Big Idea: Radically re-defining “church” The Church is…part of a community, called out from sin and into transparent relationships for the purpose of making Jesus famous in their city. I. Church never ends. Acts 14:26-28 From there they sailed back to Antioch where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work they had now completed. After they arrived and gathered the church together, they reported everything God had done with them and that he had opened the door of faith to the Gentiles. And they spent a considerable time with the disciples. II. Diversity is always difficult, but in the church, it's required! Revelation 7:9-10 After this I looked, and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes with palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: Salvation belongs to our God, who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb! III. "The Church is the Church only when it exists for others" - Dietrich Bonhoeffer. "and by others...he means EVERYONE." - Chris Poirier 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 Although I am free from all and not anyone's slave, I have made myself a slave to everyone, in order to win more people. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win Jews; to those under the law, like one under the law—though I myself am not under the law—to win those under the law. To those who are without the law, like one without the law—though I am not without God's law but under the law of Christ—to win those without the law. To the weak I became weak, in order to win the weak. I have become all things to all people, so that I may by every possible means save some. Now I do all this because of the gospel, so that I may share in the blessings. Next Steps: Believe: I want to become part of God's church today. Become: I will join a group this week. Be Sent: I will make Jesus famous this week. Group Discussion Questions: If you could change one thing about your church, what would it be? Why? What word would you use to describe your church? How did you bring “church” to work last week? Who are you currently disciplining? How can a different perspective help you solve a problem? What is your neighbor's biggest need this week? Pray for Jesus's church.

Big Idea: What happens when we follow God's leading and not the world around us? In the Beginning: Jacob Genesis 31:1-21 I. Situational awareness matters 1-3 Now Jacob heard what Laban's sons were saying: “Jacob has taken all that was our father's and has built this wealth from what belonged to our father.” And Jacob saw from Laban's face that his attitude toward him was not the same as before. The Lord said to him, “Go back to the land of your ancestors and to your family, and I will be with you.” II. Know the facts and talk it out 4-16 Jacob had Rachel and Leah called to the field where his flocks were. He said to them, “I can see from your father's face that his attitude toward me is not the same as before, but the God of my father has been with me. You know that with all my strength I have served your father and that he has cheated me and changed my wages ten times. But God has not let him harm me. If he said, ‘The spotted sheep will be your wages,' then all the sheep were born spotted. If he said, ‘The streaked sheep will be your wages,' then all the sheep were born streaked. God has taken away your father's herds and given them to me. “When the flocks were breeding, I saw in a dream that the streaked, spotted, and speckled males were mating with the females. In that dream the angel of God said to me, ‘Jacob!' and I said, ‘Here I am.' And he said, ‘Look up and see: all the males that are mating with the flocks are streaked, spotted, and speckled, for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you. I am the God of Bethel, where you poured oil on the stone marker and made a solemn vow to me. Get up, leave this land, and return to your native land.' ” Then Rachel and Leah answered him, “Do we have any portion or inheritance in our father's family? Are we not regarded by him as outsiders? For he has sold us and has certainly spent our purchase price. In fact, all the wealth that God has taken away from our father belongs to us and to our children. So do whatever God has said to you.” III. Finish strong 17-21 So Jacob got up and put his children and wives on the camels. He took all the livestock and possessions he had acquired in Paddan-aram, and he drove his herds to go to the land of Canaan, to his father Isaac. When Laban had gone to shear his sheep, Rachel stole her father's household idols. And Jacob deceived Laban the Aramean, not telling him that he was fleeing. He fled with all his possessions, crossed the Euphrates, and headed for the hill country of Gilead. So What? Life is hard God is always there The choice to listen and act rests with us Next Steps: Believe - I surrender my all to the glory of God and in faith to King Jesus. Become - I will seek to find where God is moving in my life and align with His movement. Be Sent - I will live out obedience in my actions and follow Him wherever He leads. Growth Group Questions: When did your faith compel you to stand out against the crowd? What are some examples of situations where it can be challenging to follow God's leading instead of the world around you? How can you develop situational awareness to discern whether we are following God's leading or the world's? What are some benefits of following God's leading even when it goes against the norm? How can you effectively relate to others when you are following God's leading when they don't understand or agree with you? What practical steps can you take to strengthen your faith and courage to step out from the crowd and follow God's leading? Pray for the Holy Spirit to use us to demonstrate what a life lived for Jesus looks like to the world around us.
Hector welcomes his friend and podcast co-host from The Pull List to talk about Chris and nomadic ways in church culture and nerd culture. Chris also shares about his non-profit gaming-focused ministry – Columbus Got Game – and his soon-to-launch business, Bytes and Brews.
Big Idea: What does obedience mean to you? Genesis 17: 15-27 1. A Promise: Mother of Nations. Genesis 17: 15-18 God also said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah. I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.” Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, “Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?” And Abraham said to God, “If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!” 2. A Promise: Isaac and Ishmael. Genesis 17: 19-22 Then God said, “Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year.” When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him. 3. Immediate Obedience. Genesis 17: 23-27 On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him. Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised, and his son Ishmael was thirteen; Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that very day. And every male in Abraham's household, including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him. Next Steps: Believe: I surrender my all to the glory of God and in faith to King Jesus. Become: I will seek to understand and grow in God's promises and purposes for my life. Be Sent: I will live out obedience in my actions AND my words this week. Discussion Questions: Is obedience an act or a process? Explain your answer. Why do we naturally dislike obedience? Was there a time when being obedience cost you a friendship? Can you truly follow someone you don't trust? What helps you hold on to trust even when things look like they're getting worse? Was there a time when you were disobedient to the Holy Spirit? Pray for someone who is far from Christ today.

"Aww man, you broke my GI Joe, now I'm ticked off." What happens when two tech titans go head to head in a federal court room over technology related patents and copyrights? Ceo's going head to head on the stand, engineers and programmers caught in the crossfire. Mat Lee here joined by our very own and much missed Eric Finkenbiner and Chris Poirier from aNewDomain.net to help you make sense of it all. What's the purpose of all this seemingly frivolous litigation? Is there even a point to technology patents? Who knows, but one thing is for sure, there's a ton of news and transcripts to analyze, and being the Android users we are, we decided to have a special discussion dedicated to the Oracle Google lawsuit. I hope you enjoy listening, and remember, share using the social in the upper right and make sure to subscribe to our weekly Android podcast. Keep reading after the break for links to some of the articles and transcripts we discuss. Thanks! Read more » The post AotA Special Report: Oracle VS Google appeared first on Attack of the Androids.
"More rampant speculation from your friends on Attack of the Androids." Hello and welcome to another episode in our weekly journey through the world that is Android. Mat Lee here with episode 32 of Attack of the Androids. Joining me this week is Seth Heringer, Joey Kelley, and Ant Pruitt! You guys all remember him right? Thanks for listening and as usual, please share with the social buttons and subscribe to the show! On this weeks episode we talk about getting a cheap unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus from Google Play, a brief teaser to my full on Android web browser review that should be hitting groovyPost.com in the next couple of days. After that we talk about Droidwall and why, if you're rooted, you should be checking what is using your mobile internet. Speaking of security, we talk about a scary clever Android trojan, but should you be scared of it? Who knows, you'll have to listen to find out. Get it? After that you know we have to talk about the Oracle versus Google show. Speaking of lawsuits, be sure to check the feed for a special AotA with Eric Finkenbiner, Chris Poirier, and of course, ME! Oh right, we also covered Google Drive! Check out groovyPost.com for some great Google Drive coverage. Keep reading for some show note link goodness, and of course, this weeks app picks!
