“Your employees should be your number one audience, especially as you scale.” On this episode of The Shape of work podcast, we have Pritesh Mittal, Co-founder and COO of Growisto, an E-commerce marketing and technology company that helps brands grow their businesses online.Having worked as the founder of two ventures, Pritesh shares the significance of organizations treating their employees like their most valuable customers. He also shares:How scale changes a manager's responsibilitiesWhy is it important to define and document your company's core values before promoting themSteps to improving workplace communication through transparency and accountabilityHis biggest piece of advice for the first-time startup foundersChallenges in employee retention:Pritesh responds by saying that consumers and employees are two different things. As a consumer, one will use the same products over and over again. The needs will not change. However, an employee's needs keep changing. People tend to get bored in the same company, or these companies cannot match their requirements. Hence, people try for new companies. Thus the factors of trust, culture, and accountability are important. Even if the employees leave, the average time increases with the implementation of these factors. Employees as the face of the company:Pritesh tells his employees that there are two customers: the actual client paying for the product/service and the team members delivering for them. They become the face of the company.Often, companies give less importance to the candidates not working in the companies. They need to understand that it is the team that will communicate with these clients. If the employees perform, a company scales up. Can a culture of ownership help in an organization's scaling process?Pritesh partially agrees with the above-mentioned fact. However, he states that the needs of the companies do not change irrespective of their size. The only difference that prevails is transferring the motivation and discipline of work. When the company is small, the employees have a direct reach to their founders. The passion and dedication of the founders can motivate them to work. However, as the company grows, more people are required to transfer that impact (for example, middle managers).Attracting the right talents for the company with a well-defined culture:According to Pritesh, culture is not the only factor that should be considered while hiring. There are two aspects to be focused onFoundation: The company should build the basic principles and fundamentals of the company and then documenting them. Documenting the vision and core values offer people something for reference.Marketing: Once these values are set, the company needs to market them correctly.Changes in the hiring pattern:Hiring patterns revolve around the demand and supply of the talent pool. It does not matter where the employee is working from till they are delivering within their working hours. Another reason why the hiring patterns have changed is the funding. Pritesh says that the demand for developers has increased, but the supply is still the same.Follow Pritesh on LinkedInProduced by: Priya BhattPodcast host: Lokesh GautamGet highlights of this episode in our blog.

In this episode of the Building Better Cultures podcast, Scott welcomes Pritesh Shah, Chief Commercial Officer at the oncology company Novocure. When it comes to the bio-science space, Novocure leads the way with an emphasis on empathy – not just for patients confronting cancer but also for employees tasked with driving breakthrough science. Pritesh explains how Novocure’s workplace emphasis on employee engagement and strong internal connection are critical components to its workplace ethic and overall corporate vision. With its patient-forward focus, Novocure offers a new treatment modality featuring Tumor Treating Fields, a proprietary therapy that disrupts cell division in cancer tumors. In addition to empathy, purpose and vision are two other key pillars within the company’s business model. Pritesh shares with Scott the ways in which healthy and vital workplace communication enables employees to be most effective in serving patients confronting life-altering health challenges. For a workplace environment heavily dependent on sensitive personal interactions, Covid-19 lockdown initially handed Novocure some daunting challenges. Spontaneous brainstorming and creative problem-solving were core components of their workplace culture and adapting to a Zoom world required intentional efforts to keep everyone engaged. Corporate leaders like Pritesh have had to reconsider what worked and didn’t within the virtual context and what the post-pandemic era’s hybrid workplaces will need in order to thrive. Whether in bio-sciences or any other sector, going forward the most successful workplaces will require openness, intentionality, adaptability and a clear commitment to communication from leadership throughout the enterprise. Key Takeaways: Scott offers a big thanks for last month’s record number of downloads and ongoing social media support. A bit about the podcast’s new sponsor, Workvivo, an internal communications