Yeah, Elliot Gould. I'm a little disappointed because he was correcting me if I'm wrong, but I think he's a five-timer. He's definitely a five-timer because he's in the new five-time sketches, so he's one of the first five-timers after Buck Henry. But I think he's too closely associated with the early part of the 70s when he was a raging movie star. He was a giant movie star And people think of him now as Mr. Geller People, my age thinks of him as Mr. Geller from Friends which is a little less prestigious. So I'm not shocked. In the same way, I'm not shocked with Lily Tomlin, but I'm maybe a bit disappointed because he is a five-timer. So that might be something we have to revisit. Rihanna, I think, has the same sort of thing as Beyonce, like she's giant, but I do think that she participated in some sketches And I think she, you know, I think of Shy Ronny off the top of my head And maybe it's too close to what she does normally like it was a song, it was a hip-hop song, so maybe that sealed her fate. I'm not sure. 0:38:06 - ThomasYeah, as far as Elliot Gould goes, he is a five-timer But I actually think I'm actually happy that that's not the end-all, be-all of getting into the Esna Hall of Fame. You know what I'm saying. Like I'm glad there's some subjectivity to it and people aren't just getting in because they're a five-timer. I mean, John Goodman is a ten-timer plus and he had to wait a couple of seasons, a couple, two or three voting cycles And so I'm glad that there's some subjectivity to it. Like the Baseball Hall of Fame, like the 3,000 hits I guess, is an unofficial kind of mark, but still, I mean you could get over 500 home runs, over 3,000 hits, and still not be voted into the Hall of Fame. Whether you know, when baseball there are some performance-enhancing drug issues that play there. But I'm glad there's not like a threshold to where if you've hosted a certain amount of times then you're just in, like there needs to be some subjectivity, because like a three-time host could have more of an impact on the show than a like a six or seven-time host. 0:39:11 - JDWell, I look at Adam Driver at this point. Adam Driver, to me, is amazing as a host, and I've watched a couple of the other Gold episodes. You know, I know it's different, I know it's from a bygone era, but it didn't resonate with me, you know. 0:39:27 - ThomasYeah, exactly Now, that's a good example, Adam Driver. I think John Hamm as a host was far, far better than somebody like Elliot Golden. So I hosted three times. So, yeah, I'm actually as far as I like Elliot Gold, but he wasn't necessarily one of the hosts that totally stood out to me even from that era. 0:39:47 - JDWell, we lost three others. I'll go in reverse order. At 8.4%, Elvis Costello. He went down from 8.2%, or actually, he went up, but not enough. Miley Cyrus has been on the ballot for all three cycles. She went from 7.1 to 7.6 to 8.1. So she was growing, but at this rate, she would have had to be on for like 15 election cycles to hit the 66.7 if she grew at that rate. And then Drew Barrymore went from 9.9 to 7.7. I think that's again. You know, she was an interesting choice for a nominee and it made for a good episode, but I definitely don't think of Drew Barrymore as synonymous in any way with SNL. 0:40:36 - ThomasI agree with that. I enjoy talking to Nicole Robine about Drew Barrymore and it was fun to re-explore Drew Barrymore's work, but I agree, I think I don't have a problem with her, same with Miley Cyrus. Elvis Costello is an interesting example to me of somebody who had a memorable moment on SNL, but it was a moment And he had other pretty good performances and whatnot. He was on the 25th anniversary with Beastie Boys, but really with Elvis Costello. it was that moment, in 1977 or whenever, that ended up getting him banned from the show, or I see you. so I say banned in quotes because who the heck knows if that was an official ban from Lorne, but it was an infest When we get Lorne on, we'll ask. 0:41:23 - JDWe'll ask him, that'll be one of the first things that we'll ask Lorne when he's on the show. 0:41:28 - ThomasYeah, so that's an example to me of like it was a memorable, infamous moment. Yes, But does Elvis Costello's appearances in his work on SNL warrant a Hall of Fame selection? Our voters said no. I agree with the voters. 0:41:42 - JDYeah, I think our voters I think, by and large, the voters got it right this time. Maybe, you know, maybe the Conan one is a little tenuous, but I'm certainly not angry that Conan O'Brien is in our Hall of Fame like I think. I think he will add some name recognition. I'm angry. 0:42:00 - ThomasWhat the hell, Conan, are you kidding me? No, i. 0:42:06 - JDThink that The voters did a great job. Now We'll wrap up here, just going over Anybody that you want to sort of discuss, so that you can see a pathway for season four. Obviously, the ballot will be restocked with 15 new names next year, but it's definitely peeled down from what it has been, so it won't be as monstrous next year when you vote. Is there anybody that you see that has a path to next year, or is there anybody you see that you're worried about Sliding out of contention? 0:42:41 - ThomasSo the person who I'm interested in is their path. So we had we have our first musical guest Paul Simon and the SNL Hall of Fame well deserved. This next person is another musical guest who I believe should be a lock. Snl Hall of Famer Voters haven't quite agreed yet, but Dave Grohl. So Dave Grohl was on the ballot in season two and received 32.2% of the vote. He jumped to 54% of the vote. So I see a path to where we can get in another Musical guest, a deserving musical guest, in Dave Grohl, and I think Anybody who's curious about Dave Grohl in SNL go Relisten to the episode that I did on him with Ryan McNeil. That was, I think. I don't want to pat myself on the back, but I absolutely loved that episode that Ryan and I did. 0:43:36 - JDthat's the episode that we're gonna submit for the potties. 0:43:39 - ThomasYes, Yes episode, because I think you know there was a lot of meat on that bone. Dave Grohl loves the show and has had so many memorable performances on the show in my opinion He jumped from 32 to 54 and I think there's a path to make the next leap for Dave Grohl and I expect, I hope and expect Dave Grohl to be an SNL Hall of Famer sooner rather than later. 