Zach welcomes Desirae Ysasi for her first appearance as a guest co-host—and what unfolds is a warm, insightful, and occasionally awkward conversation about parenting, marriage, culture, and therapist life. From Desirae's daughter offering podcast advice (“don't be weird”) to Zach's reflections on parenting adult children, the two therapists pull back the curtain on their real lives. They explore how therapists experience their own relationships, what it means to “cherish” your partner, and why Desirae believes couples can still struggle with conflict even when they have all the tools. Their honesty and laughter make space for listeners to reflect on their own relationships—not from a place of performance, but of grace, learning, and genuine care. This episode is the first of a three-part series with Desirae, and it sets the tone beautifully: smart, soulful, and full of moments that might just help you feel softer toward yourself or your partner. Key Takeaways You Can Know the Tools and Still StruggleDesirae reveals that even as a couples therapist, conflict in her marriage doesn't always look pretty—but what makes the difference is how she and her husband repair. Cherishing as a Daily PracticeCherishing isn't about grand romantic gestures. It's about making sure your partner has tangible access to your love and affection—in everyday moments, through small actions. Conflict Isn't the Problem—Disconnection IsDesirae shares that the hardest part of conflict is not being able to be generous. What matters is not just the argument, but whether you can still be open, kind, and connected during hard moments. Therapists are People, TooThe episode normalizes that even people trained to guide others through relationships have messy, human partnerships of their own—and that's part of what makes the work so honest. What if bragging actually helped grow your private practice instead of turning people off? I recently shared in my newsletter how I generated over $100,000 in sales in just six weeks, and you know what? I felt uncomfortable sharing that - which was my sign I needed to brag MORE. As therapists, we're taught to downplay our success because it's "not polite," but did you know that constantly focusing on what's not working actually leads straight to burnout? In today's episode, I break down why celebrating wins isn't just okay - it's essential for your private practice longevity. I'll walk you through three different types of brags, show you exactly how to start celebrating yourself, and explain why this practice creates confidence and resilience. Plus, I share specific places where you can safely practice bragging with supportive communities.Ready to fill your cup while running your private practice? This simple habit might be the preventative medicine you need. I've got a quick challenge at the end that you can complete in minutes to start experiencing the benefits immediately.Topics covered in this episode:How women are specifically conditioned to downplay accomplishmentsThe connection between bragging and preventing burnout in your private practiceThe surprising reason why bragging is actually good for the people around you tooThe science behind our negativity bias and why we need to intentionally work against itThree different types of brags and safe places to share your bragsResources from this episode:Healing Money Facebook groupLiberated Business: www.thebadtherapist.coach/liberatedbusinessConnect with Felicia:Get my freebie & join the email list: The Magic SheetsInstagram: @the_bad_therapistWebsite: www.thebadtherapist.coachRelated episodes:Quarter Two Planning: How to Stay Accountable & Consistent in Your Business Goals [Ep 110]Quarter Two Planning: How to Set Strategic Goals for Your Private Practice [Ep 109]Quarter Two Planning Series: How to Assess Your First Quarter & Create a Clear Roadmap for Your Private Practice [Ep 108]Quote:"Bragging is like preventative medicine—it fills your cup and keeps you going." - Felicia

WARNING: This episode contains opinions of a law-nerd nature. Discretion is advised.Have you ever encountered the parenthetical “(cleaned up)” at the end of a case citation? By now over 5,000 judicial opinions in nearly ever jurisdiction have used it, including the U.S. Supreme Court. So it's time you got acquainted with it.The credit (or blame) for introducing this new device goes to Jack Metzler. Jack shares how he came up with the innovation over several long moments of deliberation on Twitter (specifically: about 90 seconds). But unlike most tweets, Jack's idea flourished into a law review article that now stands as the 2nd most-often cited article in judicial opinions of all time (and only 40 citations behind Justice Louis Brandeis's 1st place paper).Jack subjects himself to the following questioning:❔What does (cleaned up) even mean? Answer: It means you can start a quote with a capital letter without using those stupid ugly square brackets, without having to explain it. And other stuff like that.❔Ok, so judges are using it. But will judges trust lawyers to use it faithfully? Answer: Judges already don't trust lawyers, so I don't even understand your question.❔I think the judges want to see the quote exactly as it appeared. Answer: That's not even a question. And no one is forcing you to use (cleaned up).Jack Metzler's biography, LinkedIn profile, and Twitter feed.Appellate Specialist Jeff Lewis' biography, LinkedIn profile, and Twitter feed.Appellate Specialist Tim Kowal's biography, LinkedIn profile, Twitter feed, and YouTube page.Sign up for Not To Be Published, Tim Kowal's weekly legal update, or view his blog of recent cases. The California Appellate Law Podcast thanks Casetext for sponsoring the podcast. According to information that Metzler gave the ABA Journal in March 2021, (cleaned up) has appeared in 5000 judicial opinions.Read the full article at the tvalaw.com blog here.
