Send us a textA sweltering Florida chain gang. Mirrored sunglasses reflecting only your own desperate face. Fifty hard-boiled eggs and one man determined to defy expectations. "What we've got here is failure to communicate" isn't just the most famous line from Cool Hand Luke – it's the perfect distillation of this landmark film's exploration of rebellion against authority. Our deep dive into this 1967 masterpiece reveals why Paul Newman's portrayal of Luke Jackson remains one of cinema's most enduring symbols of resistance. Sentenced to two years for the minor offense of decapitating parking meters, Luke transforms from troublemaker to legend through his refusal to bow to the system. From the brutal boxing match where he won't stay down to his daring escapes that inspire his fellow inmates, Luke's journey resonates with anyone who's ever felt crushed by institutional power. The religious symbolism throughout the film surprised us – Luke as a Christ-like figure sacrificing himself for others, the crucifixion pose after eating fifty eggs, his final confrontation in a church. We explore how director Stuart Rosenberg created authentic performances by keeping actors in prison-like conditions during filming, even having them pave actual roads under the Florida sun. Paul Newman's determination to personally learn "Plastic Jesus" on the banjo resulted in one of the film's most moving scenes.Whether you're revisiting this classic or discovering it for the first time, Cool Hand Luke's examination of freedom, identity, and resistance against conformity remains as powerful today as when it first shocked audiences. Sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand – and sometimes a film from 1967 can still shake your world.Check out entertainthispodcast.com or follow us on social media @entertainthis_ to join our ongoing exploration of films that shaped cinema history.Support the show

Playlist;(sintonía) MOJO NIXON and SKID ROPER “Pirate radio” (Root hog or die, 1989)MOJO NIXON “Beer ain’t drinking” (Gadzooks!!! Before he died, Jesus gave his followers a simple job description. Their job is to do what he did. And what Jesus did was take the lowest position of service in order to serve them. That's the degree to which we are to love one another. Pastors have a job description as well. It's to prepare God's people to serve. In this episode, we will learn that a Plastic Jesus might let you have a consumer “me first” version of Christianity. But you'll never have the real Jesus without serving others, just like he served us.

Life Under the Sun, Pt. 10 Steps to Christlikeness By Louie Marsh, 10-30-2022 Drop Kick Me Jesus (Through The Goal Posts Of Life.) Written by Paul Charles Craft I Don't Care if it Rains or Freezes 'Long as I Have My Plastic Jesus Sittin' on the Dashboard of my Car a.k.a. "Plastic Jesus" by Ernie Marrs I've Been Roped And Throwed By Jesus In The Holy Ghost Corral. I Went Back to My Fourth Wife for the Third Time and Gave Her a Second Chance to Make a First Class Fool Out of Me by Rev. Billy C. Wirtz Hand me the Pool Cue and Call Yourself an Ambulance (- it's not real) Things aren't always what they seem. The same is true of us. A story from American Indian folk lore – a brave one day found an eagle's egg had fallen out of its nest, since he couldn't reach the nest he decided to put the egg in the next of a prairie chicken. After a while the eagle hatched and was raised by the mother prairie chicken to be one of her brood.           The eagle lived his life thinking and acting just like a prairie chicken, not knowing anything else. He scratched in the dirt for insects to eat, he clucked and cackled, and flew no more than a few feet in a hurried thrashing of wings, just like all the other prairie chickens did.           Then one day he looked up and saw an eagle soaring high above. It was magnificent as it soared on the thermals through the cloudless sky. The young eagle asked his mother what is that bird that looks so wonderful?           That's a eagle, chief of the birds, she said, but don't give it a second thought, you could never be like him.” So the eagle lived out his life as a chicken, never knowing the greatness he had been born too.           