1. Mike DeWitt has been the head coach at his alma mater for 21 seasons, and has been a head coach in Division III basketball for 26 years in total. His coaching career is a testament to establishing a vision for a program based on a solid foundation of core values and having the persistence to maintain those values while working toward success. When he was hired at OWU (following 2 seasons at Hiram College and 3 at Centre College), his career record was 35-40. In his 1st year leading the Bishops the team posted a 5-20 record. The team improved to 11 wins in his 2nd season, but it wasn't until year 5 (the 2003-2004 season) that OWU had a winning season at 19-8. From 2011-12 through 2017-18, the team averaged more than 21 wins a season with 6 straight 20-win seasons. The numbers are undeniably impressive, but the courage, confidence and persistence to stand on foundational beliefs and do things the right way has given the program it's true significance. Please enjoy my conversation with Mike DeWitt of Ohio Wesleyan University. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jon-cook0/support
