POPULARITY
In this episode, we uncover a remarkable story hidden in plain sight: Ronald Wayne, the often-overlooked third co-founder of Apple. While Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak achieved legendary status, Wayne's name is hardly mentioned in the tech world—even though he helped draft Apple's original partnership agreement and designed its first logo. After just twelve days, he chose to walk away from his 10% stake in Apple for a mere $800, a decision that would come to symbolize both the enormity of risk and the unpredictability of life. I share how my son, Drew, and I stumbled upon Wayne at an afterparty during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). This unexpected meeting led to an eye-opening conversation about everything from historical shifts in monetary policy to Wayne's current passion for investing in silver. Drawing on Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations, he argues that today's fiat currencies are on shaky ground and sees silver as a tangible asset that may protect wealth when paper money loses its luster. Throughout our chat, Wayne's calm conviction and life experiences shine through. He exemplifies the power of informed decision-making, a willingness to pivot when necessary, and an unwavering commitment to charting one's own course. Despite leaving behind what could have been billions, he found fulfillment in engineering pursuits and personal independence. Tune in to hear my reflections on Wayne's journey and the lessons we can all draw from his story. If you're curious about his detailed thoughts on the future of money, stick around for the recorded audio of our conversation with Ronald Wayne himself. It may be a bit difficult to hear at times, but it's worth the listen if you want to glean insights from one of Apple's most intriguing figures.
In this insightful sermon, Lane Brown explores the profound metaphor of believers as "living stones" built upon Jesus, the Cornerstone, as depicted in 1 Peter 2. Drawing parallels to the story of Ronald Wayne, an original co-founder of Apple who sold his shares prematurely, Brown emphasizes the importance of recognizing and embracing our divine purpose. He illustrates how, like ancient builders who meticulously selected stones for their structures, God chooses each of us to be integral parts of His spiritual house. By aligning our lives with Christ, we find stability and fulfillment, becoming a "royal priesthood" tasked with reflecting God's love and light to the world. This message encourages us to build our lives on the unshakable foundation of Jesus and to actively participate in His mission. #LivingStones #Cornerstone #1Peter2 #DivinePurpose #SpiritualFoundation #ChristianFaith #GodsPlan #RoyalPriesthood #FaithJourney #BiblicalTeaching

Ronald Wayne sold his 10% stake in Apple to Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak on 12th April, 1976 - having been a co-founder of the company just 11 days earlier. He received back his initial investment of $800, which would now be worth over $1 billion. However, despite this often being cited as one of the worst business decisions in history, Wayne maintains that he made the right decision - because, as the ‘adult in the room', his personal assets had been on the line had the burgeoning computer company gone into administration. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explore Wayne's suggestion that he would have become the ‘richest man in the cemetery' had he stayed on-board; check out his original logo - which looks more like a woodcut than an iconic brand design; and reveal a further disastrous financial calculation he made after Apple became a household name… Further Reading: • ‘Apple at 40: The forgotten founder who gave it all away' (BBC News, 2016): https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-35940300 • ‘Apple's lost founder: Jobs, Woz and Wayne' (The Mercury News, 2010): https://www.mercurynews.com/2010/06/02/apples-lost-founder-jobs-woz-and-wayne/ • ‘Meet Ronald Wayne, The Forgotten Third Co-Founder Of Apple' (Inside Tech, 2017): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWuCPsnWWig Love the show? Ever heard of Ronald Wayne? Not surprising. But he was one of the co-founders of a little know computer company (in 1976) called "Apple". It was Wayne who drew up the first partnership agreement, wrote the Apple I manual and even drew the logo. BUT he sold the his 10% share for $1,500 ... today, that would be $55 billion. You read that right. The moral of the story: there is such a thing as a cost of lost opportunity, and for the disciple, there is no "gamble" with our obedience - only the profit that comes from God's pleasure. The Israelites were told to get ready and MOVE ... there comes a time when YOU must MOVE - no more planning, time for preparation is over ... it's time to GO! If you have your Bibles, let’s open them, please, to the book of Genesis for a moment. The book of Genesis. Genesis 13. And here’s a little bit of the story. This is Lot. He is the one where in the New Testament it says, “Remember Lot’s wife. He’s the one who was raised by his uncle Abraham because his father had died. Lot’s father had died. And so, they were in business. They had herdsmen, and somehow Lot’s herdsmen, his workers, were not getting along with Abraham’s workers. Well, all of a sudden, instead of working that thing out, straightening some workers out, they