Dorothy Enriquez, Founder of the Ellevate Collective, shares her wisdom about what's required to change the face of leadership to fully reflect today's workforce. Workplace demographics are rapidly changing. Researchers predict that somewhere between 2045 to 2050 the US will become a majority-minority nation. This reality impacts all aspects of our lives, including the face of leadership in our workplaces. Many executive teams I work with recognize this shift. They want to build inclusive workplaces that fully reflect these shifting demographics. Yet, many feel overwhelmed because they are uncertain where to begin. They juggle competing priorities. First, they must transform their current workplace culture to prepare for this future workforce. Second, they also must develop the next and most diverse generation of U.S. leaders. In the Belonging Membership Community, we recognize that the next generation of leaders expect so much more from their workplaces and their career velocity. They hold high expectations for their employees, and status-quo companies refusing to transform their cultures consistently fail to meet them. They also recognize to fully prepare for the future, the face of leadership – and the way we lead - must also change. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to chat with, Dorothy Enriquez, Founder of the Elevate Collective on the latest episode of the Imagine Belonging podcast. Dorthy generously offered tangible solutions for leaders who recognize the opportunity this moment presents. As a 15-year corporate veteran and author of Be Accountable, Be Fabulous, Dorothy helps leaders maximize their influence across all levels. Listen Here Watch Here Together, our conversation supports inclusive leaders, visionaries, change makers, DEIB professionals, and social justice champions of all backgrounds and identities as we imagine and build the future of leadership. Some topics we explored include: --Naming specific trends reshaping the face of leadership. --Overcoming anti-Blackness hindering career velocity for Black professionals. --Holding ourselves and other executives accountable to lead with our stated values. --Distinguishing the roles your sponsors, mentors, allies, and cheerleaders play. Savor this insightful talk, and if you're looking for more ways to connect with inspiring leaders like Dorothy, be sure to join the Belonging Membership Community – a community of inclusive leaders - and those on their way to joining us - committed to advancing their DEIB goals, practicing community care, and activating their belonging vision. Our Service is facilitating a valuable Community Membership for Vendor discounts and extensive Member savings. We are certainly NOT in the business of selling or convincing. Our focus must be clearly understood by all interested individuals, groups, companies and organizations. We simply take people through a process and let them decide. The Three Step Process is Simple: Have them engage during our meetings and train sessions, when they are scheduled. Have them view website content. Get their questions answered at the earliest opportunity. If necessary do a three way meeting call for 3rd party credibility or have them listen to a more experienced assembly of leadership during Company Conference Calls. The Key - Consistency: You can do this business part time or full time but you can not do it sometime. Be Accountable and Track your Activities: Talk to one new person every day inviting them to watch the 4 videos. Follow up with at least three people in the Process every day. Every Independent Business Owner (IBO) needs a solid business plan that charts a clear course for the first year, projects the vision of their business five years into the future, and states their dates to achieve Ranks: Contributor, Difference Maker, Life Changer, and Solution. Always be prepared: Know your One Minute Commercial and have your business cards too. Don't try to push a rope: You can't do it for someone and you can't make them do it. Don't expect others to live up to your expectations, they have their own goals. Work with people who are ready to go now. Actions are louder than words, you will know who is ready by what they are doing. Lead by example: If you sit back and manage your group, they will do the same thing. Don't tell people you'll do it for them. If you do it for them, you will deny them the personal and emotional growth of building an organization and you will be creating a cripple. This is not duplicatable. Taking action eliminates all doubt: Don't go slow. You have 90 days to get a new IBO some measurable success or you may lose them. Personal goals: In addition to the goals mentioned, make a few personal goals that really motivate you. The harder you work, the luckier you will get. Focus on mentoring others and excite their motivation too Have a long term perspective. It takes a while to build up your residual income base, but once it starts coming in, there is nothing in the world like it. To enjoy big success you must believe in and are excited about your opportunity, product, and service. A good question to ask yourself is, “Would I benefit from this product and service regardless of the opportunity?” Appreciate every, “No thank you”. Remember for every few No's there is going to be a, “Yes”. Therefore, every time you get a No it means the Yes is getting closer. You are looking for people that are looking for you. You are the messenger not the message. Be coachable. Everyone goes through a learning curve during training. Us the system: Know our Product and Service, the Comp Plan, Team Steps and the Process. The phone is your best friend. You can't say the right thing to the wrong person, you can't say the wrong thing to the right person. Master this and you will never experience rejection. Master the phone and you will make a fortune. Networking is not for everyone, yet, we all do it on a small or large scale. Don't try to talk people into the business because you will have to talk them into working the business. Members will benefit from service and discounts, let them enjoy that. You can't drag them across the business finish line. Invite and excite is a phrase that i use repeatedly to keep members engaged. As you have success, realize that you are not the only person responsible for your success. Be grateful and help others achieve the same success you now enjoy. Replicate the positive outcomes and view the negative ones as valuable lessons learned content. Pride is a trap the world sets for us. In this message, Pastor Jamie Nunnally shares how we can defeat pride. 