“What Is Starfleet?” The long-teased documentary by Umberto Ortegas has finally been released. “Starfleet presents themselves as our quadrant's shining example of duty, honor, peacekeeping,” says the little brother of Erica Ortegas, who flies the ship. “But what separates a federation from an empire? Both colonize. Both impose their laws and doctrines on others. Are they explorers as they claim? Or soldiers as they appear? They call their vessels starships. What distinguishes them from warships?” Filming a mission during which the Enterprise is ordered to transport cargo that turns out to be a sentient being that turns out to have been transformed into a weapon certainly begs answers to those questions. As viewers, we watch the findings of this young investigative reporter unfold and lead him down a path he may not have expected. In this episode of Saddle Up! hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our journey through Strange New Worlds with “What Is Starfleet?” We discuss the documentary concept, Beto's agenda, and pacing in short seasons as well as the big question (and whether the story answers it). Tune in as we ponder whether Starfleet's identity truly rests on its people's adherence to their beliefs and ideals.
“Strange New Worlds” gets the documentary treatment this week, as the Enterprise is confronted with some difficult choices that call into question some of Starfleet’s most deeply held beliiefs. The documentary has a real character arc, going from deep skepticism to a final understanding in just 40 minutes. Unfortunately, that’s not how documentaries work! Scott McNulty and Jason Snell.
Sounds like a great podcast topic, doesn’t it? But no, it’s the title of the new episode of Star Trek — Strange New Worlds Season 3 Episode 7: “What is Starfleet?” We finally get to see the documentary that Beto Ortegas has been working on all season, exploring what Starfleet and the Federation are all […] The post What is Starfleet? – Earth Station Trek – Episode 228 appeared first on The ESO Network.
Captain Kirk's first command turns chaotic when a planet-destroying scavenger ship consumes the Enterprise, leaving the crew trapped and drained of energy. While Kirk struggles with his newfound leadership, the combined ingenuity of his future crew, including Scotty, Spock, Uhura, Chapel, must find a way to defeat the beast. This episode explores the "dog who caught the car" idiom as Kirk confronts the unexpected realities of achieving his Starfleet dream, all while introducing a mysterious, post-WW3 human antagonist. #StrangeNewWorlds #TheSehlatWhoAteItsTail

Barm and Kregg (Sneed is in the previously on) return for more Picard, and everyone sort of agrees that this is maybe kinda sorta an improvement on the last two episodes. Especially, a scene between Bevs and Jean-Luc has our knickers in a twist. Barm also goes off on Boomers, Jack goes off on Zoomers who don't know what Boomers are, Kregg is amused, but we all agree that Shaw is Gen-X. We still can't figure out whether Beverly is in Starfleet or not, but we do know Jack Crusher is the oldest-looking early twenty-something we've ever seen. Packs a hell of a K-O punch, though. We're all entering a nebula of alcohol though, and wondering if the whole nightmare of Picard will end up being an elaborate prank orchestrated by Moriarty. Plus, we celebrate some shocking Trek news and the return of Mando, and pray for Barm's testicle. In other words, it's just a regular-ass Jaxilly.

Jace welcomes Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing back to the show to chat about Star Trek. The guys start off by looking back on the second act of their Star Trek run specially for the two big events that took place during it, Day of Blood and Lore War. Their is plenty of talk about legacy, emotion and character with Lore and Kahless specifically. Then the discussion pivots to the new era of Star Trek that will be the setting for The Last Starship. A Star Trek story set farther into the future than any Star Trek story has ever explored. It is a darker universe following the catastrophic event known as The Burn, wherein all dilithium has become enert and 96% of Starfleet personal, along with trillions of citizens galaxy-wide, have lost their lives due to this unforeseen occurence. Into the chaos of these events, perhaps the most legendary Starship captain of all time, James T. Kirk, will return. It's a wonderful place for someone who has never read Star Trek to jump on, just as it will excite long-time readers with a tone that Star Trek hasn't explored much in the past. There is incredibly textured art by Adrian Bonilla and to hear Jackson and Collin tell it, he is as passionate about Star Trek as they are, so expect great things artistically. Final Order Cut-Off for The Last Starship is August 18th, so let your comic shop know that you want a copy and be ready when it arrives in shops on September 24th.

