I speak about the challenges this summer with invasive work, but over coming challenges with our new addition to the Dbltree Family of Tools the Stihl FS 561 D-EM. I talk about replacing the seals on my Birchmeier Sprayer and where to get the seal kits for. The rest of the episode I attempt to focus on talking about the subconscious mind. I have learned the hard way what you say has an effect on future outcomes. I have come across a great book called Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill author of "Think and Grow Rich{. In this alleged interview with the Devil, Napoleon unconvers how the Devil uses fear and the habit of drifting to rule over our minds and keep us confined. By thinking for yourself you can embrace freedom. I'll be honest I need to imrpove on keeping my thought process straight for I feel I was on a good rhythm in my dialouge then a random thought appears which probably did have a connection and due to trying to make a joke to make an uncomfortable topic more lighthearted I missed the point. I do apolgoize and it is an art form I need to craft. I feel I am closer, but I need more mental discipline. At the end I attempt to explain this connection with the subconscious mind and how it's almost child like. It takes in everything and reflects who you really are. What you say leads to cause and effect and that is something I am learning to control so I can create a better outcome. I hope this might give you something to think about and lead you on your own path as I am too.

In this episode we're diving into a crucial topic that's impacting teens across America. We're witnessing a concerning rise in anxiety, depression, and tragically, record-high rates of youth suicide. But what's really troubling is the relentless stigma that keeps so many teens from opening up about their struggles and seeking help. Dr. Cam talks with two fantastic guests today: Erin Gallagher, the Executive Director of This Is My Brave (@thisismybrave), and Beth Murphy, the founder of Principle Pictures. These incredible women are part of the team behind the eye-opening documentary, "Our Turn to Talk." (https://www.ourturntotalk.com/) This film follows several brave teens on their journey to shatter the mental health stigma by sharing their own stories – raw and unfiltered.    Resources Mentioned in This Episode Watch Our Turn to Talk Documentary on YouTube Our Turn to Talk This is My Brave Teen Mental Health Month info and resource:  Jay Walkers for Suicide Prevention Awareness  FREE Guide: Dr. Cam's 10 Pro Tips for Raising Teens   Thanks for Listening! Devin: What do you see as your superpower?Mohan: I'd call my superpower troublemaking.Mohan Sivaloganathan, known by some as the Batman of social impact, is the CEO of the national nonprofit Our Turn by day and a hip-hop artist and speaker by night. Our Turn organizes student activists, helping them to find their voices and stories, empowering them to change the systems that constrain or limit their potential.Mohan shared an example of the work and its impact:One of our partner organizations brought together dozens of school board members from across the country. It was a community-building space. It was a training space. They were grappling with some of the issues that I already alluded to: the culture wars that are breaking out, the fiscal cliff that is coming soon with the expiration of ESSER funding, the fact that many districts are already dealing with deficits, attendance crises, and the continued mental health epidemic that young people have been dealing with, that increasingly educators and more are dealing with.So as they were thinking about all these different issues, what I appreciate is that many folks recognize, “Hey, we need to make sure we are directly hearing from students as as a part of this.”And so they reached out to us and said, “Hey, can you have some student leaders from Our Turn come and present at this convening?” We said, “All right, great.” We had to get together travel plans, a presentation and a curriculum quickly and try to figure out how it could work within the context of what school board members were thinking about. So the lens that was applied was how do you do authentic student engagement, equity-centered student engagement within the context of budgeting? And how can you think about participatory budgeting in a unique way? Our students doing what they do; they absolutely knocked it out of the park. They pulled back the curtain. They delivered this wake-up call and a call to action to the folks who were in this breakout session. So it was a breakout session featuring student leaders. They talked about how young people want to be engaged and involved. Here are some of the pros and cons in that process. Here's how it can work within the context of participatory budgeting. So it was something that was very actionable. It wasn't just hypothetical and values-based, but it was something that was very actionable. Fast forward to the end of the conference, where the organizers were bringing everybody back together