1 John 2:16 "For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father but are from this world." What is pride?Pride is a mindset of self-focus that leads to an incorrect assessment our ability and our importance.Romans 12:3 Pride is misplaced confidence in self, instead of God. Pride can reveal itself through:Arrogance – I am better at something than I really am. Gal. 6:2 "For if anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself."Assumption – I know more than I really do. 1 Cor. 8:1-2 But knowledge puffs up while love builds up. Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know.Entitlement – I deserve more than I really do.Self-sufficiency – I can handle more than I really can. Control – I am in charge of more than I really am. James 4:13-16Elitism – I don't need others as much as I really do. False humility – I am worse than I really am.You don't have to talk about how bad you are in order to convey how good Jesus is. Why is the pride a big deal?1. God hates pride and opposes proud people. Proverbs 6:16-17 – "These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look."James 4:6 "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."Pride turns God from your advocate to your adversary. 2. Pride will hurt you.Proverbs 16:18 "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."You can either be humble or be humbled. 3. Pride is the first sin. 1 Tim 3:6 "He must not be a recent convert, or he may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil." How to defeat pride:1. Repent. 1 Cor. 4:7When you begin to realize how incredible God is, you will also begin to recognize howincomplete you are. A right perspective of God gives you a right perspective of yourself. 2. Practice humility.1 Peter 5:5 "Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."Humility is correctly determining who's in charge and acting accordingly. 3. Don't be your own biggest fan. Proverbs 27:2 "Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips." 4. Serve others.Mark 10:44-45 The more you serve, the more you look like Jesus. 5. Be Accountable. 1 Thess. 5:11 Keep people around you who aren't impressed with you that will challenge you and correct you. Are you caught in the world's trap of pride?

Leaders don't own their positions, their departments, their teams, or even their projects. They are entrusted to be good stewards of them in their leadership so they can grow results and profits. Application: Once we have the correct perspective and step into our role as stewards, there are three things we need to learn to do well: Assess, Invest, and Be Accountable. First, assess the job, team, stakeholders or project that we've been given. Second, we need to invest in resources so positive growth is made. If you're in a post-pandemic place of needing new life for your virtual fitness business, this may be inspiring. It's no secret that building wealth includes multiple revenue streams. For instance, you may provide physical training or virtual coaching, but you add supplements to that, or you affiliate for products and services you use and trust. Maybe you also have speaking or consulting revenue. 00:00 In this episode there's a unique example of a virtual fitness business that you can apply to your brick and mortar or online business. None of us can provide all the answers all the time. And in fact some people have built their businesses entirely on not providing any answers themselves but relying on other experts to do it. If you struggle with self-promotion as many fitness and health coaches do, you have another reason to take a look at this virtual fitness business model. I'll ask our guest about how this idea was born, draw some parallel examples for you, and together we'll provide some hope and inspiration for ways to make your business thrive with very little expense to get started. Stay tuned until the end when I'm going to give you a little homework to get started. My Guest: Denise Stegall is the CEO and curator of Living Healthy List.com. She is also co-author of the best-selling book, The Successful Body. As an inspirational thought leader, she is determined to provide her Living Healthy List readers with honest, reliable, research-backed information on health, wellness, personal development, and fun that they can use in real life. Denise began her career with a bachelor's degree in hotel, restaurant, and business management, focusing on nutrition. She's condensed 25 years of experience and study in nutrition, cooking, exercise, and coaching to help women find a happy, healthy lifestyle that works for them. Her experience in cooking and nutrition delivers a unique perspective on what works (and doesn't work) for most people. Her philosophy revolves around the foundation: Eat Real Food, Make Good Decisions, and Be Accountable. Questions we answer in this episode: 04:20 I would describe what you do as a kind of curator for your audience of all the good things, a place where they can come for resources and references and direction in not just exercise but different aspects of health. Healthy Living List is kind of the Huffington Post of health for midlife women. Did I capture that? 08:15 Talk a little about your business model and how it was born, how do you find and filter resources for your audience? 09:27 Who “makes the cut” and who doesn't? 11:10 Has this been a lucrative business for you? 12:07 How long have you been doing this and what's the current size of your audience/email list? 14:37 What's been the best way for you to grow your email list (always a goal for businesses, especially those just getting started)? 19:37 Can you explain how the health and wellness experts fit into LHL. What is their role? Your homework is easy. To start, all you need to do is create a list. Come up with at least 5 things you use, love, and swear by for your own definition of a healthy lifestyle. Keep going to 10 if you can. Are any of those products created by companies who offer affiliate programs. Is the affiliate commission worthwhile, meaning if you promote and use the “real estate” of your emails and social media posts to promote, can you make a significant enough profit from doing so? And… feel good about it too? By the way, I share plenty of things just because they're good… for my audience, for the planet, and don't make a penny. When people are asking you….” what do you use?” or “what do you think of XXX?” you know you have some influence and you can use it to help yourself and your audience. Would you define yours as a healthy lifestyle? It's one of those things that can be illusive. That is, the finish line keeps moving away from you like your own handheld out in front of you would. 