In this enlightening episode, I had a conversation with the renowned spiritual leader and bestselling author, Marianne Williamson, to explore the deep themes of love, fear, and empowerment. Marianne shares insights from her decades of experience in spiritually progressive movements, her groundbreaking books, and her vision for a more compassionate and loving world. Highlights From This Episode: Redefining Salvation: The discussion contrasts the traditional Christian view of salvation (focused on inherent sinfulness and redemption through Jesus) with a more mystical interpretation that emphasizes inherent innocence and the need for a change in thought rather than punishment. Our Inherent Innocence: Marianne highlights the idea that humans are inherently innocent, created by God as extensions of love. This contrasts sharply with the traditional belief in original sin and the need for redemption. The Holy Spirit As Guidance from Within: The conversation emphasizes that God provides the Holy Spirit as a means to navigate life's challenges. The Holy Spirit helps individuals correct their thoughts and find love in their experiences. The Power of Forgiveness: Marianne discusses the significance of forgiveness and the power of prayer. They emphasize that being willing to see others differently can lead to personal transformation and healing. The Practical Application of Spiritual Teachings: Marianne explains that true spiritual growth comes from applying the principles learned in spiritual texts (like A Course in Miracles) in everyday life. This requires moving from intellectual understanding to heartfelt action. Community and Connection: The conversation touches on the importance of being surrounded by others who are also seeking spiritual growth. It stresses that connection with others can help individuals stay aligned with their purpose and values. Choosing Love Over Fear: The closing discussion encourages listeners to make conscious choices that align with love rather than fear, promoting the idea that individuals can create a "heaven on earth" through their thoughts and actions. In this interview, we talk about A Course in Miracles as well as Marianne's new book, The Mystic Jesus: The Mind of Love. Some of our conversation highlights include: how it serves us to understand Jesus not only as a historical figure, but as an inclusive, non-denominational inner teacher and a consciousness of pure love (which we can learn to cultivate in ourselves) how we've gotten so caught up in ego attachments, agendas, and conflict... and how to begin untangling from that what to do when we feel triggered, hurt, or offended by someone... without reactively going on the attack how to stop taking things personally and see the bigger picture (with some helpful anecdotes and illustrations from Marianne's own life) Marianne's inspiration for writing this book NOW, at this particular moment in history To connect with Marianne, please visit https://marianne.com or https://instagram.com/mariannewilliamson You can also join my email community and get access to my free Akashic Records Mini Course + weekly newsletter: https://josephinehardman.com/akashic-records-intro/ Visit my website: https://josephinehardman.com Thank you for being here, doing your inner work, and leading the way for others with your light. Episode SummaryIn The Work of Repairing Harm, the warm-hearted Jeffrey Weisberg joins the podcast for a rich and moving conversation about his experience with Peacebuilding and Restorative Justice practices. As the Executive Director and co-founder of the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding, Jeffrey shares his perspective and insight on the incredible value these practices have for relationships of all shapes and sizes. With equal amounts of energy, vision, and honesty, Jeffrey walks us through the key questions and approaches of what it takes to repair harm. Whether that is the challenges of refugees in Uganda trying to work through the pressures and hardships of living in a refugee camp, the impact fights on school campuses can have, or the longstanding mistrust between black and brown youth and police departments across America, Jeffrey provides a convincing portrait of how Restorative Justice and other Peacebuilding efforts are a profound resource for dealing with conflict. Specifically, he describes how four key questions and a good dose of thoughtful preparation and finesse, can create a space for repairing harm by discovering 1) What happened? 2) What was the impact? 3) How can we repair the harm? and 4) How can we ensure it doesn't happen again? Later in the show, Jeffrey emphasizes the importance of multipartiality in his work. Multipartiality advocates for ensuring all voices are elevated in the Restorative Justice process and equity work in general. It is essential for trust-building across communities with different concerns and experiences, particularly in light of racial disparities still happening. With nuance and humility, we come to learn that, yes, the work of equity requires sincere effort and care from everyone involved. We also get a powerful glimpse into why truth-telling and deep listening are at the core of repairing human relationships as we discuss the Police Youth Dialogue Model. Police Youth Dialogues bring together Police officers and the black and brown youth in the communities they serve to listen to each other's experiences. Jeffrey's