0:44:08 - JDNice little rhyme there for me. I am looking at it Right now. I'm looking at James Downey, because James Downey, I feel, belongs in the Hall of Fame and one way or another we're gonna get him in there. But I would love to see him get in through the traditional process of voting. And so far, well, he didn't go up as much as he went up from season one to season two. He went from 30.3 to 44.4. He still managed to slide upward and He finished that just under 50% with 49.5. I think there's a path for him, maybe not season four, but definitely season five If he can continue this growth. But I'd love to see him go in in season four and get his due for sure. 0:44:53 - ThomasYeah, definitely. We have a cluster of writers there that Conan got voted in. Maybe that'll open things up for people to consider other writers. So we had Jack handy, who got 52% of the vote this year. We had James Downey at 49, and Franken and Davis at about 47%. Even Paul Appel got 34% of the vote. So there's like a cluster of writers that I'm interested to see what happens with them If they get, if they start losing steam or if they gain steam, and we all of a sudden look up and there's like Two or three writers, maybe at this time next year. Yeah, that's no Hall of Fame. So that whole writing category is gonna be interesting to me. 0:45:35 - JDThat's name one more that I'll highlight that I'm Really intrigued by, and that's John Mulaney went from 47.7 to 43.3 and then this year fell to 27.3. I don't know what I can attribute that to other than We got two hosts in, so maybe he lost some hosts there because we elected two hosts. Maybe it's because he didn't show up this year. Maybe some people are taking, you know, his, his time away. Maybe they didn't like Baby J. I don't, I don't know, I don't know. It's fascinating to me. 0:46:13 - ThomasI thought Baby J was fantastic for the. I do the record turning his intervention and Stay at the rehab facility into the material and a John Mulaney-type way. I thought I thought that was great. Maybe I don't, maybe he would. They held against quote-unquote off-the-field issues. I don't know, maybe people held that against him or maybe he's they. For me, the thing with Mulaney is I still view him as a Current, I guess. Performer, so maybe that you know, maybe people against him. 0:46:45 - ThomasHe's still an active part of SNL, so that could work against him. So so, yeah, that's an interesting one. Falling 16% from the prior vote is pretty alarming. Actually, that's, that's in. That's a steep fall For for John Mulaney. And I should say to the person who received the highest percentage of the vote without getting in Was Maya Rudolph. Maya Rudolph got 58.3% of the vote, only up from 57.9. Maybe it was just a crowded field as far as cast members, like new cast members coming in Your Dana Carvey's and Jane Jane Curtin's, John Belushi's Maybe that's what stifled a rise for Maya Rudolph. But Maya Rudolph, 58.3% of the vote, the most for anybody who did not get inducted into the SNL Hall of Fame, probably a path for Maya. I think Maya is gonna be in at some point. 0:47:46 - JDYeah, me too. It's too talented to not get the votes needed. 0:47:50 - ThomasToo beloved too, yeah, fan favourite. 0:47:53 - JDAbsolutely Well, Thomas. It's been great going through this with you today and to listeners of the show, it's been great doing this with you again this season. We will return in September and With it with a brand new set of nominees and some great new conversations. Thomas, is there anything you want to wrap on? 0:48:15 - ThomasDo you want me to actually rap? No, I can't. I think it is Thomas Our listenership would drop if I pulled out some of my rhymes. But No, I'm just excited for season four. I'm excited for people to find out kind of how we chose the nominees and who the nominees are. Just the whole process was was very fun for me and, yeah, just looking forward to another season. I want to thank everybody who listens and votes and just doing this podcast means the world to me. I was telling Jamie, this is like this is my number one hobby is doing research and talking to the guests and Editing and pulling it, putting out these shows. So it's just been a wonderful, wonderful thing. So I'm excited to keep going, excited for a brand new season. And the seas parted, we had 11 inductees and we had some people drop off the ballot So we have like, kind of the ballots gonna look a lot different. It's in a lot of ways next time around, so that'll be fascinating. But I just want to thank everybody for listening and voting. 0:49:21 - JDWell, on behalf of Matt, then, Thomas, we bid you adieu as you're leaving today. Please do me a favour and, as you walk past the weekend update exhibit, turn out the lights, because the SNL Hall of Fame is now closed. „Jedna půlka mě velí: Jdi před lidi a říkej to!
Juan Arboleda and Paola Montoya's first interaction with JDI Cleaning was through covering a couple of cleaning jobs. The local franchisee was so impressed by their work ethic that he offered them a franchise. They took that and ran with it, growing into multi-unit owners over the 20 years they've been with the company. In their tenure, they've increased sales in their Milton, Brampton, and North Halton region by 300 per cent, including making the jump from franchisee to franchisor. Within the last six months, their son Simon began assisting them on cleaning jobs, making it a true family franchise. Juan and Paola join us on Franchise Canada Chats to discuss: - JDI franchises are in the communication business, not just the cleaning business; - Engaging with cultural changes in a new country and how onboarding new Canadians reflects the franchisor/franchisee relationship; -Splitting the workload and responsibility to divide and conquer, keeping family issues at home and leaving work at the office; -and so much more!
Jak to máme my? Havrani mu ráno i večer nosili chléb a maso a z potoka pil. Tehdy dostal slovo Hospodinovo: „Vstaň, jdi do Sarepty Sidonské a zůstaň tam. Hle, přikázal jsem jedné tamější vdově, aby tě živila.“ Vstal tedy a vydal se do Sarepty. Přišel k městské bráně a hle, jakási vdova tam právě sbírala dříví. Nasbírám teď trochu dříví a půjdu to připravit sobě a synovi. Sníme to a umřeme.“ „Neboj se,“ řekl jí Eliáš. „Jdi, udělej, cos řekla, ale nejdřív mi z toho připrav chlebovou placku a dones mi ji. Potom připravíš jídlo sobě a synovi. „To jsi mi přišel připomenout můj hřích a zabít mi syna?“ „Podej mi svého syna,“ řekl jí. Do chlapce se vrátila duše, a on ožil. Eliáš ho vzal, snesl ho z horní místnosti dolů do domu a předal ho matce. „Podívej se, tvůj syn žije,“ řekl jí. „Teď vím, že jsi Boží muž,“ odpověděla žena Eliášovi. „Opravdu máš v ústech slovo Hospodinovo!“ '
Když před vás někdo postaví sklenici naplněnou do poloviny, co vidíte?

