Divorce lawyer Jim Sexton has spent nearly 30 years watching marriages fall apart - and he knows the mistakes couples make long before they ever enter a courtroom. In Part 2 of my conversation with Jim Sexton, one of the country's most experienced divorce attorneys, we go deep on marriage, divorce, prenups, monogamy, sexual compatibility, dating, choosing the right partner, divorce statistics, and what actually makes relationships last.Jim has represented executives, entrepreneurs, CEOs, athletes, celebrities, and high-net-worth families through some of the most difficult divorces imaginable. After decades on the front lines of family law - and after going through divorce himself - he has developed some fascinating and sometimes controversial views about love, marriage, sex, money, and relationships. We talk about why getting married may be one of the most legally significant decisions you'll ever make, despite most people having almost no idea what they are legally agreeing to.Jim explains why the best divorce lawyer may actually be the lawyer who keeps you out of court, why spending $10,000 fighting over $5,000 makes no sense, and why divorce should eventually be approached more like a business transaction than an emotional battle. We discuss whether prenups are unromantic, whether they actually hold up in court, and why Jim argues that a thoughtfully constructed prenup can actually create greater emotional and financial safety in a marriage. Then we get into some of the most controversial research and observations surrounding sexual history, sexual satisfaction, monogamy, marriage success, and divorce. It's a conversation about how to choose the right person, build a stronger relationship, understand what marriage actually means, and avoid mistakes that can cost you emotionally and financially for years.TIMESTAMPS00:00 — The legal reality of marriage almost nobody understands05:45 — Why a great divorce lawyer may actually keep you OUT of court12:53 — How to find a great divorce attorney without trusting Google rankings18:44 — The “Sopranos strategy” before divorce—and why Jim says it can backfire24:27 — Why Jim Sexton says every first date is basically a sales call29:59 — The fear that stops people from making the move they actually want34:20 — The 3 real reasons people get married41:30 — Who probably should NOT get married46:07 — “Everyone has a prenup” — Jim explains what most couples don't realize51:41 — How long should you date before getting married?59:38 — Do more sexual partners increase the likelihood of divorce?1:07:42 — Jim's controversial definition of successful monogamy1:20:11 — Why divorce rates rise dramatically after the first marriage1:31:12 — Do prenups actually work? In this episode, we sit down with Kate Gandhi, VP of Marketing at Bally's Interactive, to unpack the twists, setbacks, and pivotal moments that shaped her career. From being rejected by her dream graduate scheme at Diageo to building an international career across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, startups, and global brands, Kate shares the lessons she's learned about leadership, confidence, career growth, and navigating uncertainty.
“Please can you help me find a job, here is my CV.” This is the worst way to approach a busy well connected person. In this short episode I unpack a proactive approach to demonstrating your unique skills and attitude by knowing what you want, who and why you and finally providing value to targeted prospective employers or mentors first. It all boils down to knowing yourself, hard work, mindset, creativity, execution and persistence. The same approach used in Seles and Startup Fund raising especially in new industries and markets. Put in the hard work and update me on the progress. Don't contact me if you haven't.Enjoy, good luck !
Please forward this to ONE friend today and tell them to subscribe here.In this episode, I'm speaking with Mher Mardoyan, a career coach who's been helping newcomers to Canada find jobs with a 90%+ success rate. With the rise and rise of AI in job applications, it's beginning to seem like traditional online job applications are a losing game for newcomers to Canada. Because for every job posting, there are thousands of applicants and only a tiny weeny number get called in for interviews. Mher thinks its about 2%.The way out, Mher believes, is the hidden job market. This is where majority of the hiring happens. And the only way to access these opportunities is through networking and referrals.Because people help people they know and trust, not strangers asking for favors. In this conversation, Mher and I chat about his seven-step coaching process. We also explore:* Why applying for jobs should be your last resort, not your first* The importance of celebrating small wins during your job search* His one tip for standing out in today's competitive job market* Why investing in your career pays off faster than waiting for free helpDozie's NotesA few things that stuck with me as I listened through this week's conversation:* Networking is like banking; you first deposit then you withdraw. That someone accepted your connection request on LinkedIn doesn't mean you should ask them if they can help you find a job immediately. I personally think it's cringe. Spend some time investing in the relationship. And in due time, you'll build up enough social credit that allows you ask for help with your job hunt or a referral.* Tell your story. Mher thinks if your story demonstrates how you save employers time, money or increase profit, you'll be in demand. Methinks same too.