Fascism is scary AF but it's always been ripe for satire, so as counter programming to this week's RNC, we're pairing strains with two sendups of strutting authoritarians with THE ANTIFA EPISODE, aka the F--K FASCISM EPISODE. Hitler was named chancellor of Germany in January 1933, and the Marx Brothers spoofed the shit out of him by the end of the year with DUCK SOUP, which is widely considered to be their greatest work. Groucho is Roofus T. Firefly, who is installed on the throne of of Freedonia by wealthy widow Mrs. Teasdale (Margaret Hamilton). The plot hardly matters though, as it's all about the classic mirror gag, Harpo taking an oversized pair of scissors to everything he can lay his hands on, and the stellar word play between Chico and Groucho. Directed by Leo McCarey (AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER) with a surprising amount of musical numbers. FREEDONIA! FREEDONIA! Then we pay tribute to Roger Corman with DEATH RACE 2000, his cult hit about a future fascist America where David Carradine, Mary Woronov, and Sylvester Stallone compete in a coast-to-coast race where they score points by running over hapless pedestrians in their rad muscle cars. Bob saw this at the Redwood City Drive In when he was 7-years-old and it's safe to say that the satire went waaaay over his head back then. Also featuring Martin Kove (KOBRA KAI) and Wendy Dio (wife of Ronnie James), and directed by the great Paul Bartel. Bob also tells you what he really thought of Kevin Costner's HORIZON, beardless Cory reveals the terrible new Paramount logo, Philena blames everything on people born in 1999, and Bob wonders what the hell is wrong with Generation X. Plus, it's FREEE SLURPEE DAY! This week it's a special Metal Edition of Baxie's Musical Podcast. Baxie talks to the Wendy Dio--the widow of the late Ronnie James Dio. Wendy not only talks about his time in Black Sabbath and Rainbow, she also talks about his incredibly successful solo career. We also talk about the new "Holy Diver" box set (now available on Rhino Records) and about his death in 2010. You can listen on Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud, Stitcher, Spotify, and on the Rock102 website!
As you can see, lots going on today on Talkin' Rock. A couple weeks back, I talked with drummer Vinnie Appice about this new Dio Super Deluxe Holy Diver album. Now, it's Wendy Dio's turn. We talk about the album, Stranger Things, and tons more. (around the 12 minute mark) Ray West is up next. I hung with him this past weekend in Detroit, as he sang for the legendary George Lynch. We talked about the two gigs and where it stands now. Ray filled me in on the talks with George, and what's happening moving forward. We talk about Spread, the 90s and much, much more. (around the 42 minute mark) Jason Bieler rounds out this non-award winning podcast. He's dropping a new single this week. We talk about that and his plans for the next record. We talk teleprompters, musical gifts, upcoming gigs and more, in this funny conversation. Enjoy! -Meltdown- https://wrif.com/podcasts/talkin-rock-with-meltdown/

When you talk about legendary metal vocalists, there is no denying that Ronnie James Dio stands at the top of that list! While small in stature, he had a voice of epic proportions, fueling bands such as Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his own band Dio to huge success!! Not to mention HE is that man who popularized throwin' the horns!! And now, coinciding with what would have been his 80th birthday, his widow Wendy has released a new remixed version of his debut solo album “Holy Diver” with tons of extras, live tracks and more!! Bottom line, we loved and still love Dio…and getting the chance to talk to Wendy this morning was, as always, a special time!
We are delighted to have #WendyDio, widow and longtime manager of the late great #RonnieJamesDio with us!