decided, well, let’s depart from each other. Let’s split. Let’s one of us move. And God never told him to do that. You’ll find that people in the Bible that moved, there were two reasons: God told someone to move, one, if they were starting a nation. Okay, probably none of us. And then second, if they were like the Apostle Paul or a missionary, and they were starting a church. And so that’s about the only two times you see that in the Bible. And so, here’s a Lot. He ends up moving for money. It says that in Genesis 13:10 “And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.” You remember the story about these very wicked cities, Sodom and Gomorrah. God ended up burning the cities up. He sent fire and brimstone. But notice before Lot even moved in there, it started small. He made a decision. Verse 11. Genesis 13:11 “Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east…” East is always a direction in the Bible of trouble. “…and they separated themselves the one from the other.” The tragedy did not happen all of a sudden. Lot said, “I’m heading this way. I mean it looks like that’s where the better planes are.” He never deferred to his uncle who raised him. Lot was very selfish when he made that decision. Ten years later, he’s the welcoming committee in the most wicked city ever mentioned in the Bible. It was a little bit at a time. Just a little shift. A little change. A little moving. A little compromise. His daughters married evil people from that town. His daughters were burned up by the fire and brimstone. His wife was told not to look back. She did. She was turned to a pillar of salt. It was just a terrible tragedy. But that all started with a decision. I’m going to speak today on making proper decisions. God has a plan for all of our lives. We call it the will of God. God really has many wills. He wills or decides what he wants for us to the minutest detail—who we marry, our vocation. And God knows what plan would make us the most fulfilled and give Him the most glory. Sometimes, we think if we surrender to do God’s plan, we’re going to be eating worms and in Africa somewhere under a totem pole. No, you’ll be eating crickets under a totem pole. No, no, no, not really. Let’s pray, and then we’ll talk some about this. Father, bless this time that we have. Help us to make wise decisions. In Jesus’ name, Amen. At the end of our life, we will simply be the culmination of all the decisions we made. Today, if you passed any homeless people, maybe they were living in a tent or maybe holding up a little cardboard sign with writing on it. Maybe they were unkempt. Some of that was from decisions made a long time ago. We can choose our decisions. We cannot choose the repercussions of those decisions. I was researching some for this message and trying to think of in history, the worst historic decisions ever made. I think of the Titanic. They probably never should have sailed. There was a lot of pride. Not enough lifeboats, the wrong person keeping watch, information not shared, didn’t cry out for help in time, unused lifeboats. Once the ship went down, there were still some lifeboats that never even were used. Terrible. A lot of wrong decisions. Here’s one, the city of Troy. They saw this great big wooden horse outside of the city and said, “What a nice gift!” And what a poor decision! They brought it in, and it was filled with enemies who came out and burned their city down. I think of the painting. Some of you would know the name, some of you wouldn’t—The Scream by Edvard Munch. There was a granddaughter who was doing some work for a lady, and she said, “I don’t have much to pay you. I can give you a bottle of wine, or I got this old painting.” The girl took the bottle of wine. The old painting was that famous picture. You’ve seen it. It’s kind of in watercolors of this person screaming. That painting was worth millions of dollars. The person took the bottle of wine. What a poor choice. I think of. Yahoo, the company. They were offered to buy another smaller company for 1 million dollars and they said, “No, it’s not worth it.” It was called Google. I think of a man by the name of Ronald Wayne. He bought 10% stock in this little upstart company just getting going. And after eight months he said, “This isn’t going anywhere.” So he sold his 10% to the other two partners for $800. The other two partners were named Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak in 1978. His shares of that stock would right now be worth 80 billion dollars. What a poor choice. There was a man who had long, long hair. He was a general named General Custer. He was going to “straighten out” some Indians that were causing some problems at the Little Bighorn. He had four heavy guns. These new guns were called Gatlin guns, kind of like a crank-it-out machine gun. You’ve heard or saw the movie? And he said, “These are too heavy. Why would we need these in this little skirmish with the Indians?” What a decision he made, as later on they called him General Pin Cushion with all the arrows that were in him. I’m going to give several observations about decisions. Number one, make most of your big decisions in advance. The Bible says in Daniel 1:8, as young Daniel was leaving as a slave, he was leaving Israel to be brought to Babylon. It says, “and Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself.” So, as he was traveling to Babylon, he made some decisions in his heart in advance.