“A Space Adventure Hour” While studying the neutron star at the center of the Kitolian Belt, Captain Pike and Number One decide that it's the perfect chance to test a new Starfleet innovation that should make extended missions easier: the Holodeck. What better time to push the ship's power resources to the limit than when circling the gravitationally collapsed core of a massive supergiant? What could possibly go wrong? Well, for one thing, a burgeoning television show could be canceled. Also, La'an could get trapped in a simulation with the safeties off. And, in the worst case, the entire crew could be lost as the crushing gravity of the collapsing star pulls the ship apart. But don't worry, Amelia Moon is on the case. What happens when you ask Starfleet's most logical mind to make sense of modern America? From politics to conspiracy theories, climate denial to social media chaos, Commander Spock doesn't pull punches. He even offers his thoughts on the current state of Star Trek—and yes, he has opinions about blowing up the Enterprise, killing off Kirk, and the eyebrow-raising “young Spock.”No emotion. No spin. Just reason.
Remember the last time the crew of the Enterprise lost their memories? Yeah, we don't either, but when they do, it leaves them in quite a “Conundrum.” Find out all about it in this exciting episode of ST:TNGeez . . . The Enterprise is investigating some weird subspace nonsense when they lose their memories in a flash of light. The confused crew do their best to recover while also trying to figure out why their precious computer is also borked when it comes to personal data and mission logs. They finally manage to access some personnel files and learn their names, and they're all here. Picard, Worf, Ro (yes! Ensign Ro is back, baby!), Data, Bev, Troi, MacDuff, Riker . . . Hey, wait! Who the Hell is MacDuff? Why he's second in command of the Enterprise of course, and Capt. Picard's right hand man. Good thing, too, because it seems Starfleet is in the middle of a war with a race called the Lysians, and the Enterprise is taking the point in a crucial mission that promises to end the war. It's a ship in a bottle episode and with tensions flaring, memories failing, and Rikers fucking, This bottle gonna break! Will Bev be able to help the crew regain their memories? Will anyone ask why there's a Klingon on board? Will Picard remember where he put his sweater? Even more available at: https://tngeez.com
Welcome back to extra BATT content! This episode is a return to our series of The Games That Made Us. While Mark is finishing up the edit on the GenCon preview, we still wanted to make sure that we gave you content today the way we promised on BlueSky. So here is Scott talking about his love of Star Fleet Battles, a game by Stephen V. Cole from 1979 by Amarillo Design Bureau and Task Force Games. Scott got suprisingly whistful after listening to the edit of this, so while it may not have the heft of the HeroQuest episode, it's clearly still a game that he holds with deep affection. If nothing else, it's just fun to hear about another older game! And we'll give a sly little announcement here in the notes: Mark was recently gifted a number of old games from the 60s and 70s. We'll be doing a new segment soon called "Dusting Off:" where we go back to these decades old games to see how they may (or may not) have influenced the gaming hobby and if they're still worth going back to today. We hope you enjoy this episode and we'll catch you on the next one very shortly. --- You can email us at boardallthetimegaming@gmail.com. “Melora” 30th-anniversary reflections Doctor Bashir and Chief O'Brien prepare for the arrival of a new cartographer, Ensign Melora Pazlar. She is the first Elaysian to join Starfleet. Why? Her homeworld has low gravity, which makes it difficult for her people to function in environments common to Starfleet operations. She generally must use a wheelchair to move around, and Bashir has modified a special one for her to use while aboard Deep Space 9. When he and Melora start to fall for one another, Bashir begins searching for a treatment that could allow her to walk. But there's a catch: she would never be able to return to her homeworld for more than a short visit. Meanwhile, some other stuff is happening with Quark. In this episode of The Orb, hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our 30th-anniversary retrospective that will take you through all of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, one episode at a time.
