Intrepreneurship vs Entrepreneurship | Road to Revenue #79

The main difference between an Entrepreneur and an Intrapreneur is that an Intrapreneur is an employee, and an Entrepreneur is the founder who designs, launches, and manages a new business, which almost always starts out as a small business. Entrepreneurs risk everything when they start. Intrapreneurs normally have corporate career risks (Salary, Expenses, Benefits, Equity) that arise from launching their business, but they often have many more resources at their disposal. Being an intrapreneur provides you with the opportunity to see if entrepreneurship is the right fit for you without the risks of leaving your job, investing your own money, and starting from the ground up. You can test the waters with a safety net, while having access to more resources and a larger platform afforded by the company that you are with. Intrapreneurs used to be employees of a company who are assigned to work on a special idea or project. They were given the time and freedom to develop the project as an entrepreneur would. Now, intrapreneurs are individuals who are finding new ways to generate growth with the vast number of tools they have available, due to their company's platform. Learn more about your ad choices. Knowing who to trust is key for not only business success, but personal success, as well. What I use in order to make the determination on which people to believe (and invest in) is a two-step process that I call trust and vet. Distrusting everyone is no way to approach life and the same can be said about blindly trusting everyone, but I prefer to take a more positive perspective to start. Give people the benefit of doubt when you initially interact, rather than taking a skeptic approach to those you meet. When people used to ask me the difference between a trainer, coach, and a mentor, I used to joke that the difference was the prices and the certifications. Now, I define what it means to be an effective trainer, coach, and mentor differently. I define a (good) coach as someone who is able to bring the best out of you (and those around you). A trainer also wants to bring the best out of you, but they typically have a narrower area of focus and often work one-on-one. A mentor is someone who gives you the best of themselves, whether that is their knowledge, relationships, or even motivation. Manifesting What You Want | Road to Revenue #70

The Playbook

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 26, 2021 60:16

To manifest what we desire, we must align with and trust the universe, focusing our energy on clearing the connection to what inspires us. Then, we must work towards executing and manifesting our desires. This is where 80% of our energy needs to be spent. Most people are great starters or openers, spending the majority of their energy and focus on how to stimulate interest or share a vision. They do not understand that this is only 20% of the journey. To create and manifest our desires personally and professionally, we must be both “ordinary” + “extra”, or in other words, extraordinary. We can manifest what we desire faster and more accurately when we are willing to make greater investments in ourselves. Remember that the extra mile is never crowded, which is why I call it the “Empty Mile.” Three Steps: From Possibility to Reality Manifesting, or making thought into reality for the more pragmatic-minded, takes a several-pronged approach. First, we need to decide what we want; then, we assess our goals in terms of contributions we can make to others and to society in general. When we consciously think about what we want or want to achieve, it becomes a possibility. Then we clear the connection to what inspires us, and the possibility becomes a probability. We now take action to make the probability into reality, or your perspective. Taking action is an essential part of this equation, you can't manifest things simply by thinking hard enough about them, or even being inspired enough. You need to utilize the Law of GOYA, which John Assaraf taught me means Get Off Your Ass and take action. How to Forgive Yourself | Road to Revenue #69

