Lucy Peach is back on the show. Lucy is an award-winning musician and menstrual cycle educator who has been empowering people to embrace their natural rhythms through her show, My Greatest Period Ever and book, Period Queen. But here's the twist: this interview isn't just me chatting with Lucy.My eldest daughter, Annika, is stepping into the interviewer's seat as part of her school's 'Changemaker' project to ask Lucy questions about how to navigate and embrace her menstrual cycle. This conversation is especially important because understanding the menstrual cycle isn't just about biology—it's about building empathy, fostering healthier relationships, and creating supportive environments for the people we care about. For us dads, this awareness can be transformative. It can help us better connect with our partners, support our daughters as they grow, and even model open, informed discussions about topics that have been taboo for far way too long.So I hope you enjoy as Annika takes the lead in what promises to be an inspiring and potentially eye-opening conversation with Lucy Peach.Big HugRichCheck out Lucy's website here.If you'd like to listen to the initial interview with Lucy, click here, it's a corker! 2023 was quite a year and re-listening to many of the episodes I have realised just how much gold I have forgotten. So I've pulled out some highlights for you as a bit of an aide memoire.* Senior maverick at Wired Magazine, Kevin Kelly, discusses things he wish he'd done more of with his kids.* Author and adventurer, Beau Miles on trusting yourself.* One of the things that we all going to have to contend with at sometime or other is death and grief and the chat I had with thanatologist, Cole Imperi was really helpful in preparing for how to discuss those difficult things with out kids in a way that is clear and supportive.* When it comes to being deliberate CEO of Bellroy, Andy Fallshaw, helped describe the importance of defining our values and updating our beliefs.* Considering 50% of the people we know and love experience periods it was insightful hearing about the menstrual cycle from author and musician, Lucy Peach.* Following on from this theme we chatted with Nutritionist and naturopath, Stacey Curcio about the changes that happen at the other end of the spectrum from puberty for women, perimenopause.* Last but not least we had educator, author, mother and parenting counsellor, Lael Stone imparting her wisdom around looking beneath the behaviour.2023 was also a year of travel for us and one of the things that worked really well when we were on the road was the kids each had Spriggy debit cards. So instead of them borrowing our debit cards to pay for things, especially as cash is something we hardly use ourselves now, they each have a card that has their pocket money pre-paid onto. All of which can be checked through an app on your phone. You can even give access to family and grandparents etc in case they want to give money to the kids as well.If you're in Australia and looking for a way to better manage how your kids deal with pocket money and spending I can't recommend Spriggy enough. If you'd like to give it a go it's usually $30 to get a card for each child but if you click this link you can get $20 back when you sign up.Big hugRich Get full access to The Dad Mindset at www.thedadmindset.com/subscribe

However, I would like to credit people that passed on these songs to me, either in person or through their records. I learned "Pusta mladost" from Kasia Pakosa, "Rasti, rasti moj zeleni bore" from Laboratorium Pieśni, "Letila zozula" from Drewo, "Jurija ustavai rana" from Olga Jemialjanczyk and "Oj, gorzaline pilbym" from Zofia Bernad. If You Want to Find Emotional Resilience In Each Phase of Your Cycle, You Should: Reframe how you view the four stages of your period and the unique peaks and valleys in each one Embrace and recognize what you need at different times of the month Listen to your body and trust your body to send you signals as to what it needs Track your cycle to help you plan for what your body needs at each phase of the month   We have talked about how to honor your body through the four different stages of your menstrual cycle, but have you ever considered how to honor your emotions? You can harness your menstrual cycle to create more energy, joy, and confidence for yourself by embracing the emotional changes that happen throughout the four phases of your menstrual cycle.  By understanding and honoring what is going on with you through every part of your cycle, you can cultivate the most important relationship in your life, the one with yourself.   It Is Time to Invest in Yourself Lucy Peach is a period preacher from Perth, Australia. With a background in human biology, sexual health education, and performance art, she combines these facets to empower and inspire people with periods to see their cycles as a strength. Lucy works to help women and youth embrace the roughly 450 periods a woman will have throughout her life so they can permit themselves to invest their energy into themselves every month.   Removing the Stigma Around Periods Have you ever felt ashamed that you are not feeling the same all month long? Lucy wants you to know that you are meant to feel different at every part of your cycle and that it is not a bad thing. Every month you have the opportunity to practice your power and get to the bottom of who you are at every phase of the cycle. It can sometimes feel like everyone around us wants us to be in the middle part of our cycle, but we should really be embracing the good in every part of our cycle. Knowing where you are and asking for what you need so that you can use your best power every day of the month is the key to taking back control of your mental capacity.   Taking Back Power by Listening to Yourself Lucy is on a mission to change the way we think about periods and empower other women to change the legacy of how we think about our bodies and embrace them going forward.  