into the main hall. People had engaged in all sorts of learning, including our session and others. The organizers stood on the main stage and announced, “Hey, we had student leaders from Our Turn who were in a breakout session, and it was amazing. Next year, they're going to be right here on the main stage.”That was recognition that everybody had who happened to be in that small room with students, that young people deserve the microphone, that in this time where there is such deep polarization and division, animosity, cynicism, you name it, within our culture in the US and within schools, they are the group of folks who are the best positioned to lead a more hopeful and aspirational vision.Mohan attributes his success in building the organization to his ability to stir up what the late civil rights giant John Lewis called “good trouble.”AI Episode Summary* Devin Thorpe interviews Mohan Sivaloganathan, CEO of Our Turn, on the Superpowers for Good show.* Mohan is a social justice advocate working towards changing education and empowering students.* Our Turn aims to help students discover their agency to shape their future and create a just and thriving education system.* The organization trains young people to be effective storytellers, advocates, and changemakers.* They tell the stories of young people to understand their experiences and aspirations for the future.* Our Turn turns the tables on decision-making by helping young people shape their own efforts and campaigns to bring about tangible changes in the education system.* Mohan provides an example of student leaders presenting at a school board conference to discuss authentic student engagement and participatory budgeting.* The organization focuses on individualizing education and breaking away from the one-size-fits-all approach.* Mohan identifies his superpower as "troublemaking" and emphasizes the need to shake the status quo through voices, action, and culture.* He shares an example of using his troublemaking superpower to inspire and motivate leaders after the 2016 presidential election. How to Develop Making Good Trouble As a SuperpowerMohan's goal to make good trouble extends beyond his work at Our Turn and includes his speaking and performing. He shared an example of how he used his superpower immediately following the 2016 presidential election, leaving many in his community feeling disappointed–or worse. In November 2016, I was invited to an event that had 100 plus young next-gen emerging leaders who were working across the corporate sector and nonprofits. I was invited to come to this convening in DC and to speak and perform. This was about one week after the election—the US presidential election in 2016. Literally, as soon as I walked into this room, it was it was just it was dark. You could feel it. It was somber. There was this really tense, thick emotion that was that was in the air. I was in that room; I was feeling that, too.I was feeling disappointed. A few days before, I had people in my office at work. At the time, I was working in Human Services in New York. Folks were crying. Folks were literally crying in my office. This was a tough place for people to be able to navigate out of. So, I revised the remarks that I was planning, literally right there as I was in the room. I go onto stage, and I start with a performance of a song called “Our Time.” I performed the song and then, from there, delivered some remarks to the audience. The theme that I tried to share with people is that it's moments like this are why we're here. It's why we decided to take on a purpose-oriented field of work. It's why we've shaped our leadership in a certain way. It's why we've built this type of community. Yes, we're holding disappointment and sadness, and we need to try and find the fuel, the energy, the motivation to be able to still charge forward and to recognize this is indeed our time. This is our place, our moment. This is where we're supposed to be. This is a time to agitate more than you ever thought—not to fall back and to feel like, hey, it's not my moment anymore. But no, actually, this is your space. This is your lane; this is my space and lane. Let's go out and be louder and bolder than ever. I went off the stage afterwards and talked with a few folks. Multiple people came up and said, “Hey, look, I was thinking about literally leaving this field of work. I was thinking about leaving the nonprofit space, leaving this purpose orientation. I think it was going to be for me anymore. But I found the fire again. thank you.By heeding Mohan's message and following his advice, you can make good trouble a skill you add to your quiver. With practice, it could become your superpower, enabling you to do more good in the world.Superpowers for Good is a reader-supported publication. Throughout my career, I have led national organizations and advanced equitable solutions for systems change. I amplify my impact by channeling my voice and creativity to spark civic engagement through music and public speaking, with a footprint that has impacted