The Playbook

Everyone falls and makes mistakes. It's inevitable. But pain, whether it's mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual, is just an indicator telling you that you have a lesson to learn. Lessons will keep coming until you learn them, so it's much easier to practice forgiving yourself and getting excited about learning these lessons. I started realizing that I truly had to forgive myself for all the mistakes that I had made in order to accelerate and grow. There have been numerous occasions in the past where I blamed other people for my failures or setbacks, not taking personal accountability for what I had attracted into my life. I noticed that holding on to that anger or resentment affects who I am, what I call my quantum energy, and this impairs my ability to pursue my potential.  A few years back, I had a neighbor who I'd bought a condo conversion from. The deal went sour, and we ended up blaming each other for that failure. We ended up in a lawsuit and he made up all these lies about me. I was so upset by the situation; it took me nine years to verbally forgive him. I actually had dreams about pulling out his fingernails and putting Tabasco on there, I couldn't let it go. Although I had financially recovered, the pain and resentment were still there because I let it fester.  I knew that the only way I would be able to raise my energy and overall peace would be to forgive him. Not because he deserved forgiveness, but because I deserved it. I closed my eyes and I pictured the guy that I hated, and I started thinking about all the good things about him. I thought about how he was a really good dad and gave back to the community. Instead of looking at the negative, I found the light in him. Slowly but surely, this mindset strategy shifted my energy and dissipated the negative feelings. There was actually a feeling of tenseness, of anxiety, of hatred, of attack every time I thought of the guy, and it finally dissipated to the point where I went up to him at a tailgate and thanked him for what had happened. He was freaked out because he hadn't processed the negative feelings for me. He flinched, and I just grabbed his hand and said, "I just need to thank you, because you helped me learn the greatest lesson of my life that has truly shifted my perspective, and I wanted to thank you." And I walked away. It wasn't that I was just thinking, saying, doing, believing that this gratitude was the right solution to this emotional problem, I actually felt grateful. There are three pillars of success that you can choose to focus on, rather than attaching your  happiness or fulfillment to a specific end goal. When you are able to effectively combine  passion, purpose, and profitability, that is when you are getting closer to your true potential  as a leader.  9 Ways to Focus on Your Passion  Many people tend to think that passions come naturally to us, but I believe that the key to  finding your passion is simply learning to love what you do. Passion is all about mindset, so  practice telling yourself that you “get to” do something, rather than thinking that you “have  to” do it. When we change how we look at the world, the things we look at change.  Examine Your Mindset - Be honest about your ability to find passion in what others would  find mundane or annoying. Can you infuse passion into what you are doing?  Take Inventory of Who and What You Love (and Why You love Them) - Take stock of your  current “passions”, as well as the characteristics or values that attract you to the.  Use Your Imagination - Practice taking something from possibility to a probability in your  mind, and then try to turn it into your perspective or reality.  Ask People Who Sit in the Situation You Want to be in What They're Passionate About - Find  out what the people you look up to care most about and consider whether it fits your values.  Get Better at What You are Currently Doing - Focus on improving at your current job, and  search for the joy of progress.   Trust and Vet - Take others at their word about how to make the most of a particular  passion, hobby, or pursuit, but do your own research as well.  Be More Interested Than Interesting - Exercise your curiosity frequently and be willing to try  new pursuits.  Practice, and Practice, and Practice Some More - Think about skills, knowledge, and desire  that you can apply to your greatest passions.  Never Quit Angling - Make use of the Law of Gravity, the Law of GOYA and the Law of  Attraction in order to find gratitude for where you are, take action and angle towards where  you want to be, and create coincidences with your attention and intention. Healing Your Relationships | Road to Revenue #67

