Once again, the Mariners’ offense sputtered behind a great outing from Logan Gilbert. Bump and Stacy recap the M’s tough loss to the Red Sox and talk about what the offense needs to do to bounce back. They talk about MLB All-Star voting, the NBA Finals, and more in Headline Rewrites. They talk about Jeff Passan’s comments on the Mariners, Cal Raleigh being the face of the franchise, and more. And they talk about Jerry Dipoto’s comments on MLB Network yesterday.
Off a stellar start in a Red Sox walk-off, Garrett Crochet joined Will Flemming and Sean McDonough about motoring through his outing, his mindset after giving up the game-tying home run to Aaron Judge in the 9th, and his first taste of Red Sox-Yankees at Fenway Park.
For the love of Omar Moreno and everything holy, why can't the Pirates give Paul Skenes any support? The Bucs ace gave up one run and three hits, but. the Pittsburgh bats were made of balsa wood as the team drops the series opener with Houston by the score of 3-0. Mike Johnson, Beau Morgan, and Ali Mac continue to recap and react to the Atlanta Braves splitting their double-header with the Philadelphia Phillies yesterday, and talk about how the Braves' bats had a huge game in the second game of their double-header with the Phillies yesterday giving Chris Sale plenty of run support to help him get the win in the same game where he became the fastest pitcher to reach 2,500 strikeouts.

Hour 3 with Bob Pompeani and Joe Starkey: Dan went off on the Pirates Monday night for having a losing record in Paul Skenes' starts. The Pirates don't need a top five offense, but an offense that will give their good starting pitching run support. Poni is reporting the Steelers will play the Detroit Lions in Week 16. Mike Tomlin spoke on how important the Ireland game is to the Rooney family and what it would have meant to Dan Rooney. Should Austin apply for Big Brother?
The Pirates don't need a top five offense, but an offense that will give their good starting pitching run support. Steelers-Jets is rumored to be the week 1 game! Paul Skenes is trying to pitch deeper into games and sometimes that means not as many strikeouts per start. Dan doesn't think Pete Rose or Shoeless Joe Jackson should be allowed to be voted in.
Mike Johnson, Beau Morgan, and Ali Mac continue to recap and react to the Atlanta Braves losing their series finale against the Colorado Rockies yesterday due to the bats going cold even though Chris Sale had a good start on the mound.
Dukes and Bell continue with some more thoughts on Kirk Cousins reporting to Falcons' voluntary workouts and discuss what they believe may have led to the veteran QB deciding to report amid all of the controversy surrounding the potential of the Falcons trading him, which he made clear he wanted earlier this season. They then get into their daily downloads and react to the Braves win over the Cardinals and credit Spencer Schwellenbach being able to bounce back from his last outing against the Blue Jays and their offense starting to get hits in the right moments with runners in scoring position.
The Braves are back home this weekend, against 2 sub .500 teams, and they have to win both series to keep their home winning record afloat. This weekend will be a good one for Chris Sale to gain his first win of the season, but he may not be able to rely on the offense too much, so a stellar performance may be required.
Recap of the game.
The Atlanta Braves came out swinging yesterday and dominated the San Francisco Giants to win their third-straight. The Morning Shift discussed the game and how much better the team has been playing as of late.