Kde brát síly, když dochází a když to chceme vzdát? 3 Sotvaže Izrael zasel, přitáhli Midjánci s Amálekem a syny východu a přepadali jej. Přicházeli do země, aby ji ničili. 6 Izrael byl od Midjánců úplně zbídačen. I úpěli Izraelci k Hospodinu. Říkali: ‚Což nás Hospodin nevyvedl z Egypta?‘ Ale teď nás Hospodin zavrhl a vydal do rukou Midjánců.“ 14 Hospodin se k němu obrátil a pravil: „Jdi v této své síle a vysvobodíš Izraele z rukou Midjánců.

The 16:9 PODCAST IS SPONSORED BY SCREENFEED – DIGITAL SIGNAGE CONTENT Generally speaking, the sun doesn't play very nicely with LCD displays when they're running outside. The brightness has to be cranked just to cut through glare, and all kinds of R&D work has to be done to effectively get out all the heat that builds up when a screen runs out in the sun all day. So what if there was display technology that actually did well in direct sunlight? There's e-paper, but that tech can't do the full motion or rich colors that are inherent in LCD displays. So how about a display that's reflective like e-paper, but is otherwise a more conventional LCD flat panel? That's the premise behind Azumo, a Chicago company that has developed a micro-thin front light for LCDs, taking the place of the backlighting arrays that illuminate millions or billions of TVs and display monitors. By day, in bright light, an Azumo-equipped display doesn't even need a light on, front or back. And at night, that front light illuminates the screen. Right now, Azumo does smaller displays for industrial and medical uses, and is developing the tech for tablets. But the company is equipping its production lines to do larger displays, with the idea that customers like media companies and QSR chains would take a liking to digital posters and drive-thru order screens that didn't run up big power bills just to be viewable. I spoke with Azumo CEO Mike Casper. Subscribe to this podcast: iTunes * Google Play * RSS TRANSCRIPT David: Mike, thank you for joining me. Can you tell me what Azumo is all about? Mike Casper: Yeah. Thank you, Dave. So Azumo is a display technology company that is really enabling something we call LCD 2.0, and that effectively is using all the great things about LCD, but it's making it much more energy-efficient, much more effective for all environments and ultimately safer on the eyes as we stare at screens more and more these days. David: And how is it different from the LCDs that we all know in traditional consumer or primary commercial displays? Mike Casper: Sure. So most LCDs that are out there today, the vast majority of them are transmissive LCDs and so the way that these work is the pixels essentially act like shutters of light, and so they either close or open allowing what's called a backlight to light up the screen and let the light pass through. While these backlights in these older transmissive style LCDs, they only allow about 7% of the light to make its way through those pixels. So 93% of all this heat and light and really wasted energy generated is stuck behind the LCD and so with this new style, and what we're helping to enable here at Azumo is what's called a reflective LCD. Essentially what the LCD manufacturers have done is put a mirrored surface on the back, so no light can pass through it but what happens instead is that light from the outside or external lighting will reflect off the surface and that's the way that you can see the display. So it's saving 90% energy, much better viewing in bright sunlight and outdoor environments, which is why it's a great application for signage. David: So it's a little bit like electronic ink in that you're using natural light to illuminate the visual surface. But different in a whole bunch of other ways? Mike Casper: Yeah, exactly. You're spot on. So E-paper and electronic ink were some of the first successful versions of reflective displays. Now those just like paper, ePaper paper are more diffuse and it's a lot easier to have light bounce off the surface and so if you've ever read a Kindle or a Kobo or any of these e-reader devices, they're fantastic out in the sun, the battery lasts a really long time. But just the way that those work, they're somewhat limited in color, a lot of them are only black and white or have some muted colors. But I think more importantly they're pretty limited with how fast they can update themselves and so they can't really do video or some of these other great things that we're used to with LCDs. Reflective LCD on the other hand can help to overcome some of those limitations with ePaper. David: So all of the compromises that you might have to make with the paper, particularly if you want to do motion media or really rich saturated colors and all that stuff, it's very difficult. But with this, you're effectively using the conventional LCD displays except your lighting from the front to the back, right? Mike Casper: Exactly. The vast majority of the LCD architecture is essentially the same and so you're able to get high-resolution, full video, refresh rates, all those great things about LCD, it's leveraging almost the exact same manufacturing process so there's a nice, robust supply chain. There's just a lot of great things about reflective LCDs that many people don't know about. David: So do you manufacture finished displays or is your technology something that goes into the displays that are made by mainstream commercial LCD manufacturers? Mike Casper: Good question. At Azumo, we manufacture and design and manufacture what's called the front light component. So we're really the lighting component, the key enabling technology for these higher-resolution reflective LCDs. Because it's fairly new, what we've done with our supply chain is as we've been working with some of the major LCD manufacturers to package their display with our front light and then we'll sell the whole module to a variety of OEM customers and industrial and medical and other consumer products. However, now that the industry's starting to build and improve upon the reflective LCD and know more about us and the fact that our front light does exist, they're also starting to purchase the front light directly from us, and then they'll create the module and sell it to their customers. David: What does that front light look like? I'm trying to picture it. Mike Casper: The best part is it's invisible. So you almost can't see it. David: That’s why I can’t picture it. (Laughter) Mike Casper: That's one of the key features for front lighting. So essentially we're a light guide component and light guides have been around since even when LCDs first started because most light guides are used, as I was describing earlier, for traditional LCDs, you have to light it from the back. And so most light guides are hidden behind the screen. You don't even see them. They're typically buried within the module and it's very easy to hide them ‘cause you have the LCD on the front. If you try to take that same light guide and put it on the front of a reflective LCD, it has to be completely transparent. So that's why it hasn't really worked using conventional lighting methods in the past and why something like our invisible front light is such a critical component because you want the user to see all the beautiful things apart from the LCD, not any components sitting on top. David: So is it like LED edge lighting with kind of a sheet or something? Mike Casper: Effectively, yeah. So we're using a modified edge lighting approach that is able to get an LED coupled into our material and when I talk about our material, it's about 50 microns