We cannot find outside of ourselves what we cannot find inside of ourselves and that means that our most important relationship is actually with...yourself. You need to have a healthy relationship with yourself before you can establish a healthy connection with others, and that often takes quite a bit of self-reflection to accomplish. Six Steps to Healing After thorough self-examination, you should be prepared to take action and make a change. These six steps will aid you through your healing process and help you to overcome past trauma. 1. Develop Your Awareness - You can't heal trauma if you without recognizing the aforementioned signs that it is there. Once you've accomplished that, it is time to move forward from the harmful relationships in your past. 2. Be Understanding - Try to shift your perspective on the past and focus less on the pain, taking a more objective view of what happened. When you can apply logic and reason to a past relationship, it allows you to examine why your partner (or you) might have acted a certain way. 3. Have Compassion - Understand that we are all human and make mistakes, there is not a day that goes by without making a misstep. When we have compassion for ourselves and our past, that is when we are able to effectively connect with those around us. And having compassion for those who have done us wrong is important, as well. 4. Have Forgiveness - When you are understanding and compassionate, you are also empowered to forgive yourself. Shedding resentment for yourself and for others, even forgiving “the unforgivable”, is a freeing act. 5. Be Accountable and Learn - Practice asking yourself two questions about trauma in order to get past it: “What did I do to attract this to myself and what am I supposed to learn from this situation?” When you are able to find the light, love and lessons in a given event, you have taken control of it. 6. Transformation - Following those five steps gives you power over any trauma in your life, giving you the tools to overcome what's holding you back, so you can thrive in the present. Eight Ways to Stop Lying To YourselfOnce we have a better understanding of the signs that we're lying to ourselves, it's time to utilize strategies to stop telling these lies.1. Stop taking constructive criticism as a personal attack - Don't assume the negative when others are providing you opportunities to learn and grow. Take a more positive perspective and try to find the light, love, and lessons in the input of those around you.2. Stop trying to convince everyone that you're right - The ego and its needs are one of our greatest enemies, especially our need to be right. When you must always be correct or superior, you will invariably tell yourself lies to elevate your self esteem.3. Realize that you can enjoy the consistent and persistent pursuit of your potential - Attaching your emotions to a specific outcome is not the right mindset to have, instead focus on achieving progress each day and enjoying yourself in the process.4. Take chances - Be willing to take risks, rather than telling yourself, “It's never going to happen”. Nothing extraordinary happens when you are taking ordinary chances.5. Stop putting things off until tomorrow - One of the most common ways we lie to ourselves occurs when we decide that we will do something later that could easily be accomplished now. That's why I have a “Do It Now” Rule.6. Quit doubting yourself - Worrying means that you are voting for something that you don't want in your life. Starve your doubts and fears, don't give them any energy or attention.7. Consider others' points of view - Whenever our reality doesn't match what others perceive, it is important to take a step back and try to understand why. This reflection can stop us from repeating the same lies to ourselves over and over.8. Realize when you've taken on too much – Another common lie we tell ourselves is that we don't need help, when asking for assistance would be our best path forward. It's alright to admit that we are in over our head and need help.Tweet me @davidmeltzer your favorite takeaway from today's episode and come ask me questions live every Friday at 11:00 am PST / 2:00 pm EST. The definition of happiness is to enjoy the consistent every day, persistent without quit, the pursuit of your potential, your truth, your best self.Stop worrying about what other people think, what you don't have, what you don't want, or what's missing in your life. Simply what YOU want. That's the definition of happiness to me. The people who can enjoy the consistent pursuit of their own potential. In order to do that, we need to focus on the four values of gratitude, forgiveness, accountability, and effective communication, and act upon them daily. Most think it's their “why” that's going to make them happy. It's not. It's your “what” you need to know. You need to take inventory every day of WHAT you want. What you want personally, what you want to experience, what you want to give to people, and what you want to receive. Most people have no problem giving, but they have a huge problem receiving, and you can't give what you don't have. There are two currencies in the world. One is money, an object of energy that we put into the flow to get what we want, and the other is faith.Money is important in the pragmatic sense because if you're shopping for the right things like feeding people, building community centers, supporting your family, whatever it is, those are the right things. You can be very, very happy. Here's how the currency of faith works. It's like a GPS of happiness, because not only will faith reroute you when you're lost, but it will actually change your destination to somewhere better than you can even think of.So, you might have a goal or destination in mind, and then you make a mistake or you have a failure or a setback and by having faith in yourself, you will be rerouted to a better destination than you had plannedI know this about myself now. I am healthy. I am wealthy. I am