Edition No77 | 08-01-2025 - When preparing this second part episode, I was going to go through the interview chronologically and respond to each part. But many YouTubers have already done this, and many of you will have seen the interview in its entirety already. So, this likely won't be of great value. ---------- SILICON CURTAIN FILM FUNDRAISER A project to make a documentary film in Ukraine, to raise awareness of Ukraine's struggle and in supporting a team running aid convoys to Ukraine's frontline towns. https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extras ---------- Zelenskyy's answers are for the most part superb and push back strongly against Russian disinformation narratives far better than I can. This is perhaps one of Zelenskyy's most forceful and accessible interviews. In some ways it's the naivety, and what could be described as ignorance of context on the part of Fridman, that triggers Zelenskyy into providing some of the most compelling answers ever given to Russian narratives and talking points, many of which have been adopted by the MAGA bubble as well as some in conservative political circles. Also, it must be said by the far Left, and those who have traditionally seen the Soviet Union as a template for an alternative society to capitalism and as an antidote to American imperialism. Both are deeply misguided, as Russia is a classic imperialist entity, perhaps one of the most brutal imperial powers in history, and not a template for any kind of civilisation that a reasonable person should aspire to live in or help build. ~/ /~/ /~/ /~/ /~ So, in this episode, I'm going to examine the Russian myths and propagandistic narratives that are the source for what seems to be much of Lex Fridman's research. He claims at the end of the interview to have consumed many books on the history of Ukraine and Russia, it's imperial domination of the region and the more recent history that led up to the full-scale war. But unfortunately, his choice of themes and the construction of his questions, suggest to me that his sources of information are weighted towards podcasts, memes and conversations within a bubble, rather than solid journalism and the writings of professional historians. There is a strong bias in Lex's framing of topics and questions towards Russian inspired historical mythology and intentionally manufactured national myths, which seem to be a more potent source of inspiration for Lex in his choices, priorities and phraseology, than reliable sources. Here is a breakdown of nearly all Lex's questions that spanned the three-hour interview, and how each correlate to a greater or lesser extent to common Russian narratives. Some of the topics of course are perfectly valid to bring up, and Russian propaganda rarely manufacturers issues from scratch. It leverages existing problems, pours petrol on the flames of real conflicts, and seeks to widen and weaponize existing divisions. But propaganda utilises these issues, and Lex has scored an almost complete bingo card of them. Again, I suspect that his intention is not to be propagandistic, but the framing of his questions, the language he uses, betrays a lack of depth and seriousness to his research, as well as a remarkable level of naivety about real-world politics. ---------- NEWS SOURCES: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u321m25rKXc ---------- SUPPORT THE CHANNEL: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain https://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain ---------- TRUSTED CHARITIES ON THE GROUND: Save Ukraine https://www.saveukraineua.org/ Superhumans - Hospital for war traumas https://superhumans.com/en/ UNBROKEN - Treatment. Edition No75 | 06-01-2025 - Lex Fridman is in the enviable position to interview some of the world's leading writers, thinkers, scientists and politicians. Some have accused him of peddling ‘low quality' and superficial content, but that cannot be true of all his video, given the calibre of some of his guests. And this interview with Zelenskyy that has just come out is one of his best. And it's not because of the quality of Fridman's questions. His precision, erudition and wit. Sometimes it's the reverse, when the simplistic or naïve assumptions behind his questions irked or irritated Zelenskyy, it elicited some of the President's clearest and best responses. ---------- SILICON CURTAIN FILM FUNDRAISER A project to make a documentary film in Ukraine, to raise awareness of Ukraine's struggle and in supporting a team running aid convoys to Ukraine's frontline towns. https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extras ---------- Trucks under Christmas Tree https://donorbox.org/trucks-under-christmas-tree/fundraiser/silicon-curtain The Goal of the Campaign for Silicon Curtain: € 10,000 to purchase 1 truck to save Ukrainian lives. ---------- This is important, because the interview was not for Ukrainians, for activists or the pro-Ukraine bubble. It was meant for people that may have no regard for Zelenskyy or Ukraine, may be indifferent to its plight, or who may even have been influenced by Russian talking points, and have an active antipathy towards Ukraine's leadership. If the interview reached these people, and broke down some myths and preconceptions then it will have been worth it. If the interview succeeds in humanising Zelensky and Ukraine for people, then it can be considered a success. If the interview undermines the propagandistic narrative that Putin really wants peace, but is being obstructed by Ukraine, then it will have strategic importance ahead of Trump's inauguration, and the negotiation process that he clearly wants to initiate. If Trump's supporters move away from the idea of peace through capitulation, to peace through strength, then this interview will have served