Join me as I talk with Del Howison, the co-owner of Dark Delicacies, the world-renowned book and collectibles store in Burbank dedicated to horror and fantasy that celebrates 30 years as America's home of horror (and is the oldest horror bookstore in Los Angeles.)  Del discusses his career as an author, actor, and bookseller and how a horror superfan grew up to create an oasis for fellow horror fans and bookworms alike, a place that's become an institution that draws authors and filmmakers as well.  Over a thousand authors and filmmakers have given readings and signed books over the past thirty years, and we discuss some of the highlights and what the future holds for Dark Delicacies. I hope you enjoy the show! The first batch of movie reviews for 2023 from Erik Childress and Steve Prokopy arrives with quite the show. 14 reviews in all ranging from some late acclaimed 2022 catch-ups from the international scene (Broker, Saint Omer) and another mystery with Edgar Allan Poe as a participant (The Pale Blue Eye). Erik describes what could be the nuttiest plotline of the new year (The Devil Conspiracy) and Steve looks at a new horror film drawing both ecstatic praise and hatred (Skinamarink). Speaking of the Blair Witch, Joshua Leonard co-writes and co-stars in a comedy about baby mishandling (The Drop) and Gillian Jacobs takes on multiple roles in an anthology from various filmmakers (The Seven Faces of Jane). Stephen Dorff and Emile Hirsch are thieves who didn't get the memo about farmhouses in horror movies (The Price We Pay) and Nicolas Cage is out for revenge in his first released western (The Old Way). The horror continues as the duo look at sex workers and religious extremism (Candy Land), the conflicting screenplay of a rousing pandemic-era slasher (Sick) and if a killer doll that is all the rage is worth the hype (M3GAN). Finally, Gerard Butler crash lands into a war zone (Plane) and Tom Hanks is a very grumpy man with a big heart (A Man Called Otto). 0:00 - Intro 1:52 – Broker 8:10 – The Drop 13:58 – Saint Omer 20:09 – The Devil Conspiracy 28:17 - Skinamarink 37:22 – The Price We Pay 43:08 – The Seven Faces of Jane 51:00 – The Old Way 59:48 – The Pale Blue Eye 1:10:42 - Sick 1:26:00 - Candy Land 1:39:56 - M3GAN 1:54:42 - Plane 2:03:04 - A Man Called Otto 2:18:24 - Outro

What is The Soul? Faces of The Soul – Episode 2

Naturally Happy

Episode 2 of the Seven Faces of the Soul. This episode of the podcast is, from excerpts from a weekend seminar that I did on the Soul's Path. What is the Soul? The Soul is a being - living and vibrant - and it is so much more. It has several specific Faces - seven of them to be very precise. And your Soul is with you from the moment of death to the moment of birth, and all the time in between. And each of these faces comes to you and gives its many gifts to you. Not necessarily by vocally expressing itself but by communicating in their way - through the cracks and crevices of our life, in the silences, in the stillness, in the cherished moments, and in the enchanted times of your life, our Soul communicates all the information we need to know. Sadly, because the Soul is denied in our world and is given such few avenues of communication - because its particular tools have been turned into shams of silliness or of embarrassment - the communication to so many is very difficult. Because of the inbred chauvinism, because of the impact of an arid spirituality, that exists for many only within the confines of religion, it’s messages are missed. They are lost. And people flounder. We flounder in delusion, we flounder in a negative ego that ultimately turns against them... We flounder imprisoned in our own shame, in our own pain, in our own sorrow continuing to punish ourselves, never finding our power and never using it - never finding our talent, never using it. And It certainly does not have to be this way. It was never meant to be this painful. If we can hear the messages of our Soul, so many answers can come. So many new directions can be found and so much pain can be relieved and healed. It is not a panacea, yet there is so much magic if we can learn to listen to our Soul ... if we can know its Faces. In the last episode, I talked about the first three faces of the Soul -the Name, the Power, and the Eternal Youth, which correspond for the early part of our life. This week, I’ll share the remaining four faces of the soul, which are: the Wounding, the Shadow, the Double, the Remain.

What is The Soul? Faces of The Soul – Episode 1 This podcast is, from excerpts from a weekend seminar that I helped facilitate with my guru on the Soul's Path. I am going to break down: what is the soul? The different faces of the soul into two episodes because it’s such a vast subject. So spend the next few episodes on the Soul’s journey - to be exact there are seven faces of the Soul- this week, I’ll take you on stroll to discover the first three faces of the Soul - then next episode join to discover other four remaining faces of the Soul. Far from being some remote, untouchable concept, the Soul journeys with us through out our lives, appearing with us and to us as seven distinct energies – I called it the Seven Faces of the Soul. The first part of a two-part series, which gives you a brief overview of all of them, this episode covers the first three of the Faces, the ones we experience in our childhood. The Faces of the Soul, they have been talked of before, and many of you may know them already, or may know the words, know the names, know the intellectual descriptions of what goes on. Some of you may even have glimpses and clues, and some of you may even have gained communication from your Soul from each of these various faces. The Soul is such a nebulous thing. For most people it is a non-thing. It is a persona non grata, and if you will, that doesn't really seem to have much play in your life. Oh, yes, of course, it has influence, and it certainly will demand reckoning from everyone, whether you will admit you have a Soul or not... But for most of us, the Soul isn't anything more than some sort of nebulous something that is of God, something that cannot be understood...