00:00 Before we open I invite you to come up with an answer to this… You've been tasked with creating the Wikipedia definition of “healthy lifestyle.” What do you write? I'm thinking you better push pause. Because while it sounds so simplistic to say it like everybody knows, I'm going to challenge and say perhaps no one actually knows! Prove me wrong. But this is why I'm giving the homework… I don't want to do it myself! Can't wait to read what you add to show notes (will you please? The link for this one will be /healthy-lifestyle) With my guest today we're going to attempt to define a healthy lifestyle. We'll discuss how you discover yours, measure whether it's working for you, and where to look to define it for yourself. My Guest: Denise Stegall is the CEO and curator of Living Healthy List.com. Her philosophy revolves around the foundation: Eat Real Food, Make Good Decisions, and Be Accountable. Questions we answer on this podcast: 03:10 What mistakes do you think women make with nutrition? You're an advocate for eating “real food.” Let's talk about the unintentional mistakes women might be making with their diets. 08:20 How do you define “good decisions”? While there are a lot of women who want to, they are confused by what is a good decision, what's your way of defining that uniquely for a listener right now? 10:15 If the problem we're trying to solve for is a “healthy lifestyle,” how does anyone woman get there for herself and her unique needs? 13:06 Let's talk about exercise just a bit because I know you've done STRONGER, how did it go? How does that fit into your recommendations for women in midlife? 17:10 What do you mean by “be accountable?” How would you describe the steps to getting started? 19:33 How did you come up with the title for your new book? 21:33 How did you come up with the idea for Living Healthy List and why is it important? 22:00 What is your mission at Living Healthy List? 5 Tips To Get Back To The Workplace With Purpose. How to feel empowered, accountable and agile as you shift gears from home to office now people are heading ‘back to work' in person. In this episode I take you through my 5 key steps to ensure you can be ready, empowered and energised to return to the workplace on purpose. Last week Google amongst other companies placed a new mandate that employees need to come back to the office. No matter where you sit right now and what you may have gotten used to, there is a need to breathe a new connection, productivity and presence back into office spaces - for many reasons. If you are struggling to get your head around 'getting back to the workplace' here are my 5 core steps to realign the now and next and assist your own transition ( + your families) for the best possible outcome. Agile versus rigid thinking It is crucial not to get stuck in what you have just got used to but to see the fundamental opportunities that this may create to harness a shift for companies to re-engage and energise their staff, and for employees to build confidence and connection to working back at the office. Here are the 5 key checkpoints to ensure you are creating the best chance of success and productivity for yourself (and your work and family) as you transition back to working on location: Step 1 Be Accountable - make a plan don't wing it. Step 2 Be Agile - Design your new version of a winning week™, integrate all the areas of your life with a realistic look at time, locations, logistics and your vital ingredients Step 3 Take Action - divide and conquer, share tasks, follow through on points 1 and 2 and take the steps to embrace the process Step 4 Have the right Attitude - how you communicate to yourself about this, how you show up for others and around others all will have a ripple effect on your outcome, enjoyment and results - choose a positive mindset and reframe the situation to see opportunity rather than doom and gloom. Step 5 Embrace this. Companies need to get more productive, improve employee connection and reconnect with communities - YOU are a part of that. Step 6 (BONUS) Awareness - Nothing is FINITE. Be aware, follow through and then set a pit stop to review monthly what works and are you being honestly accountable for yourself. Shift a few elements as required and be aware of what is working well, inspiring you and what needs your attention. We cannot find outside of ourselves what we cannot find inside of ourselves and that means that our most important relationship is actually with...yourself. You need to have a healthy relationship with yourself before you can establish a healthy connection with others, and that often takes quite a bit of self-reflection to accomplish. Six Steps to Healing After thorough self-examination, you should be prepared to take action and make a change. These six steps will aid you through your healing process and help you to overcome past trauma. 1. Develop Your Awareness - You can't heal trauma if you without recognizing the aforementioned signs that it is there. Once you've accomplished that, it is time to move forward from the harmful relationships in your past. 2. Be Understanding - Try to shift your perspective on the past and focus less on the pain, taking a more objective view of what happened. When you can apply logic and reason to a past relationship, it allows you to examine why your partner (or you) might have acted a certain way. 3. Have Compassion - Understand that we are all human and make mistakes, there is not a day that goes by without making a misstep. When we have compassion for ourselves and our past, that is when we are able to effectively connect with those around us. And having compassion for those who have done us wrong is important, as well. 4. Have Forgiveness - When you are understanding and compassionate, you are also empowered to forgive yourself. Shedding resentment for yourself and for others, even forgiving “the unforgivable”, is a freeing act. 5. Be Accountable and Learn - Practice asking yourself two questions about trauma in order to get past it: “What did I do to attract this to myself and what am I supposed to learn from this situation?” When you are able to find the light, love and lessons in a given event, you have taken control of it. 6. Transformation - Following those five steps gives you power over any trauma in your life, giving you the tools to overcome what's holding you back, so you can thrive in the present. On this episode of The Alliance Activity podcast, Andy Albright serves up 8 rules to know in regards to his 8 Steps. Settle in and learn as Andy gives you tips to help you improve in these eight areas. Let's look at each rule ... Rule 1: Set the example to be the example (Personal Use). Quote: "A good example is the best sermon." --Ben Franklin Moral: A visual is worth a thousand advice. Rule 