“If there is a Golaith in front of you, that means there is a David inside of you.” - Carlos Rodriguez This is Entrepreneurs of Faith, a Sunday episode of Monetization Nation. I'm Nathan Gwilliam, your host. In today's episode, we're going to discuss the amazing underdog story of David and Goliath how entrepreneurs can learn from David to conquer their Goliaths. The Story of David and Goliath 1 Samuel chapter 17 in the Bible tells the story of David's victory over Goliath. In the Valley of Elah during the year 1063 B.C., two armies faced each other. On one side was the army of the Philistines and on the other King Saul's Israelite army. Though the armies were somewhat evenly matched in the number of soldiers and skill, the Philistines had one thing that Saul's army didn't: iron. The Philistines had been able to keep their knowledge of smelting and fashioning iron into formidable weapons of war a secret. Iron was far superior to the brass weapons of King Saul's army. During this time, it was common for champions to challenge others from the opposing forces to single combat. In fact, there had been several battles decided by individual combat. One of the champions of the Philistines was a man named Goliath of Gath. His height was six cubits and a span, which is about nine feet tall. “He had a helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail . . . And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders. And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him.” (KJV 1 Samuel 17:5-7) Needless to say, Goliath was a fearsome man. Twice per day for 40 days, he called out to the armies of Saul, saying, “Choose you a man for you and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and to kill me, then will we be your servants: but if I prevail against him, and kill him, then shall ye be our servants, and serve us.” (KJV 1 Samuel 17:8-9) Saul, the King of Israel, and the Israelite army were afraid and did not accept Goliath's challenge. However, there was one who wasn't afraid. The young shepherd David told Saul he would fight Goliath as he had fought lions and bears that had threatened his flock. Saul offered David his armor, but David refused. David prepared for battle by finding five smooth stones and taking them and his sling with him to meet Goliath. Goliath taunted and mocked David. David said to Goliath, “Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee.” (KJV 1 Samuel 17:45-46) “When the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.” (KJV 1 Samuel 17:48-50) Then, the Philistine army turned and ran. The Israelite army pursued and won the battle. Force Multipliers Like David facing Goliath, entrepreneurs also constantly face many challenges and obstacles. The Philistine army had leveraged the tectonic shift of iron, which gave them a huge competitive advantage. I don't have any experience with the military, But, I have been told that when one army has a competitive advantage over the other army, that competitive advantage is often called a “force multiplier.” For example, during the war with Iraq, the U.S. army had many force multipliers, such as superior aircraft, missiles, night vision, and a superior missile defense system. These force multipliers allowed the U.S. army to have a lot more force for each soldier engaged in that battle. Many of these force multipliers, such as advanced missiles and missile defense systems, could probably also be considered tectonic shifts in modern warfare. Because Israel had not leveraged that tectonic shift to iron like the Philistines, they were in a precarious situation. Compete with Our Strengths Against Their Weaknesses Often entrepreneurs are in a similar situation where one of our competitors has a huge competitive advantage over us. The competitor may have been in business a lot longer. They may have a lot more revenue, a much larger team, a bigger office, more customers, huge trade show booths, etc. They may have even leveraged a tectonic shift before us or may have purchased a competitor who effectively leveraged a tectonic shift. We may look at this competitor and feel that there is no way we can beat them because of their size and resources. That fear is half true. It is true we cannot beat them . . . at their own game. If our competitors have a large advantage, then we should not take them on where they have a competitive advantage. We must find their weakness and figure out how to attack them there. How did David beat Goliath? It is true that Goliath had an enormous competitive advantage in his size and strength and the quality and size of his sword and armor. If David tried to fight him strength against strength, or sword and armor against sword and armor, David's chance of winning would have been very low. Of course, that is not taking into account the power of God, who can do all things and is the ultimate competitive advantage. God gave David a different idea than fighting strength against strength and sword against