Validating someone's pain experiences is important for building trust, fostering understanding, and providing support. However, it's crucial to strike a balance and be mindful of the context to avoid over-validation. Here are some considerations and tips for validating a child's painful experience:   Listen Actively: Pay close attention to what the child is expressing verbally and non-verbally. Show that you are engaged and interested in their feelings by maintaining eye contact, nodding, and using verbal affirmations.   Empathize: Put yourself in the child's shoes and try to understand their perspective. Acknowledge their emotions and let them know that it's okay to feel the way they do.   Reflect Their Feelings: Repeat back what the child has shared to confirm your understanding and let them know you are actively listening. For example, say, "It sounds like you're feeling [emotion], is that right?"   Avoid Minimizing or Dismissing: Refrain from downplaying or dismissing the child's feelings. Phrases like "It's not a big deal" or "You shouldn't feel that way" can be invalidating. Instead, acknowledge their emotions without judgment.   Use Empathetic Statements: Express empathy through statements like "I can see that this is really hard for you" or "It must be tough to go through this."   Ask Open-ended Questions: Encourage the child to share more about their feelings by asking open-ended questions. This helps them feel heard and understood.   Validate Without Judging: Make it clear that it's okay for them to feel the way they do. Separate the validation of emotions from any potential actions or behaviors.   Consider Cultural and Individual Differences: Recognize that different individuals may have varying comfort levels with emotional expression. Be sensitive to cultural nuances and individual preferences.   Provide Reassurance: Reassure the child that they are not alone and that you are there to support them. Offer comfort without pressuring them to share more than they are comfortable with.   Encourage Professional Help: If the child's pain appears to be severe or if you have concerns about their well-being, consider involving a mental health professional or counselor.   While validating a child's painful experience is crucial, it's also important to be aware of potential signs of distress that may require professional intervention. Always prioritize the child's safety and well-being. Building trust and understanding takes time, so approach the process with patience and consistency.

Church planting is hard, hard work.  But, church planting is the future of the American church...for various and established reasons...1. Less than 18% of Americans attend church.  This translates to the fact that there are 156 million unchurched individuals in the United States.2.  47% of America's unchurched report that they would be open to going to church if they were invited by a friend.3.  A new church plant gains 60-80% of its eventual membership from unchurched individuals making first-time commitments to Christ.4.  Churches that employ church planting strategies grow three times faster than those that do not have planting vested within their strategic plan. Each of these numbers point to a proven fact, if the culture is ever going to find its way to a Biblical worldview, it will happen through the tireless efforts of church planters.Aryan and Alison are inspiring, funny, and very congenial.  And, they are courageous church planters.  The aptly named "His Church" launched in February 2023 and, as you'll learn today, Aryan and Alison have taken their entire testimony--trials, tragedy, and ultimately triumph--and turned it into a growing ministry. To plan your visit to His Church, please visit this link."Kingdom Culture Conversations" is a podcast created through Frameworks, a Biblical worldview initiative of Northwest Christian School. For more information on Frameworks, please visit:  https://frameworks.ncsaz.org/For more information on Northwest Christian School, visit:  https://www.ncsaz.org/To reach out to Geoff Brown, please email gbrown@ncsaz.org or you can reach him by cell phone:  (623)225-5573.