tales from these events prove to be a moving and inspiring example of how differences can be bridged through communication.Throughout Episode #38, we get real and vital pictures of how peacebuilding and restorative justice can transform relationships, support communities, and change the way we deal with transgressions and injuries. Ultimately they offer us a pathway to reconnection. It is an honor to hear tales from one so heartfully committed to doing The Work of Repairing Harm as our guest, Jeffrey Weisberg. About Jeffrey Weisberg: Jeffrey is the Executive Director and co-founder of the River Phoenix Center for Peacebuilding. He has designed, developed, and implemented a wide range of programs and services in his local community of Gainesville, Florida, throughout the United States and in countries throughout the world. His work with youth includes police/youth dialogues, student/educator dialogues, peer mediation, juvenile diversion programs, social/emotional learning, restorative justice, youth empowerment, and coming-of-age programs. For the past 25 years, Jeffrey has served as a Florida Certified State Mediator and mediates cases involving juvenile offenders, family disputes, and conflicts within small businesses and organizations. In addition, he is using Restorative Practices to support the Department of Juvenile Justice, the court system, schools, prisons, and communities to bolster alternatives to the punitive model. He is a founding member of The Peace Alliance. He believes that by training and empowering both youth and adults to learn and practice vital communication skills, we not only create greater connections with others, but we can de-escalate conflict for safer and more productive outcomes.
(Originally aired on March 27, 2023) Marianne Williamson, a Democratic presidential candidate for the 2024 election, joins Andrew in the Ivory Tower Boiler Room. Marianne is a political activist, spiritual leader, and best-selling author. In total, she has published 15 books, 4 are #1 NY Times best sellers. In 1989, she founded Project Angel Food, a nonprofit organization that aims to deliver nourishing meals to those with serious illnesses who are home-bound. In 2004, she co-founded The Peace Alliance, a nonprofit organization that pushes for a U.S. Department of Peace. Marianne and Andrew discuss the current political and social climate of the United States, particularly the anti-LGBTQ+ policies that have been consuming the public. Marianne calls it an “explosion of mean-spiritedness.” She mentions the homophobia, racism, antisemitism, and other prejudices that are plaguing the U.S. and emphasizes the need to fight for justice. Marianne talks about the formation behind prejudices. They start as a thought, merge into a behavior, then manifest into a collectiveness of hatred. To combat this negative energy, Marianne explains that we need to harness the power of love in our politics! Love has been the driving force behind movements such as the women's suffrage movement and the abolitionist movement. On inequality, Marianne discusses how “democracy has not delivered on its promises” for decades. The power is in the hands of corporations, not the people, and that's why we can't get the same benefits as other advanced democracies such as universal healthcare, free tuition, and family leave. Marianne also recalls her past, revealing what she wishes she could tell her younger self: savor the present moment, enjoy youth, and believe that everything will one day fall into place. Undoubtedly, Marianne has left us with inspiring advice for our viewers. In this episode of the Darin Olien show, we will explore the need for collective responsibility in dealing with various societal issues, primarily the extent of corporate influence on US policy decisions, and how individual action alone is not sufficient to bring about meaningful change. My guest Marianne Williamson explains how the power of collective action is being underestimated and should be leveraged more effectively to challenge corporate influence and advocate for social justice. My hope with this episode is to highlight the urgent need our country has for radical change and the crucial role each person plays in shaping the world around us. Plus, the importance of electing a president who is willing to challenge the corporate duopoly and stand up against corporate interests. Williamson first ran for president in the 2020 election, where she was heavily criticized by mainstream media for her emphasis on a return to love in governance. She opens up about her struggles with the media and the judgement of others, revealing what the future of embodied, feminine leadership looks like. In this monumental episode we got to sit down with someone who has been a powerful change maker in both of our personal and spiritual journeys, Marianne Williamson. Marianne has been a leader in spiritual and religiously progressive circles for over three decades, published 15 books and is a 4 time NY Times Best Selling Author, and is the founder of Project Angel Food, a non-profit organization that has delivered more than 16 million meals to ill and dying homebound patients since 1989; originally created to help people suffering from the ravages of HIV/AIDS. Marianne also co-founded The Peace Alliance in 2004, and is currently running for the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination. Marianne graciously