I'm back with another episode and this one felt so scary to record that I almost didn't. Today I'm sharing the most authentic and unedited version of me you've ever heard before. I talk so much about the masculine approach to business building but there's so much more to the success I've had.Equally as important to the strategy is the inner work and this is something I've made a practice but earlier this year I embarked upon my first Ayahuasca ceremony and it changed me forever. It also changed my business and you know I don't like gatekeeping so I'm sharing everything about this plant medicine experience with you.In today's episode:What ayahuasca is and how it changes your consciousnessWhat I experienced in ceremony over 3 days with this plant medicineWhat each ceremony taught me that might help you tooThe ways that I'm changed forever and how I'll integrate this into my life and businessIf you've ever been called to Ayahuasca then you'll want to listen to this episode today. I highly encourage you to listen today with an open mind and heart and remember that we are all on our own unique journey. I'm not here to influence you to try plant medicines if you are not already being called to it but I hope this episode will shine some light on the different tools available to us.

The ProblemYour son or daughter wants a new e-bike or something rather expensive. As a parent, you don't want to spoil your kids with costly gifts they may or may not use.But kids persist and will keep begging, persuading you to buy them that gift.So you make a deal with your kid that if they get straight A's, you will buy them an e-bike.From the kid's perspective - you get straight A's, and your parents still don't buy you that e-bike. They say the e-bike is too dangerous, which they may have a point, but they did break their word. And the parents will say that we didn't have a formal contract and we're just joking or saying it so you would concentrate on your grades. The parents and kids could have made a contract, but who will enforce that? The parents can just disregard the agreement. The SolutionThat is where the smart contract could solve this problem.A smart contract is code that runs on the blockchain - a decentralized, lightweight database where entries into that database can't be edited or deleted.A developer or a no-code program can be used to create a smart contract. So how would this work? Imagine there is a no-code website that creates smart contracts designed to look up your kid's grades at school You would go onto this smart contract website Create a smart contract with the following details Checks to see if your kid got straight A's from the school's report card website The school report card website can provide an API that you can use in the smart contract Or, if there is no API, you can enter the username/password for the report card website, and the smart contract will scrape the webpage for your kid's grades If the kid did get straight A's, then trigger a purchase of the e-bike using funds from the parent's bank account or credit cardThe bank account or credit card number will be encrypted in the smart contract so no other party can steal itCryptocurrencies can be used tooThe smart contract will have the address and amount of the cryptocurrencies needed to purchase the e-bike. The smart contract would run the day after the school's report card is published. Running the smart contract: The day after the school's report card is published, the smart contract will run It will use the API or username/password to login into the school's report card website Check your kid's grades If your kid got straight A's, it would use the credit card number to purchase the e-bike from the e-bike's website. The e-bike gets delivered to your door for your kid to use I see smart contracts having a lot of value for little things like motivating your kids to get good grades.