Christians are very often just like that! Made to soar into the heaven's with our Father, we scratch in the dirt, accepting a ho-hum life of mediocrity when God wants us to be world changers!   1) Always PURSUE GOD in my heart.   “2A wise man's heart inclines him to the right, but a fool's heart to the left.” (Ecclesiastes 10:2, ESV)   One commentator suggested this should be the slogan of the Republican party – NOT!!  Actually right refers to the place of God's pleasure.   “Christianity is a religion of the heart.” - DLMoody   “30And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' (Mark 12:30, ESV)   Jesus told us to love God with all our hearts- making our faith a thing of the heart and not just the head.   Example:      IN his Sunday sermon a preacher's subject was “Forgive your enemies.” After the sermon he asked how many present we willing to forgive – about half held up their hands.      No satisfied he harangued the congregation for another 20 minutes and repeated the question. About 80% raised their hands, so he lectured them for another 15 minutes and then repeated the question.      All but one elderly man raised his hand.      “My Jones,” the preacher asked, “are you not willing to forgive your enemies?”      “I don't have any,” he said.     “Mr, Jones, that is very unusual, how old are you?”      86 he said      “Would you please come down in front and tell the congregation how a man can live to be 86 and not have an enemy in the world?”           The old man shuffled to the front, turned to the congregation and with smile he said, “I outlived every last one of ‘em!” Cute story – but it misses the point – it's a great example of surface level, Pharisee type Christianity not heart deep Christianity.   2) Remember: There's no such thing as a SAFE SIN!   “1Dead flies make the perfumer's ointment give off a stench; so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.” (Ecclesiastes 10:1, ESV)   Seemingly little things can destroy your life and spoil your reputation. A few flies can destroy a wonderful perfume. A few moments of folly can ruin or severely damage your life.        Illustrations: Nixon and Watergate, Clinton and Monica.   3) When opposed STAND FIRM & REMAIN CALM.   “4If the anger of the ruler rises against you, do not leave your place, for calmness will lay great offenses to rest.” (Ecclesiastes 10:4, ESV)      It's in the nature of a chicken to quit and run away when the going gets tough. But if we are to be eagles then we'll be firm in our convictions – and calm and loving at the same time.     Don't yell and scream – you'll get much more respect if you remain calm and speak as calmly as possible about whatever the issue is. People don't respect quitters, yellers etc. They DO respect people who stand by their beliefs and don't run people who disagree.   4) Risk is good – but I must think STRATEGICALLY!   “8He who digs a pit will fall into it, and a serpent will bite him who breaks through a wall.” (Ecclesiastes 10:8, ESV)   5) SKILL  succeeds where strength fails.   “10If the axe is dull and he does not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more strength. Wisdom has the advantage of giving success.” (Ecclesiastes 10:10, NASB95)   6) My speech should be KIND & THOUGHTFUL.   “12The words of a wise man's mouth win him favor, but the lips of a fool consume him.” (Ecclesiastes 10:12, ESV)   7) TRUST GOD – only He knows the future.   “14A fool multiplies words, though no man knows what is to be, and who can tell him what will be after him?” (Ecclesiastes 10:14, ESV)

We assume that money problems are caused by scarcity. That's not always true. The fact is that our biggest money problems are caused by mastery. Instead of following Jesus and mastering our money, we allow money to become our master. And money is a cruel master. Most people want a Jesus who serves us. He forgives some sins, he gives blessings. He pats us on the head and sends us back out when we're feeling down. But real Jesus doesn't work that way. Real Jesus isn't here to serve you. Instead, he was clear in his teachings that if we are going to have anything to do with him, it comes on the terms of full surrender and following him, even though it costs us everything.