a very important purpose. ---------- NEWS SOURCES: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u321m25rKXc ---------- SUPPORT THE CHANNEL: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain https://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain ---------- TRUSTED CHARITIES ON THE GROUND: Save Ukraine https://www.saveukraineua.org/ Superhumans - Hospital for war traumas https://superhumans.com/en/ UNBROKEN - Treatment. Jack Weatherford returns to the pod which marks a pretty sentimental moment for me (links are at the bottom of this email, before the transcript snippet).Jack's first appearance was #19 of the podcast. To this day, it's my favourite podcast I've ever recorded. These are links to the first appearance. Jack Weatherford #19 on SpotifyJack Weatherford #19 on AppleJack Weatherford #19 on YoutubeBut four years ago, when I had just started this podcast, I had written to Jack telling how I was listening to the final chapters of his book while walking across sand dunes in Merghouza, (a desolate slice of the Sahara in south west Morocco). The chapter was making the case for how the plagues viral spread was downstream of the Mongols connectivity of the modern world. I wrote that I was keen to interview him for this podcast that I had just started. There were lots of rejection for a while in the first few years and I had no expectations he would even get back to me. But to my surprise he did, and it was an emphatic yes. We corresponded a bit over email, recorded a 4 hour discussion, of which 3 where published And it was as much a dedication to Mongolia as it was Genghis Khan and the Mongols. And I've waited in the years since to see him appear on Rogan, Fridman, Tim Ferriss or even a Dan Carlin addendum, since these are all blokes who have openly praised and spoken about Jack's work many times. But so far, nothing, although it looks like one of them may correct this, which Jack may or may not give away at the end.But onto this episode today. Jack has just published his final instalment on the Mongols, his fourth book on the topic. It's called Emperor Of The Seas and it's about Genghis's grandson, Kublai Khan, who expanded the Mongol territory beyond the dominion his grandfather conquered 50 years before him. Kublai folded into the Khan empire the fertile agricultural lands of south China, repurposed that fleet and the expertise along with and expanded the Khan empire beyond the oceans. Are incumbent media networks losing ground? Kamala stuck to broadcast media, while Trump bypassed traditional filters and reached audiences as an influencer, taking his message to Rogan and Fridman. Among concerns over echo chambers and AI-controlled narratives, there's a flip side—more people now have a platform, giving everyone a voice. Guillermo Rauch of Vercel says “everyone needs to be empowered to create.” The more people who can build their own platforms and apps, the more we decentralize the conversation. And that's just the motor. “You have hundreds of millions of lines of code inside a vehicle. If you were talking about autonomous vehicles, it's even more. But the number of lines of codes in a vehicle is continuously growing,” Fridman told Just the News. He said that in addition to the lines of code in the vehicle's software there are also wireless connections to the internet for software updates, connections to charging infrastructure. And there are connections to the electricity grid for vehicle to grid technology, which allows EV owners to sell their energy storage capacity to grid operators. “The more communication protocols you have, the more lines of code you have, the more you are susceptible to controlling something that will trigger events that are … let's call it malicious,” Fridman said. The Heritage Foundation released a report recently that included a proposal that Chinese-made EVs be banned. Software to remotely disable cars already exists inside American-made vehicles, and the report argues such a tactic could be used maliciously by a foreign adversary. Leora Fridman Leora Fridman is a writer whose work is concerned with issues of identity, care, dis/ability, and embodiment. She is author of Static Palace, a collection of essays about chronic illness, art and politics, Bound Up: On Kink, Power & Belonging, just out this month, and other books of prose, poetry and translation. She is currently faculty at the Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School and Director of the New Jewish Culture Fellowship. A provocative look at historical trauma as bound, incarnated, and processed through intimate and sexual expression. In an autotheoretical journey through bondage, domination, and intimacy, Leora Fridman uncovers how Jewish historical trauma can be challenged and explored in embodied relations. Drawing on her experiences as an American Jew in Germany, Fridman delves into BDSM practices and experimental communities from Oakland to Berlin. This work weaves personal encounters with critical analysis founded in feminist theory, queer literature, Holocaust history, and memory studies. Bound Up begins with kink and leads us through a sensual and intelligent approach to intergenerational trauma and lived politics. What kind of healing can take place in the relational and physical realm? How can intimacy contradict and complement the process of political reparations? Fridman layers a nuanced understanding of shame, responsibility, and power with explorations of cinema, contemporary art, and popular culture to shed light on topics from personal and political relationships to victimhood and blame. Both timely and timeless, this work is an address to history and the contemporary moment, relevant to Jews, diasporic scholars, and all exploring ethical relationships with history and with other humans.