happy. I just have to figure out what I am doing to interfere with my health, my wealth, and my happiness.I don't have to go get it, happiness is already a part of me, it's already one with me. It's already there. I just have to figure what I'm doing to interfere with it.Tweet me @davidmeltzer your favorite takeaway from today's episode and come ask me questions live every Friday at 11:00 am PST / 2:00 pm EST. 6 Steps to Deal With Negative ThoughtsWhen we experience negative thoughts, it is important to take a few minutes to contemplate the reasons behind them before you react. I advise following these six steps in order to avoid letting the triggers of your ego get in the way of your actions.1. Realize that the “lens” we view life through may be a bit distorted. In other words, our view of things may not be reality. While our minds have a way of convincing us of things that aren't necessarily accurate, we must be willing to question and challenge our own thoughts. These are all signs of distorted thinking. Instead of letting your mind wander, make a conscious effort to take these thoughts into captivity, analyze them, and replace them with healthy thoughts.2. Avoid judging yourself and others. Often, we unconsciously judge ourselves and others throughout the course of the day. By letting go of the judgements we are making and replacing them with positive thoughts or judgements, we are setting ourselves free of negative thinking.3. Don't complain. No one really wants to hear it, and it won't help you feel better. Take action to fix things that you are unhappy with instead of griping about them.4. Don't engage in gossip; it is toxic and divisive. Spreading gossip won't help you in the long run, even though you may feel better at the time. Gossiping will cause others to lose respect for you, and will cause problems within your family, social circles, workplace, or other places where you engage in the behavior.5. Find gratitude and satisfaction in your own life. When you show gratitude for the blessings and strengths you have, there is little room to be dissatisfied, envious, or resentful of others. It automatically shifts our thinking to the positive aspects of our lives, rather than focusing on what we're lacking. Consider creating a gratitude journal and adding to it every day in order to help you stay focused.6. Get professional help if you are having trouble controlling your negativity. If you are unable to curb your negative thinking or actions towards others, it can sabotage your relationships, your job, and your health. In this case, seek counseling to address the problems you are having.Tweet me @davidmeltzer your favorite takeaway from today's episode and come ask me questions live every Friday at 11:00 am PST / 2:00 pm EST. Contrary to popular belief, people that schedule or have many meetings during the day are not busier than other people. There are only two determining factors, whether you're busy or whether you're accessible, and how productive you are. You want to hone in on your accessibility and productivity when you look at your calendar. Leverage Your CalendarA calendar is a tool that can change your life. It’s there for a reason, but people often think of using it as a chore. One of the most compelling reasons to be a student of your calendar is that while the amount of time spent on scheduling grows with the amount of appointments that people have, the time needed to actually schedule meetings decreases. This means that the more meetings you schedule, the better you get at scheduling them.Understand that there is a vast difference between being busy, which is filling up those 24 hours you have in a day, compared to productivity, which is being efficient with those 24 hours.A busy person always has something going on, whether that is work or simply sleeping on the couch. They aren’t necessarily productive with the time they are busy, though, and they are often inaccessible.Understand Your ActivitiesA productive person knows how to maximize two things: the activities they get paid for and the activities they don’t get paid for. This delineation is important to make when maximizing your productivity and accessibility, so you can prioritize the activities you get paid for, as well as those activities which you enjoy the most.Tweet me @davidmeltzer your favorite takeaway from today's episode and come ask me questions live every Friday at 11:00 am PST / 2:00 pm EST. I was so excited to finally be on a stage in front of a live audience for the first time in over a year, so I needed to share this one with all of you.You are going to learn about the key to making decisions, your values.ELEMENT 1: PERSONAL VALUESWhen you are manifesting your vision, you need to analyze the effect on your personal values. Your personal values provide the best foundation for you to manifest things faster and more accurately. No matter what you want to attract in your life, utilize your own personal values to build the best foundation that will provide clarity, balance, and focus with confidence for you. ELEMENT 2: EXPERIENCE VALUESThis element includes all of your experiences, your situational values, and your education. In fact, our failures can be our greatest assets if we can learn something from them.ELEMENT 3: GIVING VALUESThis is the philanthropic component of our foundational values. What you give is what you receive. Ask yourself, how are you helping others? How are you outwardly directing positive energy? Give unconditionally in order to connect to source or goodness.ELEMENT 4: RECEIVING VALUESThis is the wealth element and often referred to as the least important value. Remember, you are a vessel and that things flow through you for others. Don’t let wealth drive you. Let your driving force be clarity, balance, focus, and confidence based on your personal experience and humanitarian values because the money will come based on what you want to manifest as long as you remain ready to receive. Allowing the Universe to Take Care of You