Want to work less and make more? With a forty-hour workweek, it seems hard to imagine a reality where you can do less but still get the same results. How can you fit an entire week's worth of work into only one day's working hours? Jason Wojo and Peter Kolat, hosts of The Lifeonaire Show, argue that it's easier than you think to cut out much of your workday, enjoy your life more, and reach financial freedom faster. Both Jason and Peter grew up in troubling financial environments—raised in households where fighting about money was the norm. As Jason and Peter grew up, took on careers, got married, and had families, they saw themselves falling into the same traps as their parents—taking on debt, overspending, and working far more than they had liked. After hitting “rock bottom”, they decided to take a step in the right direction and change their financial future. With the help of a financially-free “vision”, Jason and Peter now live lives almost unrecognizable to their pasts. They now help others find their passions, chase their dreams, and achieve financial freedom with ease. So, if you're tired of the grind, the stress, and the financial anxiety, you may want to consider becoming a “Lifeonaire” like Jason and Peter.Links from the ShowWhy healthy finances are key to keeping a family (and marriage) in-tact Hitting “rock bottom” and climbing out of credit card and consumer debt Building a rental property portfolio debt-free and how you can do it tooThe four core tenants of money philosophy and why everything starts with your “vision”The 80/20 Rule and why working less can help you make more moneyCalculating the cost of financial freedom and why it's probably less than you thinkAnd So Much More!Links from the ShowBiggerPockets Money Facebook GroupBiggerPockets ForumsFinance Review Guest OnboardingMindy's TwitterScott's InstagramApply to Be a Guest on The Money ShowPodcast Talent Search!Subscribe to The “On The Market” YouTube ChannelListen to The “On The Market” Podcast: Spotify, Apple Podcasts, BiggerPocketsHow to Get Financial Freedom So You Can Do What You're Meant to DoLifeonaire WebsiteSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Does your baby show signs of discomfort after feeding? In this episode, Dr. Carole Keim MD goes over practices to best help your baby through peeing/pooping, gas, colic, and other tummy troubles. If your baby has colic, there are ways to help digestion and alleviate discomfort. Vomiting in infants can be a bad sign; she explains how best to keep your little one hydrated with no treatment for vomiting or diarrhea.Dr. Carole Kiem MD details different conditions your baby may experience within their first year, such as diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, and reflux. Watch out for blood in the diaper; she goes over the potential causes, from stool to urine or even a “false period” in baby girls. Check out this episode for more information about tummy troubles. We will cover: PeePoopPotty training an infantBurpingGasColic - dx and txSpit ups / GERDVomiting - gastroenteritis, pyloric stenosis, no txDiarrhea - tx, when to be concerned, signs of dehydrationConstipationBlood in the diaperPee (0:21)Allow up to 24h for the first void.A few pees for the first few days; by day 3-5, mom's milk surges, and baby voids with each feedVolume is difficult to discern, and the color is sometimes pale - diapers with urine stripes are helpful.Rust-colored urine in the first 2-3 days (uric acid crystals)If a baby less than six mos voids less than 6x per 24h or goes more than four h between voids, they may be dehydrated (nighttime doesn't count!). Babies >6 mos should void at least once per 6h.Poop (2:48)Up to 48h for first stoolMeconium (and what it means if passed in utero)Transitional stoolsYellow seedy stoolsOver the first 4-6 months becomes brown and toothpaste-consistencyFormula-fed babies may have brown, yellow, or green stool; tends to be smellierHydrolyzed formula -> gray stoolsRule of 7'sOnce they eat food, their poop becomes like adult poopPotty training from birth / Elimination communication / Diaper-free method (6:27)Involves reading baby's cues and giving cues when it's time to pottyCan start as early as birth; I recommend around 1-2mos of age after the discoordinate stooling phase.Decide on a phrase and/or hand signal to useBring your baby to the potty (over the sink, potty chair, or toilet adapter)Make a sound to indicate it's time to go (“psss” or grunt)Easy catches: babies who go during diaper changes, right after waking up, after eating, when you see them poopingIt takes several months; ok to wait until later. Toddlers: takes about 6 mos for daytime and another 6-12mos for nighttime.I love it because there are fewer diapers, less discomfort for the baby, less diaper rash, and it is easier than toddlerhood.Burping (12:28)How toWhen to (breastfed, formula-fed)Why? Decreases gas, colic, spit-upsThey can stop when they burp on their own (around 4-6 mos)Gas (14:20)Normal to fart a lot, loudly, and have smelly gasBreastfed babies may get more gas when mom eats cruciferous vegetables, beans, garlic, and caffeineCheck with your doctor