2: Perform duty to gain result (Work). Quote: "The reward of one duty done is the power to fulfill another." --George Eliot (Mary Ann Evans) Moral: The more one treats work as an opportunity, the more chances one has at success. Rule 3: Lean in to be in (Listen). Quote: "The weaker we feel, the harder we lean. And the harder we lean, the stronger we grow." --J.I. Packer Moral: You'll never know what you don't know until you embrace leaning toward the unknown. Rule 4: Increase knowledge to sharpen mind (Read). Quote: "Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body." --Richard Steele Moral: You become knowledgeable by reading daily, you become sharper by thinking about what you read daily, and you become stronger by implementing what you read daily. Rule 5: Show up to blow up (Attend All Meetings). Quote: "Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up." --Brene Brown Moral: Show up the first time like you're meant to be there and your courage will be introduced to success. Rule 6: Stay humble to remain thirsty (Be Teachable). Quote: "Be willing to be a beginner every single morning." --Meister Eckhart Moral: Success reveals its cup to the teachable, and the teachable are the only ones that remain thirsty enough to drink from its cup. Rule 7: Accept liability to honor obligation (Be Accountable). Quote: "Accountability breeds response -- ability." --Stephen Covey Moral: Personal liability is a statement of personal promise to deliver on defined obligations. Rule 8: Speak optimism to boost attraction (Communicate with a Positive Mental Attitude). Quote: "Who you are is speaking so loudly that I can't hear what you're saying." --Ralph Waldo Emerson Moral: Speaking to hear yourself speak might boost your ego, but it will not leave them begging for more. A well-timed authentic and positive word can change the course of someone's day. We hope this helps you as you work on improving in all that you do daily. UNDERSTANDING NETWORKING AND YOUR LEVEL OF COMMITMENT Principles of Network Marketing: #1 Consistent effort, #2 Duplication, and #3 Give it enough time. Ingredients for Success: #1 Determine what you want, #2 Decide what you are willing to give up in order to get what you want, #3 associate with people who will help you, and #4 Have a plan for each day of what you are going to accomplish. Psychological Stages of Network Marketing: #1 It's not worth it - There are no short cuts, you're not paid what you are worth at first, #2 It's worth it - Income is good but don't sit back, keep prospecting, #3 I'm not worth this much - Entrepreneurs are paid for their vision, courage, and stamina. Discovering and Challenging Our Belief: #1 Network Marketing doesn't work, #2 In Network Marketing you must be a salesperson, and #3 Network Marketing companies are all the same. To Succeed in Network Marketing: You must have a strong belief in: #1 The company, #2 The product or service, #3 Network Marketing, and #4 Yourself. You must challenge and change old beliefs and behavior that adversely affect you reaching your goals and making your dreams come true. What Does it Mean to be a Leader? #1 A leader is able to answer three questions: Where are we going? How are we going to get there? And why are we doing it this way? #2 Leadership is showing someone the way and then stepping out of the way, #3 A Leader leads by example and influence not by title or position. Your can't ask people to do something you are not willing to do. Identify Your Level of Commitment. If you want to learn, we will teach you. If you want to be a Leader, we will help you. If you want to develop a serious business, we are committed to you. We understand that you will increase as you grow. But for now, where do you see yourself? #1 Just dabbling - no serious commitment or expectations, #2 A small home based business - moderate commitment with modest financial expectations like $1,000 per month, #3 An opportunity - business is seen as having potential. If taken seriously it could create serious monthly income, #4 My Business, My Opportunity, My Moment, My Vehicle: This is quantum leap in insight, understanding, and conviction. An attitude that suggests, “I am All In this business and this business is in me!” The magnitude of the opportunity is sensed and the financial implications are obvious. Be Accountable and Track your Activities: Talk to one new person every day inviting them to watch the 4 videos. Follow up with at least three people in the Process every day. Every Independent Business Owner (IBO) needs a solid business plan that charts a clear course for the first year, projects the vision of their business five years into the future, and states their dates to achieve Solveres Ranks: Contributor, Difference Maker, Life Changer, and Solution. Always be prepared: Know your One Minute Commercial and have your business cards. Don't try to push a rope: You can't do it for someone and you can't make them do it. Don't expect others to live up to your expectations, they have their own goals. Work with people who are ready to go now. Actions are louder than words, you will know who is ready by what they are doing. Lead by example: If you sit back and manage your group, your group will do the same thing and your business will not grow. Do what you want your group to do. Have a long term perspective. Networking is not for everyone. Don't try to talk people into the business because you will have to talk them into working the business. EP 33 What You Permit You Promote How to Be Accountable for What Happens Around You at Home and Work- What you Condone You Own- What You Tolerate You Deserve This is a tool that I use almost every day, and I really try to keep this at the forefront of my mind so that I can be holding myself accountable. And people around me are also held accountable in a way that produces the best possible outcomes for everybody in your family, in your work place, wherever you want. And what this tool is called is what you permit you promote. IG: @angietoninirogers Community: http://bit.ly/whollymadelifefbgroup Email: angietoninirogers@gmail.com Wholly Made Life™ Short Assessment: http://bit.ly/shortassessment Angie's Coaching Menu: Email me at angietoninirogers@gmail.com Hey guys, what's up. It's Angie again. And I am here. Your host of Wholly Made Life. And I just wanted to drop a bonus episode for you. This is a tool that I use almost every day, and I really try to keep this at the forefront of my mind so that I can be holding myself accountable. And people around me are also held accountable in a way that produces the best possible outcomes for everybody in your family, in your work place, wherever you want. And what this