The hemp event of the summer is taking place in Raleigh, North Carolina, July 15-17. It's the Global Industrial Hemp Fiber Summit, hosted by the Wilson College of Textiles, in conjunction with the National Industrial Hemp Council. This week on the Hemp Show, we'll talk to the lead organizer of the event, Guy Carpenter. Unlike other events focused on industrial hemp, this summit centers squarely on hemp fiber and the industries that are growing up around fiber: textiles, apparel, denim, upholstery, non-wovens, construction, hempcrete, insulation, acoustic panels, automotive, biocomposites, door panels, dashboards, paper, packaging, bioenergy, bioplastics and more. Just don't expect cannabinoids, CBD, Delta-8, hemp-derived intoxicants, or any discussion of the floral side of cannabis. According to Carpenter, this event is all about building the fiber industry. "If you have any interest whatsoever in starting a business in our industry and figuring out how to make it work and also figuring out what are the starting points, what are the roadblocks, what are the opportunities … this is the place to be,” he said. The three-day event will include panel discussions with industry experts, as well as field trips to NC State hemp fields, local manufacturing centers and the largest and newest hemp processing facility on the East Coast, recently opened by Biophil Natural Fibers in Lumberton, North Carolina. Carpenter said the summit will cover “everything from seed to decortication … whatever type of segment of the fiber you want to use, we're going to have people here who are experts at it." Carpenter has dedicated his life to natural fibers. He's worked in fashion and apparel, international textile manufacturing, and policy development. After the Army and the Peace Corps, his professional journey in the apparel industry took him all over the world, eventually studying hemp fiber production in China. His vast industry knowledge is a pivotal resource as his home state of North Carolina ramps up hemp for textiles. He brings an unmatched experience and credibility as the organizer of the summit. Carpenter said this event follows in the tradition of the Montana Hemp Summit, hosted by IND Hemp in previous years, which means the summit will be less of a celebration of hemp and more of a working session to move the industry forward, and the people who attend are the people building the industry. “They're not just out there promoting hemp for its magical powers or its halo of goodness… but figuring out ways to make money from it,” he said. “This is the place to be." Emma O'Donnell was nominated as a Beck's Player with Heart for her commitment and passion on and off the field and court. Her favorite part about being in high school sports is being with her friends, going on long bus rides, and creating memories she can tell her future kids about. She enjoys how much she has grown and matured throughout sports. She can learn a lot about taking accountability and personal development. Throughout her high school career, she has faced many challenges, from injuries to mental battles. Over her years in many sports, she has learned to talk to coaches even when she was afraid. In a way, this has helped her grow as a person and understand what the next stage of life will be like. Emma has competed in volleyball and track and field all for four years and was a team captain this year on her volleyball team. She has been involved in FFA since her eighth-grade year. She has been lucky enough to attend state for CDE every year and win many district competitions. Additionally, she has been on her land and range teams over the years and will be attending nationals this April, representing the state of South Dakota. Emma has also been a member of Yearbook for the past two years and has participated in her school's one-act play. Outside of school and sports, you can find Emma volunteering at her local community with various activities such as cleaning and decorating her local church and tying blankets to donate to people in need. Her basketball and volleyball teams volunteer each year to host a camp for elementary school kids to come and improve their skills. She works on the volunteer ambulance as a cadet to help EMTs and she has also helped at the local Lemmon Jr. Livestock Show. Agriculture has always been a huge part of Emma's life. She has lived on her family farm and ranch her entire life, and it's made her who she is today. She has been through agricultural hardships and successes, which has made her see the beauty and lessons through it all. Working in agriculture, she has learned many life skills and her father has instilled in her a good work ethic. Emma plans to attend BSC to pursue a degree in diagnostic medical sonography. She will also get her realtor license to help her family farm and ranch by selling and buying land and renting out land. After completing her degree, she plans to return to a rural community to give back to small communities in great need of medical help. She believes that growing up in a small community teaches the value of helping others. Throughout her years in Lemmon, she has seen the community rally around to help fundraise or donate to someone in need, and she hopes to one day move to a small community and be a member who helps others out.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

