Big SUVs promise comfort and power, but where do they land on efficiency, tech, and day-to-day usability? We took the 2025 Ford Expedition Tremor and the 2026 Lincoln Aviator Black Label on extended drives to find out. From grille details and cabin storage to third-row realities and highway manners, we dig into what these family haulers do well and where they fall short. The Expedition Tremor leans into body-on-frame muscle with a 3.5L high-output EcoBoost that churns out 440 hp and 510 lb-ft. It tows, it cruises, and it rides like a stretched limo, yet parking-lot pivots and fuel economy remind you how large it is. We break down pricing against the Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon XL, and Toyota Sequoia, and talk honestly about the need for a hybrid solution that preserves torque without draining wallets. Then we switch lanes to the Aviator, a unibody luxury SUV with a clean, tuxedo look and a plush Black Label interior. The twin-turbo 3.0L V6 delivers V8-like thrust while adaptive suspension keeps the cabin calm. We cover real-world mpg, third-row practicality, and why some steering-wheel controls and driver-monitoring prompts still distract more than they should. Consider this a straight-shooting guide to what matters when you're choosing between truck-tough and luxury-smooth.We also step into life on 18 wheels, comparing sleeper cabs from Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, Volvo, and International—highlighting comfort, customization, and the fuel-sipping tech that keeps drivers happy and fleets profitable. To round it out, we map a few winter-ready Texas car museums that deliver serious automotive inspiration, from Chaparral race legends to Americana-filled collections.Enjoy the ride? We continue our 2025 End Of Year look...Looking for clarity on your next daily driver? We put two very different paths under the microscope: Volvo's 2025 EX40 Twin Motor Ultra with its tight, tech-forward approach to electrification, and Chevrolet's 2026 Tahoe Premier 4WD with big V8 torque, real towing, and road-trip comfort. The contrast reveals what you truly trade—time at chargers for quiet torque, touchscreen taps for minimal cabin clutter, and fuel costs for full-size capability. We start with the EX40's foundations in the XC40 platform and talk through what carries over and what improves. Pixel headlight tech, a 12.3-inch driver display, and a nine-inch center screen give the EV a modern face, but burying basic functions in software adds friction—like needing four taps to power down. We share cost-per-mile numbers from a 270-mile run, why a slightly faster charge still matters, and how the twin-motor setup's 402-hp equivalent translates to daily confidence. Safety pedigree remains a Volvo hallmark, but we ask the hard question: does the interface help or get in the way? Then we climb into the Tahoe Premier. A 6.2-liter V8 paired with a 10-speed transmission delivers 420 horsepower, 460 pound-feet, and up to about 8,200 pounds of towing, backed by Magnetic Ride Control and a surprisingly maneuverable feel for its size. Inside, the horizontal 17-inch infotainment display and 15-inch head-up display keep vital info easy to parse, while optional rear screens keep passengers entertained. We compare it directly with Ford Expedition, Toyota Sequoia hybrid, Nissan Armada, and GMC Yukon, and weigh where the Tahoe earns its price: space, visibility, and hardware that just works.Between test drives, we take a joyride through 1970s custom van culture—shag carpet, side pipes, and airbrushed fantasy—and swap stories on the “five worst cars,” from Pinto to Aztek, separating legend from reality. By the end, you'll know whether you're better off with an EV that prioritizes safety and sleek software or a full-size SUV that delivers straightforward strength and family-ready comfort. If you enjoyed this review mashup and the car-culture detour, follow, share with a friend, and leave a rating. Power meets perspective from the street to the driveway. We start behind the wheel of the 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe Premier 4WD, unpacking what a modern full-size SUV gets right: a serene cabin, a 17-inch horizontal infotainment screen, a crisp 15-inch head-up display, and magnetic ride control that smooths rough pavement. The 6.2L V8 and 10-speed automatic serve up 420 hp and 460 lb-ft, real-world confidence for towing up to 8,200 pounds and threading parking lots without drama. We talk price reality too, from base LS to a Premier build that climbs with paint, 22-inch wheels, and comfort options, and we stack it against the Ford Expedition, Nissan Armada, Toyota Sequoia hybrid, and GMC Yukon. Then we widen the lens to car culture and remember why we fell for this world. From the chopped and channeled customs of the 1950s and 1960s to rivalries that sometimes boiled over—like the 1959 Artesia Moose Lodge rumble—car clubs shaped style, speed, and community. That legacy lives on in quieter ways: charity cruises, skills shared over open hoods, and the unspoken code of friends rotating from one garage to the