Faith is a true currency and an object of energy. Our faith is the aggregate of what we think, say, do, believe, and our subconscious mind. Faith is composed of our characteristics, our obsessions, our addictions, and the energy we put out. The problem I often see is that many are so unconscious about where they invest their faith, constantly create resistance by putting faith in the wrong things. We tend to think about what we don’t want, or even worse put faith in what other people want for us, and then when we get it, we end up resenting them instead.Faith Works in Two Ways:1. Putting faith in what you want2. Putting faith in what you don’t wantThe most common way that faith works is that we place our faith in what we want to manifest in our lives. Just like a credit card, the higher the limit of your faith, the more you can manifest and make into reality. Of course, simply having faith is never enough to get what you want. You need to take the right actions, with the right energy and the right mindset. The less-understood way that faith works comes when we put our faith into what others want for us or things we don’t want for ourselves. What happens when we put our faith in what others want for us is that often if we achieve it, we feel some sort of resentment. There is a massive difference between accomplishing a goal you set for yourself and a goal that others have set for you (or convinced you to set for yourself). Often times, we are limiting ourselves by putting faith in what others want for us. We are also limiting ourselves by putting faith in things that we don’t want in our life.My favorite example for this idea comes from law school. Whenever there was a topic that I didn’t want to be on the test, more often that not it was. What you resist persists, so avoid placing your faith in the negative, as this will only lead to you manifesting more negativity.Faith works both ways. If you place your faith in the idea that there is more than enough for everyone, you’re going manifest that abundance. When you put faith in what you don’t want, that is exactly what you will end up with.Tweet me @davidmeltzer your favorite takeaway from today's episode and come ask me questions live every Friday at 11:00 am PST / 2:00 pm EST. How to Remain Focused | #AskDavidMeltzer 34