thick. So it's about 1/20th of a millimeter, extremely thin. This is why we're able to get that embedded in the top layer of the LCD and the way that our system works, we're still able to capture all that light from the LED, channel it in, and then serve as a light guide that can deliver the light to the front of the reflective LCD when needed. David: So why would I want to do that? Mike Casper: So the biggest reason is really two-fold: Power savings is number one. Using reflective LCD with our front light module, can save 80 to 90% power consumption compared to some of the other EMS of technologies like micro-LED or OLED, or compared to even some backlit LCDs. So power savings is number one. You're actually using the light around you when you use a reflective LCD module and especially in the case of signage, oftentimes this is outdoors, you got the bright sun out there, let's use this great light source we have here which is the Sun. Why not just use that to our advantage? So that's the main reason. The second being, viewability in all environments. The Sun in that example looks fantastic, the brighter the sun, the brighter the display, and then in the case, if you're viewing it at night or in a darker environment, that's where our front light will turn on and so you get a nice glow on the display without it being distracting to the user. David: It seems from what you're telling me, like the application for this in terms of large format displays would be for high brightness outdoor displays. Is that a reasonable assumption? Mike Casper: Yeah, I think that's a great application for it. When you look at what other display technologies are trying to do for high brightness environments there's a lot of challenges, right? You've got to pump a ton of light, whether you're using Emissives, micro-LED, or OLED, you're just pumping so much brightness just to try to beat the sun and it's a lot of wasted energy. So yeah, I think that's a fantastic application right off the bat. David: Yeah, I've done some work recently around outdoor displays and talked to a lot of industry people and they're cranking 3500 nits, 5000 nits, that sort of thing and the amount of power has got to drive that, but also for those guys, when you talk to them, they talk about the sun being the enemy. They're doing everything they can to counteract the impact of the sun, whereas it sounds like you're putting these out there and saying, “Bring it on!” Mike Casper: Exactly the brighter the sun, the better. So yeah, I think that you're exactly right, that's the key. All these other display technologies are having to do all these workarounds, even think about micro-LED or LED billboards. They don't even have to be micro-LED, just regular LED billboards that are having to pump fans and other cooling mechanisms just to overcome the heating element of making these so bright during bright environments. The whole point of having LEDs, I thought was to save energy, not consume more. So I agree the sun is their enemy but in this case, with a reflective LCD, it actually boosts the performance. David: So to use the example of a Phoenix or Las Vegas, if it's outdoor street furniture at a transit shelter, that sort of thing. Through the day if the sun's out and beating down, do you even have lighting on? Mike Casper: No. In that environment, you wouldn't need to. We could see there would be sensors, maybe some brightness sensors that if it start to get cloudy and whatnot, it could turn the light on, but 80-90% of the time, you would have the sun out, it would be bright enough to see on its own and you wouldn't need any external lighting. David: I suspect you've got an engineer or you're an engineer and you've done the mathematical models. I'm curious what kind of money this would save? Mike Casper: Yeah, it's quite a bit, especially when you start talking about many of these digital displays that are out there right now, a majority of them are LED billboards. And today, some of the recent studies that have been done on the standard billboards outdoor for the transportation area are already consuming the same amount of energy as four households in the United States within a year, and so just one LED billboard that's running throughout the bright sun, throughout the night is already consuming a significant amount of energy. With reflective LCD, this could be reduced by 90%. David: But you can't replace a LED billboard with a reflective LCD display, can you? Mike Casper: Yeah. So what would you end up doing, I think it is very similar to how the LED billboards are built, where the modules are essentially started to daisy chain together to make larger sizes. You can do the same thing with these reflective LCD modules. You can have a very nice thin bezel and have say up to 55-inch diagonal displays, just be tiled next to each other until you build up the full size that you need. It’s also another benefit with the Azumo light guide, the front light that we're able to use. Most light guides have a bunch of LEDs along the edge that have hotspots and so this is why most backlit LCDs have to have some sort of a bezel or border to block those hotspots. But because our material is so flexible, we're able to actually bend that all the way behind the display. We are able to get a nice tight radius of about half a millimeter. So our border can be really thin and enables you to tile these close to each other. David: So this would be the equivalent of the super-duper-oh-my-god-amazing, add a few more adjectives in there, narrow bezel display? Mike Casper: Yeah, exactly. David: So they would just be like a hairline and I guess at a distance, you wouldn't even see that, like a billboard? Mike Casper: Right. It's all about that viewing distance. But yeah, especially when you're able to get some of these higher resolution LCDs in the tiles themselves, you can start doing just as good dynamic content on both as opposed to an LED billboard as well. David: So I suspect there are some people listening to this thinking this is interesting, but whenever there's new technology like this, the costs are through the roof and it sounds amazing, but it's not financially feasible to do it. So what are the cost implications of this? Mike Casper: Yeah. Good question, and I'd say we're at the forefront of it right now. You're starting to see over the past year or two more and more of LCD manufacturers showcasing these reflective LCDs in larger sizes. So I think Sharp maybe showed a 32-inch or around 30-inch last year. I know JDI has been showing a few examples over the past few years. Same with BOE up to 55-inch, I believe. So they're starting to showcase this potential, and with that, I should say is, I think they're also trying to understand the market dynamics and pricing. The good thing is that because it's built on the LCD infrastructure, which has been out there for years and years, fully capitalized equipment, minimal switching costs. So I think they're able to fundamentally keep the prices within an LCD realm, nothing crazy where you've got to go build a whole brand new,OLED fab or anything like that. You can actually use some of the LCD manufacturing capacity that's already out there. But then like any new technology, as you said, it's lower volumes to start and how do you price it and extend that out over time? I think that's still to be determined. David: So if you're working with a Sharp, NEC or a company like that, are they getting your layer at the original manufacturing line or is it something that they would add after the fact and say, “okay, now