before you start eliminating foodsSimethicone - how it works, when to give it, how oftenColic (16:21)Rule of 3s: 3h per day, 3 days per week, for 3 weeksAlmost all babies get some colic symptoms at some point.Tummy TimeBicycle legsBelly massage - clockwiseBack rubs - counterclockwiseMedicines: simethicone, probiotics, gripe water; can consider chamomile, licorice, or mint tea - dilute, 1/2oz per dayAlternative health: chiropractic, acupuncture, ayurveda - I can't formally recommend them, but they are sometimes helpful; choose your practitioner carefully. What doesn't work - is the sensitive tummy formula. No formula will treat colic.Spit ups / GERD (20:47)Reflux = stomach contents go up into the esophagus.GERD = reflux is so bad that the baby has poor weight gain or loses weight, chokes, arches in pain, or has other problemsLESSpit-ups are not forceful.Tx: decrease volume and increase the frequency of feeds (BF vs. formula), burp baby well, anti-reflux formula/breast milk thickeners, add 1 tsp rice cereal to 2oz formula/breastmilk (this is the ONLY time we put rice cereal in a bottle), use gravity, medications such as ranitidine make the stomach produce less acid but don't decrease the volumeCall your doctor if the baby spits up more than half of their food, if they look like they are in pain with spitting up, if they appear to choke, or if it starts to become more frequent and the baby seems hungry after spitting up.Check out healthychildren.org for more info.Vomiting (28:09)Forceful: Involves abdominal muscles and a retching movementProjectile vomiting goes about 2-3 feet, but spit-ups can tooThe baby is upset afterwardAlways a red flagNo treatment other than to keep hydratedDiarrhea (29:48)Hard to tell in newborns/infants because their poop is so soft/liquidIf you're worried, call your doctorStool that is so watery it soaks into the diaperA marked increase over what your baby normally doesMarked increase or “blowout” poops more than twice in a rowA foul odor that was not there before, sometimes with a change of colorFever/blood - go to ER if 6mosNo treatment other than to keep hydratedSigns of dehydration: decreased urine output, fussy/lethargic, dry lips/tongueConstipation (34:11)Infants: the first year of life; does not apply to children >1yr. We will do that episode in a few months.1 mo: discoordinate stoolingAbout 3% of infants get true constipation: hard stools like pellets, pain with BM, and rectal bleeding.Tx: prune juice 0.5-1oz (15-30ml), once or twice per day; water if they are taking solids/purees; consider eliminating dairyBlood in the diaper (39:01)when it's normal: pseudomensesAbnormal: any other time, call your doctor immediately! Urine = kidney problem, stool = infection or allergy. UA/ HemoccultFoods that mimic blood: watermelon, beets, tomatoesI hope this helps you guys know what's within normal range and when to be concerned. Remember: It is ALWAYS ok to call your doctor's office with questions if you're worried. Babies are really different than adults, so it can be hard for new parents to know whether something is serious or not. I wrote the Baby Manual for that reason, and I know parents refer back to it often through the first year of life to check whether they need to be concerned. Growing up in Flagstaff, Arizona, Paul Fabritiz followed the example of his older volleyball-playing sister to increase his vertical jump. He also worked on his shooting and skills and became a college-level player. But every season, he seemed to suffer a major injury to his hands, wrists, or feet, and after playing at Mesa Community College and Northern Arizona University, Paul decided to focus his efforts on coaching. This led to him earning a degree in exercise and wellness. During his final year at Arizona State University, Paul hustled to build his nascent coaching business using an evidence-based approach. Doubling down after graduation, he began training ASU players and others who wanted to not only increase their vertical leap, but also become more durable on the court. When Rob Pelinka reached out about Paul training the NBA players and college-to-pros talents he represented at the time, Paul moved to Southern California and continued to grow PJF Performance into one of the most respected basketball training companies on the planet. In this episode, Paul shares: An easy way to manage your workloads to reduce injury risk and overtraining A simplified way to measure your own acute to chronic workload ratio Why he cringes when he sees basketball players using Olympic lifts in their training Why he teaches his bounciest athletes not only how to land, but how to fall properly tooThe secret training tip that the world's best professional DUNKERS all commonly useThe 3 strategies he used to boost his own vertical jump from 32”-47”Why every drill and exercise you do with basketball players should NOT be basketball-specific What a trial session with James Harden taught him about the power of authenticityHow Rob Pelinka giving him a chance to work with NBA players changed his coaching trajectoryTo learn more about Paul's coaching, visit his website and follow him on Instagram.