next. Personal stories bring it home, reminding us that culture isn't just events and logos; it's late-night fixes, bent pushrods, and the pride of making something run right. To round it out, we jump into the 2025 Subaru Ascent Onyx Touring. Built in Indiana with standard all-wheel drive, Subaru's three-row plays the long game with a conservative design, a stellar, easy-to-use infotainment interface, and thoughtful touches like retracting third-row headrests for a clear rear view. The 2.4L turbo flat-four and CVT deliver a smooth, efficient drive—around 23 mpg over a long stint—while keeping 5,000 pounds of towing in its back pocket. If the Tahoe is about power and presence, the Ascent is about calm and confidence: stable handling from a low center of gravity, high safety scores, and the kind of ride that makes family trips feel shorter. If you enjoyed the blend of real-world reviews and car club heritage, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review—what are you driving, and which garage story still makes you smile?Be sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. 2025 Toyota Sequoia TRD Off-Road 1794 Edition Takes On California Coast

On this week's episode of America on the Road, Jack Nerad and Chris Teague dive into two very different test vehicles, starting with the rugged yet refined 2025 Toyota Sequoia TRD Off-Road 1794 Edition. Jack used the full-size SUV as his vehicle of choice for a family road trip to California's central coast, for the college graduation of his youngest daughter. Powerful and luxurious, the Texas-built Sequoia pairs a 437-horsepower i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain with a 10-speed automatic transmission and part-time four-wheel drive. Off-road gear like Bilstein shocks, skid plates, and a locking rear differential came into play during the drive, while the massaging leather seats and walnut wood trim brought a layer of comfort that softened the SUV's muscular edge. It's not cheap. The model Jack tested came in at $85,700. But it delivers a capable mix of trail-readiness and upscale design. Jack will provide a full report. Chris takes a long look at the 2025 Chevrolet Trax, a subcompact SUV that trades brute force for practicality and affordability. Starting at just $21,895, the Trax is powered by a 137-horsepower, turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. It reaches 60 mph in 8.8 seconds and offers an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway. While it doesn't have an all-wheel drive variant, it's larger than its predecessor, with more rear legroom and cargo space, and its updated interior includes an 11-inch touchscreen on LT and higher trims, wireless smartphone integration, and intuitive climate controls. Though modest in power, the Trax is easy to drive and well-equipped for the price. Are its days numbered because of tariff issues? Chris and Jack will weigh in on that and the Trax's merits. In the news this week, Chevrolet stunned the industry by unveiling the 2026 Corvette ZR1X, a 1,250-horsepower hybrid supercar featuring a twin-turbo V-8 and front electric motor, capable of hitting 60 mph in under two seconds. The car's performance is supported by cutting-edge features like a 1.9 kWh electric assist system, 10-piston brakes, and active aerodynamics, positioning it squarely in hypercar territory. Nissan revealed a full redesign of its Leaf EV, with a new 75-kWh battery, SUV-like stance, and high-end tech, including dual 14.3-inch displays and Plug & Charge functionality. The interior gets a minimalist refresh aimed at maximizing space and comfort, while the platform's new 3-in-1 powertrain improves efficiency and range. But while Nissan is hoping to sell many Leaf EVs, EV registrations have begun to slip in the U.S., declining 4.4 percent year-over-year in April, the first drop in over a year. Market share fell to 6.6 percent as consumer demand softened and manufacturers reconsidered pricing, while upcoming federal legislation may soon phase out the current EV tax credit program, adding further instability. We'll have details on all the ramifications. The news might be better for hybrids, like the OG hybrid, the Toyota Prius. The automaker just announced details on the 2026 Prius. It will offer up to 196 horsepower, available all-wheel drive, and a host of new safety and infotainment features, all while delivering as much as 57 mpg combined. The Prius also refines its sleeker design, updated hybrid tech, and ride dynamics, aiming to appeal to a broader range of buyers. This week's special guest is Sean Nguyen, a lubricant expert from Pennzoil. He will share valuable advice on keeping your car running smoothly, including what to look for in modern motor oils and how often you really need to change them. He discusses the evolution of engine oil technology and how choosing the right oil can extend the life and efficiency of your vehicle, so stay with us for that. To wrap things up, a listener from Stockton, California, asked whether it's safe to rely on driver-assist features like lane-keeping and automatic stop during traffic.