More people are working from home than ever before, but the biggest question remains; How can we be productive outside of our typical work environment? When adapting to a new routine and environment, we need to focus on four key areas which will keep us productive, accessible, and efficient in order to maximize the way we use our time.1. Create a Habit Machine: Lower the BarA stable routine is always helpful, which is why having a habit machine is essential for those who are trying to maximize the efficiency with their time.Your habit machine, which is simply a system to help you build positive habits, will help you to begin adding more value to your daily routine. The first step is a little counterintuitive to some: lower the bar. Tell yourself, "I'm going to do this a minimum of one minute today, two minutes a day tomorrow." Set the bar low, but continually raise it to build momentum, which grows and accelerate when you are consistent and persistent.2. Save 4 Minutes a Day One of the practices that I've instituted into my habit machine is every day I set a goal or an objective to figure out how I can save four minutes a day. Four minutes a day is a magical number for me because I know it represents three full days of productivity each year. Most people are productive for 8 hours or less every day. If you can save 4 minutes every day that is 24 hours of time, which is 3 full days of productivity. I know any positive habit that I can create or any system or process that I can implement that saves me just four minutes a day has a compounding effect on my results.3. Be a Student of Your CalendarOne of the biggest changes in productivity came for me when I started studying my calendar. This isn’t taking a look at what you have on your schedule, there are three areas to focus on:Study the things you have planned for the day. For the tasks that you regularly plan, look to create efficiencies with your habit machine. For example, I have a 5/20 Rule where I try to schedule five-minute phone calls and keep my in-person meetings to twenty minutes, creating situations where the people that I interact with are ready for our interaction and focused. With a predominance of virtual meetings today, instituting something as minorly different as a 4/19 Rule could allow for more production, creating an extremely effective way to save 4 minutes a day, which results in an extra 3 days of productivity during the year.Study the white space of your calendar. Be critical of how you are scheduling your day. Look at how can you schedule more of those four-minute calls or nineteen-minute meetings. Consider how you can be more accessible to those who might need you. And don’t forget to ensure you schedule time for activities for your own enjoyment.Study your sleep. Sleep is not only is a restorative process, but it enhances your immune system, which is of the utmost importance. You need to build a consistent sleep routine that helps restore not only your physical being but your mental health, as well.4. Master PrioritizationAs you're studying your calendar, you it helps to understand what I call the “Do It Now” rule. There's an old saying, “Ask a busy person to do something for you and you'll be much more likely to get it done.” It goes beyond that, though. You have to evaluate your tasks by urgency and importance in order to determine priority. You do this by analyzing the actuality of the situation or event considering your own personal values, not the urgency perceived by others. If a task is Urgent and Important: Do It Now. If you put off doing something that you can do now, it will take you at least double the time to complete it. If something is Important but Not Urgent: Plan it, schedule it in your calendar. Give yourself a deadline! For something that is Urgent but Not Important: Delegate it. Trust your team to take care of it. Finally, if something is Not Urgent and Not Important, figure out a way to eliminate it. It’s obviously not worth your time.5. Eliminate DistractionsWhat you focus on, or what you pay attention to and give intention to, will create coincidences in your life, whether you want them or not.One example is I was once given the opportunity to drive around at a real track, in a real race car, with a real professional driver. They had cones set up for us to maneuver around and I kept hitting the cones. My driving instructor told me to stop looking at the cones, to which I replied, "Well, I don't want to hit the cones." He told me to look at the road in front of me, focus on where I wanted to go and not where I didn’t want to go. After that, I didn’t hit a single cone.If you're focused on the distractions you face, you're going to put attention and intention on it, eventually receiving the coincidence of the distraction. Pay attention to what you want for yourself and your business, as well as the tasks you need to accomplish in order to get those results. Stay focused and realize that you will hit the cones if all you're looking at is the cones.Tweet me @davidmeltzer your favorite takeaway from today's episode and come ask me questions live every Friday at 11:00 am PST / 2:00 pm EST. There are three main keys to ensure you are approaching a deal in the correct manner, you must pay attention to your mindset, heartset, and the conscious continuum.1. Mindset: The most important components for closing any deal are credibility, truth, and the energy we approach our potential business partner with.2. Heartset: Our ability to make an emotional attachment with the other party, connecting heart-to-heart, is an essential part of any deal. People tend to buy on emotion, and then back up their decision with logical reasons to take that action.3. Conscious Continuum: After connecting with someone emotionally, we need to be able toclearly articulate that the quantifiable value you offer exceeds what you are asking for in return. This is where logic and energy come into play. When we believe and carry the energy that weoffer much more than we are asking for, what I call the 100/20 Rule, we will close more deals.Tweet me @davidmeltzer your favorite takeaway from today's episode and come ask me questions live every Friday at 11:00 am PST / 2:00 pm EST. The world of never enough:This is the most negative world; it's the realm of belief where people think there is never enough for everyone and especially not enough for them. We all know people like this. They focus on the voids, shortages and obstacles that they perceive in their own lives and others', always neglecting to think about what they do have. What you resist will persist. By focusing on what they do not have, these people are guaranteed to attract more scarcity or lack into their lives. The world of just enough:The people who live with this belief are attempting to just get by, thinking that there is barely enough out there to suit their needs.Instead of enjoying the consistent, persistent pursuit of their potential, they settle for an almost consistent, almost persistent, almost enjoyable pursuit of their potential. This group is limited by their inability to connect with what inspires them. They limit their beliefs, their actions, their thoughts and their energy. They don't understand that believing wholeheartedly in the world of "more than enough" is an exponential accelerator of growth. The world of more than enough:The people who live in this world are those who see their past, present and future as being more than enough. They are grateful, and they are forgiving. They see opportunity around every corner, allowing them to say, do, think and experience that the universe is in their favor. In this world, everything unravels in your favor. Those who believe in this principle will pursue their dreams without focusing on a self-imposed timeline to achieve them. This belief allows them to persistently and consistently enjoy the pursuit of their potential.