sword. Instead, David realized that Goliah's competitive advantage, his force multiplier of iron, also had a weakness. It was very heavy, especially the amount of armor it takes to cover a nine-foot man. David knew that Goliath would not be able to move quickly and by choosing to wear no armor and to carry no sword, David could have a competitive advantage with speed. David could easily keep his distance from Goliath and sling stones at him, safe from that long iron sword. By not trying to match up to his weakness against Goliath's strengths, David was able to focus matching up his strengths—speed, a sling, and stones—against Goliath's weakness—his lack of mobility. Like David, sometimes we need to find unique ways to overcome those obstacles. Like David, it is generally best not to match our weaknesses against the strengths of our opponents. Instead, we need to find the weakness of our competitors and develop a strength we can use to attack them. David's sling and stones might even be seen as his own tectonic shift in warfare, keeping distance from a competitor and shooting projectiles at them. That sounds similar to a strategy that helped the U.S. colonists win the Revolutionary War. David could not beat Goliath doing the same thing Goliath was doing. David had to find and leverage a different tectonic shift. The same thing is true in business. When we face something like larger competitors with a lot more resources, we often cannot use the same strategies they are using to dominate. If we do, we will probably lose. Instead, we have to find our tectonic shift, something that our competitors aren't doing yet or aren't doing well. Modern Day Davids and Goliaths Malcolm Gladwell has a book about this called David and Goliath: Underdogs, Misfits, and the Art of Battling Giants. In an interview about the book, Gladwell said, “This is the classic story of the business world. The very same thing that appears to make a company so formidable—its size, its resources—serves as stumbling blocks when they're forced to respond to a situation where the rules are changing, and where nimbleness, and flexibility, and adaptability are better attributes. Which is the story of David and Goliath, right? David had nimbleness. He changed the rules. He brought in the superior of technology.” Here are a few stories of companies that started out as underdogs, but who were able to succeed through innovation and leveraging tectonic shifts. Apple Apple was started in 1976, by college dropouts Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, who sold his share of the company for $800 three months later. Michael Dell, CEO of Dell, was skeptical about the company. He “once said that if he owned Apple he would shut down the company and give shareholders their money back.” (Source: Investopedia.com) Jobs proved him wrong though. He said, "It's only us and Dell making money. They're making money because they're Walmart, we're making it because we're innovating." (Source: Investopedia.com) Apple found success because they didn't do exactly what Dell was doing. As Jobs said, they innovated, finding and leveraging the tectonic shifts that worked for their company. “Since 1976, Apple has grown into the multinational technology mogul that we know today. Apple is now the world's largest information technology company by revenue and the world's third-largest mobile phone manufacturer.” (Source: Medium.com) Netflix Before Netflix dominated the streaming arena, it was a DVD-rental-by-mail company. Its biggest competitor was Blockbuster. “In 2000, Netflix executives met with Blockbuster and offered to sell the company for $50 million, which Blockbuster refused.” (Source: Investopedia.com) Blockbuster has since filed for bankruptcy and shuttered 9,000 stores (Source: Medium.com). Now, Netflix has “193 million paid subscribers in more than 190 countries.” (Source: Investopedia.com) Home Depot Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank were fired from Handy Dan, “one of America's leading home improvement retailer chains.” (Source: Medium.com) They decided to use this as an opportunity to start their own company. They opened Home Depot in 1981, creating “one-stop shopping for the do-it-yourself customer.” (Source: Investopedia.com) Home Depot now has more than 2,200 stores in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico (Source: corporate.homedepot.com). Being Small and Nimble is a Competitive Advantage “The big companies we compete against are like Goliath, large and lumbering, slow to change. Can we be David, quick and noble, willing to think outside the box, and find a new and disruptive way to solve the most important problem.” (Source: Glenn Tulman in Forbes) Choose an Unconventional Strategy Ian Brookes in From the Lighthouse said, “The political scientist Ivan Arreguín-Toft looked at every war fought in the past 200 years between strong and weak combatants. The Goliaths, he found, won in 71.5% of the cases. That is a