sat down with us to talk about: Getting real with ourselves in this current moment in history and asking ourselves: Who do I want to be? How do I want to show up? What does integrity look and feel like for me? How it's time for women (especially American women) to shift the focus away from men to ourselves, and take accountability for our own role in upholding patriarchal structures so we may begin to do the deep inner healing and generational cycle breaking that is required to stop metaphorically burning our sisters at the stake. The challenge of choosing love and forgiveness in a time when it may feel almost impossible to pull ourselves out of fear and “othering.” Living your spiritual principles in your real, physical life and not just in the abstract. It's truly hard to put into words the impact Marianne has had on both of our lives. Regardless of your politics, she is someone who is transformative and inspiring. Meet Marianne Williamson Marianne Williamson is a bestselling author, political activist, and spiritual thought leader. She has been a leader in spiritual and religiously progressive circles for over three decades. She is the author of 15 books, four of which have been #1 New York Times bestsellers. Williamson founded Project Angel Food, a non-profit organization that has delivered more than 14 million meals to ill and dying homebound patients since 1989. In 2004, she co-founded The Peace Alliance and supports the creation of a U.S. Department of Peace. Williamson ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 2020. And she'll be running for president again in 2024! To learn more about how you can support Marianne, go to: Marianne2024.com This conversation was one I'd been waiting to have for years. I became a fan of Marianne's years ago when I read her book Illuminata and became interested in A Course In Miracles. Marianne is known for her brilliant wisdom, spiritual teachings, and social justice work based on the principles from A Course In Miracles. I recently read Marianne's book, "A Politics of Love: A Handbook for a New American Revolution," and was overwhelmed by her visionary perspective on bridging the gap between spirituality and politics. We discussed the tenets in the book and how to start shifting our relationship to politics and ourselves through the practical application of love, well-being for all, and social justice. Love as a Transformative Force Marianne Williamson asserts that love is not merely a personal or romantic sentiment but a powerful force for positive societal change. We discussed how politics devoid of love and compassion perpetuates division and suffering, while politics grounded in love can heal and transform. This is as basic as seeing a child who's hungry and feeding them. We are wired for love and compassion, yet somewhere along the line lose this innate connection. Moral and Spiritual Awakening Marianne calls for a moral and spiritual awakening among individuals and society, as a whole. This means changing our internal narrative of not being political, which I can relate to. She is urging us to take a stand for democracy, or we seriously risk losing our freedom. Marianne believes an inner transformation is essential for addressing the pressing challenges we face collectively, such as inequality, environmental degradation, and social injustice. This brings us to why we must all do our inner work to heal past traumas, resentments, and grievances. In other words, you must do your part to be your ‘You-est You' before we can be our ‘We-est We.' Politics as an Expression of Love Marianne also encourages individuals to engage in politics to express their deepest values and spiritual beliefs. She emphasizes the importance of aligning political choices with personal integrity, empathy, and a commitment to the common good. Love in action is how we commit to greater social justice and economic equality. This means we do our inner work to address systemic injustices perpetuating poverty, racism, sexism, and other forms of oppression. I love that Marianne focuses on love-based politics that can bring about meaningful change and create a more equitable society. As she shared in this interview, let us not forget Abraham Lincoln's poignant quote, “With malice toward none with charity for all.” Taking Personal Responsibility Don't underestimate your importance and power in creating greater change for freedom, justice, and joy for everyone. Marianne stands for putting "A Politics of Love" into action by embracing the question, ‘What is the most loving thing you can do here?', and a commitment to social justice. She takes a holistic viewpoint toward transforming our society and country. It's Time We All Do Shadow Work Doing shadow work means meeting the challenging and triggering parts of ourselves that need, want, and require our compassion, attention, and love. What is needed on an individual level is also needed at a collective level. We discussed the necessity of our society owning that in addition to our inner shadows, ego-based judgments, and ‘attack thoughts', we also have this work to do on a national and collective level. This is something that we can all strive to do every time we embrace a challenging situation or person with love, understanding, and true forgiveness. Welcome back to another mind-blowing episode of The Long Game series. We'll call this one monumental. My conversation with Marianne Williamson. I was overcome with emotion and awe, that I barely even welcome her to the show