The Lexus TX solves an important problem for Lexus – it gives the brand an upscale, large people mover. This three-row crossover joined the Lexus brand at the end of 2023 as a 2024 model-year vehicle and is the cousin of the Toyota Grand Highlander. The Lexus TX also packs a variety of powertrains, with a 2.4-liter turbocharged I4, a turbocharged 2.4-liter I4 that works with a hybrid system, and the top-flight 3.5-liter V6 that works with the plug-in hybrid system. This particular tester slots under the TX 500h+ trim which moves by way of the turbocharged 2.4-cylinder hybrid powertrain.  On the Toyota side of the dealership, your three-row options open up. Sure, you can snag a Grand Highlander or Sienna, or you can move to the body-on-frame Sequoia. Based on the latest TNGA-F architecture, the latest Sequoia follows the same pattern as the new Tundra. That means it packs a 3.4-liter turbocharged V6 under the hood that works with the i-Force Max hybrid system to throw 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission.   On this episode of Talking Cars with the Boss, host Wesley Wren chats with Natalie Neff about these two three-row people movers. The pair talk about their respective experiences with each of these distinctly different people movers, and discuss their merits. Closing the show, the pair decide which one of these two three-row machines they'd want to throw into their driveway.

For millions of people across the country, a week on a lake is a dream vacation. This year Host Jack Nerad and his family found that out firsthand as they drove a 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro to Cedar Creek Lake south of Dallas for some serious driving and welcome R and R. As the Nerads discovered, the Sequoia had the goods to offer dual duty as both a serious off-roader and a practical family hauler. The third-generation Sequoia three-row SUV delivered luxurious comfort, impressive technology and exceptional convenience features. The twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain offers plenty of acceleration with 437 horsepower and a whopping 583 pound-feet of torque. Towing a big boat is child's play with an impressive 9,520-pound maximum towing capacity. For the stock-up stop at the big box store, the Sequoia offers a cavernous cargo area and an innovative multi-level cargo system. When it comes to all-terrain capability, the TRD Pro's part-time four-wheel-drive system includes a transfer case, controlled via a button on the center console, to select between 2WD, 4WD high and 4WD low. The multi-link rear and available air suspensions keep the vehicle in firm control. Nerad will recount more of his family's adventures as the road tests unroll. In our second road test this week, Co-Host Chris Teague will discuss his family's recent purchase, the 2024 Honda Prologue. Making the big leap into the electric vehicle lifestyle, the Teague family has already experienced the joys and travails of battery power. Teague will share far more in this episode. Our special guest is George Baker, General Motors' Vehicle Security Lead. He will discuss ways to avoid becoming a car theft victim. Car theft is on the rise across the country, so you'll want to hear what he has to say. In the news, Tesla's Elon Musk has just hinted that the debut of the carmaker's robotaxi will be delayed. We'll tell you why and what all means coming up. General Motors CEO Mary Barra has just revealed that her company's goal of producing one million electric vehicles in North America is, in her words, “uncertain.” We'll have the details and our thoughts. Meanwhile, hundreds of MINIs are scurrying across the western United States this weekend, and we”ll tell you all about that. Also in the news, Consumer Reports has released its list of the Best Electric Vehicles, and we'll tell you about the surprising top-rated car and other surprises on the list with, of course, our comments. So we have a lot of show for you this week. McLaren has just introduced the McLaren GTS, a replacement for the GT, and we have the details. The grand tourer marries supercar performance with everyday practicality. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine boasts 626 horsepower, 14 more than its predecessor, and it's lighter at 3,351 pounds. The result is what McLaren claims is a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 412 horsepower per ton. Clocking 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds and 0-124 mph in 8.9 seconds, it outpaces the well-regarded GT. Its structure, rooted in McLaren's carbon fiber monocoque chassis, enhances agility and stability. Crafted with recycled carbon fiber components, the GTS boasts a lower center of gravity and intelligent adaptive suspension. The exterior flaunts a more aggressive design, enriched by gloss black finishes and personalization choices like 'Lava Grey' paint and 'Turbine' forged alloy wheels exclusive to the GTS. Inside, upgrades feature softgrain Aniline leather seats. The McLaren GTS is now open for orders, with McLaren promising deliveries in 2024. At the same time, Lexus has introduced a far more approachable car. The 2024 RZ lineup is now headlined by the newly announced RZ 300e, offering a 266-mile range and starting at $56,300. The front-wheel-drive model employs a 72.8kWh battery to feed a drivetrain that generates 201 horsepower. Lexus says it will deliver an EPA-estimated MPGe of 137/112/125 (city/highway/combined). The new RZ model features a rear subframe replacing the electric drive axle of the RZ 450e. The all-wheel-drive RZ 450e utilizes the Lexus DIRECT4 system, balancing torque between its 150-kW front and 80-kW rear eAxle motors. Total system horsepower is 308, and the trim offers a 220-mile range. Also in the news this week, a new study shows that Tesla drivers are the most accident-prone. And the drivers of other brands come in for some criticism as well. You'll be surprised to learn which brand's drivers get the most DUIs, for example. We'll have details. In the road tests this week, Host Jack Nerad and guest Co-Host Matt DeLorenzo will discuss the 2024 Honda Accord and the 2024 Toyota Sequoia full-size SUV. The Accord is a 2024 North American Car of the Year Finalists, and Nerad and DeLorenzo, two NACTOY jurors, discuss its merits in comparison to the other contenders — the Toyota Prius and the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Nerad and his family took a pre-holiday road trip in the Sequoia, which has been totally remade after the previous generation ran for more than a decade. How does it fare in comparison to the domestic stalwarts in the class, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition? We'll tell you in the road test segment. Also, in this episode, Nerad and DeLorenzo will discuss the most important news stories of 2023 and take a preview look at what might happen in the North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year awards, which will be presented in early January. All that and so much more are coming up in this episode of America on the Road. Sons of Speed Publisher Paul Herrold sits in for Jill this week. Paul and Tom opened the show talking about the discontinued Fiat 500X and related Jeep Renegade small crossovers. Tom asked Paul if he thought Jeep's recent sales decline came—at least in part—as a result of the brand's small, too-conventional crossovers, such as the Renegade, Compass, and Cherokee. Paul talked about four new Sons of Speed videos available for viewing at WeAreMotorDrive.com. The videos feature lap time at Road America race track, and include the Toyota GR Corolla, Volkswagen GTI, BMW M2, and Toyota Supra. Following up on Jill's EV charging issues from a week earlier, Tom shared a tale of similar frustration, including broken Evgo charging units—which were listed as operational on the provider's app—and Electrify America's over-hyped “Super Fast” charging. In the second segment Paul and Tom welcome Ram Communications Manager Trevor Dorchies to the show. Trevor updated the hosts on product in the Ram pipeline, including the redesigned 1500 pickup, the RAM REV electric pickup, and the extended-range plug-in-hybrid Ram Ramcharger. Also discussed is the new, ultra-luxury Ram 1500 Tungsten. In the last segment Paul is subjected to Tom's “Best Mileage” quiz, which includes a surprising Burger King bonus question. The hosts wrapped up the show by discussing why Tom's test vehicle, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro, makes Tom want to shoot a water buffalo.