remarkable fact, especially when the result is in the context of the sample of conflicts analyzed was where one side was at least ten times as powerful in terms of armed might and population as its opponent – even in those lopsided contests, the underdog won almost a third of the time. Why, what happened? Simply, the underdogs acknowledged their weaknesses and chose an unconventional strategy. In those cases, David's winning percentage went from 28.5% to 63.6%. When underdogs choose not to play by Goliath's rules, they win, Arreguín-Toft concluded.” Key Takeaways Here are some of my key takeaways from this episode: David changed the rules in his battle with Goliath and used the sling and stone as a tectonic shift to give himself a competitive advantage and remove Golaith's advantage. Like David, we can leverage tectonic shifts to give ourselves the advantage over much larger competitors. Don't match our weaknesses up against our competitor's strengths. Instead figure a way to develop strength and use it to attack the competitor's weakness, like David used his nimbleness to compete against the giant's inability to move quickly in the heavy iron armor. David was nimble and could adapt to his surroundings faster than Goliath. Being nimble and moving quickly is often a competitive advantage of small companies. Often small companies can adapt to changes in the world faster than large ones. Don't try to do things the same way as our larger competitors. Find an unconventional way to more effectively accomplish the most important goals. Have you ever heard of a guy named Ronald Wayne? Probably not. On April 1, 1976 he helped start a little company with a guy named Steve Jobs. You know that name. The company was called Apple. His job was to oversee mechanical engineering and documentation, all in exchange for a 10 percent stake in the business. 12 days later, he became nervous about the debt the new company had taken on and sold his 10% stake in the company for $800. CNBC estimates that his 10% share today would be worth more than $80 billion dollars.Well, that is a colossal mistake, and while it would be easy to think of Ronald Wayne as a failure, we all know what failure feels like. We fail in different ways, but none of us are strangers to failure. Failure often produces a lot of negative feelings and emotions. Maybe you have battled rejection, guilt, shame, reproach, and fear. Maybe you have heard the lies of Satan telling you that you will never get over this. You will never move forward.Micah 7:8 - “Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.”What does God want you to do after failure? He wants you to get back up.Failure doesn't mean you have blown everything. It means you have some hard lessons to learn. It doesn't mean you are a permanent loser. It means you aren't as smart as you thought you were.It doesn't mean you should give up. It means you need the Lord to show you the next step.It doesn't mean that God has abandoned you. It means that God a better plan.I've noticed there are two limiting beliefs that keep people from being restored to God.1.Pride – Without humility restoration is not possible. Pride says I'm not going to admit I did anything wrong. Pride says I don't want anyone to know I did anything wrong. Pride says it's someone else's fault. Pride refuses to take responsibility. 2.I will never get over my mistake – You go to bed thinking of your failure. You wake up in the morning thinking of your failure. You are trapped in the past and have come to believe you can never move forward. You truly question whether God could love you and forgive you. Your limited belief system has robbed you of a better future in God.Somebody listening needs to hear these words: God has a way of bringing things back from failure. As long as you have breath, you have a chance! It may feel like the world is finished with you, but God is not. Maybe you failed, but you're not a failure. You made a mistake, but you are not a mistake.Maybe today you feel paralyzed by your failure. Here's the path forward.Restoration always begins with confession and repentance.Confessing our sin means to see it as God sees it. It means to agree with God that our sin is an act of sinful rebellion. I was asked one time, “Pastor Loren how do I know if I have truly repented?” This is important because a lot of people misunderstand repentance. When a person repents they….-Stop making excuses-Understand that all sin is a rebellion against God-They reveal sorrow for the sinful act, not simply a sorrow for the consequence.-Genuinely want to change-They are broken and humbleAsk for forgiveness. Receive forgiveness. The only reason we are able to be forgiven and restored is because Jesus died on the cross for our sins. His death pays the way. It offers us hope, restoration, and transformed life, and a relationship with God. Today's Challenge: If you have failed, come to Jesus today and be restored. Your failure doesn't have to be final.