it's reflective”? Mike Casper: Yeah, so what we're doing at Azumo, with our front light technology, we're scaling up our production lines for these larger sizes as we speak, and so everything we've done over the past few years has been on displays ranging from one inch up to about eight inch diagonal. Just last year, 2020, we installed some new production equipment that enables us to go up to about 20 inch diagonal, and so in order to get to these larger displays, we're going to be installing some larger equipment to handle these larger panels. So today, our products can be found through the smaller displays and we're working with the LCD manufacturers to be scaling that up in the future, to be able to offer this to the signage industry for these larger panels as well. David: So it's not a physics challenge or anything else, it's just a matter of having the right equipment to do the larger displays? Mike Casper: Exactly. David: How do you deal with intellectual property? If you're dealing with Chinese manufacturers, there's a bit of a history there. I'm not totally sure how fair it is, I don't know. But there's always some antsiness about working with overseas manufacturers about their intellectual property and what's going to happen. Mike Casper: Sure. What we've done at Azuma, wwe're located in the United States as our headquarters, we do have some operations in China. And most of our core IP elements are actually still produced on equipment here in the United States, fairly close to us too, in suppliers that we use, so we're able to keep it close to the chest, especially those really core IP elements, I think that's always a key strategy for any display technology. But also recognizing that the entire display ecosystem for the most part is in Asia. So, you're going to have to be, as you scale the business or scaling technology, you're going to have to integrate along the chain there, and so finding ways to, from us, just determining at what point we have the production here versus a different location where we're still able to protect and maintain our IP. I will say too, it's one of those where we're always constantly innovating as well, and so filing new patents on new technologies as we're developing is another strategy of ours as well. David: So with those displays that are already out there, you mentioned the smaller ones getting up to as large as 20-inch, but a lot of it's a one-inch, eight-inch, that sort of thing. What are they being used? Mike Casper: Yeah, so all of the smaller products, when we first launched a little over three years ago, really the only reflective LCDs in the market at that time or monochrome, for the most part, going after industrial and medical applications, a lot of handheld products that we're using have these smaller displays looking for that power savings, and we're working very closely with Sharp. We're actually one of their value-added partners in their preferred lighting component for their reflective LCDs. So a lot of these handheld industrial products, medical products, IoT products, are out in the market today using our modules, and what's exciting for us. In the second half of this year, we'll be delivering some tablet products with our technology and reflective LCD embedded as well. So stay tuned for that, but that should be out the second half of this year. David: So that would be good for, again for medicine, but also for things like restaurants and so on, outdoor dining patios and people taking orders that way? Mike Casper: Yeah, that's another great application. The particular customer set for this tablet is more in the education space. Children staring at screens all day long, reflective LCD also has the benefit of being a little healthier on the eyes, so you're not blasting light from a backlight or from an OLED screen in your kids' eyes all day long, David: I guess it extends the battery life too, right? Mike Casper: Exactly. David: What is the operating life of your technology? Does it have any impact? A normal LCD might be 60,000 hours, does it bring it down to 50 or increase it? Mike Casper: Yeah, I think at least in terms of applying it for UV protection, a lot of those other materials and coatings that need to be applied for outdoor signage applications would still be applied here as well. So being able to get the 5-7+ year lifecycle needed for the UV protection can be incorporated. The LCD side, which I think is very similarly to how these LCDs are being used. Now what you might find actually is, because of many LCD specs that are quoted today for outdoor applications like you said, the 60k hours, that's probably actually more tied to the backlight because the backlight has to be pumped up so bright to fight the sun that it’s probably burning those LEDs out in the backlight. It's not actually the LCD itself, but probably the LEDs. So I think you could even extend that because you're not getting, you're not fighting the sun with those. David: Again, talking about the sun, some of the issues that have been around with outdoor LCD is obviously glare, but the one that really concerns operators more than anything else is that the displays are going to burn out and they're going to turn black. I think what they call isotropic, is that still a reality or because you're taking daylight heat out of the equation, it’s not really a worry? Mike Casper: That's a good question. I think probably the verdict's still out on that, but I would imagine that because the sun reflecting is actually making the screen brighter, I think you'd be avoiding that issue. But that's a good question. I don't know if there's been enough longevity studies with it quite yet in terms of what the long-term implications would be. David: How long has the company been around? Mike Casper: Azumo started in 2008. So we're coming up here on our 13th, 14th year. David: And how did it get started, like what led you down this path? Mike Casper: Good question. Bringing out the memory bank here. So we started down a completely different path. We actually started the business with technology around advertising signage in the sports industry specifically. So we were putting illuminated advertising logos, frozen in the ice of hockey rinks. Imagine all those logos on the ice that are always there and just started blending into the background, we could make them disappear and start glowing, in between whistles. So that was how we started the business and the technology, nowhere near LCD displays, but it helped us really think about different ways of creating really thin lighting. As you may know, ice for hockey rinks is pretty thin. They're about an inch thick or so, so you've got to have lights that can go really large and really long, but being very thin and invisible, and so over time we adapted that to now provide a front light for these reflective LCDs. David: See in Canada, you could also do them in curling sheets. Mike Casper: Yep, we looked at that as an option. David: And then you saw how small the market is? (Laughter) Mike Casper: Yeah, there were some good advisors and investors early on that suggested we pivot a little bit. David: Yeah, just advertising in general, a lot of startups get into that and then they realize, “oh, this is actually hard!” Mike Casper: Yeah. It's a lot harder than it sounds. David: Yeah, the technology is the easy part. It's schmoozing media planner. Mike Casper: Exactly. The ecosystem and the industry were just not what we anticipated, and luckily for us, the reflective LCDs had been improving and had a need and so that enabled