In this episode, "The Secrets to Successful Business Management w/ Daniel Good" hosted by Bill Reiman and Nate Swink, guest Daniel Good shares his experience of managing multiple businesses and the lessons he has learned from it. Daniel explains that it is not as glamorous as it sounds and that it is impossible to devote yourself to several different businesses at once. He admits that he made mistakes in the past, such as not having a leader or mentor to guide him, and that he was "winging it" without really understanding the nuts and bolts of the businesses. "My father passed away when I was 26, and I had to take on the role of leader at a young age. I had picked up both the good and bad habits from my father, and I had to learn the importance of true leadership," Daniel reflects. He eventually realized that true success was not about material possessions, but about creating a team effort and giving people the opportunity to be heard. Daniel had to tear down his business and rebuild it from the ground up, as it was operating with an old-school iron fist mentality. He had to get rid of the stuff, the people, and the leadership, and create new standards and expectations. Daniel also joined Top Contractor School (TCS) and learned how to fix himself. He shares how the organization has helped him to have meaningful relationships and to push away relationships that weren't aligned with his vision and goals. Daniel emphasizes the importance of having a leader or mentor to guide you, and encourages the audience to listen to the podcast to learn more about his story. "True success is not about material possessions, but about creating a team effort and giving people the opportunity to be heard. Leadership is not about being abrasive, but about creating a sense of trust and respect." The episode ends with the hosts and guest emphasizing the importance of joining the organization if you want to make a change and be surrounded by winners. The group is full of high-performing contractors trying to improve all aspects of their lives, most notably our business. I took so much from this retreat and formed many more friendships and close relationships with contractors. I think a big issue with contractors is they don't like to share practices that have helped them succeed in the industry. This episode of The Real Build features entrepreneur, consultant, author, podcaster, and influencer Brian Hess. I was excited to have Brian on the show because he is doing some big things in the construction industry. Brian is currently serving as President/CEO of The Pavement Group, where they offer full-service pavement installation, maintenance, and repair solutions to residential and commercial clients. After garnering enough experience in the paving industry as a contractor, he wanted to help others starting in the construction industry. His determination to equip newcomers with the knowledge, training, and guidance they need to succeed – something he had to learn the hard way – motivated him to set the foundation for the Top Contractor School. Brian is also the owner of Lead Revenue, where he brings a digital playbook that is unparalleled. They know what it takes to scale businesses digitally, regardless of the industry! He started hosting a podcast called ‘The Perspective Podcast.' He discusses a wide range of topics, including fatherhood, business, entrepreneurship, and the importance of having the proper perspective in one's personal and professional life. If 2020 showed me anything, it was were my weaknesses were as a business owner. One that was glaring to me at the end of the season was just how unorganized I was, especially in my role as the leader. I always preach efficiency to my team, but realized, I was incredibly inefficient with my tasks. One person I know, that juggles a lot of tasks and hats in this world, is my buddy Brian Hess of The Pavement Group. As the President/CEO of The Pavement Group, a national Pavement company. Brian's family is his greatest source of pride and motivation. He carves out time for them regularly, if you follow him on Social Media, you know that. Brian also runs Top Contractor School, which garners a lot of his attention. He also hosts a podcast, does speaking and coaching. So, how does he stay organized and efficient? I pick his brain and ask some questions that I think you as a listener may wonder, but also... I was asking for myself. I came away with some great takeaways from this conversation and I hope you will too. Thanks for listening and here's to 2021 being productive. -Marvin