Do you make a fuss? Or tell them to “walk it off”?  Sarah Wallwork is a physiotherapist and clinical pain neuroscientist at the University of South Australia. She and her team in Adelaide conducted a study asking 18 international experts from child health, psychology, development, resilience, as well as parents and educators, what parents and caregivers can do to promote recovery and resilience after minor pains or injury.  How parents and caregivers communicate with their children about pain and injury is important to how well they're able to recover. We can help children become active participants in their recovery which leads to stronger resiliency.   Guest: Sarah Wallwork, Ph.D. (clinical pain neuroscience) Dr Wallwork is a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Body in Mind research group at the University of South Australia.  https://people.unisa.edu.au/sarah.wallwork   Contact: thepersonalitycoach@gmail.com Kate's website Kate's book on Amazon  Kate on LinkedInKate on FacebookKate on TwitterSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This episode of Words and Actions starts with Veronika mentioning that the chief adviser to the UK government, Dominic Cummings, used his blog to ask “weirdos and misfits with odd skills” and “true wild cards” to apply for a position as his personal assistant. We also made the point that how much time recruiters spend on filtering CVs is a matter of seconds. These two studies provide evidence for this claim and suggest that the initial time screening a CV has actually gone down from 30 seconds to 6 seconds:   Barnum, C. M. (1987). Writing résumés that sell. Management World, 16, 10-13. Wallwork, A. (2019). English for Academic CVs, Resumes, and Online Profiles. Springer, Cham.   As promised, here is the list of studies on unconscious bias in recruitment decisions:  https://users.ugent.be/~sbaert/research_register.htm    We focused on biased decisions with regard to ethnic background, including that indicated by names. A recent study is    Derous, E., & Ryan, A. M. (2019). When your resume is (not) turning you down: Modelling ethnic bias in resume screening. Human Resource Management Journal, 29(2), 113-130   while the following article looks at whether anonymous CVs could be a solution (spoiler: possibly, but for high-status jobs, ethnicity tends to matter less to begin with):  Lacroux, A., & Martin‐Lacroux, C. (2020). Anonymous résumés: An effective preselection method? International Journal of Selection and Assessment 28(1), 98-111.  We then talked a bit about cross-cultural differences in content, layout and language use in CVs. One study, summarised by Veronika, compares German and Italian CVs: Hepp, M. (2006). The text type "curriculum vitae" in an intercultural perspective. indications for a linguistically based german as a second language instruction at university. Studi Linguistici e Filologici Online, 4(1), 109-129. http://www.humnet.unipi.it/slifo/ [in German]   Bernard then mentioned the DISCO tool, short for European Dictionary of Skills and Competences): http://disco-tools.eu/disco2_portal/ Moving on to digital footprints and digital shadows, Bernard referred to the relevant work of his colleague Stijn Baert (who also compiled the list of studies on unconscious bias):  Baert, S. (2018). Facebook profile picture appearance affects recruiters’ first hiring decisions.  new media & society, 20(3), 1220-1239. To find out more about the consultancy business of our interview guest, Anna Marie Trester, go to https://careerlinguist.com/. Her latest book is  Trester. A. M. (2017). Bringing Linguistics to Work. A conversation about Titanium with Paul Wallwork, General Manager of Project Developer, Neometals (ASX: NMT), who helps us to understand the Titanium market and how it works. So if you are thinking of investing in the a Titanium company, you need to understand supply / demand in that market. We suggest you listen to this explanation of Ti02.We're fans of the Neometals story so far. Its patented battery recycling process looks like an intriguing way for investors to make money, and it appears to have the corporate infrastructure in place to facilitate big deals and give investors returns. The management team's track record of success extends to the Mt. Marion Lithium Project, where they timed their exit to a tee, selling their 13.8% stake for AU$103.8m. The story so far seems indicative of an encouraging idea: Neometals doesn't get involved with projects unless they are going to work.In this interview, Wallwork was also keen to talk about yet another option at Neometals' disposal: The Barrambie Titanium And Vanadium Project (Barrambie). It has been granted a mining permit and has had exploration and evaluation expenditure totalling AU$30M (courtesy of Neometals) since 2003. But not before we had made him download what he knows how the Titanium functions. So, all things titanium: it is found in nature as titanium dioxide; the most common mineral it is found within is ilmenite. When someone says titanium, most of us think of exotic supercars and fighter jets. However, the Titanium metal industry only accounts for around 5% of consumption. 