thousands of students, young professionals, philanthropists, and corporate leaders across the globe. “Mohan's passion, his bare-naked honesty, his courageous storytelling – beautifully entangled in the rhythm of his infectious music – bewitched us and set the tone for learning, inspiration, and collaboration about changing mindsets and the role that each person can play in making the world a better place.” – Kyla Shawyer, CEO of The Resource Alliance I am a first-generation American and son of Asian immigrants, and I lean into the power of identity, culture, and social innovation to move people, money, resources, and policies in pursuit of justice. As shared by Derek Humphries, Director of DTV Group, I draw on family heritage, contemporary politics, the emotions and experiences of audiences, and the deep heritage of social struggle to inspire diverse stakeholders and influence lasting positive change in the arts, education, human services, and business. “…his passionate music performances can come only from a place of deep social engagement that genuinely changes lives for the better. Mohan is the kind of constructive troublemaker that we need to see more of.” – Derek Humphries I'm grateful for the recognition I have received, such as being named a 40 Under 40 Rising Star in NY and being featured by Fast Company, Good is the New Cool, ESPN, and more. Even with those spotlights, I'm better recognized as “joyfully serious,” as coined by a friend and colleague. I am hungry to disrupt the status quo, and equally passionate about cultivating a journey with teammates that is marked by wellbeing, growth, and fulfillment. This duality isn't common, and might even be jarring, but I'm compelled by these words from the Dalai Lama: “Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.”

Mohan Sivaloganathan is the CEO of Our Turn, an organization that works with young people of color to help them get a seat at the table in decisions about the K-12 education system. He describes himself as a “troublemaker for the status quo,” but he didn't always revel in that label. For years, he felt the discomfort of being an outsider. As a young professional at P&G right after college, he almost lost his job because of it. As he works with Gen-Z-ers on the cause of education equity, he sees in them bits of himself 20 years ago. He tries to support them and make sure they feel comfortable in their own skin and with their personal stories. But in part because of his own rough experience assimilating, he also wants to make sure they have context about how the world works -- he lets them know what is expected of them, whether or not it's comfortable for them.

THE BUNNY CHRONICLES - a History of Hugh Hefner & the Empire He Built - Playboy Magazine

APRIL 4TH, 2023  - A&E premiered the docuseries "Dark Secrets of Playboy." The executive producer of the series - Alexandra Dean personally contacted not only me - Corinna - Brian & Josh - but interviewed a multitude of Playmates as well as Hugh Hefners closest friends over a span, of two years, before the series aired.  Surprisingly Alexandra Dean an "award winning journalist"  crafted an entire series based on LIES and SLANDER from Jennifer Saginores book "A Childhood Lost - Growing up in the PB Mansion" as well as "stories" by  HEFNERS last group of girlfriends before his marriage to Crystal Hefner in 2012.Alexandra Dean and the other female producers behind the trash piece "Dark Secrets of Playboy" started calling everyone AGAIN, when the series premiered. These female producers had a crystal clear agenda. And with that agenda, a single &  consistently BIZARRE & FALSE message was heard over and over by OUR PB FAMILY.   HEFNER was a "sexual predator" as well as an "evil man." This message was heard loud and clear by all of us that spoke with these producers.  We literally were encouraged to speak out against HEF. Absolutely horrific

If you want to learn more about mental health and find possible resources, please visit this Ruderman Family Foundation link. Anastasia Vlasova was a rising tennis star and social media influencer when she started to develop an eating disorder. As an immigrant from Russia, Anastasia experienced a lot of stigma surrounding mental health from her family. After receiving some misguided advice from a school counselor, Anastasia realized how many adults don't know how to talk to kids about mental health. She started sharing her experiences with anxiety and her eating disorder, and after being chosen as the keynote speaker at Our Minds Matter's Annual Ball, Anastasia realized the power of storytelling. Since then, she has teamed up with This is My Brave, a nonprofit that uses performances to combat the stigma against mental health to help others share their stories. Today, Anastasia is an NYU student and host of the podcast Our Turn to Talk. She is also the subject of a documentary of the same name from Principal Pictures, being released this fall. A powerful investigation into a grisly political murder and the authoritarian regime behind it: Do Not