Adam and Zach discuss an emerging trend in wine service, where in lieu of a printed menu, a selection of wines are brought to the table and offered to guests. Is this kind of service enough to entice uncertain or skittish wine drinkers, or is it doing too much? Every session, we record a little extra debrief and discussion after we finish the game. This is usually reserved for the Tableside edition of the podcast which is available on our Patreon. But in this one we Spout Lore that's both interesting AND useful, so we decided to release it on the main feed for everyone to check out.Minor spoilers for Chapter 18 of the Cyclopolis, so consider listening to that episode first.This conversation is packed with stuff: video games and what does or doesn't translate readily to the tabletop, how to make evolving magic items, magic items as progress, how can we hit a vibe at the table, and when secrets are worth keeping between players. Plus a tiny hint of something I'm working on. There's quite a bit to be mined here, so give it a listen.During our talk, we mention Hard-Knock World by TroyPress. It's PWYW and definitely worth a look. Check it out here. If you enjoy this bonus episode, check out our Patreon to get our post-session chats with every episode we put out. Plus, we're very close to a Patreon goal that will have us starting a monthly stream with us playing, viewing, or reviewing different media and tabletop games in which we'll discuss lessons or ideas that you can bring to your own games. We'll also be uploading the recorded audio from those into the feed for those that can't catch the live stream. I'm gonna call it Appendix C, I think.Weigh in on our discussion on either Twitter, Instagram, or in the comments of this post.If Patreon isn't your thing check out our merch or leave us a review! We'll send you a Discord invite no matter how you support us, just let us know and we'll send you the link!

In this episodes we ask the question, Do Resumes Matter?!?! This fundamental document to the hiring process has become a homogenized accounting of absolutely nothing. Workers have been told, “do this, don’t do that” on resumes so intensely that resumes don’t actually communicate much of anything about who the candidate is. They are so formulaic in their copy/paste approach, with contact info and work history being the only thing differentiating it from any other piece of paper in the cluttered stack on the desk. We need to start expressing who we are before what we do. We need to start hiring for attributes and training for skills. Best Served Tableside sparks a roundtable conversation with industry workers, learning about what they love and loathe of their experiences on the job to ensure we build Workplaces Worth Working that Give A Shit About People.

CorkGuru is a digital wine platform designed to help restaurants enhance their wine program and create better guest experiences. Restaurants can better manage their wine inventory which drives sales for the beverage program and guests have the chance to receive a great experience with accessibility to the platform. The wine inventory system puts wine intelligence at your fingertips through dynamic digital wine lists, inventory management, guest inclusion features, and wine discovery. CorkGuru today launched recently launched a digital wine platform blending the thrill of exploration people experience in wine label tracking apps with inventory management and business intelligence. The result: deeper, more profitable wine programs for restaurants, more tailored selections for guests, and guidance on new experiences to seek out. The Pittsburgh-based company is already established with several top restaurants across the country, including the award-winning Bistecca Steakhouse & Wine Bar at the Meadows Racetrack in Pittsburgh and Chef Matt Harris’ Tupelo in Park City, Utah. The platform now launches more broadly, including a mobile app for guests. “Restaurants often say ‘paper works’ when it comes to their wine lists, but there’s so much more we can unlock for both restaurants and guests,” said Danielle Gillespie, founder and CEO of CorkGuru. “Typical wine lists can’t capture the moment a guest, craving a full-bodied cabernet, opts for something else because the price point is too high. Smarter wine lists can help restaurants guide guests to the experiences they crave, and those they don’t yet know about.” Building smart wine cellars Beverage programs used to drive restaurant profits. However, some reports indicate sales have slowed over the past few years, and restaurants now need to get smarter about managing lists and inventory to recapture that value. CorkGuru helps restaurants control this important revenue stream and improve the guest experience through: Wine Cellar Builder – a web-based portal for real-time inventory management Tableside tablet wine lists with dynamic wine descriptions and label images Wine list data and business intelligence through a partnership with Upserve’s Breadcrumb POS Simplifying wine ordering According to a recent Boston Consulting Group survey, more than one-third of restaurant customers rank digital sources as the most influential for discovering restaurant information, and nearly 60 percent have downloaded one or more restaurant apps. CorkGuru helps restaurants cater to these more digitally-empowered guests through: Scrollable and searchable wine entries on tableside tablets based on taste, color, varietal, preferences and food pairings Mobile app allowing guests to locate their favorite wine nearby, build a profile and explore new varietals Special wine promotions, news and invitations from favorite restaurants “How many times have you been at a restaurant in a position to order wine, but not sure what you want, then feeling pressured to order, you default to something you know, rather than try something new,” said Gillespie. “There are too many good wines and interesting pairings to get stuck in this habit. CorkGuru aims to break guests free from the wine echo chamber.”

Imagine turning Tolstoy’s famously epic novel "War and Peace" into a musical. Actually, hold it. Imagine turning 100 or so pages of "War and Peace" into a musical. That's a more manageable chunk of the novel, for sure, and there are still plenty of relationships and nearly inscrutable Russian names to sort out. Next, imagine a new venue in which to see the story unfold. And now you’re ready for Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812, the musical that first appeared in New York last year in an off-off-Broadway theater. Now it’s returned in an upgraded production at a pop-up cabaret space in the Meatpacking District of Manhattan called Kazino. What is this play written by Dave Malloy, who also stars as Pierre, and directed by Rachel Chavkin? And amid a cabaret setting in New York City, does Tolstoy stand a chance? New York Times theater critic Charles Isherwood finds out. And the Tony Awards are this coming Sunday. Tell us the musical and play you think will take home a Tony. .chart_div { width: 600px; height: 300px; } loadSurvey( "tonys-2013-who-will-win-best-musical", "survey_tonys-2013-who-will-win-best-musical"); .chart_div { width: 600px; height: 300px; } loadSurvey( "tonys-2013-who-will-win-best-play", "survey_tonys-2013-who-will-win-best-play");