90% of titanium dioxide supply is turned into a pigment, titanium white. It is used in paints, protective coatings, plastics, etc. There are plenty of big players in the titanium market, including Rio Tinto, Iluka Resources and Kenmare Resources. Companies like Tronox are big producers of titanium pigment. Where does Neometals slot into all of this?Wallwork claims the Barrambie Project has the scale, longevity and grade to stand out from the competition. Neometals also has "co-product credits." The most valuable that is found in sand deposits is zirconium. However, in the hard-rock case of Barrambie, Neometals has vanadium, which is a "valuable metal" used in the steel industry. The ore body is forecasted to produce 9,235t of FeV80 and 6,337t of V2O5 a year, with an average plant feed rate of 2.66Mtpa, over an estimated mine life of 15 years. Neometals has an additional advantage, in the form of the mining jurisdiction that Barrambie occupies, Western Australia, a safe, stable mining region. This is something that is becoming increasingly rare. While a DFS was completed in 2009, which confirmed primary vanadium production from the conventional salt roast-leach process, the Barrambie project was temporarily suspended due to stagnant vanadium prices in the six years that followed. Investors will hope Neometals can make things happen economically this time around. This will be aided by an MoU with the Institute of Multipurpose Utilization of Mineral Resources of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, which was signed in October 2019 to develop the Barrambie vanadium-titanium mine through a 50:50 joint venture. Once again, Neometals is developing a project without the shouldering the burden of CAPEX alone. We are impressed with the business minds at Neometals, who seem to keep finding answers when it comes to making developments affordable. With Neometals currently valued at AUS$100M, with a share price of AUS$0.18, dilution looks a very unlikely outcome for investors. Everything Neometals touches appears to be turning to gold at the moment, but investors will remain concerned the market is only valuing this company at cash. Neometals needs to up its marketing efforts. What did you make of Paul Wallwork and the Barrambie project? Has Neometals got what it takes to push the share price up? Comment below and we will ask your questions. And a FREE 'Not A Mug' Crux Investor mug to the first person to guess the song name and artist featured in the title of this video! It has been a news story impossible to miss for months and months. It’s called Brexit, a clever term combining “Britain” and “Exit.”  That may be all you know about it, or you may be a step ahead and know that Brexit is a fight for Britain to leave the European Union. The Brexit saga is filled with controversy and infighting that can be difficult to understand for the typical person living in London, let alone over here in the States. This week we are diving in to “Brexit For Dummies” by Nicholas Wallwork. Nicholas is an international real estate expert, in fact, he wrote a “For Dummies” book on that topic too. We’re going to lean on him to help us get a better grasp on Brexit, and why it’s so important to get right. Ron Wallwork is the 1966 Commonwealth 20 miles walk champion. On a hot day in Jamaica in 1966 Ron went on to beat the favourites Ray Middleton and Don Thompson when he decided to not take a drinks break and carry on walking to gain a lead. This move was first thought to be a bad move and would cost him the race or worse cause him not to finish, however it paid off for Ron and he went on to claim the victory. I spoke to Ron about his life and about how a champion is born. What it takes to live the life of a champion and what it takes to win on the day. Heather also talks about her work as a story artist for Disney, and - as a huge Mary Poppins fan - shares some of her thoughts about the upcoming sequel. Then we open the mailbag, discussing topics including... taking a tour of California ending at Disneyland in July; tips for booking hotels in summer 2019; D23 member benefits and studio tour advice; a listener review of Lamplight Lounge; an awkward Haunted Mansion moment that demonstrates the value of cast members; adulting alone at Disneyland; Mousetalgia's past Disney regrets; can't-miss holiday features at Disneyland; dining options for allergic eaters; and Disneyland in the sun vs. Disneyland after dark.

When our guest today, David Wallwork, was naming his birch spirit - only Freya would do. Sustainably sourced and distilled from wild birch tree sap and named for the Norse Goddess of love, life & beauty! If anyone knows anything about the Norse Goddess Freya, they know she has the reputation of being the ‘party girl” of Asgard. She can’t help it if she’s the goddess of nature and fertility. Our Cocktail of the Week is the Freya Spritz: Ingredients 10ml Elderflower cordial 25ml Freya Birch Spirit 50ml Soda Water 75ml Good dry white wine Fresh lemon and rosemary to garnish - optional. Add the elderflower to a large chilled balloon wine glass & rinse to line the glass. Half fill the glass with large ice cubes and a squeezed wedge of lemon and add in 1,2,3 ratio of 25ml of Freya Birch Spirit, 50ml soda water and 75ml of the white wine. Stir & serve. You’ll find this recipe and all the cocktails of the week on ALushLifeManual.com, where you’ll also find all the ingredients in our shop. Until next time… bottom’s up!