In an intriguing episode of the Lex Fridman Podcast, number 414, Lex Fridman sits down with none other than Tucker Carlson, a figure synonymous with polarizing opinion, insightful yet controversial commentary on modern-day politics, and a relentless questioning of the established order. The episode, titled "Putin, Navalny, Trump, CIA, NSA, War, Politics & Freedom," has garnered significant attention, amassing 15 million views. Spanning over an hour and sixteen minutes, this conversation promises a delve into some of the most contentious and critical issues of our time.At the heart of this episode is Fridman and Carlson's exploration of a series of high-stakes topics, each with its own complex web of implications on global stability, individual freedoms, and the very fabric of democratic societies. Beginning with figures like Vladimir Putin and Alexei Navalny, the discussion undoubtedly ventures into the realms of Russian politics, where allegations of authoritarianism clash with nationalistic pride. Navalny's role as a thorn in the Kremlin's side, coupled with Putin's long-standing grip on power, presents a narrative ripe with questions about opposition, freedom, and the price of dissent in Putin's Russia. The conversation doesn't stop at the borders of Russia. It swiftly moves across the Atlantic to discuss figures such as Donald Trump, whose presidency and post-presidency period have been marked by controversy, allegations of collusion, and a deep polarization within the United States. Fridman and Carlson tackle the complex dynamics of Trump's America, where issues of freedom of speech, political division, and the role of the media in shaping public perception are hotter topics than ever.In addition, the duo delves into the shadowy realms of the CIA and NSA, agencies long enveloped in mystery, intrigue, and debates over privacy vs. security. In an era where digital surveillance has become the norm, Fridman and Carlson's discussion raises essential questions about the extent to which governments should go in the name of national security and where the line between safeguarding citizens and infringing upon personal freedoms lies. Moreover, the podcast episode doesn't shy away from the broader themes of war, politics, and the concept of freedom itself. In dissecting these subjects, Fridman and Carlson embark on a philosophical journey through the justifications of wars past and present, the ever-evolving landscape of global politics, and the philosophical underpinnings of what it means to be free in a world fraught with conflicts, both ideological and physical. This episode stands as a testament to the importance of dialogue, especially on issues that are as divisive as they are critical. Whether one aligns with Carlson's views or stands in opposition, the conversation invites listeners to engage with perspectives that may challenge their own, encourage critical thinking, and prompt a deeper understanding of the complexities that define our world. As global tensions continue to simmer and questions about freedom, democracy, and the role of government remain as pertinent as ever, "Putin, Navalny, Trump, CIA, NSA, War, Politics & Freedom" serves as a crucial piece of commentary. It embodies the essence of what it means to engage in hard-hitting discussions that don't just skim the surface but dive deep into the heart of what shapes our global society today.