tool is called is what you permit you promote. Okay. And I want to make sure that I'm saying that correctly so that you understand exactly what I'm saying. It's what you permit. P E R M I T is what you promote. P R O M O T E. Did I just spell that? Right. Okay. What you permit, you promote. And I wanted to talk about this because as you know, if you've gone through my accountability series, that was back towards the beginning of the episodes. I don't remember their numbers, but there were four of them. I believe it talks about how we can't really hold other people accountable until we hold ourselves accountable. And the whole premise behind what you permit you promote is that if you are allowing things to be said, or to be done, that are, may seem small, or maybe they're big, but it is not right. Really an appropriate thing to be happening. If you don't stop and address that thing, then you are essentially promoting that. And whether this is in your family or at your workplace, this is a really important technique for you to remember, to hold yourself accountable and then hold others accountable. So just remember what you permit you promote. So this is an example. If one of my three boys does or says something that is inappropriate or not acceptable, if I don't address it, then it allows the other boys to think that I am permitting that. And also then promoting that if I don't correct it, or if I don't point out that that was inappropriate or unkind or whatever it is hurtful, then I am in fact promoting that behavior to continue. So it's really important to address things that come up in real time so that it doesn't appear that you are promoting this it's really important in parenting. I feel like even when they're small things, because when we don't address the small things, those small things add up to be big things. And it's kind of like if you don't address a small thing, but then when you want to address a big thing, it's like, well, you know, if you don't even address this little thing over here, then why would I think that you're going to address a big thing over here? An example, Apple is this. And I can think of an example at work where you've got a bunch of adolescents in the room together, and one kid says something unkind or mean, or making fun of another person. If you don't address that behavior, at least to say that that's not appropriate. That's not the way that we talk to someone. That's not the way that we encourage someone. If you don't address it in some way, then everyone else around that person who engaged in that behavior will start to feel like that that's an appropriate way to interact. And not only will they that give that person who engaged in that behavior permission to continue that behavior and then probably escalate that behavior. The rest of the people in that room will also feel like they now have permission to engage in that. So then you think about a group of adolescents or, you know, three boys in your home or, or your kids in your home. If one person starts to pop off and say something unkind to somebody else and then another person, and then another person you've just got all that feeding and that escalates like that. So it's important to at the very least address it somehow some way so that you are not by way of not intervening permitting and then promoting that behavior to occur. I hope that makes sense. So in it doesn't have to be that big of a deal. It could be something of, you know, I don't like the way that made me feel when you said that to your brother, that kind of hurt my feelings a little bit. Oh mom, I'm just kidding. And so maybe they make that a joke, but they still know that I did not approve of, and I am not permitting them to be unkind and, and make fun of their brother that way. Does that make sense? It's kind of like when you don't address those things, it just sends the wrong message to everybody else in the room. It communicates your values. So whether you do or don't address these things that happen, it communicates your values. I can think of another example. You're sitting in a group and let's say one of your girlfriends starts to talk about someone that's not in the room. If you sit there and don't engage and don't interact and don't say anything, but you're sitting there listening, you are in fact engaging in that conversation. And you are in fact then permitting that in, in sitting almost in agreement with whatever's going on, which can quickly turn into gossip. And we know as I've talked about back in another episode, that gossip is very hurtful and it's something that can damage relationships very, very quickly. So the right thing to do in that situation would to be, to say, you know, I'm not comfortable talking about this that person's not here to defend themselves or to give us their side. So why don't we, you know, not have this conversation or why don't we switch on switch to something else now, does this take a little bit of courage? Yeah, it does. It takes some courage and you can do this in a kind way, but it's about kind of standing up for things that means something and not allowing small things to build up to where, you know, you've got one kid, one of my boys making fun of another kid and I'm sitting right here and then the other one pops off to him and then the other one then kind of kicks them in the shin and then the other one starts throwing stuff. And then all of a sudden, all you they're all on the floor and in a big old gang pile of, of punches and somebody ends up crying and stomps off to the room. I mean that to me, yo boy moms, if you all experienced this Lord have mercy. Or is it just me just as my wild and crazy boys? I don't know, but the constant fighting and wrestling and, you know, those mean word jabs that end up in punches and then somebody getting upset and running off with their ball to the room. It just doesn't have to get there. Or the very least, they, they at least know that I disapprove of the way they're talking to each other. You know, I'm reminding them, you know, that's, that's not okay. There's power in your, in your words. I don't want to hear you say those things about your brother, whether you're joking or not. That's not an inappropriate joke. I don't like that. I don't approve of that. Okay. So it's just, you know, this is, this is good for any circumstance that you're ever in, whether you're on a team at work, whether you are parenting your kids, whether you are serving at your church, whether you are in the grocery line and you know, someone's talking bad about the checkout girl, you know, it's just, it's not okay. And I just don't ever want to be a position where I have some sort of accountability