Disturb upends the narrative that Rwanda sold the world after one of the deadliest genocides of the twentieth century. We think we know the story of Africa's Great Lakes region. Following the Rwandan genocide, an idealistic group of young rebels overthrew the brutal regime in Kigali, ushering in an era of peace and stability that made Rwanda the donor darling of the West, winning comparisons with Switzerland and Singapore. But the truth was considerably more sinister. Vividly sourcing her story with direct testimony from key participants, Wrong uses the story of the murder of Patrick Karegeya, once Rwanda's head of external intelligence and a quicksilver operator of supple charm, to paint the portrait of a modern African dictatorship created in the chilling likeness of Paul Kagame, the president who sanctioned his former friend's assassination. Book: https://www.amazon.com/Do-Not-Disturb-Political-African/dp/1610398424 Half British, half Italian, Michela Wrong has spent nearly two decades writing about Africa. As a Reuters correspondent based in first Cote d'Ivoire and former Zaire, she covered the turbulent events of the mid 1990s, including the fall of Mobutu Sese Seko and Rwanda's post-genocide period. She then moved to Kenya, where she became Africa correspondent for the Financial Times. In 2000 she published her first non-fiction book, "In the Footsteps of Mr Kurtz", the story of Mobutu. Her second non-fiction work, "I Didn't Do it for You", focused on the Red Sea nation of Eritrea. Her third, "It's Our Turn to Eat", tracked the story of Kenyan whistleblower John Githongo. "Borderlines", set in a fictional country in the Horn of Africa with a fiercely-disputed border, marked a move into fiction. "Do Not Disturb", which came out in 2021, is a scathing assessment of Rwanda under President Paul Kagame. She lives in London. Learn more: http://michelawrong.com/books/ Marian L. This weeks guest has a bio that's so impressive, and she continues to dazzle - it's Kirstine Stewart! If her name sounds familiar it might be because she is a high profile media executive and author of the bestselling book: Our Turn.  She is currently the Head of Shaping the Future of Media at the World Economic Forum. She was formerly the Head of English language services at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Vice-President of Media at Twitter, and President and Chief Revenue Officer of TribalScale...to name a few.Kirstine is married to the Honourable Zaib Shaikh, the former star of Little Mosque on the Prairie, and the current consul general of Canada in Los Angeles. At hear 17:35 Kirstine Stewart share a story about the right way to handle a sales deal."One of my earliest sales opportunities was to sell The Raccoons to Saudi Arabian television. They were willing to buy it site unseen, the BBC had just bought it, France 2 had just bought it, it was selling wildly globally, and it's a kids show - so should be relatively safe. But when I warned them that, ya know, given that they're a Muslim country, and that some of the main characters were pigs.... that they shouldn't be buying the same site unseen. That might want to consider that before doing so. I could have in that pitch made that sale immediately, but it was not the right deal to close. They said thank you very much, they did not buy the show, they came back later and bought a whole lotta other content afterwards anyways. So understanding what you client or audience needs is so important, and the authenticity means you're giving them what they need and what they want - and exactly that."Check out Kirstine Stewart's book! - Our TurnCheck out the book! - Fearless: Girls with Dreams, Women with VisionThe Fearless Women Podcastfearlesswomenpodcast@gmail.comThe Beacon AgencyThe World Economic ForumSponsors:BDCLockheed MartinExport Development Canada

Florida State Associate Head Basketball Coach Stan Jones is the longest tenured assistant coach in the Atlantic Coast Conference and his wisdom proves that. Having spent the past 18 seasons at Florida State under Head Coach Leonard Hamilton (previously with Hamilton at the University of Miami and with the Washington Wizards), Coach Jones' college teams have only experienced two losing seasons in 24 years. Each year, the FSU basketball team comes up with a theme, with the most recent being “Our Turn” when they were named regular season ACC Champs in 2019. Going into 2020 Coach Jones says the theme is “New Blood” as they compete against many traditional powerhouses like UNC & Duke (the “Blue Bloods”) in the ACC. When describing the importance of team chemistry, Coach Jones said that the “team must take over the team” in order to find success. To encourage this, the FSU basketball team has a period in practice called “Sugar & Hot Sauce” where one player calls out another and looks him in the eye in front of the entire team, offering one positive (sugar) and one negative (hot sauce) that he is challenged to improve on. In 2019, Coach Jones was inducted into the College Basketball Assistant Coach Hall of Fame.