Marianne Williamson talks with Elephant's Waylon Lewis of Walk the Talk Show about why she's running for President as a Democrat in 2024..! She's a best-selling author, political activist, spiritual thought-leader, and, yes, a presidential candidate. They debate, agree, discuss, all respectfully and with honesty and passion. “No amount of personal transformation will deal with the fact that the planet is becoming uninhabitable if we don't stop fossil fuel extraction. You can drink all the green juice in the world, but they're poisoning the water and the air and the food. You can do all these things and transform yourself. But the zeitgeist of this moment isn't just about yourself. A lot of higher consciousness work had circled around into a kind of atomized narcissistic ‘it's all about me, it's all about me.' The transformation of the planet isn't all about you. The transformation of the planet is about us.” ~ Marianne Williamson Read the full article on Elephant Journal. Marianne and Waylon have previously spoken on Walk the Talk Show in 2014. Find it on Elephant, here. Marianne Williamson is a bestselling author, political activist, and spiritual thought leader. I was so pleased to be able to sit down for a great conversation with Marianne Williamson. In addition to being a prolific author, and known to many for her work in spiritual thought, Marianne has been a progressive activist for decades. Contrary to the way she was portrayed by mainstream media when she ran for the same office in 2020, Marianne is a thoughtful, careful, and circumspect political thinker. You can find out more about her positions and policy approaches to many issues at www.Marianne2024.com.Her Bio:Marianne Williamson is a bestselling author, political activist, and spiritual thought leader. For over three decades, she has been a leader in spiritual and religiously progressive circles. Marianne Williamson, a Democratic presidential candidate for the 2024 election, joins Andrew in the Ivory Tower Boiler Room. Joel Kimmel is a friend of the Peace Alliance, and brought a message about the power of words. By shifting from a mindset and language of ‘Doing' to a mindset and language of ‘Being,' he offered, we can open up greater possibilities of connection. Instead of 'tell me more,' say 'say more about that.' Instead of ‘forcing' (a doing action), use ‘allowing' (a being action). Instead of 'to-do lists,' create 'to have happen lists.' Listen in on more detail of ‘Being' and ‘Doing' and hear how the group reacted with a joyful and peace-filled response from the break-out rooms. Jerilyn Stapleton is a long-time friend and colleague in the Peace Alliance. She was on her way to Chicago for a National NOW conference, and had several challenges in traveling, not the least of which was inadvertently leaving her drivers license at home. Flying out of Burbank, CA, she easily used her SAG Film Society card as identification. Flying out of Chicago, however, she encountered obstacles. It's a story of being seen, being recognized, and how much our society relies on these small pieces of paper to make each of us a real person. Thankfully, she was able to complete her travels, having met new friends along the way. Today we have the distinct honor of speaking with the author, political activist, spiritual advisor, and one time US Presidential candidate, Marianne Williamson. You can expect a dynamic conversation as Williamson is rarely one to mince words, nor has she ever been known to flinch at confronting life's uncomfortable truths. Our interview starts off with a discussion about the necessity to come to terms with an old paradigm as part of the process of entering a new paradigm— and how the “letting go” process is critical to our development as a society. In the course of this we will examine the concept of reparations for past misdeeds of one group against another and how this might impact our spiritual well-being. Marianne Williamson is a bestselling author, political activist, and spiritual thought leader. For over three decades Marianne has been a leader in spiritual and religiously progressive circles. She is the author of 14 books, four of which have been #1 New York Times bestsellers. A quote from the mega-bestseller A Return to Love, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. While Marianne did not accept this assertion, she says that "an avatar is someone who has gotten there 24/7, and I haven't gotten there 24/7." Ben replied, "I don't need you to get it right 24/7, I just need you to get it right when it matters. You get it right when it matters.”Receive inspiration from Marianne's sage wisdom; especially on claiming one's power and ushering in a new political and spiritual era. Creating a culture of peace is a long and arduous road. Joining me today to discuss the incredible work she is doing in this arena is Anne Creter, a member on multiple boards surrounding peace and unity. Anne has worked as a UN Representative for many years now, having been a part of groups such as the Global Alliance for Ministries and Infrastructure for Peace, The Peace Alliance, and the Department of PeaceBuilding Committee. Through this work, she has advocated for a sustainable and genuine resolution for conflict within the US and around the world and has had a large political presence within her community.
