Is your newborn wide awake at night, but sleeps peacefully all afternoon? You're likely dealing with day/night confusion, a completely normal—but totally exhausting—part of early parenthood. In this episode, pediatric sleep and wellness coach Allison Egidi breaks down: What day/night confusion really is and why it happens The simple environmental changes that help your baby reset their internal clock How to use light and dark to gently guide your newborn's circadian rhythm How long it can take to "fix" day/night confusion When and how to start capping naps What “progress” actually looks like during this phase (hint: small wins matter!) You'll also learn why this is a temporary developmental phase, and how consistent day/night signaling can help it resolve sooner—often by 6 weeks of age. If you're in the thick of it, Allison's guidance will help you feel reassured and empowered as you support your baby's sleep development from the start. ✨ If you found this episode helpful, don't forget to subscribe and leave a review. In the current landscape of geopolitical volatility and policy uncertainty, we're hearing stakeholders use the term “back to basics” to describe their approach to sustainability. In this episode of the All Things Sustainable podcast, we bring you interviews with three speakers from the annual S&P Global Sustainable1 Summit who describe how businesses are navigating this environment. We sit down with Jessica Fries, executive chair of accounting for Sustainability (A4S), a not-for-profit that works with finance leaders to drive resilient business models and achieve a sustainable economy. She explains how financial decisionmakers are balancing near-term financial pressures with longer-term sustainability goals. “We don't see business leaders and finance leaders backing down from those long-term goals. I think everyone is very clear of the consequences of a failure to act with the kind of scale and speed that we need on climate and nature,” she says. We talk to Min Guan about how some companies are taking a pragmatic approach to balancing different energy sources and supply chains in the transition to a low-carbon economy. Min is head of systems insights at the Energy Transitions Commission, a global coalition of leaders across business, finance and the NGO space committed to reaching net-zero by 2050. She is also a director at sustainability consultancy and investment firm Systemiq. And we hear directly from an energy company grappling with this balancing act in an interview with Alex Grant, UK country manager for Norway-based Equinor. The company is the largest supplier of energy to Europe and has a portfolio that includes oil and gas, renewables and low-carbon solutions. Alex calls net-zero by 2050 the company's “guiding star” but says the path won't be straightforward. “The energy transition is going to be bumpy,” he says. “What does that mean in practicalities? It means investing across the energy space.” Listen to podcast coverage of the 2025 CERAWeek conference hosted by S&P Global here: https://www.spglobal.com/esg/podcasts/energy-transition-discussions-shift-to-pragmatism-amid-policy-uncertainty Learn more about the S&P Global Sustainable1 Summit in Singapore June 26, 2025: https://www.spglobal.com/esg/events/sustainable1-summit-2025 Learn more about S&P Global's Energy Transition data here: https://www.spglobal.com/esg/solutions/energy-transition?utm_source=All+Things+Sustainable+podcast&utm_medium=libsyn&utm_campaign=HSBCS1Summit&utm_id=All+Things+Sustainable+podcast This piece was published by S&P Global Sustainable1 and not by S&P Global Ratings, which is a separately managed division of S&P Global. Could we save billions by simply reducing energy waste? How can we power the vast, energy-hungry growth of AI without sacrificing climate goals? And is Europe doomed to high energy costs and deindustrialisation? This week on Cleaning Up, Michael Liebreich sits down with Jonathan Maxwell, CEO and founder of Sustainable Development Capital LLP (SDCL), for the third time on Cleaning Up. Jonathan shares his perspective on the urgent need to address energy efficiency and waste, drawing from the themes explored in his book "The Edge." Jonathan and Michael delve into SDCL's innovative approach to providing on-site energy solutions that deliver cheaper, cleaner, and more reliable power to businesses, industries, and public institutions. Jonathan explains how their focus on distributed generation and decentralised energy systems is transforming the way organisations think about and manage their energy needs. Finally, policy. Jonathan and Michael discuss the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act in the US (and the potential turmoil from recent election results), the European Union's Green Deal, how these initiatives can be further strengthened by a greater emphasis on energy efficiency and productivity, and what the West needs to catch