or I guess, responsibility or ownership in causing situations to escalate to where they would be hurtful or you know, lack, integrity. Okay. So again, what you permit you promote, you know, when you tolerate a certain dysfunction, it actually signals that you're condoning that dysfunction to occur when you don't speak out against it, when you don't act out against it, it basically gives license to that person to continue that. And then while that person continues that behavior, other people will start to fall in line with that and say, well, she gets away with it. I can get away with it. And then it just festers. So I really feel like us as you know, powerful wonder women, as I talked about in a couple episodes ago, it's our responsibility and it's our, and I think we should be accountable to raise the standards of conversations and interactions that are happening in our circles. It's I think it's, we are in a place where we can help to transform the conversations and the interactions that are happening. And it, it, it almost forces other people to step up their game and to just be a better person to be around. So I will leave you with this, what you permit, you promote what you allow, you encourage, what you can don't you own and what you tolerate, you deserve. And a lady by the name of Michelle Malkin said that. All right, lady. So my challenge to you today is to only permit and promote what you want to get and see more of. Okay. All right, ladies, I will see you in the next episode, make sure you hop over to our Facebook group so that we can continue the conversation over there. And if you have any comments, I would love for you to hop into my email at Angie, tonyRogers@gmail.com. And let me know, Know what you're thinking. The Accountability Minute:Business Acceleration|Productivity
Today we are talking about Tip #4 for developing and keeping great habits, which is to Be Accountable. One of the best ways to make sure that you stick to your new good habit is to hold yourself accountable. One way of doing this is to tell people around you about your new habit and what you want the end results to be. Tell family members, associates, colleagues… anyone who you spend time with. Good intentions don't actually produce results, so we all need a little accountability along the way. There are two great benefits to doing this… 1. By telling everyone about your new good habit, you will be more apt to stay consistent and see it through. Nobody likes to look bad, and by telling a lot of people about it, you will feel obligated to continue with it. 2. In sharing your new habits with those around you, you will be more apt to receive encouragement and praise for your good choices. This can go a long way towards helping you to feel more accomplished as you strive to implement your new routine. Tune in tomorrow for Tip #5 for developing and keeping great habits. On this episode of The Alliance Activity podcast, Andy Albright wants to talk about knowing when you have a solid person on your team. Each of the Prospects you work with have to be able to do three things: • They have to be able to bring their own width without your help -- personally recruit. • They have to be a team player -- do the 8 Steps. • They have to be able to take second and third legs -- other than the tap root that you helped build with them -- and take it a minimum of eight levels in depth. How the 8 Steps Line Up with Team Player Attributes: 1. Personal Use to become credible (convincing). 2. Work to become result-oriented (completing). 3. Listen to become focused (leaning). 4. Read to become informed (reasoning). 5. Attend All Meetings to become dutiful (honoring). 6. Be Teachable to become humble (respecting). 7. Be Accountable to become answerable (explaining). 8. Hi. My name is Brian Holmes, and I am a recovering people pleaser. Before you get your feathers ruffled, I'm willing to bet you're one, too! Why do so many of us struggle with pleasing others and gaining their approval? What motivates us to say yes when we know we shouldn't? Is it possible to break free from people-pleasing and performance-based approval? In this episode, we'll revisit an issue that seemed to resonate with so many of you and answer these questions and more as we talk about Breaking Free From The Addiction of Approval. You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.” ~ John Lydgate What is the ROOT of our approval addiction? Most often, this tendency can be tracked back to a relationship or an event where one's value was inherently linked to their performance. What is the RESULT of our approval addiction? We say yes when we know we should say no. We accept jobs that do not bring us satisfaction or benefit us financially. We make promises we can't keep. We create an unsustainable life! Reflection Questions: 1. Do you have a hard time saying “no”? 2. Do you find yourself striving to meet what you perceive to be other people's expectations? 3. Do you lose self-esteem when people criticize or question you? 4. Do you often find yourself trying to help people understand why you are doing what you are doing? 5. Do you feel as though you never measure up? 6. Are you consumed with seeking approval or recognition? 7. Are you a people pleaser? 7 Truths You Must Embrace: 1. You are loved, accepted, and approved of by God. 2. You have tremendous value. 3. Your value is not based on what you do, but who you are. 4. The people in your life will always have their expectations of you, but only you can determine what you expect from yourself. 5. People pleasing is a plague. It will only bring you misery, frustration, and less than success. 6. You cannot expect people to understand where you are or where you are going. They simply cannot. 7. “If you live for people's acceptance, you will die from their rejection.” ~ LeCrae Tips For Breaking Free: Unplug for a moment. Decompress and take the pressure off yourself. Evaluate by listing your gifts, talents, abilities, and qualities. Get Clarity. Who am I, and why am I here? Identify the areas you feel you need to please others. Ask. Why? What is the root of this need in me? Decide. I will resolve this root issue and I will no longer be driven by fear. Create boundaries. Make decisions ahead of time. Be Accountable. Practice “no”. Closing Thoughts: We teach people how to treat us. Most people love you as long as you fit in the box they've created for you. Don't be afraid to disappoint. Do what is right and let the chips fall where they may.