Did you know that Millennial caregivers make up nearly a quarter of America's 44 million family caregivers?  One of them is Atlanta writer and dementia care advocate Aisha Adkins.  An only child and African American who grew up in a predominantly white neighborhood near Seattle, Aisha was bullied in school and had forty operations as a child.  But resentment is not in her wheel house.  In 2017, she founded Our Turn 2 Care, a website that connects young adult caregivers with information, resources and each other.  Aisha helped care for her dad when he had a stroke and she now cares for her mother who has Frontotemporal dementia, the most common form of dementia for people under the age of 60.  Aisha talks about how her childhood prepared her for caring for her mom, getting her Master's degree piecemeal from Georgia State University and her advocacy work on behalf of her fellow Millennial caregivers.  She also shares her learnings from caregiving thus far, and she tells us why she's perfectly happy spending a Saturday evening sitting on the sofa with her parents. To purchase a transcript of this episode please visit this page: TranscriptsAisha's websiteExplore Our Turn 2 CareSubscribe on iTunesGot a story to share? The three Ds we all tend to avoid thinking about, much less talk about? Death, Debt, and Disability. They’re extremely uncomfortable topics to talk about but it is oh-so necessary! What happens to your money after you pass away? If your parent or spouse passes away, do you know how to manage their finances to “clean things up?” What if your loved one becomes disabled and you are the one who will have to take care of them physically and financially? It’s not fun to think about the worst case scenario. We all think “it will never happen to us.” But the reality is that 1 out 3 of those Ds is 100% guaranteed to happen to you and your loved one. Death is just part of life, but how do you control the money after you die? How aware are you of the financial consequences of not talking about those topics with your loved ones? What resources are available to make these conversations easier with our loved ones? Death, Debt and Disability can take a major toll on your personal finances if you remain unaware of your responsibilities as a caregiver, especially if it happens to you at a young age. I invited Aisha Adkins, founder of Our Turn 2 Care, to discuss how we can make these conversations easier to have with our loved ones. Aisha has been a caregiver for her mom for almost a decade. This is a role she never anticipated to take on in her 20s. Today, she shares with us her story and how we can be more financially prepared to face death, debt, and disability. What we tackle in this episode: How to talk with your loved ones about the financial consequences of death and disability How to talk to your spouse about money before getting married The importance of financial transparency with your spouse or life partner Resources to use to facilitate these difficult conversations Follow Aisha Adkins Website Twitter Instagram Facebook LinkedIn Join the conversation and be part of the Made® community: Join the Self-Made CEOTM Club: http://bit.ly/SelfMadeCEOJoin Twitter Facebook Instagram

In the Kickstarter section, they talk about Quodd Heroes’ Relaunch, the SuperHot card game, and the Wyrmwood D&D GM Screen. Adrian also reminds us that Fuedem is opening for late Pledging. Some new expansions are announced, specifically for Quadropolis and Mystic Vale and the Golden Geek Awards nominations are open. The game discussion of the week is Robinson Crusoe.