It's the second season finale of the New York Yankees Official Podcast, and before we raise the curtain on the 2025 season, we have one more great episode to close out the spring. Yoendrys Gómez might not be a household name yet, but he has been on the Yankees' prospect list for years, and this past offseason, as he tells Yankees Magazine deputy editor Jon Schwartz, he did something no Yankees big leaguer ever has before. Gómez graduated from the team's Dominican Academy, walking in the ceremony and receiving his high school diploma; while several of his teammates have done this before, none has while appearing on the 40-man roster. Gómez and Schwartz talk all about the Yankees' Dominican operation, plus the pitcher's goals for 2025. Then Yankees Magazine executive editor Nathan Maciborski zooms in to chat about World Series grand slams and some other stories coming in the team's official 2025 Yearbook. Finally, Yankees senior museum curator opens the History Books for a great lesson on Luis Arroyo. This week's episode is brought to you by Margaritaville-at-Sea. What's better than watching spring training in Florida? Extending it into a tropical vacation, of course. Hit your next trip out of the park! More Top Global Sustainable Stocks includes articles by financial analysts at S&P and Morningstar. Plus, links to two more articles! By Ron Robins, MBA Transcript & Links, Episode 148, February 21, 2025 Hello, Ron Robins here. Welcome to my podcast episode 148, published February 21, 2025, titled “More Top Global Sustainable Stocks.” It's presented by Investing for the Soul. Investingforthesoul.com is your site for vital global ethical and sustainable investing mentoring, news, commentary, information, and resources. Remember that you can find a full transcript and links to content – including stock symbols and bonus material – on this episode's podcast page at investingforthesoul.com/podcasts. Also, a reminder. I do not evaluate any of the stocks or funds mentioned in these podcasts, and I don't receive any compensation from anyone covered in these podcasts. Furthermore, I will reveal any investments I have in the investments mentioned herein. Additionally, quotes about individual companies are brief. Please go to this podcast's webpage for links to the articles and more company and stock information. ------------------------------------------------------------- More Top Global Sustainable Stocks (1) I'm beginning with this insightful article titled 10 Key Sustainable-Investing Themes and Companies. The referenced overview is by Martin Vezer on morningstar.com. Here are some quotes by Mr. Vezer from his article. “Morningstar Sustainalytics' analysts recently highlighted 10 environmental, social and governance themes that they believe will affect corporate value chains in 2025. For each theme, we profiled one publicly listed company that is leading its industry on addressing the ESG issues we identified. 10 Stocks From Sustainalytics 1. Power-Hungry Data Centers: A Dilemma for Big Tech We compare the carbon intensity of some of the largest software & services players, helping investors identify AI players in the subindustry that are leading in terms of mitigating carbon risks. Among the seven companies that we sample, IBM (IBM) stands out for having reduced its carbon intensity by 30% from 2020 to 2023. 2. Green Energy Demand: A Boon for Utilities The adoption of generative AI across various sectors introduces a new set of concerns regarding its energy footprint and the rapid growth of power demand for data centers… As a renewable power producer, EDP Renováveis (EDRVY) has maintained its very low carbon intensity from generation activities over the years. Its overall carbon intensity is also in line with that of its subindustry peers. 3. AI Innovation Boosts Gains for Healthcare AI adoption across the healthcare and biopharmaceutical industries has been proliferating in recent years, targeting both cost cuts and innovation gains that are meant to expand and accelerate patient access to quality care, as well as to new therapies and treatment options. Pfizer (PFE) stands out for utilizing AI not only for drug discovery and development but also to monitor medicine and vaccine safety and to improve its supply chain. 4. AI in Oil & Gas Bolsters Efficiency and Innovation AI has been an important tool for the oil and gas industry for years, but recent advancements are transforming decision-making and have the potential to meaningfully reduce environmental impacts and improve safety… Baker Hughes (BKR) is among the oil and gas firms applying AI-driven software to streamline production and reduce emissions. 5. Banks Play a Critical Role in Transition Finance The growth of transition finance represents an opportunity for banks to diversify the risks of their loan books and safeguard the sustainability of their business models. Barclays (BCS) is the only bank out of the 10 large banks we analyzed that has set a credible sustainable and transition financing target of USD 1 trillion by 2030. 