What's good Unnamed Automotive Podcast listeners? We'll tell you what isn't: the two vehicles the guys are talking about this week. First up is the 2023 Toyota Sequoia, which Benjamin points out has some highs and lows, but mostly lows with a vehicle with a limited audience, even though it's been thoroughly redesigned. Packing three rows and a hybrid powertrain, the Sequoia has a small audience, and one that doesn't seem to be growing in any significant way, but wait till you hear Ben's description of the ride, cargo space and pricing which is the SUV's death toll. Then Sami brings up the 2023 Ford Escape PHEV, which was recently refreshed with a new look and cabin, but has been overshadowed by the Bronco Sport. Is Ford giving up on its hybrid crossover? Based on Sami's experience, there are a few fatal flaws to the new Escape, and ones that are making it a hard sell compared to its rivals. To put it bluntly, the 2022 Toyota Sequoia was old. The second-generation Sequoia was launched at the end of the Bush administration. After nearly two decades in production, Toyota introduced the third generation of its Sequoia. This Sequoia follows the same formula as the similarly updated Toyota Tundra, which means that the 5.7-liter V8 is gone and a turbocharged, V6 hybrid powertrain is in its place. While the Tundra also offers a non-hybrid powertrain, the '23 Sequoia will only be available with Toyota's I-Force Max 3.5-liter V6 hybrid powertrain. This hybrid powertrain feeds power through a ten-speed automatic transmission to either the rear wheels in two-wheel-drive trim or all four wheels when ordered as such. Of course, the new Sequoia sees more than just a powertrain and features an entirely new shell and interior. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren climbs behind the wheel of Toyota's three-row off-roader and takes you along for the ride. Wren guides you around the new Sequoia to show off its features and new hardware before taking you along on a live drive review. Adding to the show, Wren chats with Autoweek's Mark Vaughn about the Sequoia's slow sales this year, the competitive set and more. Closing the show, the two break down what makes the new Sequoia special.

Is the all-new 2023 Toyota Sequoia just a Tundra with a cap on the back? We share our first impressions of Toyota's largest SUV, how it compares to competitors like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Cadillac Escalade (or even the 4Runner!), and if it can carry the torch for the dearly departed Land Cruiser. We also discuss whether using a different octane gas, for example 87 vs. 88 octane, can harm your car's engine. SHOW NOTES: 0:00: 2023 Toyota Sequoia first impressions 15:59: Can using a higher octane gas than is recommended in your owner's manual harm your engine? 2023 Toyota Sequoia Is Reborn As A Hybrid SUV

Because there's a new Tundra pickup, it only makes sense that Toyota is rolling out an all-new Sequoia. The 2023 model replaces the second-generation that's as old as its namesake. And it's a hybrid now! The only powertrain is the i-Force Max twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor sandwiched in between it and the 10-speed transmission. With 3-rows it'll carry up to eight adults (though word is the 2nd row does not slide fore and after and headroom in the 3rd row is reduced). The back row of the new Sequoia features a sliding feature so there's a choice of more cargo room or maximum legroom. There are five trim levels including the new top-dog Capstone model plus an off-road oriented TRD Pro. Tom Voelk gives you a preview of the large roomy SUV that shares its architecture with Tundra, Land Cruiser and Lexus LX 600. No pricing or fuel economy ratings have been announced yet.