I have five different rules for businesses looking to live in this world of more than enough:1 - Know your personal giving and receiving values. Evaluate those four things every day.2 - Learn to ask a series of questions to learn how you can provide value to every person in every situation.3 - Learn a series of questions with which you can ask for help—which is the most difficult and radically humble thing. I lost over $100 million by not asking for help, and my world changed when I learned how to ask the right questions.4 - Study with a lens of productivity, accessibility, and gratitude what you are doing every day. Study your sleep. Study your calendar and figure out what’s urgent, and what you can delegate to someone else.5 - Practice ending fear. When you feel like you’re on fire, stop, drop, and roll. Go No-Go Plan | Road to Revenue #59

The Playbook

Play Episode Listen Later May 10, 2021 59:31

There is one important step to take before you can even consider creating a Go No-Go Plan, and that is to determine whether your potential partner has an open mind. It takes more energy to reengineer the vision of one closed-minded person than it does to close a deal with 1,000 open-minded people, so identifying an open mind should be your first priority. When you have a shared vision with someone who has an open mind, the next step is to create a ”Go No-Go” Plan and put it into writing. A “Go No-Go” Plan is an outline for you to follow which highlights a clear path of actions to take for you and those you have shared a vision with. The purpose of a Go No-Go Plan is to:Help you to remember exactly what you and your partner agreed to in order to effectuate and manage expectations.Walk your client, investor, or partner through a step-by-step plan to get things done.Ensure that you know every aspect of your business and how to provide value to clients, as well as the clearest path to revenue that each new opportunity affords.Improve your ability to “connect the dots backwards”, meaning that your eventual success will be a result of consistent and persistent actions that you take.Your Go No-Go Plan should convey that your solution provides just as much value as your competitors (preferably more) and is aligned with the emotions of your business partners, while offering additional benefits in some important way. So, where do you start? In order to create abundance for everyone involved in a deal, begin by asking as many open- and closed-ended questions as you can. The open ended questions allow you to understand the other party’s perspective and their reasons and impacts for coming to an agreement, while the close-ended questions narrow down the other party’s initial responses. This helps to align the capabilities that you possess with the needs of others.Go PlanThe “Go Plan” is a statement of alignment. It clearly states the value proposition behind your shared vision, from both sides. This plan should list out what you expect from the other party in all aspects, meaning monetary expectations, supporting actions, communication plans, and all relevant expectations. The next step is for you to share your value proposition, the considerations (or benefits) that you will make in exchange for the value you will receive from the other party. I find guaranteeing value one of the most effective closing techniques when creating these “Go Plans.” If you can guarantee someone that your product or service will make them more money than it costs, meaning you serve as a profit center and not an expense, you will see a higher closing rate. One of my favorite ways to come to an agreement on these plans is rather simple, I let my potential business partners know that my memory is fallible and ask if we can put our shared vision down on paper, so I don’t forget anything.No-Go PlanThe “No Go Plan” is a statement that ensures we are prepared for adjustment, if we are unable to come to a concrete agreement with our potential partner, client, or vendor. The “No-Go Plan” maps out potential actions to take if the outcome is anything other than a “Yes”, or if there are objections while managing and developing this vision.List out your potential steps of action for if they say “no”, whether those involve a plan for re-negotiation, re-engineering the shared vision, or walking away from the agreement all together. If you walk away, one of the most effective ways to increase your chances at future success with this individual comes from sharing a plan to re-evaluate this discussion. In fact, I have what I call the “Three No Rule” that I use when having difficulty connecting with a potential client. If a person who I’ve already shared a vision with misses a scheduled call or meeting, I give them three chances, no matter the reasoning behind it. After three “misses”, I call them and explain to them that I have to dedicate my time and resources to those clients I can connect with more easily, but I’m available to work with them down the line if things change. Timing is one of the most common objections that you will receive, and this type of statement is a great way to deal with that objection. Using a phrase like the one below can help you not only demonstrate alignment with the other party’s needs, but it keeps the door open for a future relationship, especially if circumstances change:“From what you’re telling me, it sounds like this might not be the right time for us to come to an agreement. Would it be alright if I reached back out next quarter to re-evaluate this partnership?”Tweet me @davidmeltzer your favorite takeaway from today's episode and come ask me questions live every Friday at 11:00 am PST / 2:00 pm EST. A leader’s mindset is derived from his or her thought processes, whether that comes from his or her conscious, subconscious, or unconscious mind. In order to get your mind right, one must evaluate the value that their thoughts, both new and repetitive, bring to their conscious and subconscious mind. Are your thoughts providing you the necessary confidence or value? Or are you wasting time and energy on those thoughts needlessly? If the new or repetitive thoughts are not valuable, then cut them! There are all sorts of pressures that we experience (or create for ourselves) when we are making a tough call, but with the right mindset, we can avoid common pitfalls, such as negative self- talk or decision fatigue.THE CONSCIOUS, SUBCONSCIOUS, & UNCONSCIOUS:Our conscious mind evaluates what people think, what people say, and what people do. It takes time to get the conscious alignment necessary to make a decision. The subconscious mind deals with the countless things that we believe. Our unconscious competencies are tasks, abilities, or decisions you are able to execute successfully without thinking. (i.e. breathing or public speaking).Lastly, having a positive mindset is a major asset at work and at home. In order to attain this mindset, we must build and train our minds with a simple philosophy of, “cancel, clear and connect.” When you think of conscious thoughts that are negative, “cancel” them. When you recognize the subconscious thoughts that are attracting the conscious thoughts, “clear” our whole mind. When things do not leave us and they sit within our unconscious, we must utilize a mechanism to “connect” to what inspires us.Tweet me @davidmeltzer your favorite takeaway from today's episode and come ask me questions live every Friday at 11:00 am PST / 2:00 pm EST.
