With Grand Theft Auto VI finally launching this November, we've been left without a key piece of information: Its price. Conjecture and prognostication has run rampant, but now we have confirmation that GTA6's base cost is $80 in the United States, with a $100 version offering players some perks and unlocks. With our long-awaited trip down to Leonida drawing closer on the horizon, we've much to discuss, including our hype level, whether we'll buy the base or special edition, the lack of a real physical version, and -- perhaps most intriguingly -- no new trailer or gameplay videos to help sell a product that (let's be honest) probably doesn't need much help to begin with. Other news this week includes significant layoffs at Sony-owned Bungie, indications that God of War: Laufey may launch as early as Q1 2027, more delisted shovelware tripe removed from PlayStation Store, executive-level issues at FromSoft, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! What's with Steam Machine's absurd price? Should Sony look to invest in any of Xbox's distressed assets? Why did PlayStation even bother publishing Midnight Murder Club if they were only going to ignore it? Will Chris and Colin one day have their shared ex-psychiatrist on the show to discuss our many mental ailments? Paul and Alec discuss the handful of small Yu-Gi-Oh news stories before getting into the disappointing announcement of the Steam Machine price tag and the announcement of GTA VI preorders.
Ben, Matt James, Steve Ahlman, and Rob Mahoney plug in their trident controllers for a four-player, 30th-anniversary celebration of a classic console from their youth, the Nintendo 64. First, in Patch Notes, they play a guessing game about what 'Grand Theft Auto VI' will cost as preorders begin, discuss whether the price is wrong for Valve's Steam Machine, and react to reports about upcoming Xbox layoffs and studio closures. Then they play "Mash or Pass?" with Nintendo's Switch 2 ‘Star Fox' remake and ‘The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales,' and they share what they want and expect from the upcoming ‘Ocarina of Time' remake. Finally, they assess the N64's legacy and draft their favorite N64 games across several genres. Email your questions to the podcast here. Is the Ocarina of Time Remake going to be faithful to the original? A new leak suggests it may be just that. This week on Nintendo Pow Block, Corey Dirrig is joined by the one and only Stephanie Klimov to discuss leaked game description that hints that Link's iconic N64 adventure will be a faithful remake with gorgeous new visuals and "timeless combat" later this year. They also discuss Nintendo Japan's strict new 50-hour playtime requirement to combat multi-language Switch 2 scalpers in the region, Mega Man's playable debut and Capcom's presence at Gamescom 2026, and the shocking reports that Microsoft is weighing major closures and spin-offs for fan-favorite Xbox studios like Ninja Theory and Double Fine. Finally, they dive into Valve's pricey new $1,000+ Steam Machine announcement and answer community questions about future Nintendo dating sims, post-Direct hype, and the evolving relationship between Xbox and Nintendo platforms. This and more on Nintendo Pow Block! Valve has been trying to crack the living room for more than a decade, and the new Steam Machine is its best attempt yet. It's a little bit PC, a little bit console, and a lot pricy — starting at $1,049, it had a lot to live up to. The Verge's Sean Hollister has been testing the device, and shares his findings on whether the Steam Machine can hang with PlayStation and Xbox. He also explains why, despite a never-ending list of challenges, Valve is still trying to make this device work.