Designs for action shall be put into practice in the knowledge and positive acceptance that feedback may result in their amendment.Decisions, decisions: as we saw in the last episode, 150 per week per ministry, each spouting its share of paperwork like a photocopier out of control, swamping its surroundings with verbiage, utterly lacking in practical intent, and for anyone trying to see if the system works in any meaningful way - bewildering in its senselessness. But who are the people who make these decisions? And what do they know, really? And what are they expecting to come of them? Contemplating these questions quickly draws one to the conclusion that we are watching a pantomime, a Punch and Judy show, that exists to conceal the pointless governmental machine that is out of control. This principle does two things: it reframes these empty "decisions" in their ideal and realistic intent - to bring about beneficial change, as designs for action. And in being realistic, it is realistic about how plans - designs - need to be course-corrected on contact with reality: they need to evolve.Talking points:First and second order cybernetics: Dashboards, and people within the control systemRunning the country: the pantomime and the possibilitiesWe would fail if we were politicians tooThe risks of ineptitude: London as an instrument of Russian powerMarket liberalisation as a decision - out of sight, out of mindFinancial crisis - absence of feedback!Design authority in context: how to prevent ships sinking? The spirit of improvement and learning, the operating principlesEvery design for action is an experimentFailure inquiries - here to learn, not to blame.Root causes and purpose: Why is government here? The promise of systems thinking: living in paradise, sufficiencyThe four main benefits of feedbackThe fundamental importance of good feedbackSystems sensibilityFactfulness: opinions based on strong supporting facts7 psychological sins of investingPsychological defensivenessLabour and smoking: a day out Presumption and personal experienceLinks:Dr. Fiona Hill on The Rachman Review:https://play.acast.com/s/therachmanreview/comingtotermswithputinsrussiaStein Ringen (youtube/RSA):https://youtu.be/AHcfNy1_zqAThe Roslings on Factfulness (TED talk)https://youtu.be/Sm5xF-UYgdgSteven Pinker on the world getting better (TED talk)https://youtu.be/yCm9Ng0bbEQFalsifiability - Karl Popper (wikipedia)https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Falsifiability Hosted on Acast. Looking for off-market deals involves finding the right data to analyze. This involves knowing what data to seek in the first place. Real estate investors start off not knowing everything, and that’s okay. They only surrounded themselves with the right team and agreed on a course of action they would take together. This is one of the main principles of this business that has been proven to work every time: partnering with people with the same goals, mission, and aspirations as you. In a new essay for Harper's, filmmaker Martin Scorsese criticizes the current state of the movie business and all these new fangled streaming platforms and their algorithms. Unsure what to put in a case study? The key is remembering to think like a prospect. What do they want to see?1. That you've helped people like them2. That you actually do things they want done3. That you get results they are looking for4. That you can get results for them specifically, tooThe first step before you begin is knowing what kind of clients you want to attract. There's no point in doing a case study on clients you have no desire to replicate.Like attracts like.Once you have a clear vision of the clients you want to attract, it's time to write. Here's what I normally recommend:1. The client's situation before they hired you - where they started (which should resemble your prospect's situation) 2. The things you actually did - clients want to see you can do the tactical things they already want. Remember, clients self-prescribe solutions. They come looking for tactics. This list shows you can do all of what they want and much more. Include photos/screenshots/examples if you can.3. The results you actually got (and why they matter) - Clients have a desired future state in mind. Maybe they need more revenue or maybe they been better performance tracking for their investors or key stakeholders. Combine the results you got, whether financial, analytical, subjective, or otherwise with the reason they mattered. 4. A client testimonial - this is the bow on the package that ties it all together. Their words describing the nuance and specific things they liked about working with you. Try to make it outcome focused but allow room for benefit-driven and emotional language. On the topic of testimonials...Sean D'Souza of Psychotactics has a list of questions you could ask (below). But don't feel you need to copy them verbatim. The key is uncovering the before, during, and after in their own language, and then seeing how they describe you and the benefits of working with you. Here's what Sean recommends you ask (with his explanation below each):1) What was the obstacle in your mind/hesitation before buying this product/service?We ask this question because the customer always has a perception, hesitation an obstacle. No matter how ready the customer is to buy your product/service, there's always a hitch. The hitch could be money, or time, or availability, or relevance—or a whole bunch of issues. And when you ask this question, it brings out those issues. And it does something more. It gives you an insight into issues you may not have