platform connecting people to their organizations all around the world. Learn more about Workvivo The podcast opens with some background about Novocure, an online platform whose mission is to help patients by providing critical, cutting-edge information. Pritesh’s academic and professional background as a pharmacist provide a unique perspective on the science as well as ability to communicate critical life sciences information. Novocure is an investigational device that leverages physics to fight cancer with an alternative approach that deploys electrical Tumor Treating Fields to disrupt cell division. The company’s cultural orientation is 100% patient-forward at every juncture along individual cancer journeys. Empathy as a front-and-center core value at Novocure and how it shows up in the company’s day-to-day interactions with clients and co-workers alike. How Covid-19 isolated people from one another and challenged Novocure’s ethic of empathy. (Short answer: Creative leadership was key.) Measures Novocure encouraged to ensure empathy internally despite the pandemic’s impact and limitations on face-to-face contact: Carve out time to create a space (such as virtual “coffee hours”) for individuals to connect without a business agenda. Connect on a peer level by staying open and organically sharing personal experiences and information (about pastimes or coping strategies or favorite digital media sites, for example). Using audio rather than video as a different avenue to cultivate deeper connection and focused communication. Innovation as central to Novocure’s leadership objective and cultural value set. Limited options and other constraints (such as an inability to communicate face to face) can sometimes yield more tangible results than wide-open playing fields. Workplace cultures that sanction “failure” foster out-of-the-box ideas and innovation. Internal communications and a culture of psychological trust are critical to nurturing long-term organizational growth. Debrief sessions and what they reveal through surveys, qualitative interviews, summary booklets and sharing sessions across different groups and internal functions. Internal communications are critical to cultivating knowledge sharing and employee engagement. Looking ahead: The future model for organizations based on research coming out versus reality on the ground. Novocure places a high priority on productivity – both in terms of work product and ways in which employees engage internally and communicate to stakeholders outside the organization. The importance of defining new parameters for the flexible workplace and establishing the best fit for any given situation. Working virtually can increase focus, decrease stress and commute time. Valuable problem-solving and bonding that occur with spontaneous, unscheduled conversation are not to be underestimated. Thoughts on leadership in the context of distributed work environments – the skills, ability and time to manage. Key aspects to consider: Well-defined vision and purpose as powerful drivers of employee engagement and motivation. Creating a space for all team members within the constraints of hybrid platforms that are neither all-virtual nor all-live. Ensuring frequent, high-quality connections and internal communication among leadership, teams and individual employees. When it comes to the workplace, the post-pandemic future will be iterative and individualized based on leadership and overall corporate cultural values. #28 - Gratitude is one of the tenets of my philosophy in life. Discovering the power of gratitude has been life-changing for me and if I could impart only one piece of advice for anyone it would be that. How did I get the founder of this remarkable app to be a guest on my show? Here is the backstory:A few years ago, I was at, probably, the lowest point of my life and I didn’t know how to get myself out. In my search for meaning and peace, I came across the exercise of keeping a gratitude list. Something resonated with me and it felt manageable so I started keeping a journal and would try to write all the good things that happened to me that day at night. What I found was that by the end of the day I would forget all the little things so I felt like nothing good was happening at all.I then found an app called GRATITUDE: Journal and Reminders. It was simple and the interface was pretty and soothing, and most importantly it allowed me to jot down things that I was grateful for as soon as they occurred because it was on my phone.Fast forward to today and things have improved tremendously. Actually, it is more accurate to say that I have improved tremendously. Not everything goes the way I want it. I experience pain and disappointment just like all people. But I am no longer rendered helpless and down for the count. I have learned to focus on the good and focus on what I CAN control which is me, my reaction, and my emotions. So last month, I was writing in my Gratitude App and a notice appeared inviting me to take a 7-day gratitude challenge. Even though I write down what I am grateful for daily, I took the challenge because more gratitude isn’t going to hurt anyone, right? At