us to pivot the business and move to what we are today. David: So where are you at now in terms of size of the company, number of people, all that sort of stuff? Mike Casper: Yeah, so we're almost 30 people now. Our headquarters is here in Chicago, in the United States. We've got about 20 different sales rep organizations globally now, both in North America, throughout Asia. We are still venture-backed, so we've got a great set of investors that are knowledgeable in the display industry and focus on energy savings, and the last round that we'd closed was our Series B. David: Okay, and what are the plans in terms of getting into transitioning or expanding, I guess would be a better way of describing it from what you've been doing to date, to getting into the sort of thing that we've been talking about for digital out of home and QSR drive-through displays, that sort of thing? Mike Casper: Yeah, and so that's a current growth area for us that we're putting a lot more effort behind. So the new production equipment, as I mentioned, can get up to 20-inch. There are some applications now that we can get into these smaller signage spaces and work closely with our LCD customers on some modules. So we're going to be showcasing some of those here coming up and then really expanding our production capabilities next year and getting on some of this larger equipment, being able to handle these larger panels, larger signage applications grow as well. David: Are you feeling the pressure to get on the outdoor stuff? Just because of the pandemic and how drive-thru has gone from something that a lot of people do to something that in a lot of cases is the only way you can get food from a fast-food joint. Mike Casper: Yeah, that's a great example. I think, there's definitely an increased demand and an interest that we're hearing from the LCD customers, because a lot of them already have a lot of those relationships with the out of home, and so we're already hearing it. more of a reverberate through, which is due to the pandemic. David: And do you want to be a brand or do you want to be just like a component inside that the manufacturers know about, but the regular digital signage ecosystem and certainly the end-users wouldn't know, wouldn't care? Mike Casper: That's a good question. I think, right now our focus is working very closely with the LCD manufacturers and serving them as our customers. In the future, we do see opportunities to partner with them, especially because we live and breathe this low-power reflective LCD, day in and day out, and so we think there are some opportunities to work together to create our own joint modules that are even further optimized, whether that's branded with us or something else, that's still to be determined, but either way, we want to partner with the LCD manufacturers and really drive the technology and performance to serve this market. David: There are observers in the industry who say that LED is going to completely take over. Between micro-LED and just fine pixel pitch LED, the need for LCD is slipping away and it'll be a niche product. I don't totally buy into that, but I can see how things are transitioning. Where's your head at with that? Mike Casper: There's obviously a lot of talks, like you said, with micro-LED and while there are great benefits with that technology I will say too, the LCD industry is massive. The ecosystem, the supply chain, there's a lot of vested interest to adapt that technology because it is a great backbone, and so that’s why I think micro LED, it's not going to take over. There's going to be great places for it, absolutely. But LCD is still going to have a predominant position, and that's why we're coining this reflective LCD as LCD 2.0, it's just taking the great things about LCD and adapting it for the world of the future, and I think especially with outdoor, it's a great application for it. David: Is there a lot of education that you have to do with the display manufacturers or do they get it and by extension, do you think the same thing will have to happen as they adopt it, that they'll have to educate their buyers? Mike Casper: Yeah, definitely a lot of education, because for those that know a little bit about reflective LCD, you're probably thinking what you saw with transflective LCD years and years ago, right? Like the first Game Boy, for those in the audience that played that, or remember that, that had a transflective LCD, which was retty grainy, had pretty bad colors, and so a lot of people I think have that in their head when they hear reflective LCD. “Oh, how great can it be?” So now that the industry is being able to leverage the Azumo front light, which is this again, transparent portion of it that enables the underlying LCD to have much higher performance, much higher resolution, better colors, et cetera. So there is a re-education about what reflective LCD is now versus what many people may remember it in the past. David: If you don't know what you're looking at, and you had a reflective LCD and a conventional LCD with the same brightness and basically the same panel, just lit from the front versus the back, would an observer be able to see the difference? Mike Casper: So depending on where you are, you'd see a couple of things different. So obviously in a bright outdoor environment, that would probably be your first obvious difference you'd notice where the reflective LCD looks fantastic, the backlit traditional one is going to have that glare, the contrast is going to get muted because all the blacks look a little grayer and the colors look more washed out, and you're fighting the sun which is going to overpower any backlight. So that'd be the first noticeable difference. If you're in a darker room or if you're really close to the display. Again, depending on what the application in the viewing distance looks like, the backlit LCDs at least historically have had a higher resolution and a little bit broader color gamut. Now a lot of that is due to the fact that reflective LCDs are still fairly new but they're increasing that color gamut and the resolution. Some of the latest ones I think are shown by Sharp are close to 300 PPI now. You would notice it today, there's a slight difference. But that’s a question of what's the application: are you watching it on your phone, 18 inches from your face, and you've got the latest and greatest Netflix movie on? Or you're providing information to a user that might be walking by in an outdoor environment? So there's definitely some room for improvement, but they're making a lot of strides and a lot of sealing room here. David: So if I'm to use the time-honored example of Coca-Cola and their particular Pantone red, would you be able to replicate that red? Mike Casper: Good question. With working very closely with the LCD manufacturers and tuning their color filters, we can actually put,t in our front light, we can have an RGB LED set that has finely tuned wavelengths, and I'm getting a little technical here, but we can essentially tune the color to match the color filter of the LCD to really boost that color gamut. And so that's where we can start getting towards that Coca-Cola Pantone and really the broader color gamut that's required for signage. David: Okay. All right. Really interesting. If people want to know more about this, where do they go? Mike Casper: You can visit our website, www.azumotech.com. We're also pretty active on LinkedIn and you can reach out to us at any time. We'd love to chat about your application and really appreciate the time here today.
