How can exploring your deepest desires transform your life?Jay House joins us to unravel her fascinating journey from Monogamy to ENM to a celibacy practice. Please join us as we celebrate the joy of human connections, the power of words, and the importance of staying true to one's core values in the journey of personal growth. We discuss Jay's journey from Mama Gena’s program as the beginning of identifying her true desires, beyond just sexuality, leading to a significant breakup and a redefined understanding of relationships. She shares her shift from being a straight, monogamous woman to embracing identities like polyamorous, ethically non-monogamous, and kinky, revealing the profound changes and personal growth that followed. Venturing further, we explore the realm of non-romantic, intimate spiritual partnerships, diving into the challenges of defining and understanding these unique connections. Jay discusses her bold six-month celibacy experiment aimed at achieving emotional and nervous system sobriety. She details the journey’s constraints, including avoiding sexual play and genital contact while still engaging in certain kink scenes. Together, we examine the potential benefits of this personal experiment, emphasizing self-exploration and the importance of setting boundaries for a focused and introspective path. Finally, we shift our focus to the critical aspect of integration and self-awareness in personal development. Reflecting on various courses and teachings, such as BDSM practices, shamanic kink, and urban tantra, we highlight the value of integrating this knowledge into one’s life. The discussion touches on understanding different parts of oneself and how this awareness fosters better communication and healthier relationships. MORE ABOUT TANTRA The original practice of Tantra encompasses a wide range of beliefs, practices, and rituals, and its principles can vary among different schools and traditions. However, some core principles are commonly associated with Tantra: Unity of the Divine: Tantra often emphasizes the oneness or unity of the ultimate reality, which may be referred to as Brahman, Shiva, Shakti, or other names depending on the specific tradition. The idea is that everything in the universe is an expression of this ultimate reality. Energy and Consciousness (Shiva and Shakti): Tantra often conceptualizes the divine as a dynamic interplay between masculine (Shiva) and feminine (Shakti) energies. These energies represent the dual aspects of the supreme consciousness, and the practice of Tantra often involves awakening and harmonizing these energies. Sacred Sexuality: Some Tantric traditions incorporate rituals and practices that involve sacred sexuality. The goal is not mere physical pleasure but rather the spiritual union of Shiva and Shakti energies within the practitioners, aiming for heightened awareness and divine connection. Ritual and Symbolism: Tantra frequently employs rituals, symbols, and ceremonies to connect with the divine. These can include mantra chanting, yantra (geometric diagrams), mudras (hand gestures), and various ceremonies designed to invoke spiritual energies. Embracing the Mundane: Unlike some ascetic traditions, Tantra embraces the material world and the experiences of daily life. It encourages practitioners to see the divine in everything, including ordinary activities, and to use the challenges of the material world as opportunities for spiritual growth. Teacher-Student Relationship: Traditional Tantric practices often involve a guru-disciple relationship. The guru is seen as a guide and spiritual mentor who leads the disciple on the path toward self-realization. Non-Dualism (Advaita): Many Tantric traditions advocate a non-dualistic perspective, emphasizing that the ultimate reality is beyond distinctions such as good or bad, pure or impure. Practitioners seek to overcome dualities and realize the underlying unity of all things. Many Westerners have been applying Tantric principals to sex for over 100 years. Some of these principals include adding ritual and mindfulness to sexual experiences, focusing on breath and energy, fostering a deep connection between partners and focusing on pleasure and ecstasy as opposed to orgasm.

I reclaim my life force energy and my power. And so it is. Notice whether you feel a release physically, energetically, emotionally or spiritually. This is a classic, extensively researched, seminal tantric text based on primary source research translated from Chinese, Japanese and Sanskrit by the authors. Urban Tantra by Barbara Carrellas gives practical exercises for people to connect with tantric energy. KEY TAKEAWAYS Women are the essence and expression of the divine feminine archetype and there are a lot of expressions of that. And yes, everyone has masculine and feminine energy inside of them, but women are the essence of the feminine. There are different types of archetypes: the maiden, the mother, the crone, the creator, the sex goddess, wise women. You have those qualities within you whether you're sweet and kind or criticising or manifesting and men, whether they're aware of it or not, are attracted to your sexual and spiritual energy. When you fate online men are trying to access this energy and they often do it by asking sexual questions. There are three groups of men: Men who want casual sex, men who want relationships, and guys who don't know what they want – these aren't guys you want to waste your time on. Cross those people off your list, your time is precious. The men who want quick access to your sexual energy are taking shortcuts by skipping dating steps. If it makes you feel nervous or afraid that's because it's not safe because they haven't taken the time or effort to build up trust. Once we're older and we exit a relationship (long- or short-term), it leaves us wondering what's important in life. You may have wondered if all the effort you put into your past relationships was worth it, or you might feel that you didn't get what you were looking for, or you might want something totally different. Give yourself permission to open yourself up to different possibilities. Life now is different to life in your teens and twenties and your desires and needs are different as well. Most people have grown up experiencing vanilla sex or relationships and they get into a rut where they do the same kinds of behaviours over and over again. They expect their partner to be monogamous and they may rarely or never actually talk about sex or their fantasies. This is one of the many reasons why relationships end. Men and some women do want variety and sometimes they get bored of the same persona and the same actions over and over again, not just sex but relationship actions too. BEST MOMENTS “Men have the spiritual energy of being a director or a builder, women are creators and gestators of ideas and men take and direct the energy that the feminine gives them and make it come into physical existence.”