the end of the challenge, I received an email asking if I would get on a Zoom call with the creator of the app, Pritesh Sankhe, to give him my input and feedback about it.Uh, yeah! I accepted! And a week later, I was speaking to the man who has literally played a significant role in my personal journey. His app was the impetus, the turning point, that led me to where I am now.My life philosophy and attitude have been shaped because of this incredible app. And now I am sharing that same message in my own way. Originally, Pritesh wanted to ask for my feedback on the app, but instead, I think I rambled on about what I just described to you. He didn’t get a word in edgewise! And then I asked him to be a guest on my show and he said yes! So here we are! You are about to hear from a truly humble, kind, and generous man about how he came to create the app called GRATITUDE and how one spark can ignite and transform millions!Show notes for this episode can be found at:howtolife.com/028
GUEST BIO We are joined in the lab by Pritesh Damani, an engineer, entrepreneur, real estate investor and CEO-Technical Founder at RealtyCrunch. Pritesh who considers himself an engineer by definition loves to make things and already realized early on that he would retire by the time he was 40. He came from a very modest background, had the right people around him and had the uncanny ability to surround himself with the right people in his circle and identify demand in the marketplace which all contributed to get him to where he and his company is today. RealtyCrunch is the third business that Pritesh started from the ground up. It is a real estate collaboration platform that helps agents understand what their clients need, prioritize what they like, and collaborate with them to close deals faster. The platform is a Pinterest + Trello like collaboration web and mobile app which helps home buyers and real estate agents easily communicate on properties that they add to their wall (dashboard) to help extend the conversation and keep it organized while sourcing through multiple properties — it's now evolved into a docusign like-pre-filled form application and Pritesh has made it very clear that he will look to continuously evolve the application based on what the marketplace needs. Pritesh espouses work-life integration and believes that if you're passionate with what you do, then “you're never working even when you're working.” While in the lab with Pritesh, we discover that once you make things (with technology), you can keep making newer, faster, more efficient ways of making them. If you're a rising entrepreneur looking for the best combination of the start-up culture and how to identify opportunities, you will definitely be empowered with the technical and collaborative insights Pritesh shared with us in the lab. Has cancel culture gone too far? Do identity problems have identity solutions? Is there a way to balance diversity and representation with a genuine, human-based meritocracy? Does our society overvalue Intelligence Quotient and undervalue Emotional Quotient? Can we ever achieve a true meritocracy, where we fully embrace someone for who - not what - they are? These are the topics we try to come to terms with in our first episode of Season 5!

Kama Sutra is about as fascinating a name as "Pritesh Shah". America hold the phone and call 911 Rocco might have a Muslim in the studio! Actor, Comedian; Pritesh Shah joins Rocco #RoccoLateNight and "Jurassic Jen" Durst #JurassicJen and "One Man House Band "Ben Namnoum" #FrogatWhiskey at the Network Studios, and it's one hell of a good time! Pritesh Shah is a Stand Up Comedian colleague of Rocco's, and can also be seen on "Game Of Silence"( Amazon ), "Grimm", "Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders", and coming out on January 18th, Pritesh can be seen on the new TV series titled, "Six", on the History Channel. When this talented and funny guy is in-studio there's a shortage of "dead air". The first thing Rocco says is "Happy Thanksgiving", and Pritesh quickly engages the cast vehemently to what kind of Indian he is. Both things had nothing to do with one another, but this guy is "Pure Diesel"… no filter, says how he feels and tells it how it is.. so.. basically Rocco fell in love with Pritesh, but purely in a heterosexual manner. Probably because they both RAP. Rocco shocks the cast with his Vanilla "Ice Ice baby" parody Rap song about "Kama Sutra Love". Jurassic Jen has known Pritesh for a bit longer than Rocco, they are close.. she claims to have put him in the friend zone, but truth be told, Pritesh, although admiring her beauty, had "Friend Zoned" Jen right off the get go! I guess he knew that he's be fighting guys off for the rest of his life! Join Rocco and Jurassic Jen on this "Late Night Adventure" into topics such as "fat shaming", "Parenting", and "Pritesh's love for Yuvi Grewel, his partner on the "The PY Show". Are they Twins or Lovers, and will they pose for you?! Join us for a whole lot more too.. This episode is sponsored by "Meter Maid 3", coming to a theatre near you soon. "Frog(s) At Whiskey" play a smooth, improvised song to close the evening.