On today’s episode, I’m joined by the Hitman as we uncover the biggest missing pieces in an online coach’s toolbox.   We dive deep into what we call the Seven Faces of Online Transformation Coaching, and how in order to be an effective, results-producing coach, you need to have the ability to know when/where/how/why you should wear each of the Seven Faces.   The true art of coaching has been lost, and along with ‘base knowledge’ and ‘time & miles’ on the gym floor, the third pillar which is lacking is ‘adaptability’, and that’s where these Seven Faces come in.   On today’s podcast, we’re going to unlock and discuss the Seven Faces, while introducing the new RNT Online Transformation Mastermind we’re launching in July that surrounds this. We ran a highly successful private cohort earlier this year, and we’re now ready to unleash it to the public!   If you’re a coach or trainer, or you’re someone looking to come into our field, you don’t want to miss this episode, the article linked in the show notes, nor the announcement coming on Monday 1st July across our socials. This is a true gamechanger for mastering the art of coaching.   ‘’The emphasiser separates the wheat from the chaff in the coaching industry”   Thanks so much for listening! #45: Disney, Marvel, and the Seven Faces of John Boyega

General Snobbery | Film and Philosophy

Play Episode Listen Later May 28, 2017 61:12

In the image you see, John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) has seven faces. Each one is smaller than the one before. This is an image that Matt made, and ever since that moment, it has baffled both of us. It appears boundlessly significant, and yet, time and time again, we are left with the question: what does it mean?  In today's snob, we delve deeply into these many Boyega faces, contemplating possible meanings ranging a diverse spectrum. We consider the suggestions provided by some of our beloved listeners, such as Amanda Pumpkins' connection to René Magritte's classic painting The Son of Man. What does it mean when the apple becomes a tiny Boyega face?  In a shocking turn of events, Boyega's many faces ultimately leads us to a new chapter of this snobbing endeavor: the felt responsibility to watch every single film of the Marvel Universe, from beginning to end, and snob about them as we go. For we have grown suspicious of Empire Disney and Darth Marvel, and we must learn more of what mysterious signs they are providing. For perhaps only in so doing may we discover the truth behind the layers of Boyega and glimpse the appearance behind the apple.  We intend to approach this mission with the concentration and patience of Tibetan monks creating sand mandalas, like those in the video below. We know that this endeavor will challenge us, and perhaps it will damage our psyches to an irreparable degree. But we must continue the search, and we must discover the truth of Boyega. He may be mankind's last hope.

Habits 2 Goals: The Habit Factor® Podcast with Martin Grunburg | Goal Achievement, Productivity & Success – Simplified

"True nobility isn’t about being better than someone else, it’s about being better than you used to be." Dr. Wayne Dyer Martin tackles this Mind Bullet Monday solo and labels it a bit of a hybrid episode since he bridges concepts and ideas from a couple prior episodes. This episode is on the heels of the synchronicity/serendipity episode where Martin and Henry compare theories on ways to create an increased frequency of such events in our lives.

Martin then adds some of the late, great Dr. Wayne Dyer's thoughts via his bestseller, The Power of Intention. Specifically where Dyer reviews the importance of aligning with the "FACE" of the "Creative" source. In his book, Dr. Dyer spells out the "Seven Faces of Intention" Creativity, Kindness, Love, Beauty, Expansiveness, Abundance and Receptivity and how Dr. Dyer believed deeply that creating alignment / "matching up" with sources "Faces" of energy was essential. Martin then takes the entire process a step further, and perhaps makes it sound/concrete by recommending to the listener that they focus upon and TRACK just ONE "FACE" at a time for four weeks following the habit factor method. This one step would mimic the process Benjamin Franklin used that was recently recounted on the a prior episode where Ben tracked his behaviors (habits) to create VIRTUES! Alright, alright, alright! This is my segment called "Words on Wednesday" picking up with Dr. Dyer's fabulous book: "The Power of Intention" and I'm here to tell you that if you embrace what I am sharing with you and maybe go get the book - not the cd - but the book it will put a whole new perspective on how you interact with people and how you develop into a better person. I know. I have applied these to my life and am astounded at how incredibly more aware I am of my actions with others and myself. Next week will be the first intention and I'll delve into that in more depth.

Host: Robert Price The nineties witnessed an outbreak of "Satanic Panic," with psychologists dredging up false memories of "Satanic ritual abuse" which landed innocent parents in jail and banked the fires of hysteria. It seemed the Salem Witch Trials had returned! But what is Satanism? Are there actually murderous, nihilistic cults sacrificing human lives? Were there? Actual Satanism seems to be much more innocent, despite a name which invites negative publicity. In this respect Satanism is not unlike atheism. A "dirty word," it seeks to be a positive force. But how can that be if Satanists worship the devil? The Church of Satan, founded in 1966 by Anton LaVey, was a hedonistic and theatrical form of religious humanism, a cult of campy schtick. But from it emerged, in 1975, the Temple of Set, founded by Michael Aquino. This new sect describes itself as Neo-Platonic and reveres Set, an ancient deity understood as a force of will, challenge, and self-development. This religion defies most stereotypes, and thus ought to be of special interest to rationalists, skeptics, and humanists who are weary of debating standard-brand Christian theism. Don Webb, weird fiction author and High Priest of the Temple of Set, is our guest this week. Join host Robert Price as he interrogates this remarkable figure. How do you play Devil's Advocate with a guy who has been an active practitioner of the Left Handed Path of magic for three decades? Some of Don's fiction is available in the collection When They Came. Nonfiction books include Seven Faces of Darkness and Uncle Setnakt's Essential Guide to the Left Hand Path. Don't miss an unparalleled opportunity to learn the inside story of real Satanism, as opposed to tabloid hysteria.