We all experience negative emotions, but when it cripples you and stops you from doing what you know you should, there's a problem. And that's where I found myself last week. In this episode, I invite you to go through a process with me, as I unravel my most recent spate of fear and anxiety. We look at the reasons we worry and the effect it can have on us. My hope is that by getting to the root of your fear, you can manage it as opposed to it controlling you.I also borrow life lessons from the life of Ronald Wayne, co-founder of Apple, who famously sold his share of the company for a paltry amount, 12 days after the company was formed. Finally, we learn some traits and behaviour of that emotion, including the fact that it loses its power when you take action. Key takeaways:1. Don't let fear make decisions for you2. Don't idolise past failures3. Don't idolise current circumstances4. Experience creates a belief, which affects our behaviour. References:Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Deuteronomy 31:8For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Apple was founded on this date in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, who later sold his stock for about $2,000.
In cambio...

On the show this week @erfon / @bst3r / @lkahney Apple’s cryptic invitation confirms September 12 event https://www.cultofmac.com/500056/apples-cryptic-invitation-confirms-september-12-event/ After months of anticipation and a flurry of rumors, Apple finally sent out media invites to its big iPhone 8 event today, welcoming the press to come to Apple Park for the big date. Apple’s keynote is set for September 12, which is in line with previous rumors that circled the second Tuesday of September as time when the keynote would take place. The event will take place in the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park. Apple is expected to present three new iPhones on stage: the iPhone 7s, iPhone 7s Plus and the premium iPhone 8 models. Other products that could make an appearance include a new Apple TV with 4K video support as well as the Apple Watch Series 3 with LTE. Apple Inc. plans to transform the way people use its next high-end iPhone https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-08-30/how-apple-plans-to-change-the-way-you-use-the-next-iphone Without a Home button, here’s how the new iPhone 8 UI will work https://www.cultofmac.com/499778/without-home-button-heres-new-iphone-8-ui-will-work/ Across the bottom of the screen there’s a thin, software bar in lieu of the home button. A user can drag it up to the middle of the screen to open the phone. When inside an app, a similar gesture starts multitasking. From here, users can continue to flick upwards to close the app and go back to the home screen. The new model’s overall size will be similar to that of the iPhone 7, but it will include an OLED screen that is slightly larger than the one on the iPhone 7 Plus (5.5-inches) The new screen is rounded on the corners, while current iPhone screens have square corners. The power button on the right side of phone is longer so it is easier to press while holding the device in one hand, according to the images and the people. The phone will still have six vertical rows of apps, showing 24 icons on each page, excluding the dock, a grey bar at the bottom that houses commonly used apps. The dock is redesigned with a new interface similar to the one on the iPad version of iOS 11 Apple also plans to include a stainless steel band around the phone which the glass curves into iPhone 8 inductive charging may be a wee bit slow BH https://www.cultofmac.com/499496/iphone-8-inductive-charging-may-wee-bit-slow/ According to the latest rumor out