Becoming Iconic With Kris Whitehead In this week's episode, my guest Kris Whitehead and I discuss winning, success and what it takes to become iconic. Kris believes that we don't need more accountability groups. We need more WARRIORS in the fight. We need LEADERS who are willing to come together for a common cause... other than filling their bellies. Here is a message from Kris's website that I was so powerful it needed to be shared. Because we are living in a world that desperately needs leaders. NOT the fictionalized heroes, social media magnates, media-crazed whores, or peddlers of junk food/feel good personal development. We live in a time where grassroots leaders need to come together, in an alliance, to help one another understand how to connect, influence, and grow personally and together. We need to shed the persona of "Plastic Jesus", and stand fully in our commitment to integrity...in our personal understanding of faith, our families and friends, our willingness to focus on health, as well as our commitment to grow our businesses beyond financial success only for ourselves. In my journey this past year, during 'Rona, I joined forces with other business leaders from around the US. First hand, I saw the raw, unbridled power of a group of business leaders who simply do not allow exterior circumstances dictate their personal trajectory. I am grateful to be involved both locally and in my travels, with other like-minded people who continue to hold themselves to personal standards far above the norm. We broke business records even during the pandemic... We chose to come together as a family... We chose to run toward the fight instead of hide in fear... I want to share this same opportunity with you. It isn't for everyone, and it especially isn't for the weak of heart. Although the group will help you no matter what stage of business development you're in, its' design is for those who are willing to do the work required to make a serious impact on their personal finances or those who already are. This group is for LEADERS. By its very definition, it's for Leaders who are in pursuit of living life to the fullest, surrounded by like-minded people who encourage you to GO FOR IT...instead of judging you for it. Grab a pen and paper as I know you're going to want to do some heavy note taking during our chat. Thanks for listening! Plastic Jesus is a Los Angeles based street artist that specialises in bold  stencil and installation work, inspired by world news events, society, the urban environment, culture and politics.    His critically acclaimed work combines humor, irony, criticism  and unique opinion to create art that engages on many levels. Often questioning the norms in society Plastic Jesus confronts our compliance of culture and current affairs. The artist uses scale and contradiction as a means to highlight issues and opinions that often go unquestioned.  The aesthetic appeal of his work combined with the engagement produces an addictive mix that challenges our acceptance. Plastic Jesus is not about revolution, he is not a anarchist but would like to see some changes around the place. His work is more about shining a small light into some of those dark corners of society.  His work has been featured by The BBC, CNN, abc News, Huffington Post, Gizmodo, Buzzfeed, The Sun, The Daily Mirror, LA Times, LA Weekly, The Daily Mail, MSNBC, The Daily Telegraph, Complex art and Design, Time, Us Weekly, USA Today and many more. How many of us cringe when someone says "I just need to be real for a minute!" We instinctively know we're about to be on the receiving end of verbal vomit. Yet how many of us also cringe around fake people? People who never let anyone see past their forced smile? The truth about you is that you are a brand new creation! A lot of what our culture celebrates as "authentic" is anything but! No matter what emotions or circumstances we face, our Union with Jesus Christ is the highest and deepest truth about us. At the same time, the church often penalizes people for going through hard times! They provide "fake it til you make it" solutions, without telling us who we really are.  This week Mark and Cole dive into the tension between the New Creation realities given to us in Christ, and the apparent contradictions of human suffering. They also share practical advise for staying perpetually encouraged.    The new ending music is "The Light" by Glowing Moses.   In a city of sycophants, one man is calling us out for Keeping Up With The Kardashians and begging us to stop making stupid people famous. Plastic Jesus - dubbed the Banksy of LA - hit the international headlines when he built a wall around Donald Trump's Hollywood star of fame - but his work was familiar to many in the city before that... even if they didn't realise it. The British-born artist - who strongly guards his identity - is known for his renegade street art popping up all over the city.  He specialises in bold stencil and installation work, inspired by world news events, society, the urban environment, culture and politics. His critically acclaimed work combines humour, irony, criticism and unique opinion to create art that engages on many levels. You may also remember his ‘No more heroes’ piece featuring disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong connected to an IV drip which caught the world’s attention and was featured by many media organisations including CNN, the BBC, The Daily Mail and Huffington post. He says he’s not about revolution and he’s not an anarchist but he would like to see some changes around the place. In this pod episode Plastic Jesus suggests his work is more about shining a small light into some of those dark corners of society then standing back and watching reactions and opinions. He also talks to Caroline and Claire about going out to work at 4am, where he finds his inspiration and evading the LADP. http://www.plasticjesus.net http://www.plasticjesus.bigcartel.com https://twitter.com/plasticjesusart https://www.facebook.com/plasticjesusart http://www.beachfinancialgroup.com http://www.britsinthewood.com/listen