considered, because the client is now reaching into their memory to see what could have been the deal-breaker. And there's always an obstacle; always something you may not have considered. So when the customer brings up this obstacle, it presents an angle that's unique, personal and dramatic.2) What did you find as a result of buying this product/service?This question is important, because it defuses that obstacle. When a client answers this question, they are clear about why the purchase was worth it, despite the obvious obstacles.3) What specific feature did you like most about this product/service?Now you're digging deeper. If you ask the customer to focus on the entire product/service, the answer gets waffly. It's therefore important to focus on one feature/benefit that the customer liked most about the product/service. This brings out that one feature in explicit richness and detail.4) What would be three other benefits about this product/service?Having already got one big feature, you can now go a little wide, and see what else the customer found useful. You can substitute the word ‘three' with ‘two' or simply remove the number. The number allows the customer to focus on ‘two' or ‘three' things, and then give you those ‘two' or ‘three' things that were useful.5) Would you recommend this product/service? If so, whyYou may not think this is an important question, but psychologically it's very important. When a customer recommends something, there's more than your product/service at stake. The customer's integrity is at stake too. So unless the customer feels strongly about the product/service, they won't be so keen to recommend it. And when they do recommend it, they're saying to prospective buyers: “Hey, I recommend it, and here are the reasons!”6) Is there anything you'd like to add?By this point, the customer has said all he/she has to say. But there's never any harm in asking this question. The questions before this question kinda ‘warm up' the customer, and sometimes you get the most amazing parting statements, that you simply can't imagine. And this detailed construction of testimonials brings us to a very interesting observation.I definitely recommend reading this full article for more info, and listening to his podcast for more great marketing tips: https://www.psychotactics.com/six-questions-testimonials/ That's all for now! Did this help? Let me know what you do differently if you have other ideas.Until next timeYours,—k

Join us this week for a walk through the collected creativity of the Faithless Family, and be sure to check out the decklists and writeups in the notes below. Oh, and we also took our Narset Undoing to a 5-0 last week in Pioneer. The deck looked solid across five full leagues; we'll get you up to speed on all the details! Dimir Trap Control by Soren W. (Modern) Soren writes:My deck is an evolution of a deck from your Vantress Gargoyle Episode that I just can’t seem to put down. It is the Trap control deck that you folks mentioned as potentially “Secretly Excellent.” I’ve been working on it now for quite sometime and I’ve changed the deck pretty heavily as I’ve learned it and addressed changes in the metagame. At this point I’ve played 175 games online with this and have gone 101-74 good for a 57.7% mwp. Enough to keep me from bleeding tickets, but maybe not amazing? I’m really happy with 65 of 75 cards but still feel like there is room for innovation. Game 1 the deck attempts to play multiple Ancestral Recalls in the form of Visions of Beyond that are enabled by Thoughtscours and Archive Traps. It's not a traditional Mill build that has a critical mass of library removal as fast as possible, but rather a control deck that aims to drag the game out to the point where you are drowning in card advantage and your opponents are drowning in your Drown in the Lochs. You get to almost completely blank their removal game one and in game two you pull a switcheroo, bringing in Things and Kalitis. The biggest change in the meta, was the introduction of the escape-elders, Kroxa and Uro. When these first became popular in the MTGO meta, I thought this deck was finished, I could not beat one G1 since I essentially always draw them for my opponent, and they turn off my Ancestral Recalls, IttS, and DitLs. I lost sooo many matches to those, until I discovered Cling to Dust. This has been a surprisingly amazing card, that has blanked Snapcasters and E-Wits, exiled shrunk Goyfs, turned off Delirium, all while cantripping! That doesn’t even cover the incidental lifegain and rebuying ability from the escape side. I’ve become a true believer in this card and wouldn’t be playing the deck without it. Good match-ups include: Control*, Hard Combo (Ad Nauseam, Goryos, Neo-Brand, Storm, Titanshift), Niv :) , Non-“Go-wide” Aggro (Burn, Infect, Red Prowess), Tron, Urza*. Average Match-Ups include: Death’s Shadow w/o Stubborn Denial, Druid Combo, E-Tron, Jund, UG Titan Ramp. Poor Match-ups include: CrabVine, “Go-Wide” Aggro (Elves, Goblins, Humans, Spirits, Zoo), Death’s Shadow with Stubbs, Mill, RG Klothys Moon. * How strong the deck feels, really depends on their build. The more Uros there are, generally the less good I feel even with C2D. 2. AyUro’s Influence by Drej (Modern)Note: needs to be updated post-Once Upon a Time Drej writes:I've been playing pioneer gitrog and have had a blast playing it. One card I've wished I had access to is obviously Life from the Loam. As I was thinking about building a deck around the two, I stumbled upon Ayula's Influence aka Bear Vortex. So simple ideas: 1) ramp with lands 2) play gitrog 3) play Ayula's .... ????) Bear-pocalypse. So the play pattern is - play gitrog, discard land to Ayula's, draw a card off trigger, make lots of bears. Lots of bears. Dredging Liam and hitting lands also gives you a second draw. Lots of cute interactions.Uro is the reason this deck is functional. Full stop. The black green version, I recently piloted and bombed with, can attest to this. So many things that he does, changes burn damage, puts lands on the board, churns through the deck. The game plan with uro isn't to escape him ASAP. It's more growth spiral with late game power. The feeling of getting into the late game top deck mode and having the option to play a 6/6 threat that needs specific removal is amazing. Also blue let's you get mystical dispute... so that's gotta stay. My thoughts on the deck - it's awesome. The nut draw of T1 Sakura, T2 influence, T3 gitrog, opponents end step make 10 bears is something that everyone needs to experience. The fundamental fear I have is that it's a "fairish" graveyard deck. It's not dredge, it's not hogaak, it won't blow people out of the water. Which is why I made it a land based deck - every card does something, no bad top decks (ish). I recently rediscovered blast zone and discovered the new Labyrinth card. The dream of removing a battle raged death shadow from combat keeps me up at night. Lastly- big shout out to Witch's Cottage - awesome card with Druid of the Willy Wonka Forest. Wrenn vs Loam - you can make more than one bear with loam. Also it fills up your graveyard for uro, and crime and more loams and more of the functional lands. Also 4 color would be tougher, Uro is a must stay 3. Temur Urzo by Zach Ryl aka ManaCymbal (Modern) Zach writes:Here's mine from a few months back. If I were to update it for now I'd try to get some trackers into the main, and maybe switch out the rebukes for Archmage's Charms? but it really depends on how I feel about the meta at the moment. The core concept was marrying my favorite card in modern, from then until now, Wrenn and Six, with the UG fair Urza midrange deck, another joy of mine. The crypts in the main and the EE are definintely debatable, and I'd be interested to know if you guys have any thoughts about how big each package should be. I'm not REALLY comfortable with wrenn and Six being paired with Less than 23 lands, but I wonder if I can go with closer to the 4c snow mana base with a pile of field of ruins, and a couple of cycle lands, instead of playing sanctuary, or if I want to do that too.Uro is also an interesting thing to try to make work, I think 2 might be the right number. The artifact package's size is also an important design axis. 4 Emry really encourages a high density of cheap artifacts to get her on the board. Also a Saheeli has been nuts at some times. 4. Soulrider by Collin aka blak fishy (Modern) Collin writes:If you want to curve Goose into Soulherder into Avalanche Riders and kill 2 of your opponent's lands on turn 3 then this is the modern deck for you! With no conceivable bad matchups except Legacy Manaless Dredge you will be sure to clean up your modern leagues in no time. Warning, this deck may only be safe to play online: Tron players have been rumored to call a judge and ask if Riders is even legal then berate the opponent with such insults as "play a real deck." 5. Mono-White Devotion by Lanny Huang (Modern) Lanny writes:Here's a post theros update to Craig Wescoe's mono-white devo. I'm gonna take it for a spin and maybe update it to be more aggressive or more prison-y. Considering a lot of stuff for this, maybe a charming prince/wall of omens/thraben inspector package, maybe a benalish marshall, history of benalia theme package. For historical reference, here's Wescoe's original GP list: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1706917#onlineMy biggest concern is the 'land tax' effects are too durdly and there's no way to leverage them into an advantage. I think I'd want to cut them entirely for something more proactive but I'm also worried that takes too much away from the devotion package, having not tested yet. 6. Heliod Sisters by Paimon (Modern) Paimon writes:I stole a bunch of ideas from the last time you guys talked about white devotion in modern and made: I've played it all of once. Against mono-red prowess. The player was new to the deck, so it might not be as easy a match as it seemed. But then again, it seemed like if I drew my lands on time, I won. It feels greedy, but I want to put Archangel of Thune into the sideboard. 7. Heliod Company by Been395 (Modern) 8. Scarlet Grinding Breach by Josh aka Auralox (Modern) Josh writes:A mostly mono-red shell for the Grinding Station+Underworld Breach combo lines in Modern. Splashing black for its fine interaction and removal options. Open to input and suggestions!Scrap trawler+sword in gy and zero drop gets the ball rolling with a grinding station in play Sword in graveyard and station and trawler in play. Memnite in hand. But you can get there other ways tooThe goblin engineer can help set up the sword in the graveyard as well as retrieve needed bits later on. The fallback plan is to rebuy galv blast with breach, but we don’t need as much mana fixing since red is already our base color so I reduced the astrolabe to 2The Pia Nalaar (which are strangely Legendary) are still in the sideboard from an with experiment where I ran 2 mox amber, but I found that just a bit more than I could fit in…The last line to mention is the wishclaw talisman line, you can sac it to station before your opponent gets a chance to use it which always just feels great. Bonus: Green/blue Control