As a couple within the queer community, business owner's Bryn and Laura discuss all facets of life as they navigate just what it means to be a human on this awkward planet. Originally launching as a retail company at Pride back in 2017, I AM HUMAN has now blossomed into a movement of its own. With their focus on forming true and meaningful connections through the use of art and conversation, no topic is off limits for these ladies or their occasional special guest.     After taking a long hiatus to GET MARRIED, Bryn and Laura are back in action for the latest episode of the I AM HUMAN The Movement the podcast! These two love birds took a trip out west to the Oregon Coast trekking down to the California Redwoods with their closest friends and family experiencing one of the most magical weeks of their lives. Now they are back to check in after some much needed recharge time off the microphone to share some of their more eventful tales from the past few months. Both Bryn and Laura scored a new job just prior to the wedding while I AM HUMAN started shifting gears in a slightly different  direction than planned.     Trauma Triggered in the Pack

    We all have triggers but animals sometimes have a hard time communicating theirs to us. After experiencing traumatic encounters with an older dominant dog in the home, young sensitive Mildred of Bryn and Laura's pack of dogs quickly learned how to stand her ground. But with that slowly came a sense of distrust towards other dogs outside of her own pack while also developing what we found to be a hair fine trauma trigger behavior. On this week's episode, we are talking about Trauma triggers and more specifically in a pack setting in the home. One evening sweet Mildred found herself standing in a crate with her 95 lb brother Kodak who gave a slight warning over food as any animal would display in instinctual behavior. But one warning sign turned into a full on brawl as both Bryn and Laura attempted to separate the pair in horror. So when a dog fight happens, what goes on next between those dogs? Do they hold grudges? How does their first interaction back together work? Bryn speaks on some of the therapeutic effects that letting go can have on the mind body and soul for all creatures while Laura talks about some of the ways her own fears have interfered in the healing process between dogs. It's up to us to try and listen as best we can while helping our dogs stay in a growth mindset of working through traumas from their past.     Boss of the Sauce

    Back in 2018 Bryn and Laura hosted their very first "Hot Ones" styled competition titled Boss of the Sauce. One by one, contestants would eat 10 chicken wings smothered in a carefully selected and hand picked hot sauce that would challenge even the greatest of spice lords while attempting to answer questions against  the fire. On this week's episode these ladies are hosting Boss of the Sauce Round 2 with a Scoville level ranging from 14,000 all the way to a number larger than 2.5 million!  How do you even prepare yourself for attending a hot sauce party like this and what are some of the ways this year's contestants were able to beat the heat? Friends and family brave enough to turn up the heat also jumped on the podcast mic for a quick snippet interview of some of the action going on behind the scenes before and after the competition.     The Magic of Halloween

    Halloween is a magical time of the year for both children and adults alike.     Gone Camping

    Hurricane Ida

    Natural Disasters have this overwhelming ability to cause absolute destruction with little to no warning for those most susceptible. Hurricane Ida was no exception to this hitting land at a category 4 initially throat punching the great state of Louisiana on August 26th 2021. With extensive flooding and mass power outages, many families found their homes, belongings and overall lives in shambles after bracing the storm. Born a Cajun, a large portion of Laura's family resides down south who have all braved many hurricane seasons over the years including her older sister. After living through the most recent Hurricane, Christina Bolling joins the podcast this week to talk about her experience as well as the tragic reality so many others are having to face throughout her state even 4 weeks after the initial impact. Once a disaster initially hits, the news channels are quick to cover it. But with time, that attention fades and life is expected to go on even for families finding themselves in homes that are entirely unlivable anymore.     Crossing the Rainbow Bridge

    As a dedicated pet parent, it's never easy to process the passing of a beloved pup. On this week's episode Bryn and Laura share the story of their oldest dog August as they make the incredibly hard decision to have her cross the rainbow bridge. From a young pup, this sassy husky of a girl suffered from intense hip dysplasia and mild incontinence. But after finding useful medications like CBD and Carprofen, August's discomfort was eased significantly giving her the start of a healthy and balanced life. Bryn and Laura blended their packs shortly after dating but once August experienced the trauma of loosing her older brother Nanook to a neighbor dog, she started relating having the new dogs in the house to the sudden loss. In turn, she became aggressive towards the youngest of the bunch and so Bryn and Laura started separating their packs into 2 separate groups. Though it was incredibly difficult, this created a balance in the house giving August the final 3 peaceful years she deserved. It wasn't until August's health suddenly declined that the vet was able to diagnose her with intense kidney failure as well as cancer in her stomach and chest. That was the painful push that caused Bryn and Laura to make the incredibly hard decision to see August crossing the rainbow bridge.     Austin Was Weird

    Mental Health not only matters, but it matters for every human being across our society. That includes those who find themselves behind bars with some facing some of the lowest points of their life. So who's job is it to help these inmates? And who helps the human who handles this kind of job to stay in a good mental place themselves? Special guest Leanna joins the podcast as we take a closer look at the role mental health can play throughout our prison systems. Being a licensed independent social worker, Leanna finds herself waking up everyday to lead the mental crisis team for a local county jail.  No two days are the same nor does this woman ever get bored with her incredible work.  Especially when you find yourself communicating with humans across all walks of life who are in all sorts of disturbing and off the wall situations causing them to step into the jail system. Her job is to ensure the mental wellbeing for each and everyone of the inmates on a daily basis. Sometimes that means focusing on the mental health of  a child molester or maybe a mass murder. It takes a special kind of human to do the kind of work our dear friend does and so we would like to share her unique perspective of what mental health looks like behind bars.