6. Resilient Infrastructure Is Climate-Smart Investing Recent weather and climate-related catastrophes, such as the Los Angeles fires, Hurricane Ian in Florida, and flooding in Valencia, Spain, highlight the intensifying risks that extreme weather events have on the construction industry. Aecom (ACM) is an interesting case study because it generates 60% of its revenue from sustainable products and services and has developed many of its initial green infrastructure projects globally, such as the first LEED-certified airport terminal in the US. These projects are backed by a broad offering of climate adaptation services, including natural disaster preparedness reviews. 7. Lithium Boom Brings New Challenges Clean technologies, such as solar panels and electric vehicles, are highly dependent on lithium-ion batteries for energy storage. Investors with carbon-and water-related goals may consider opting for lithium for a lower environmental impact and lower ESG risks. Vulcan Energy Resources (VULNF) is engaged in projects to extract and process battery-grade lithium hydroxide, in addition to producing renewable geothermal energy. 8. Building Responsible Food Supply Chains Human rights violations expose firms to material risks, including fines, reputational harm, and operational disruptions that erode shareholder value. Compared with other subindustries, packaged foods and food retail have been involved in a disproportionately large number of incidents related to human rights abuses in their supply chains. Lindt (CHLSY) demonstrates the relatively strong management of these issues. The firm has a robust human rights policy for suppliers and actionable initiatives to support it. Despite an August 2022 controversy linked to child labor in its Ghana cocoa supply chain—a challenge faced by most cocoa companies—Lindt remains transparent and proactively collaborates with local communities to create tailored mitigation and remediation programs. 9. A Future With Less Plastics Fast-moving consumer goods firms (for example, packaged foods and personal products) that invest in advanced technologies, such as chemical recycling to produce more postconsumer recycled packaging or venturing in biodegradables such as cornstarch or bamboo packaging to replace single-use plastics, are likely to see increased demand and growth. Among our sample of 11 consumer goods companies, L'Oréal (LRLCY) had relatively few plastics incidents in recent years and performs well on our measures of solid waste management. 10. Alcohol-Free Beverages Are Growing The industry is undervalued; the average share price in our sample of 26 beer, wine, and spirits firms is trading 20% below Morningstar's fair price value as of November 2024. Asahi Group (ASBRF) a leading Japanese brewer, has set several targets to expand its no-and low-alcohol portfolio, and we note that it is one of the few companies in the sample that provides some transparency into its nonalcoholic beer revenue. To learn more about these themes and the companies noted above, download the report here.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- More Top Global Sustainable Stocks (2) This next article titled S&P Global 2025 Sustainability Yearbook is a highly referenced ranking of sustainably oriented companies around the world. It's by S&P and found on spglobal.com. Here are some quotes by S&P concerning some aspects of its rankings. “The Sustainability Yearbook distinguishes companies within their industries that have each demonstrated strengths in corporate sustainability. Yearbook members and distinction levels are selected based on their 2024 Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) Score, which is the S&P Global ESG Score without the inclusion of any modeling approaches. The selection process also reflects exclusion screening criteria. Distinctions are calculated against the top performing company in each industry, and exclusions applied thereafter. Distinction level and Scores are industry specific. 780 companies made it into the Sustainability Yearbook. As of January 22, 2025, over 7,690 companies assessed for the 2024 Corporate Sustainability Assessment were considered for inclusion in The Sustainability Yearbook 2025. This year, only 780 companies made it into the Sustainability Yearbook.” End quotes. Note: companies are divided into Top 1%, 5%, and 10% of S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment Scores. Among the well-known companies are Coca-Cola HBC AG (CCH.L), Iberdrola, S.A. (IBE.MC), and Ingersoll Rand Inc. (IR) Non-US companies appear to be the majority on the list. Anyone looking for geographical diversification in their sustainable portfolio(s) should find these rankings useful. ------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Article Links Title: 3 Renewable-Energy Stocks That Could Thrive Under Trump on barrons.com. When perusing a career in writing, author Chad Sanders didn't fully anticipate the personal cost of writing about Black pain. The screenwriter, public speaker and host of the Yearbook podcast, joins host Krys Boyd to discuss what he learned about being a Black writer for audiences hungry for stories about race and racism, and the unexpected toll that took on him emotionally. rWotD Episode 2833: Discworld Diary Welcome to Random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia’s vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Tuesday, 4 February 2025 is Discworld Diary. The Discworld Diaries are a series of themed diaries based on the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. Each one (except the 2008 diary) is based on an Ankh-Morpork institution, and has an opening section containing information about that institution written by Pratchett and Stephen Briggs. The diaries feature a great deal of background information, far more than could reasonably be put into the novels. However, some of this occasionally finds its way into the series proper - the concept of female assassins, the introduction of Black Widow House, and the characters of Miss Alice Band and Mme les Deux-Épées were notable ideas that first appeared in the Assassins' Guild Yearbook, and later in the Discworld short story "Minutes of the Meeting to Form the Proposed Ankh-Morpork Federation of Scouts" in A Blink of the Screen, to then becoming characters and a playable Assassins' Guild House in Discworld MUD.The early diaries are illustrated by Paul Kidby. Those for 2015 and 2016 were by Pratchett aided and abetted by the Discworld Emporium, with additional illustrations by Peter DennisThe diaries are:Discworld's Unseen University Diary 1998 (1997); the cover art features the character Death, possibly the character who appeared in the greatest number of Discworld novels.Discworld's Ankh-Morpork City Watch Diary 1999 (1998); the cover art features the character Commander Samuel Vimes of the Watch, His Grace the Duke of Ankh, in his beloved street uniform, in other words, battered Watchman armor.Discworld Assassins' Guild Yearbook and Diary 2000 (1999); the cover art features the character Lord Downey, the Assassins' Guild leader, with his specialty peppermint (rumored poisoned).Discworld Fools' Guild Yearbook and Diary 2001 (2000); the cover art features Dr Whiteface, the Fools' Guild leader, bursting through a paper hoop.Discworld Thieves' Guild Yearbook and Diary 2002 (2001); the cover art features a "photofit" of Mr Boggis, the Thieves' Guild leader.Discworld (Reformed) Vampyre's Diary 2003 (2002); the cover art features Mr John Not-A-Vampire-At-All Smith, head of the Ankh-Morpork Mission of the Black Ribboners with a cup of steaming brown liquid, likely coffee or hot cocoa.Ankh-Morpork Post Office Handbook Diary 2007 (2006); the cover art features Moist von Lipwig, the Postmaster of the Ankh-Morpork Post Office, wearing his token golden suit and wingèd hat, with Lipwigzers on either side of him.Lu Tze's Yearbook of Enlightenment 2008 (2007); the cover art features Lu-Tze in the lotus position, with his broom in front of him, against a square with the phrase "It won't get better if you pick it" (from the Way of Mrs Cosmopolite).2015 Discworld Diary. First & Last Aid. We R Igors (2014); cover art features Igor.2016 Discworld Diary: A Practical Manual for the Modern Witch (2015); the cover art depicts Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax drawn by Peter DennisThe Terry Pratchett Diary. Terry Pratchett & Friends (2016), aided & abetted by the Discworld Emporium. Illustrations by Peter Dennis. Introduction by Rhianna Pratchett and contributions by Neil Gaiman, Dr Pat Harkin, A. S. Byatt, Professor David Lloyd, Roger Peyton, Colin Smythe, Bernard Pearson, Paul Kidby, Stephen Baxter, Sandra Kidby, Amy Anderson, Jennifer Brehl, Philippa Dickinson, Maddy Prior, Ian Stewart, Malcolm Edwards, Stephen Briggs and Rob Wilkins. Only the dates are given, not the days of the week, so it is suitable for use in any year. The Ankh-Morpork Archives Vol. 1 (2019) and Vol. 2 (2020); anthologies of material written for the Discworld Diaries. There were no diaries published for the years 2004-2006, and 2009-2015; The Discworld Almanak by Pratchett and Bernard Pearson was published in 2004.Due to their limited edition nature, Discworld Diaries become increasingly valuable as they grow older. As of 2016, the 1998 Discworld's Unseen University Diary was available for around £90.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:27 UTC on Tuesday, 4 February 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Discworld Diary on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm long-form Patrick.

On Episode 910 of Hittin' Season, host John Stolnis of The Good Phight and BillyPenn.com discusses the release of the 2024 Phillies video yearbook entitled "Chasing Greatness" and why he couldn't bear to watch it yet. Also, at what point might the Phils get interested in outfield free agents Anthony Santander and/or Jurickson Profar? MLB Network says Brandon Marsh is the 6th-best center fielder in baseball (!!!) and how the front office will likely handle the seven Phils who are out of options in 2025.

It's official. Two years in a row makes it a tradition. The Reading Culture Yearbook is here. It's the year end celebratory episode where we look back and highlight some of our favorite moments in the form of awarding superlatives. Or, as we dubbed them last year and seemingly forgot, “The Readies”.This year's edition features awards such as “Best [Not] Meet Cute”, the “Owning It Award”, the “Merriam-Webster Award” (alternatively titled “most likely to know more words than Merriam-Webster”), and “The Teen Whisperer Award”.And just like last year, we promise to make you laugh, and potentially cry depending on how quickly you reach for the tissues.***Connect with Jordan and The Reading Culture @thereadingculturepod and subscribe to our newsletter at thereadingculturepod.com/newsletter.