When the NBA shut down due to the Coronavirus on March 11, 2020, Joe Rice knew immediately that his hospitality search firm, Joseph David International, would soon be in serious trouble. He also knew that he wasn't going down without a fight! In this episode, listen into my conversation with Joe as he describes how they immediately pivoted to a brand new market sector and finished out the year on their best-ever quarterly performance. Joe's story is highly relevant and relatable, and he doesn't hold back. Listen in to discover his biggest lessons and takeaways that can be applied by any recruitment business owner who aspires to build (or rebuild) a 7-figure firm. Episode Outline and Highlights [3:05] Joe shares his first experience in the Pinnacle Society and his ‘intense' encounter with Jordan Rayboy. [6:10] A critical and timely pivot - listen to how Joe dealt with the pandemic. [12:30] Joe shared the steps he took when re-starting his business and our discussion about building your database. [20:20] Shifting from solo full desk production to assuming the CEO role - Joe's shares his transition. [22:40] “Barbaric, caveman-like recruiting” and going back to the fundamentals of good old-fashioned hard work. [29:30] Operating in faith, listen to Joe's encouraging realizations when his company underwent trying times. [38:55] The mindset and mentality of a top producer. [44:36] What 2021 looks like for JDI. [48:41] Joe talks about the MogulRecruiter platform. A Difficult but Necessary Pivot Joe started his recruitment career around 2005 and with a core focus on the hospitality industry. With the implementation of lockdowns and mobility restrictions, hospitality is one of the most impacted industries during the pandemic. How was Joe able to deal with this sudden change? He started “I didn't go full time recruiting until ‘06 but it was all hospitality then… I worked for hospitality from that point, until last year. That is all I ever did.” A critical moment hit him around February 2020 when he attended a conference called ALIS (American Lodging Investment Summit) and CEO Chris Cahill of Accor Hotel connected with him. In a call, he was told by Chris, “Joe, I can't believe nobody's paying attention to this thing… the coronavirus… Joe, it's unreal to me, nobody is paying attention. The hotel industry is not paying attention. No one. And it's coming, it is coming I promise.” This got Joe asking around and realized not many people he knew at that time was aware of what was coming. This realization helped to prepare Joe and his team. A point came when he dropped everything in hospitality and pivoted to healthcare. His actions were timely and it proved valuable when clients from the hotel industry started telling them that their services were no longer needed. “Barbaric, Caveman-like Recruiting” and Going Back to the Fundamentals Joe and I had a discussion about the definition of ‘hard work' in a recruiter's field. Transitioning from hiring hospitality professionals to hiring healthcare professionals, what Joe realized is the importance of hard work and going back to the fundamentals. This is how he revealed his realizations, “I get to have a very stark contrast when I did jump back into full desk eventually. This business hasn't really changed that much. It's eerie, that it is one of the few businesses that has not really innovated much. They tried to innovate, but they really haven't. And the way that we made this turn, was good old-fashioned hard work. There was nothing scientific or magical beyond getting the data and at that point, it was phone calls, email, and activity.” Joe added, “It was just, barbaric, caveman-like recruiting.” A typical day for Joe was making 70 phone calls to try to get business and sending out email campaigns. A lot may have forgotten the fundamentals of recruitment - persistence, hustle and grind. Hear how this approach worked out for Joe. A Change in Paradigm and Valuable Learnings Undergoing trying times during this pandemic, hear Joe reveal his valuable learnings and realizations. Some of them are: The importance of persistence and hard work Having the awareness of how blessed you really are. The importance of a team. Trust me, you will want to hear it from Joe. His firsthand experience is definitely relatable to a lot of recruiters who have been adversely affected by the pandemic. Joe Rice Bio and Contact Info Joe is a Managing Partner and Founder of Joseph David International (JDI), twice recognized by Forbes as one of the best executive recruiting firms in America. He is also a partner in MogulRecruiter, a technology platform that provides recruiting, booking and talent solutions for service leaders.
3 Ten bydlel v hrobech a nikdo ho nedokázal spoutat už ani řetězy. 12 Ti zlí duchové ho prosili: „Pošli nás, ať vejdeme do těch vepřů!“ 13 On jim to dovolil. 14 Pasáci utekli a donesli o tom zprávu do města i do vesnic.

On řekl: “Ten, který mu prokázal milosrdenství.”
Jdi k mým bratřím a řekni jim: "Vystupuji k Otci svému i k Otci vašemu, k Bohu svému i k Bohu vašemu."”

In this episode... I speak with Nina Kohn, the David M. Levy Professor of Law and Faculty Director of Online Education at Syracuse University College of Law about developing on-line classes for legal education. Some key takeaways...1. Online classes are asynchronous or synchronous. Asynchronous classes are recorded and students can watch them on their own time. Synchronous classes are live. Students are all present at the same time and the professor is able to engage in dialog.2. Developing an online class is not as difficult as one might think (and Prof. Kohn explains how to make it happen)3. The key to creating an online class is to first identify goals and principles.4. Faculty can deliver the Socratic method through online learning.About our guest... Nina A. Kohn is the David M. Levy Professor of Law and Faculty Director of Online Education at Syracuse University College of Law, a faculty affiliate with the Syracuse University Aging Studies Institute, and a member of the American Law Institute. Professor Kohn is currently a Visiting Professor of Law at Yale Law School for the 2020-2021 academic year. Kohn led the development and launch of Syracuse University College of Law’s online JD program (“JDinteractive” or “JDi”). The program is the nation’s first fully interactive online JD program. A mluvil o tom otevřeně. Petr si ho vzal stranou a začal ho kárat. Neboť kdo by chtěl svou duši zachránit, zahubí ji; kdo by však zahubil svou duši kvůli [mně a] evangeliu, zachrání ji.