Tracking your cycle can help you plan your activities so that you show up with your best foot forward at any time of the month. Knowing what day you are at in your cycle, checking in and tuning into your body, and giving yourself what you need, is how you can use your cycle for good and open the door for more joy, self-confidence, and self-care. How are you working to reframe the way you think about periods and embrace the emotional power that comes with each phase of the menstrual cycle? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section of the episode page.   Quotes: “What if actually you were enough every single day of the month, but you just had a different skill set for that time?”  (13:33) “It’s not a one size fits all. This is a lens to look at yourself through and to really just ask yourself, ‘Where am I? What do I need? What is my superpower today?’.” (20:49) “You’ve got these phases, you might as well use them. You’re going to do this, potentially 450 times, so you get another bite of the cherry every month to explore what you are like when you are at your slowest and quietest, what are you like when you are at your biggest and most extroverted? And how can I really understand myself when I am premenstrual and turning my back on the world, and what can I take before I have to do it all over again?” (34:24) “This whole need to be everything to everybody all of the time is exhausting. We all know that, men know that. But if you can use the menstrual cycle as a kind of tool or a guide, then you can see that you definitely don't need to be the same every day emotionally, because look at what is going on hormonally.” (38:37) “At a woman's first bleeding, she meets her power. This month's chat is with the delightful & insightful Lucy Peach, author of the book Period Queen. Hailing from Fremantle WA, Lucy is a folk singer, performer & a long time champion of the power of the menstrual cycle. We love the way Lucy talks about the period and the invitation that is present in each stage of that cycle. This conversation was had in October last year for our current issue of Dumbo Feather magazine, which is all about rest and the cycles that we are both part of and are part of us. If you dig the topics that come up, then definitely pick up a copy of the mag - either at your local retailer or online over at dumbofeather.com. Lucy is chatting with our publisher and editor in chief, the joyful & always on point, Berry Liberman.

To begin with, Em's putting out a call to action over the cutting down of a sacred 350-year-old Djab Wurrung Directions Tree in Victoria, it's a devastating loss for our Indigenous community and it's important to understand why, and what we can do to help prevent further sacred trees from suffering the same fate. Then there's the strangeness of no longer being in lockdown for Victorians to process, as Em and Michael step cautiously  into their new found freedom, there's naturally been a lot of emotional cycles we've had to process over that time. There's the reaction to Em's appearance on the podcast of her ex-boss to work through, with Em revealing the exact truth about her emotional state after she recorded it. Hot tip, she was in the depths of despair ‘bout it, thankfully Michael is well schooled in how to handle those moments and always has a plan for when Em is feeling that way. How ace are best friends who get you and know how to help us reset when we're feeling meh. There's some US chat to follow that, with a rather bleak prediction from the Magical Unicorn of Death, which figures, what with the name and all, anyway she's officially announcing it, she thinks Donald Trump is actually going to steal the election. That's not all the magically horned prancer of doom is dropping either, she also outlines exactly how she thinks Trump will do it too. There's also what the appointment of Amy Coney Barrett as a Supreme Court Judge will ultimately mean for the US to mull over, and whilst the Enchanted Seahorse of Hope is maintaining that Biden can do it, the Magical Unicorn is having none of it, and totes reckons Trump will abscond with it. Em would also like to add a footnote that she's super excited about her Emsolation Conversation that's dropping Friday featuring Lucy Peach. Lucy is a period preacher and she has a life hack for people with cycles, so you can learn to harness the power of your ovulation and menstruation cycles and basically become super humans, so no biggy, but also….gaaaa get excited. Also it should be noted that this upcoming episode is for anyone who loves anyone with a cycle, it's not just for people who get periods. It's designed for ANYONE to listen to, so you can understand that mystical thing that we never talk about, mostly because of shame around our bodies and how they naturally function, so DON'T be afraid to listen, learn and enjoy it with us together.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. Singer and performer Lucy Peach unlocks the mysteries and myths to reveal the power of the menstrual cycle. In this very open, insightful and humorous conversation Lucy expands on her TEDx talk about 4 stages of the monthly female cycle and how, by recognising them, they can each be individually harnessed. Lucy goes deep on how periods are characterised and portrayed and how fusing her knowledge together with her story telling and performing background is changing that. She also provides greater insight for men to consider their own cycles, understanding the cycles of their female partners and how it can strengthen relationships. Lucy talks her life as singer and performer. This is a hugely insightful and entertaining conversation that provokes the listener to also consider the cyclical nature of the human existence more broadly from the normalised status quo we often all work to. There’s also a very amusing finish to the podcast as well.Harness more of your cyclical power with Lucy at:Website: www.lucypeachmusic.comTEDx: www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2c17e5naowFacebook: www.facebook.com/lucypeachInstagram: www.instagram.com/lucyspeaches/
