Judson considers moving in with Brian. Brian and his family make a return visit to Cats: The Jellicle Ball now that it's on Broadway. Judson sets out on an adventure to find his misdelivered phone. Brian and his husband participate in their neighborhood's annual progressive dinner. The Hookup of the Week comes from a repeat submitter who takes some lessons from the podcast into his latest encounter. The two are then joined by Rod Thomas, aka electro-pop music artist and DJ Bright Light Bright Light! Rod sits down with Brian and Judson just two days before kicking off his co-headling Cosmic Light tour with “Queen of the Universe” winner and “Drag Race Brasil” host, Grag Queen, and talks about his mission with this and every one of his tours to bring joy and build community during these dark and divisive times. He teaches Brian and Judson all about his home country of Wales and its connection to music, he goes deep into his friendships and collaborations with Elton John and Scissor Sisters, and talks about how he has made a name and career for himself without ever signing with a label. They discuss the prevalence of misogyny in the gay community, they share thoughts on maintaining youth and taking risks throughout one's life, and they debate the importance of sex as a subject of artistic expression. Rod then helps Brian and Judson respond to a Go Ask Your Dad question from a 50 year-old listener in a 25-year open relationship who has never used the gay hookup apps and wants advice about how to start. Actor Miles Heizer details his difficult, yet "classic," gay coming out story, drawing parallels with his new show about a queer service member. We examine the painful legacy of conservative Christian upbringings and the societal expectation for queer individuals to share traumatic narratives. Despite increased acceptance, the conversation highlights the continuous struggle against religious-fueled homophobia and the irony of scrutinizing genuine coming out experiences.News Source:articles/boots-miles-heizer-coming-religious-170540919.htmlBy Unknown for Yahoo! Today's guest is Kinley Clark — a proud queer creative who once taught in the South, where she faced more homophobia than anyone should have to. After leaving the classroom, she turned her energy toward her passion project, her podcast Lez Be Honest, a space where she shares authentic queer stories, mixes in humor, and builds community through representation. Now she's fully committed to creating the unapologetically queer content she wished she had growing up.In this episode, Kinley opens up about:✅ Her journey from teaching to podcasting✅ Navigating backlash and homophobia✅ Building community through storytelling and queer visibility
Brian celebrates his first successful afternoon on the apps in six weeks, applying a lesson from a recent episode and proving a point he's made in others. Judson shares recommendations for Anthony Amiewalan's novel Eddie & Alan, Michael Finkel's biography of Stéphane Breitwieser, The Art Thief, Kaveh Akbar's novel, Martyr!, and Nicholas Colia's film, Griffin in Summer. Both hosts are tickled by the Hookup of the Week, which describes a listener's decision to throw himself a birthday party to reclaim the sexual awakening that homophobia denied him as a teenager. Then, Brian and Judson are joined by partners in life and work, James Nguyen and AC Gottlieb, costume designers currently represented on stage by Chappell Roan in her Visions of Damsels and Other Dangerous Things tour and by Messy White Gays off-Broadway. James and AC chat with the hosts about the origin of their relationship and their evolution to openness, making and maintaining queer friendships–including navigating boundaries around sex with friends, entering into couples therapy, and their past dalliances with throuple-dom. The pair also discuss finding independence within a codependent relationship, how much we let dating apps inform our feelings about ourselves, the pursuit of their professional dreams, and how they came to design for Chappell Roan. Finally, James and AC help Brian and Judson respond to a Go Ask Your Dad question submitted by a listener who has concerns about hosting hookups at home. Judson and his husband celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, while Brian and his family discover a free gallery show featuring original works by Basquiat, Haring, Koons, Mapplethorpe, Sherman, Warhol, and more. The two hosts each go without physical release for longer than usual and expound on the joys of refraining. Brian then experiences a moment of undeniable divine intervention, and Judson starts his new job. They enjoy a pocket-sized Hookup of the Week about the joys of being Daddy to a pocket-sized partner. Brian spends three nights at the theater seeing Ragtime, Dylan Mulvaney's solo show, The Least Problematic Woman in the World, and, of course, Brandon Kyle Goodman's Heaux Church off-Broadway at Ars Nova—where he was joined by Judson and several Dads and Daddies listeners. Brian then makes a proposal to any theater producers listening to bring this year's queer theater standouts to more audiences. Writer, actor, host, and sexual/mental wellness advocate Brandon Kyle Goodman then sits down with Brian to discuss how writing on Netflix's hit animated series Big Mouth put them on their mission to deshame sex by talking about it. They also cover Brandon's journey with their husband from monogamy to polyamory, how dating other people has benefited their primary relationship, being an educator of oral pleasure, how to make kindness cool within the queer community, and all about the past, present, and future of Heaux Church. The episode concludes with Brandon helping address a Go Ask Your Dad question from a listener frustrated by how their partner prioritizes a dom hookup over their relationship, and finally, with some words of guidance from Brandon on coming together during these difficult times. Send us a textAuthor of Tangled Darkness Mary Desch brings us her genuinely joyful stories, special insights into the writing of her debut novel, and nuggets of wisdom in this conversation. She talks candidly with us about the loneliness she has felt at times, in contrast with the queer community she has been able to seek out at different scales throughout her life. We get a window into her writing process, how her career as a psychiatrist influences her character building, and what the feedback process of writing a novel looked like for her. Perhaps our favorite, she shares a special moment between her and her Gamma when she was six, and the message that has stuck with her since - "to thine own self, be true." Thank you Gamma, Shakespeare, and Mary. We treasure this conversation. You can visit Mary's website to purchase a copy of Tangled Darkness, read her blog, and get news about her upcoming work. Liz Rhea, MSW, LMSW is an associate licensed social worker and private practice owner in Atlanta, Georgia. Liz is a queer-identified therapist and specializes in supporting queer and trans folks, as well as folks navigating complex trauma, including religious trauma and purity culture recovery. Liz believes deeply in the utilization of reclaiming and healing within community in the therapeutic space. In addition to her work as therapist, Liz is a Founding Organizer for Let's Talk About It, a queer and trans-centered mental health training organization, and she creates content about being a chill therapist for both therapists and therapy-goers on instagram and tiktok! In this episode, we explore the intersection of religion, politics and therapy, and what it means to hold space for clients navigating all three. We discuss the nuances of religious trauma, especially as experienced by queer individuals. We also unpack ways to navigate the politics of religion in the therapy space, balancing personal and professional beliefs, why therapy is inherently political, and showing up online as a therapist.