China. Leadership Circle Cleaning Up is supported by the Leadership Circle, and its founding members: Actis, EcoPragma Capital, EDP of Portugal, Eurelectric, the Gilardini Foundation, KKR, National Grid, Octopus Energy, Quadrature Climate Foundation, SDCL and Wärtsilä. Alex Grant's new book Sex, Spies and Scandal The John Vassall Affair has everything: a honey trap, industrial-scale espionage, journalists jailed for not revealing their sources and the first modern tabloid witch-hunt, which resulted in a ministerial resignation and almost brought down Harold Macmillan's government. With access to newly released MI5 files and interviews with people who knew Vassall from the 1950s until he died in 1996, this book sheds new light on a neglected spy scandal. Despite having been drugged and sexually assaulted by the KGB in Moscow, as a gay man John Vassall was shown no mercy by the British press or the courts. Sentenced to eighteen years in jail, he served ten years, despite telling MI5 everything. Once released, he found that many of his old friends and lovers had been persecuted or dismissed from the civil service in Britain, America and Australia. Unlike the Cambridge Five, who courted attention, after leaving prison Vassall changed his name to avoid the media and lived quietly in London. FOLLOW UP: RIFTER NOT BERLINGO, BAD ANDREWDuring the Year of unintended consequences - 19 December 2023 episode, Andrew stated that Alex Grant has an e-Berlingo, which is incorrect. Alex has the more stylish e-Rifter, which shares a lot of the platform but is not the same. Apologies Alex, Andrew has been suitably chastised for his error. FOLLOW UP: WELSH 20MPH LIMIT TO NOW BE ENFORCEDThe Welsh Government has stated that the newly introduced default 20mph speed limit, for built up areas, will be enforced from this month onwards. Depressingly, the article we link to, on the BBC News site which you can read by clicking here, has several quotes making it explicit that in Wales at least, compliance equals safety. Speed cameras will be installed in areas where it is deemed that too many are breaking the limit, rather than where there are accident blackspot as has been the norm. DECEMBER AND FULL YEAR NEW CAR REGISTRATIONSOnce again we note so many have trouble with the difference between new car registrations and sales. They are not the same. The good news is that registrations rose 17.9% on 2022, but still it is way down on the Before Times, approximately 17.5% down. We always need to put these figures into context. A lot of positive fuss was made about the volume of battery electric cars (BEV) which is impressively up, but the percentage of those registered is down for both December and 2023. Some of this may be due to holding back vehicles with 2024 and the Zero Emission Vehicle mandate about to land. More of a concern will be Private registrations that fell 14% for December and 0.1% for the year. Fleet is doing all the heavy lifting now. However, the inevitable calls for incentives and/or subsidies for private buyers has started. Click this link to the SMMT article for more information. Last May, in recognition of Maternal Mental Health Awareness month, we shared several very personal stories of postpartum anxiety and depression across four episodes of How Long ‘Til Bedtime. As we discussed then, it is believed that 1 in 5 new moms experience some level of perinatal mood or anxiety disorder. And when a new mom experiences postpartum anxiety or depression, her partner is 50% more likely to also experience anxiety or depression. So this year, as a follow up, we wanted to share a slightly different perspective on this very important topic. We have three men chiming in for today's episode. Mike Vasquez and Todd Kennedy are married to women who shared their postpartum struggles with us in those episodes last May. And Alex Grant is the husband of a member of Allison's Sleep Tight community. Allison asked Mike, Todd and Alex some questions about their own personal adjustment to parenthood and their experience of having a partner struggle with postpartum anxiety or depression. The history of Bolshevism has many vital lessons for today's revolutionaries – particularly regarding the origins of the revolutionary party that led the masses to victory in Russia. At the second congress of the Russian Social Democratic Labour Party in 1903, the famous split between the majority (Bolsheviks) and minority (Mensheviks) took place. Many myths and distortion surround this split. It is often wrongly alleged the Mensheviks stood for a ‘democratic' and ‘decentralized' party, in opposition to Lenin's ‘ultra-centralist' and ‘authoritarian' tendencies. In reality, this split on organizational questions was an anticipation of future political differences, which will lead the Mensheviks to betray the revolution. This talk was given by Fightback editor Alex Grant at the 2023 Montreal Marxist Winter School.