When your toddler throws a toy in anger – or your teen slams the door and refuses to talk to you – your first impulse may be to yell at them. But how effective is that? And what would be more helpful, both in this situation and for the child’s longterm development? Dr. Jane Nelsen, author of the well-known Positive Discipline book series (and a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother!) helps us move beyond a quick reaction to misbehavior, take a moment to consider the meaning of our child’s behavior and remember to help our child maintain a sense of connection and belonging. With practical examples drawn from her work and personal experience, Jane helps us move toward a new understanding of children’s misbehavior and arrive at discipline practices that support children’s growth and learning and helps us be the thoughtful, sensitive example our children need. Think about a recent situation in which you needed to deal with your child’s misbehavior. What would you say was the meaning of your child’s behavior? To what extent did your response preserve the sense of connection between you and your child? Are there positive discipline tools that you would like to try the next time you encounter a similar situation? He has trained and coached thousands of people and hundreds of companies around the world (including Fortune 500, Dallas Cowboys, and more!). His work is based on the national bestselling book Becoming Your Best: The 12 Principles of Highly Successful Leaders. We would LOVE a 5-star rating to help us show up in the search engines so more of Construction Nation can listen to industry leaders and experts on their computers, phones, or tablets! Rob's Leadership Journey Rob and his father Steve started Becoming Your Best Global Leadership 8 years ago, based on decades of research around the question "What sets apart great leaders and high performers from everyone else?" No matter what industry, there are certain people who always rise to the top no matter what situation or circumstance they find themselves in. What sets them apart? What did they do that other leaders didn’t do? Rob and his father discovered the 12 main principles that highly successful leaders have in common. There is such a lack of leadership today, even though it is the greatest predictor of success. The 12 Principles The 4 Principles of Transformational Leadership Principle #1: Be True to Character Principle #2: Lead with a Vision Principle #3: Manage with a Plan Principle #4: Prioritize your Time The 4 Principles of Teams and Relationships Principle #5: Live the Golden Rule in Business and in Life Principle #6: Build and Maintain Trust Principle #7: Be an Effective Communicator Principle #8: Innovate Through Imagination The 4 Principles of Transformational Living Principle #9: Be Accountable Principle #10: Apply the Power of Knowledge Principle #11: Live in Peace and Balance Principle #12: Never Give Up Details of each principle can be found in the book Becoming Your Best: The 12 Principles of Highly Successful Leaders. The Principle of Be Accountable is particularly relevant for the construction industry. It is much better to work with someone who can take responsibility for what they do and try to fix it rather than someone who blames everything on others and who never takes accountability. How are the 12 Principles Important in Construction? Turnover is a real issue within the construction industry, coupled with concerns about the employment and talent pool to draw from. The 12 Principles are very important in construction because a lot of the concerns and potential opportunities/liabilities in the industry are leadership based. The 12 Principles are the pathway to becoming a great leader; each principle compliments the other. As a team member, it is much better to have (and easier to trust) a leader who has a clear vision, a good character, and who can prioritize their time properly. How Organizations Utilize The 12 Principles While developing the 12 Principles, it was clear that they needed to be sustainable so once people learned and utilized them, they would not be forgotten a week later. Rob’s company was inspired by Benjamin Franklin, who came up with 13 virtues. These 13 virtues embodied one virtue such as kindness or patience that he could work on each week, and then repeat when all 13 were finished. During each week, Benjamin Franklin would focus on that specific virtue and incorporate it into his life via thoughts and behaviors. Rob calls it the “success rhythm”, and they invite teams to focus on 1 principle a week as a team and how to make it actionable. The hope is that over the course of weeks and months, there will be the creation of a "culture by design", the team will be transformed, people who don’t belong there will be weeded out, and the best talent will prove themselves. The biggest barriers to implementing success are ego and mindset. People with big egos think they have everything figured out and don’t really need help improving or being better. People with closed-off mindsets are also rarely willing or ready to accept change or improvement. Best Advice Rob Has Ever Received The best advice that Rob has received are quotes: “You will be the same in 5 years as you are today except for 2 things; the books you read and the people you meet”, which ties into, “You will become the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.” One of the worst things a leader can do is become complacent and think they are fine the way they are. Rob encourages leaders to read personal development books in order to stay ahead of the competition and focus on continuous personal improvement. We also tend to rise or fall with the ones we surround ourselves with. Great leaders need to be able to engage their team, so being around people who can bring you up is crucial. Mom Enough: Parenting tips, research-based advice + a few personal confessions!