* Job hunting in today's market is emotionally exhausting. Take breaks. Celebrate small wins. This episode is packed.Max Steinberg starts by breaking down how to actually land your dream job—and it's not what you think. Forget resumes and school names. Leveraging Generative AI in Your Career Search with Jeremy Schifeling Jeremy Schifeling, founder of The Job Insiders and author of Career Coach GPT and Linked: Conquer LinkedIn, Get Your Dream Job, Own Your Future shares his insights on how job seekers can leverage generative AI tools like ChatGPT in the job search process. Jeremy and I have known each other for seven years and recently co-presented a session at the Career Services Employer Alliance Global Conference on how graduate business school career services can leverage generative AI in their work. In this episode, Jeremy returns for a second conversation to discuss how business school students, job seekers, and professionals can use AI to tailor their resumes, cover letters, and interview prep, while staying authentic in their communication. Listen to my first conversation with Jeremy about his book, Linked, from May 2022. Key Takeaways: Get Hands-On with Generative AI: Jeremy emphasizes that AI tools like ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, Gemini and Copilot are easy to use, even for non-technical individuals. By interacting with these platforms, job seekers can quickly familiarize themselves with their capabilities—whether for refining resumes, helping to draft cover letters, or even brainstorming career paths based on personality tests like Myers-Briggs or CliftonStrengths. Crafting Effective Prompts: Jeremy and talk about the importance of specificity in AI prompts as well as using meta prompting techniques. While a generic prompt like "write a cover letter" might yield basic results, being more precise—such as asking for insights into missing keywords or requesting tailored interview questions based on a job description—will lead to better outcomes. He also encourages users to iteratively refine outputs, ensuring the final result feels authentic and personalized. Beyond Job Searching—Building Long-Term Skills: The skills you develop using generative AI tools can extend to developing AI literacy that is rapidly becoming a key asset in many industries. Understanding how to harness these tools for tasks like data analysis or marketing can make professionals more competitive in the long run. Practical AI Tools and Strategies: Role-Playing Interviews with ChatGPT: Use AI to simulate job interviews, ask follow-up questions, and even offer feedback on your responses, preparing you for tough, real-life interview scenarios. Mining Job Descriptions for Insights: Paste multiple job descriptions into AI tools to uncover common skills, which can help you craft a LinkedIn profile that resonates across different career paths. Maintaining Authenticity: While AI can help draft resumes and cover letters, Jeremy advises against over-reliance on AI-generated content. Ensuring your voice comes through is essential, as recruiters are becoming savvy to AI-generated applications. Craft prompts that include your first drafts, or career highlights, feed your final drafts back into the chat so the bot can learn from the changes you make. EPISODE SUMMARY In this episode of Chan With A Plan, Max speaks with Mohammed Kasujee, Career Coach and Founder of MK Career Solutions. Mohammed shares his best advice to help you optimize your LinkedIn profile to either successfully change careers or get your dream job fast. QUOTES “So be very, very wary about disclosing finances or information on your LinkedIn profile that gives away too much information about the company. People can get in trouble for that. So, if there's anything that you feel in doubt, just remove it, especially when it comes to monetary values.” – Mohammed Kasujee “I think most of the time, it's not the job itself. It's what the job is not allowing them to do.” – Mohammed Kasujee “The LinkedIn algorithm, as a whole, favors a complete profile. And a banner is an indication of a complete profile as well. So, if anyone does not have a banner, they should definitely have one.” – Mohammed Kasujee TIMESTAMPS [1:01] Mohammed's journey [04:49] Major obstacles in the way of your career success [07:52] Optimizing your LinkedIn profile [09:34] Major LinkedIn profile areas of focus for recruiters [21:57] Do recruiters look at volunteer experience? Lisa comes on to discuss her insights and strategies on how you can overcome your fears and insecurities when it comes to making a successful career transition. QUOTES “Really it comes down to you trusting your inner being and trusting yourself to make that transition. Imposter syndrome. And either way would have been hard, because being the victim thing would have also been hard, because I wouldn't have made the money, I wouldn't have been successful, I wouldn't have learned a lot of things.” – Lisa Arthur “I try not to let fear stop me from pursuing other avenues. Today I am really excited to share my conversation with a very special guest. He is the embodiment of hard work, resilience, and relentlessness. He is the very proof that in this world, having those traits always wins, no matter what. That winning means, enjoying the process without caring about other people's opinions. That no matter how your odds are from the day you were born, whether it is like in his case with a physical disability that required over 13 surgeries or within extremely humble means, you can always live your dream. Yes, this is a real-life story and not a cliche or fairytale. His name is David Rock, and he is the Executive Creative Director of Vayner Media, which is one of the most successful contemporary media and branding companies whose CEO and Chairman is nonother than Mr. Gary Vaynerchuk. In this very up close and personal interview, David (to many known as “Drock”), shares his inside story of what it took him to land a job with Gary Vee after having worked as a freelance videographer, to now being his right-hand and Director of Creative at Vayner Media. But this is not where it stops for him. As he tells us himself, he is a dreamer at heart. Currently, he has his hands in much bigger projects and claims that at age 31, his work has not even begun yet. So listen in and for those of you who are in the creative department and want to learn about best practices in social media and branding, make sure you listen till the very end.

In this episode, I'm joined by Nadine Baggott and we share our stories from our time as beauty editors on rival magazines. For both of us these roles were dream jobs, and while there were highs, there were most certainly lows. There were also the most ridiculous encounters with A-listers, embarrassing moments and lessons learned. In this very relaxed conversation, recorded at Nadine's house before we inevitably went for Pho, we share the good, the bad and the ugly of our time on magazines. To join the closed Facebook group for the podcast click here >> The Emma Guns Show Forum. To follow me on social media >> Twitter | Instagram.Sign up for my newsletter here >> Newsletter.