by Peacharita (Modern)Note: needs to be updated post-Once Upon a Time Peacharita writes:Here’s my updated mono green control w/ blue splash since oko and lattice got banned. Deck feels lacking without something else like trinisphere to slow the game down that you can jam on t2. Using primal command to time walk the opponent and search up silver bullet creatures that can be looped with eternal witness and thassa is big game, and flickering coatl and acidic slime is sweet value. Just needs something to jam on t2 that impedes opponents gameplan similar to trinisphere or oko. 9. Here Comes the Doom by Jason (aka KilgoreTrout) (Pioneer) Jason writes:It needs tweaking for consistency, but man it is fun. When it goes off, sometimes youbjsut clear a board. T2 Soul-Scar, T2 Runaway Steam-Kin, T3 imminent, get a counter on steamkin, T4 cast 1cmc spell, 2cmc spell, attack with 4/4 steamkin, remove counters second mainphase to make 3 Mana for a 3cmc spellPurphoros's Intervention is way better than I thought. A mainboard answer to a big dumb creature without casting multiple spells has been super useful. Not sure on Satyr's Cunning or Escape Velocity. I have played a league with them yet. Put them in here as a discussion point. They allow you to get imminent doom triggers from the GY. Escape Velocity can get you the 1 and 2 CMC trigger 10. Spaghetti Flash by nonstripedzebra (Pioneer) 11. Rakdos Kroxa by Illsicknasty (Pioneer) Illsicknasty writes:I haven’t played it against any top tier beside a my friends mono white, but if we in Portland get quarantined / school and work get shut down, It will finally give me a reason to learn MODO Bonus: Scion of Whirza by Brian M (Pioneer)(See Episode 46 for Dan's league play-through report of this deck) Brian writes:My hypothesis was that Karn, Scion of Urza is basically unplayable unless you want the Karnstructs as there are typically better CA engines available than Karn. The Karnstructs are a bit weak to opposing chump blockers, so when I saw Shadowspear it seemed like the missing piece to make the Karnstructs playable. The goal of the deck is to drag the game long and eventually win through a massive Karnstruct strapped up with a Shadowspear. Alternatively flooding the board with Thopters can be an avenue to a win. The area where the deck can suffer a bit is against other decks that can grind well. I've considered a splash into R for some additional interaction and ways to get a bit more aggro. I've also considered Green for Lifecraft Awakening and Uro, but that sort of pushes all in on the GY synergies whereas currently only Emry really cares about the yard. Bonus: Human Revolution by nonstripedzebra (Pioneer) Bonus: Red Fell Revolver by Jason aka Kilgore Trout (Pioneer) Jason writes:Would love some help optimizing the numbers here: I keep tweaking how many pingers vs spells. Not sure if I want card draw main or if I should play it like burn (no card draw, all gas) The card draw spells are more triggers, which is why I have it built the way it currently is.Bedlam Reveler has gotten stuck in my hand a few times. Would love to replace it. Was shocks 7-8 originally and that was feeling pretty good in the league Contact Us If you like our show, be sure to join our Patreon and leave us an Apple Podcasts review. Why do some waiters squat when they serve a table?Sam RadionThis is a psychological trick and once you have noticed it once you'll start noticing it forever!Squatting at the table puts yourself on the same level as the diners. It allows you to look them straight in the eye rather than looking down on them and humanises you as “Sam your server”. “I like Sam, he seems friendly, lets's give him a bigger than normal tip”And that's what it's all about in this instance - money. It may be to get a bigger tip or it may be to ensure you feel comfortable at the restaurant and come back again and again to buy food, it's a business after all. Some servers are naturally good with people and will do this automatically, some are told to do it in training. The trouble is, now you've started noticing this behaviour, you'll start noticing all the other psychological tricks that are used on you…That's sweet, the server drew a smiley face and wrote ‘thanks' on my billThe server touches your shoulder or upper armThe server gave their nameThe server repeats your order back to you (builds rapport)The waitress is wearing a red t-shirt (only seems to work on waitresses serving men)The server said that the dish you chose was their personal favourite tooThe server told you they had a special offer for only one couple tonight and they chose youThe bill came with a small gift for you (a small free liqueur, a sweetie or chocolate) - receiving a gift means you should give a gift, i.e. tip.And don't start on all the psychological tricks employed on menus like boxing out the highest margin foods

This is the inaugural episode of First, Last, Best, Worst- a podcast where we dissect the craft of songwriting by having an artist play their first, last, best, and worst songs. We want to know when and how they wrote their songs and why they choose them for this show. The first songwriter brave enough to play our game is Myles Holt, a Brooklyn based songwriter and band member of The Toothe (thetoothe.bandcamp.com). His brand of songwriting is deceptively charming and patently weird Folk Noir. Myles has hosts Taylor and Carl cracking up with evocative lyrics and deep insights into his craft. This is the world's first analog podcast recorded to tape on a Tascam 4-track for that sweet subtle lo-fi analog texture. Reach us at: FLBWPodcast@gmail.com