As parents, most of us think of frequent praise – and maybe an occasional material reward for good behavior – as essential tools in helping our children build self-esteem and develop the positive behaviors we want them to have. But this week’s Mom Enough guest, author Alfie Kohn, takes strong issue with praise and rewards, contending they undermine children’s intrinsic motivation, lead to reliance on extrinsic reinforcement and reduce generosity. Mr. Kohn goes on to challenge the pervasive focus on children’s behavior rather than their needs and motives, offering some practical, effective alternatives to praising and rewarding good behavior. Mr. Kohn’s many articles and books, including the bestselling 1993 Punished by Rewards (released recently in a 2nd edition), have prompted countless parents and educators to reconsider praise and rewards. Listen to what Alfie Kohn and Mom Enough hosts Marti & Erin have to say in this lively conversation. What did you think of Alfie Kohn’s arguments against using praise and rewards to try to make children behave the way you want them to? Think of a parenting situation in which you’ve used praise. What could you have said and done instead that would have focused on your child’s needs, motives and the intrinsic rewards that might be more likely to lead your child toward the qualities of kindness, respect and responsibility? We have a great show today! We are talking about GOALS! Setting them, Working toward them, and Reaching them! Matt is joined by co-host Dr. Casey Sanders, Guest Matt Shaffstall (Colonial Mortgage) and Paul Kaskel (SuperherosCool.com). We talk about Colonial Mortgage and what makes them special, Superhero Scool and creating new superheroes, and how our guests help people reach their goals! Before you can achieve anything great you have to know what you want to achieve... you have to have a finish line to the race. Whether it's business, life, fitness, or whatever... to succeed you have to have a GOAL.Quotes for the Show:“All who have accomplished great things have had a great aim, have fixed their gaze on a goal which was high, one which sometimes seemed impossible.” —Orison Swett Marden“The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score.” —Bill Copeland“All successful people have a goal. No one can get anywhere unless he knows where he wants to go and what he wants to be or do. ” —Norman Vincent Peale4 Tips for setting POWERFUL Goals:1. Evaluate yourself and See where you are at. 1. You have to know where you are before you can decide where you want to go.2. Define Your Goals 1. What do you want? 2. Stop and think about it... Set out to discover what it is you want out of life3. Make your Goals SMART: 1. The acronym S.M.A.R.T. means Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-sensitive.4. Be Accountable, Setup Accountability. 1. Share your Goals with others. 2. They can encourage and keep you on trackBook to Read: “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie / https://amzn.to/2Nar3WbTool to Try: Shuffle - https://app.elify.com/vbc/yn1u4o03qq?t=phq4cvMotivational Moments:“You have to set goals that are almost out of reach. If you set a goal that is attainable without much work or thought, you are stuck with something below your true talent and potential.” —Steve Garvey“Goals. There’s no telling what you can do when you get inspired by them. There’s no telling what you can do when you believe in them. And there’s no telling what will happen when you act upon them.” —Jim Rohn“I think goals should never be easy, they should force you to work, even if they are uncomfortable at the time.” —Michael PhelpsThere are two schools of thought on goals. Some people would say, set small, simple goals and create a plan with steps to reach those goals, others, like me, would say; Dream up goals that are so big they are scary... then find the small steps to get you there, always with the end goal in mind. Dream Big, Have Scary Goals, and Reach for the stars... failures and obstacles will come your way... I would rather fail when reaching for something incredible than something mediocre. Neither approach is wrong... the important thing is to have those goals and dreams and keep yourself moving closer to them every day with a plan. Never give up, never be scared to try, and never let someone tell you that your goals are too big. A determined person with a goal or dream and a plan is unstoppable. Thanks for joining us on Inspired to Greatness, please check back with us each and every week for fresh tips and new guests. Your level of happiness is not correlated to having perfect circumstances in which to thrive in, it is correlated to the amount of accountability you take for those circumstances. Your circumstances are just your assignment to succeed anyway in. In this episode, I reveal our research into happiness and how it aligns with some of the best happiness research out there. You'll then learn the mental process to cultivate your own level of personal accountability to start living in a high-state of accountability at all times. This will allow you to always see where you can have impact in the world and take action to add value. This creates the ultimate freedom and path to being happy and successful. You'll walk away from this half hour with: The understanding that your level of accountability is MOST correlated to your level of happiness. A breakdown of the four factors that contribute to accountability and how to cultivate all of them in your day-to-day and with those you lead. New realizations about buy-in and the fact that buy-in is a choice that high accountables can choose to make. A refreshing look at resilience as a way to succeed that isn't so exhausting like persistence. The resiliency board tool which helps you stick to your commitments by helping you crowd source for ideas to overcome barriers and setbacks. A hilarious story of my struggle in sticking to the four factors of accountability in my own life. (But I am happier in trying to do so!) If you read this entire description (which I'm not sure if anybody does) - you can DM me at @alexmdorr and I will send you a free download of the resiliency board tool. Back in 2003, I authored an audio book called Powerful Sales: Manage Your Energy, Achieve Your Goals. The book reveals practical concepts I have been using for over 20 years to manage time and energy and enhance my abundance as a fully commissioned sales professional. In this episode of Beyond the 3D, you have the chance to hear Awareness: Tune in for Success, the entire second chapter in Powerful Sales. The principles I write about are universal and can be applied to any career or profession. Give this chapter a listen, enhance your awareness. If you are inspired by what you hear, you can download the entire audio book on amazon.com or CDBaby.com. The chapters you will hear are: It's Your Choice (why you should engage your right to choose) Be, Do Have (my innovative goal achieving method) The Successful Response (Respond successfully to any adversity) The Power of Self-talk (a self-talk primer you can use to set yours on fire) Be Accountable (my #1 concept for reducing self-generated adversity) If you want your life to be different, if you want to make the absolute most of the opportunities presented to you, and if you want to be happy and fulfilled by everything you do, my audio books can help by giving you tools and methods you can apply to make this happen. I care about you and want to help you in anyway I can. Ultimately, however, I can only give you the tools and support. Only YOU can build the life you want! Enjoy the listen. As always, I welcome your comments.