of Asia, Apple will use an older standard for its inductive charging feature which means recharging could take longer than expected. All three new iPhone models are expected to pick up the inductive charging feature this fall. Instead of using the full 15 watts of power supported by the Qi Ver. 1.2 standard, Macotakara claims Apple’s tech will only draw 7.5 watts. Every time I’ve used inductive charging, it’s been slooooooow Today in Apple history: Rainbow Apple logo gets a modern overhaul LK https://www.cultofmac.com/498704/rainbow-apple-logo/ August 27, 1999: Apple replaces the striped, multicolored logo it used since 1977 with a new single-color version. Apple’s first corporate logo was actually not the memorable “bitten apple” logo at all. A riff on a Victorian woodcut, it portrayed Sir Isaac Newton sitting beneath a tree with a solitary apple dangling over his head. A quotation from William Wordsworth’s The Prelude ran around the image’s border: “A mind forever wandering through strange seas of thought, alone.” It was created by long lost Apple co-founder Ronald Wayne. After less than a year, Apple replaced that logo with the bitten Apple version we have today. Designed by 29-year-old Rob Janoff, it coincided with the debut of the Apple II at the West Coast Computer Faire, which marked Apple’s graduation from a small startup to a serious business Jobs gave Janoff — who does not receive any royalties for his design — two directions for the Apple logo. 1) Don’t make it cute. And 2) Find some way to visually incorporate the Apple II’s revolutionary 16-color display, which was the first PC to include a color display. The “Glass” themed logo was the next evolution for the logo and was featured on the first ever iMac. The bondi blue iMac looked ridiculous with a rainbow logo, and needed something fresh Today, the company uses a more modernized flat monochromatic logo. The logo comes mainly in 3 colors; silver, white and black. The bite According to Rob Janoff, the bite on the Apple logo was to really let people know that it was an apple and not a cherry. The bite also played along with the computer buffs at that time because it had a similar sound off to the word ‘byte’, a unit of digital information in computing and telecommunication. It’s April 12, 1976: Apple’s third co-founder, a former Atari colleague of Steve Wozniak’s named Ron Wayne, is cashing in his 10% of Apple shares for $800. Hell of a nice guy. Drew Apple’s original logo. Wayne also wrote up the first contract in Apple’s history, solidifying what all three co-founders would do. Wozniak was to be in charge of electrical engineering, Jobs was responsible for marketing, and Wayne would oversee mechanical engineering and documentation. “I was 40 and these kids were in their 20s,” Wayne told Cult of Mac, referring to Wozniak and Steve Jobs. “They were whirlwinds — it was like having a tiger by the tail. If I had stayed with Apple I probably would have wound up the richest man in the cemetery.” “He was a very focused fellow,” Wayne told me. “You never wanted to be between him and where he wanted to go, or you’d find footprints on your forehead. To put it simply, if you had your choice between Steve Jobs and an ice cube, you’d nuzzle up to the ice cube for warmth. But that’s what it took for him to turn Apple into what it became.” When asked about passing on Apple, he said: Just pick yourself up and move on. I didn’t want to waste my tomorrows bemoaning my yesterdays. Today, Ronald Wayne resides in a $150,000 house in Pahrump, Nevada, a unincorporated town about 16 miles west of Las Vegas. Aged 80, he lives on his Social Security checks and money made selling rare coins and stamps over the Internet.