Jake Irvin was excellent on Tuesday night in Atlanta, but the Nats were shutout 2-0. Mark & Al begin with Irvin who struck out a career high ten batters in six innings of work. This game continued a season long pattern of Irvin not getting a lot of support from his offense. Should he have returned to the mound for the 7th after he through 90 pitches? (12:00) Max Fried was also superb as he tossed eight scoreless frames. The Nationals continued making costly outs on the bases, including CJ Abrams getting doubled off to stymie a 1st inning rally. Jesse Winker also was picked off and it seems to be a daily occurrence for the team. (24:00) James Wood was placed on the 7-day IL due to right hamstring tightness. Wood has not played since he was lifted in the middle of Rochester's game on Thursday night. Will Wood make it to D.C. before the All Star Break? (27:00) Victor Robles has not yet been claimed on waivers after being DFA'd by Washington on Monday. If someone else does pick him up, will it be in the minors? Learn more about your ad choices. Brenden Schaeffer discusses the Cardinals' 12-5 loss to the Brewers on Saturday at Busch Stadium (4/20/24) as Miles Mikolas had another start in which he was unable to get through five innings. Mikolas allowed three home runs to the Milwaukee lineup, wasting a rare example of quality run support provided by the Cardinal offense. The bullpen was rough, too, as the Cardinals dropped the second straight game to a division rival that too many folks might have been overlooking before the year began... Just like how the 1990s produced hundreds of alternative bands signed to major labels that barely made a dent in radio, MTV, or Billboard, the 80s had their fair share of obscure and forgotten acts of might-have-beens. Those rock bands that straddled the line between the two decades often suffered the worst, coming in at the tail end of hair/glam rock dominance into the emergent alternative and college rock scene ready to explode. Phantom Blue is a perfect example of this interesting time, a band whose 1989 debut is more in line with 80s metal, while their 1993 follow-up (and last) record Built to Perform shows growth in multiple directions, incorporating the drop-d riffing of Soundgarden and Alice In Chains flawlessly with Guns 'n Roses licks and energy. Episode 2 of the pod. We go through all of the action in the first full week of the MLB season. Musgrove's no-hitter, JD's three home run game, Castellanos suspended, and so much more.
Taking you through the sports universe with fast-paced, non-stop, unapologetic opinions and analysis like no other as Episode 189 is primed and ready to be heard. On deck: (5:07) A rather ho-hum Masters golf tournament became historic as Hideki Matsuyama is the first Japanese man to win a major! I'll get into specifics on the weekend overall. Huge names not making the cut (i.e. Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy to name a couple). Players coming out of the woodwork (i.e. Will Zalatoris and Marc Leishman) and others trying to make a run at the top of the leaderboard (i.e. Xander Schauffele and Jordan Spieth). Even Bryson DeChambeau wasn't a threat throughout the weekend as I recap all that went down in Augusta. (22:21) The MLB season is about 11 days old (seven if you're a Met fan like myself) and there's already a few things to gripe about. From the lack of run support AGAIN for ace Jacob deGrom, to the controversial opening day win with Michael Conforto sticking his elbow out for a walk off hit by pitch RBI, to why did they Mets play when it was raining while foiling Marcus Stroman's start. UGH! You know I have lots to say on this. Also, the Yankees pitching woes, the missed call at home plate which cost the Braves a possible win against the Phillies and an NCAA Division I women's softball player makes history. (38:32) The NBA is starting to heat up a little bit on the court as the Suns take care of the Jazz at home last week. Only to follow up with a tough loss against the Clippers the next night. The story there that's building is a budding rivalry as tensions flare and some comments were made by Clipper forward, Paul George. I'll get into that, as well as, an update on the return of Anthony Davis and LeBron James, Kyrie Irving is out of the lineup for personal reasons AGAIN and A-Rod to become a minority owner of the T-Wolves? (51:37) The trade deadline has come and gone in the NHL and the Eastern Conference has done most of the damage. The Islanders make a big trade to acquire two former New Jersey Devils, but the biggest trade may be the final piece in the puzzle for the team with the longest Stanley Cup drought north of the border. I'll delve into the deals that may impact the division races as we head into the homestretch of the regular season. (1:01:12) The Jets send Sam Darnold packing to Carolina. Why did they get so little in return? Why were they enamored with potential pick in BYU QB, Zack Wilson? Plus, the real reason why they jettisoned the former Jet QB. And the ongoing saga of Deshaun Watson as accusation pile up against him. Will he play this year? Is a suspension from the league looming? A thought as to why Watson wanted out of Houston? I'll have all of that… (1:10:15) …and my Hero and Zero of the Week! Luke Voit has been the Yankees' best hitter this year. Voit hit two home runs in the Yankees' doubleheader sweep of the Orioles. Voit now sits atop the MLB home run leader-board with Mike Trout. Kenta Maeda has been a silent ace for the Twins this year. The Mets actually gave Jacob deGrom some run support. The Mets scored a whopping 18 runs in support of deGrom. All this (and more) on today's episode.

In 2013, 3rd Ranger Battalion combat veteran Cory Smith highlighted the difficult transition so many veterans face by making a very difficult, public and personal transition. Cory ran from Columbus, GA to Indianapolis, IN – 565 miles - to his daughter. His example is now a national movement called Run Ranger Run where individuals and teams from around the country raise funds and awareness to assist in the transition from active military to civilian life. You can join Cory to make a difference right where you are, and bring awareness to the difficult transition many of our honored military veterans face. A team of up to ten individuals will pledge to walk, run and/or ride bicycles a combined total of 565 miles in the month of February (usually 28 days). Teams may be formed from anywhere in the world and your miles can be logged from the comfort of your own home. As a collective, all participants will raise funds for GallantFew and increase awareness for veteran issues surrounding the transition from active military service to civilian life. Special Guest: Cory Smith.

Another lost opportunity for a sweep. Instead we end with a 3-3 road trip as we head home for our final home-stand prior to the All-Star break. 3-3 feels like kissing your sister (not my sister -- your sister). You had better not kiss my sister or you will have two big guys upset with you. Arizona's Orlando Hudson homers for the second consecutive game and Orlando Cabrerra extends his streak to 53 games. Perhaps the Rockies will bring better days.
