Christian is in NYC to sit down and chat with renowned record collector and frontman of Endless Boogie, Paul Major. Paul is the focus of 'FEEL THE MUSIC: The Psychedelic Worlds of Paul Major' a new book chronicling his decades spent unearthing the rarest and strangest from the realms of lost heavy psych masterpieces, unheard private press loner folk jams, demented lounge artifacts and every other conceivable and inconceivable genre in between.

Timothy Showalter -- the voice and mind behind Strand of Oaks -- describes himself as a "smiling, sweaty, straight-out-of-a-river wild man" this week, and the vibrant album cover of this year's "Hard Love" encapsulates his aura so well, it nearly jumps off the shelf. His infatuation with vinyl and music in general is contagious and vast, expressing his adoration in this episode for anyone from "Weird Al" Yankovic to Endless Boogie. Today, we also discuss the crazy night that led to the cover photo for "Hard Love," why having his face on his album covers plays into his joy of digging for vinyl, what some of his discography is going for online (and why he won't buy anything on vinyl over the internet), what the best sounding album in his collection is, loaning Basic Cable Band leader Jimmy Vivino his guitar when Strand of Oaks recently played Conan, his obsession with dub music, whether one can truly be present while listening to music alone, and much more! Visit StrandOfOaks.net for tour dates, social media, etc.
Here’s Rob and Callum with a new music podcast; for an hour or so we’re the leaders of this audio live-in cult… We’re not as charismatic as your classic late 60s cult leader, nor do we look like Dennis Wilson and we can’t offer up the company of natural beauties living pure from the land but we do have some good records to play you.Endless Boogie are here with 8 hypnotising minutes of fuzzy guitar and Paul Major’s cool drawl, 31Ø8 provide some ace baggy pop (rare in 2017), Halasan Bazar sound like their own psych-folk cult on ‘Freak’, Joan Shelley continues to be our go-to for folk and there’s some jazz from Chip Whickham. Plenty more else to enjoy too, join our family and give us the good itunes ratings.
Endless Boogie was never supposed to become a band. It was made up of some guys who worked at Matador Records, one in particular who loved to collect old vinyl. Frontman Paul Major and guitarist Jesper Eklow tell Marc what it took to put the mother of all jam bands together and how the band's style is influenced by Paul's nearly obsessive practice of collecting rare LPs. The Freaks invite Jesper Eklow of Soldiers of Fortune and Endless Boogie in for an hour of unheard demos and "shit rock." No Joy call in from the van and talk tour eats, and we debut the latest from Quilt + Connan Mockasin / Devonté Hynes.