This will be £20 in the first year, if brand new, then rising to £165 per year after that. The extra charge for cars over £40,000 will also come into force at the same time. Fleets will also be impacted, not just via the introduction of VED but at the Benefit in Kind rate is changing. They will rise 1% from 2025 to 2028. For the first time, Canadian workers have forced the repeal of back-to-work legislation. The inspiring struggle of the 55,000 Ontario education workers has achieved an important partial victory, and sets a precedent for workers across Canada. When workers unite and fight, they win! In this talk, Fightback editor Alex Grant discusses the historic outcome of this struggle and the way forward.
Across Canada there is a marked increase in strike votes and strike activity among unionized workers, from public service workers in British Columbia to education workers in Ontario. Unionization drives for unorganized workers is picking up in Starbucks, Amazon and other workplaces. All of this is a response to rising inflation and the higher cost of living. As big corporations and their friends in government put the cost of their own crisis on the backs of workers, workers are instinctively beginning to fight back. In this talk, Alex Grant speaks on the need to strike against inflation.

Elon Musk calls Lithium supply the “limiting factor” for electric vehicle adoption globally. Lithium is the key material for the Energy Transition and is currently enjoying a “white gold” rush. The supply has significantly gone up multiple fold in the past seven years, up to 500,000t/y in 2022; still, demand is expected – according to Benchmark Minerals Intelligence – to grow another four to five-fold this decade. The shortage of Lithium – whether real or perceived -, has triggered a spectacular rise in the price of materials over the past two years. Spot prices of Lithium have gone up six-fold since 2020. And Lithium is not alone: Nickel, Cobalt, Graphite, every battery material has gone up. Basically, in 2020 you had 2,000USD of material in a Tesla battery, now it is closer to 6,000USD. Are we going to run out of Lithium? Are they new places to mine, new players, new technologies which could come to the rescue? We have invited Alex Grant, Principal at Jade Cove Partners, to assess all those challenges. We call Alex the “Indiana Jones of Lithium and Battery materials”. Forbes 30 under 30, research affiliate at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Alex has an M.S. from Northwestern University in Chemical Engineering and tracks 70 different Lithium Extraction Technologies. Finally, he has a cool Twitter handle: @big_lithium. So, he is the man to interview! We also have inserted an excerpt from Elon Musk conversation in the FT “Future of cars” that was held in May 2022 where Tesla's CEO shares his views on the Lithium supply chain.A salute to our main sources of knowledge in Lithium: Simon Moores at Benchmark Minerals Intelligence, and of course Joe Lowry aka “Mr Lithium”. More and more workers are saying "the rent is too damn high!" Canada especially has some of the highest housing costs on the planet. Many are finding themselves spending over 30% or even 50% of their income in rent, and homelessness is increasing. Why is this so? In this episode Fightback editor Alex Grant will give an overview of the Marxist theory of rent to explain why landlords are parasites and how they extract an unproductive tribute from the surplus labour of the working class.

Marxist theory — in its ability to predict the general course of development within the economy and society — demonstrates the superiority of foresight over astonishment. In this talk Alex Grant, editor of Fightback (marxist.ca) explains the economic and political forces at work in Canada. A vacuum of left leadership has made it possible for the right-wing to fill the void. But this is no reason to be pessimistic. The tide of history is turning in favour of the Marxists — we just have to prepare for it!

Alex Grant...We are grateful to connect with Alex and learn from all his years of experience in the cycling world. He is super wise and also willing to risk it for the biscuit! He shares some awesome nuggets with us about success on and off the bike. Born in Richmond, VT in a small town about 20 miles from Burlington. Moved to Salt Lake City in 1998 for college and the snow. Used to play lots of pond hockey as a kid. Loved to ski, snowboard and play soccer - he focused mostly on snowboarding through his late teens and 20's. He started racing bikes in the late 1990s in New England. Raced until he was 18 and then took a 4-5 year break to snowboard and travel. In 2004 he picked it up again and got his pro license at the end of 2005. He spends his days also managing Gear Rush: A consignment shop that specializes in cycling and outdoor gear. They sell primarily on eBay and serve as an outlet for the local outdoor community to turn over their no longer needed gear to a new user. He has a beautiful family: two girls that are looking to be as adventurous has him! Connect with Alex: alexgrant411@gmail.com