“If you're looking for casual sex, you need to be treated with respect with that even.”“Just because you might have been monogamous for years does not mean you have to have the same kind of sex or relationship life you had before. This is an ideal time to look at and explore other options.”“Kinks are a way of experiencing sexuality or arousal from something that's not normally considered sexual or sexy. Tantra is a way of working with sacred sexual energy (with yourself or a partner) to open up kundalini flow and your chakras to expand your spiritual consciousness.” ABOUT THE HOST Ariel is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist, Reiki Master, Empath and Psychic who has been involved in holistic healing since 1988. Here in the 21st century, we're fascinated by something that was invented in the 7th century: tantra, and more specifically, tantric sex. But it's also one of the most misunderstood practices around, starting with: it's not just about sex! Tantra is an entire world of spirituality, intimacy, breathwork and presence, which is precisely why I have Barbara Carellas, founder of Urban Tantra, on the show with me today. A pioneer in the world of tantric healing practices, Barbara gives us the real deal on these sacred techniques – and shows us how we can use them in the modern world, for full body pleasure, higher states of consciousness, and a radically deeper connection with your partner. Plus, I take your questions! How do you stay in the present moment during sex, and not disassociate while it's happening – or, get so nervous that you block all the pleasure? I've got some thoughts on that. For More Information on Barbara:Website | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube | FacebookShow Notes:Emily's Shop Page See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

And we're back! Thank you all for your patience during our hiatus. Our recording computer broke and we had to wait for the new one. Our regular weekly programming can continue and this week we have an amazing and fun show for you. Reba the Diva joined us in the Lounge for some great conversation. She fills us in on how she went from working in nonprofit to the vast world of sexuality and sex education. There's so much passion when Reba talks about the work she does and it is something that the Ganja Goddesses feel in their own work too. She shares with us a bit about her work with grassroots campaigns for legalization in DC and how cannabis is used in the oppression of black and brown folks. The three of us were very eager to talk more about sex and cannabis and how to really embrace the whole plant to aid in more pleasurable experiences. Reba talks about her favorite thing to host online and all the fun details of what that entails. Eager to sign-up for this year’s Explore More Summit? It kicks off April 23rd, 2018 and you can enroll for free at exploremoresummit.com. It's your questions this week, folks, and there are so many amazing ones to get to. KiltmanFL wrote in about AC's question in episode 203 wanting kink classes in Florida. Kiltman has some great resources for all you Florida listeners. Bee wrote in with a long thank you note, but basically Bee was inspired to have some really scary conversations with her partner and now some much-needed changes are happening in her relationship. Yay for courageous conversations. A listener wrote in with a subject line of Virgin. You know I love these. This listener doesn't want to have sex until marriage but her girlfriend wants to have sex before marriage to make sure it's a good fit. How can she talk about sex when she's had zero experience? Among other suggestions, I also recommend Allison Moon's, "Girl Sex 101", Barbara Carrellas' "Ecstasy is Necessary" and "Urban Tantra." Jon & Mandi just discovered the joys of anal fisting, but is there a such thing as stylish, above the elbow, silicone safe gloves? They need something practical and pretty. I asked a bunch of experts and offer some input. Unihorn is having lots of sex via dating apps. Unihorn has never been in a relationship and is worried that all the sex means they aren't developing the skills needed for a healthy relationship later. Should they be worried? I have thoughts about sex, relationships, and what Unihorn should do. Betrayed wrote in with a very vulnerable share about an abusive ex-husband, vulvodynia, sexual pain, and dissociating during pleasure. Betrayed asks: How can people still explore sexual things without having the goal be orgasm? How do you know when to stop if you're not using climax as the finish line? How can I find different ways to enjoy sex in general? I have so many thoughts and I really hope you savor this because it's helpful for so many of us. Patreon supporters - this week's bonus is a really juicy clip from my talk with therapist Shadeen Francis for the Explore More Summit. It's all about honesty versus transparency, especially after betrayal. Her analogies are spot on and she gave me language for feelings I'd held for so long and didn't know how to articulate. GOOD GOOD stuff. Follow Sex Gets Real on Twitter and Facebook. It's true. Oh! And Dawn is on Instagram. This week, Barbara Carrellas joins me to talk all about tantra. Her incredible, inclusive book, "Urban Tantra" just celebrated it's 10 year anniversary by releasing an updated 2nd edition. The new edition includes tantra for asexual/aromantic folks and an entire chapter on erotic massage for trans and gender non-conformity bodies. If you've listened to the show for any amount of time, you know that I adore this book and Barbara's approach to tantra. And, this week's episode gives you a delicious idea of why - it's so inclusive, so open, so welcoming, and absolutely designed for you to customize it to fit your needs, desires, and life. Tantra shouldn't be about certain positions, heterosexual bodies, masculinity or femininity and certain genders because it's a spiritual practice. And spiritual practices need to include everybody in every body. Grab the 2nd edition of Urban Tantra RIGHT NOW. Looking for my new porn workshop? Pop over here.