Neural Implant podcast - the people behind Brain-Machine Interface revolutions
Dr. Gene Fridman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and also has appointments with the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His research is in the areas of bioinstrumentation and neural engineering. In this episode we talk about his freeform nerual stimulator which allows for DC and any other waveforms without any electrolytic effects on the electrodes. This opens up many possibilities for neural stimulation. We also talk about his startup Aidar which is like a 'tricorder' all-in-one medical diagnostic tool. This podcast is sponsored by CEITEC Nano, check out their Neurotech Device Manufacturing Capabilities here Top 3 Takeaways: "The reason why they have to use pulses at the metal electrodes is that if you deliver electrical current for too long to a metal electrode that is implanted in the body, what you're going to get is you're going to get electrochemistry, the first thing that will happen is you're going to start forming bubbles because you're going to split water. It's electrolysis. So you clearly don't want to do that in the body. They have to use pulses charge balanced by phasic pulses otherwise, you're going to have these electrons jump across and cause chemical reactions" "By introducing hyperpolarizing current to the peripheral nerve what we're seeing is it's affecting the small caliber neurons much more so, which carry pain much more so than the larger neurons that carry other information. And so we're able to block pain at the peripheral nerve. We didn't know about this. It was a surprise to us." 0:45 "Do you want to introduce yourself better than I just did?" 3:00 Do you want to talk about your device able to talk to both ions and electrons in neurotech? 7:00 Was a DC bridge rectifier the inspiration for this? 9:15 What is possible with these new waveforms? 15:15 "How big is it? And why does it need to be that size?" 21:45 CEITEC Nano Ad Sponsorship 22:15 Do you want to talk about your startup company, Aidar? 24:30 Are you doing any nerve stuff with the 'tricorder?' 26:30 How are you able to manage the time with the startup? 27:45 How did you get the project's initial data?

Yon Raz-Fridman is an entrepreneur, repeat founder, and technology executive. Originally from Israel, he went to London to start his career, met his wife, and moved to New York. Eventually, they moved back to her hometown and are now based in Columbus, Ohio. In college, Yon was part of an entrepreneurial academic program where he developed a passion for blending expression, creativity, and digital products.Supersocial is the number one developer, publisher, and operator of premium virtual worlds on immersive social platforms like Roblox and Fortnight. They create engaging games and experiences that focus on bringing joy to next-gen digital communities using their IP and IP from some of the world's most innovative and largest brands and companies. After seeing the rise of Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnight before and during the pandemic, Yon began to believe virtual 3D worlds would be the next frontier of the consumer internet. There are two generations (Z and Alpha, born after 2000) that have been born into a smartphone-based world with large, immersive social platforms. They are playing, socializing, and expressing themselves on these platforms and representing themselves as a 3D avatar with a mindset of "It's not just me playing the character. I am the character". Yon realized these kids are going to grow up and will likely want to continue to interact with the internet in the same way. This evolution will change how they interact with media, entertainment, and shopping. While the fundamentals are yet to be determined, the scale is undeniable. In this episode, Alan and Yon discuss how Supersocial capitalizes on that hypothesis, how brands and advertisers might think about experimenting and getting in early, and what the KPIs are in these spaces. Yon talks about trends he sees in the Metaverse, how they are connected to actual human behavior change, and how Supersocial works with brands like NARS to harness these opportunities. Yons says the Metaverse isn't replacing the current internet; it is the next iteration. It is the next frontier of the consumer internet, and there is exponential potential to grow into it. However, he also warns against getting caught up in hype, both negative and positive, and instead advises to "pay attention to what people do with technology, not the technology itself."In this episode, you'll learn:What Supersocial does and the KPIs they care aboutThe inevitable evolution of the internet and how we use itWhat most people are missing when they think about the MetaverseKey Highlights: [01:46] From Isreal to Columbus, Ohio[06:10] The spark to start Supersocial[11:45] What is Supersocial?[12:40] What we don't know and what we are missing when it comes to the metaverse[14:45] The internet is evolving into the next iteration.[17:45] How might there be 100 billion people in the Metaverse?[20:00] What is Yon seeing in the Metaverse today?[21:30] Bringing brands to Roblox in an authentic way[26:20] How brands can start in the space[29:47] Metaverse success metrics[32:00] Pandemic pivot[36:00] Advice to his younger self: Perfect is the enemy of great.[37:30] Be careful how much you rely on technology versus what people do with it.[40:50] Trends and subcultures[44:00] You own your time.Looking for more?Visit our website for links to resources mentioned in this episode and ways to connect with the guest! William then discusses the breakthroughs that people are having in SalesGod, how learning powerful persuasion in your own language draws the outcomes you want, and some new policy changes within the organization.Thank you for listening to GODMODE™: Win or Win Bigger. If you are ready to UPGRD Your Mind, visit us at: https://upgrd.com and book a call with one of our team members