Twenty-four books were reviewed this year: Work Without Walls Working With Difficult People Disrupt Yourself Counter Mentor Leadership The Genius of Opposites Pacing for Growth Out of Our Minds Violent Leadership Thinking in Bets The Introverted Leader Career Leap Crash Radical Candor Five Stars Brave Leadership the culture engine Let There Be Water Build An A Team Creating Things That Matter Why Great Leaders Don’t Take Yes For An Answer open to think Work together Anywhere QBQ! decide bringing the total number of reviewed books on the Choinque Bookshelf too well over one hundred. Most of the books were generously donated by the author or their publisher and in several cases terrific books arrived unsolicited. It’s always fun returning from a business trip and finding new books ready for reading, and a new author to meet and interview for a ChoinqueCast. Recurring themes during leadership excellence courses throughout the year included how to free up time to become a better leader, which really starts by getting to know people better. Grouping Leadership Course attendees into Baby Boomer, Generation X and Generation Y teams proved both valuable and entertaining as we discussed common perceptions and misperceptions between the three, only to realize all three generations want very similar things from their leaders. A continued emphasis on the importance of coaching, especially distinguishing coaching from evaluation, was evident in leadership course feedback and attendee action plans. Thank you to new partner Golden Media and Entertainment, a highly energized and youthful group working to bring leadership programs to Nigeria. Also, a hat tip to Bill Murphy of Piton Science and Technology, who kindly invited Choinque to join his Human Capital and Training Solutions, or HCaTS team earlier this year. Looking ahead to 2019, we hope to bring leadership programs to Mauritius in addition to Nigeria, launch our first programs in Puerto Rico, and may return in the fall to Canberra, Australia. Stateside, Choinque looks forward to working closely with TK Lamb of JDI LLC allowing JDI to offer leadership initiatives to the US Government. A talk to students at Cornell is tentatively scheduled in February and a possible Keynote in the UK may occur later in the fall. The ChoinqueCasts are a labor of love, curiosity, and passion to share knowledge. Let me know if you would like to connect with anyone in the Choinque network. Also, please provide feedback, especially positive reviews on iTunes so others may share our journey of goodness. Happy New Year!

A Solution for Every Challenge Introducing Steve Goddard and Resilia Medical Solutions Everyone remembers having an unfortunate urinary accident when they were young. Not only is it uncomfortable, but also embarrassing. Most of us grow past these challenges as we learn to better control our bladders. However, some women can be reacquainted to this problem many years down the line and through no fault of their own. One in five women experience urinary incontinence stemming from motherhood, age, etc. Currently, the only solutions are surgical in extreme circumstances, or some sort of pad or diaper. However, today's Boiling Point guest, Steve Goddard, is the CEO of a company with another discrete solution. Steve is the CEO of Resilia Medical Solutions and his company's product Uresta is a small item made of medical grade plastic, which is inserted into the vagina and applies pressure to a woman's urethra and blocks the passage of unwanted urine. The product was developed by Dr. Scott Farrell, an Urogynaecologist from Dalhousie University when he noticed that most of his patients who suffered from FUI were not in need of a surgical solution, but didn't have a good solution to their problem. This problem is not just a stigma or quality of life issue; its health effects can be spiraling. Check out this episode to see how there is a solution for every problem if you take the time to fix it. In this episode We hear about Steve's past life in banking and with JDI. Steve tells us why he took the leap into entrepreneurship after leaving JDI and about the companies he helped to start. Greg and Dave are made to guess what Resilia's product is. Steve explains how this product is an evolution of a device that has been used for hundreds of years. We also hear how venture capitalists reacted to the product versus individual investors. We learn that it can take up to seven years for a woman to speak to a doctor about their FUI. Steve tells us why the problem of FUI is not just a quality of life issue or a stigma and how it can seriously affect a woman's mental and physical health. Greg is impressed by the fact that when people come across challenges there is always someone out looking for the solution Dave notes that every business has that “big domino” that when it drops great things follow. This episode was recorded 22 May 2013 live and in person at Adobe's offices in Fremont in Seattle. You can download the m4a file or subscribe in iTunes. (Or subscribe to the podcast feed.) John Nack is Principal Product Manager, Adobe Digital Video. He has a blog (definitely worth reading, especially if you use Photoshop) and is @jnack on Twitter. This episode is sponsored by Microsoft Azure Mobile Services. One of the cooler features recently added is the ability to create custom APIs. Originally you were limited to standard operations on your database tables — but now you can design any API you want. This allows you to create a full REST/JSON API that's tailored to your app, that works as efficiently as possible. (And it's all in JavaScript. Mobile Services runs Node.js. Write your apps in your favorite text editor on your Mac.) Tonight's SPECIAL GUEST is Linda McFarlane, Deputy Executive Director of Just Detention International (www.justdetention.org), a health and human rights organization that seeks to end sexual abuse in all forms of detention. Linda will be joined by Troy Isaac, one of the people her organization has helped. Since 1980, JDI has worked to end the sexual abuse of detainees, in the U.S. and around the world. At the heart of JDI's mission lies a conviction that when the government removes someone's freedom, it takes on the absolute responsibility to protect that person's safety.