On the show this week @erfon / @bst3r / @lkahney Intro: A young Jony Ive on the 20th Anniversary Mac https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeUs8sDcYO8 ‘iPhone Edition’ could have rear-facing Touch ID sensor http://www.cultofmac.com/473949/473949/ A (somewhat sketchy) new report claims that the tenth anniversary iPhone, commonly referred to as the iPhone 8, will instead by called the iPhone Edition. In addition, it suggests that the major form factor redesign that’s been reported on may turn out to be less drastic than some are imagining — although changes will include features like a rear-mounted Touch ID sensor. According to the report, which is accompanied by renders showing the design, the iPhone Edition won’t feature a Touch ID sensor embedded beneath the display, but rather a fingerprint scanner on the rear of the device. It also won’t come with the glass back plate, but will instead stick to having a metal back plate as the result of glass’ tendency to shatter when dropped Does Apple trademark filing mean PowerBook is coming back? http://www.cultofmac.com/473989/apple-trademark-filing-mean-powerbook-coming-back/ A couple of news outlets are flipping their lid over the news that Apple has filed a new worldwide trademark for the word “PowerBook,” the name of Apple’s pre-MacBook laptop series, which ran from 1991 until 2006. In fact, a lot of Apple’s trademarks are about stopping its assets falling into other company’s hands — as happened when rival watchmaker Swatch decided to trademark Steve Jobs’ iconic “One more thing” catchphrase, shortly after Apple began competing with it in the watch business. Swiss watchmaker hits back at Apple by trademarking ‘One more thing’ http://www.cultofmac.com/385873/swiss-watchmaker-hits-back-at-apple-by-trademarking-one-more-thing/ This isn’t the first time Apple has had people try to pilfer its well-known “One more thing” phrase. At the launch of Apple ripoff artist Xiaomi’ Mi 4 smartphone, CEO Lei Jun “borrowed” Apple’s tagline while also wearing a black top and blue jeans. The trademark was registered in Germany in May, but was granted in 2015. It was originally a quotation by Jobs of Peter Falk’s Columbo character “Stay hungry, stay foolish” - Whole Earth Catalog, a magazine Steve Jobs loved. 20th Anniversary Mac https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twentieth_Anniversary_Macintosh one of the first Macs to be designed by Jony Ive, and it paved the way for the vertical design of computer that forms today's iMacIt looked like a movie prop. The beautiful machine every 90s CEO would covet. April 1, 1996 marked 20 years since the day that Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne came together to form Apple Computer, and they decided to release the 20th Anniversary Mac to celebrate this momentous occasion. It featured a a TV/FM tuner, an S-Video input card, and a custom-made Bose sound system including two "Jewel” speakers, and a subwoofer built into the externally located power supply "base unit”. Upon unveiling, the TAM was predicted to cost US$9,000, which would include a direct-to-door concierge delivery service. At release the price was reduced to $7,499. Problem was, it similar performance as the PowerMac 6500, a machine costing just $2,999. In the middle of its sales' lifespan Apple dropped the price further to around US$3,500, and finally upon discontinuation in March 1998 the price was set to US$1,995. Customers who paid full price for the TAM, and then complained to Apple when the price was so drastically cut, were offered a free high-end Powerbook as compensation. TimeBand It's hard to imagine, but there was actually a time when the Apple freely shared its concepts with the world. In 1991, under the leadership of John Scully, Apple shared a bunch of design concepts with a Japanese magazine called Axis. One of the strange products included in the spread was a wearable wrist computer called TimeBand. Like an iPad mini living on your wrist! We're baaaaack! Comedian Nate Craig (Eggshell) joins the guys in studio to talk about how much Darth Vader we actually got in the original Star Wars, the insane amount of people that watch esports, the sad ballad of Apple co-founder Ronald Wayne, and more.
Heron hopes he offended someone but neither of them can remember what he said. Tom clearly doesn't like Australians. He hates everyone. Get used to it. What does a regular day look like in a post-Stonean world? Tom floats a flier and they discuss where the margins are in Bitcoins. Do you know the history of Apple Computer? Do you know who Ronald Wayne is? He has somehow inserted himself into computer history after about third years in obscurity. Wikipedia is like the cub scouts. Heron wants monks. When should you be a language monkey? Tom asks about the puppies. Tom wonders what the eagle monologue would be.

Schweiz har beställt JAS-plan från Sverige. Men om vi bara kan sälja vapen till andra länder som också saknar erfarenhet av krig - borde vi då inte get out of the vapen business? /// Reseracher-Gunnar presenterar dom konstigaste vapennamnen.

The post OMT interviewt Ron Wayne, Apple’s vergeten oprichter appeared first on One More Thing.
