The Lexus TX solves an important problem for Lexus – it gives the brand an upscale, large people mover. This three-row crossover joined the Lexus brand at the end of 2023 as a 2024 model-year vehicle and is the cousin of the Toyota Grand Highlander. The Lexus TX also packs a variety of powertrains, with a 2.4-liter turbocharged I4, a turbocharged 2.4-liter I4 that works with a hybrid system, and the top-flight 3.5-liter V6 that works with the plug-in hybrid system. This particular tester slots under the TX 500h+ trim which moves by way of the turbocharged 2.4-cylinder hybrid powertrain.  On the Toyota side of the dealership, your three-row options open up. Sure, you can snag a Grand Highlander or Sienna, or you can move to the body-on-frame Sequoia. Based on the latest TNGA-F architecture, the latest Sequoia follows the same pattern as the new Tundra. That means it packs a 3.4-liter turbocharged V6 under the hood that works with the i-Force Max hybrid system to throw 437 hp and 583 lb-ft of torque through a 10-speed automatic transmission.   On this episode of Talking Cars with the Boss, host Wesley Wren chats with Natalie Neff about these two three-row people movers. The pair talk about their respective experiences with each of these distinctly different people movers, and discuss their merits. Closing the show, the pair decide which one of these two three-row machines they'd want to throw into their driveway.

For millions of people across the country, a week on a lake is a dream vacation. This year Host Jack Nerad and his family found that out firsthand as they drove a 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro to Cedar Creek Lake south of Dallas for some serious driving and welcome R and R. As the Nerads discovered, the Sequoia had the goods to offer dual duty as both a serious off-roader and a practical family hauler. The third-generation Sequoia three-row SUV delivered luxurious comfort, impressive technology and exceptional convenience features. The twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain offers plenty of acceleration with 437 horsepower and a whopping 583 pound-feet of torque. Towing a big boat is child's play with an impressive 9,520-pound maximum towing capacity. For the stock-up stop at the big box store, the Sequoia offers a cavernous cargo area and an innovative multi-level cargo system. When it comes to all-terrain capability, the TRD Pro's part-time four-wheel-drive system includes a transfer case, controlled via a button on the center console, to select between 2WD, 4WD high and 4WD low. The multi-link rear and available air suspensions keep the vehicle in firm control. Nerad will recount more of his family's adventures as the road tests unroll. In our second road test this week, Co-Host Chris Teague will discuss his family's recent purchase, the 2024 Honda Prologue. Making the big leap into the electric vehicle lifestyle, the Teague family has already experienced the joys and travails of battery power. Teague will share far more in this episode. Our special guest is George Baker, General Motors' Vehicle Security Lead. He will discuss ways to avoid becoming a car theft victim. Car theft is on the rise across the country, so you'll want to hear what he has to say. In the news, Tesla's Elon Musk has just hinted that the debut of the carmaker's robotaxi will be delayed. We'll tell you why and what all means coming up. General Motors CEO Mary Barra has just revealed that her company's goal of producing one million electric vehicles in North America is, in her words, “uncertain.” We'll have the details and our thoughts. Meanwhile, hundreds of MINIs are scurrying across the western United States this weekend, and we”ll tell you all about that. Also in the news, Consumer Reports has released its list of the Best Electric Vehicles, and we'll tell you about the surprising top-rated car and other surprises on the list with, of course, our comments. So we have a lot of show for you this week. McLaren has just introduced the McLaren GTS, a replacement for the GT, and we have the details. The grand tourer marries supercar performance with everyday practicality. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine boasts 626 horsepower, 14 more than its predecessor, and it's lighter at 3,351 pounds. The result is what McLaren claims is a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 412 horsepower per ton. Clocking 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds and 0-124 mph in 8.9 seconds, it outpaces the well-regarded GT. Its structure, rooted in McLaren's carbon fiber monocoque chassis, enhances agility and stability. Crafted with recycled carbon fiber components, the GTS boasts a lower center of gravity and intelligent adaptive suspension. The exterior flaunts a more aggressive design, enriched by gloss black finishes and personalization choices like 'Lava Grey' paint and 'Turbine' forged alloy wheels exclusive to the GTS. Inside, upgrades feature softgrain Aniline leather seats. The McLaren GTS is now open for orders, with McLaren promising deliveries in 2024. At the same time, Lexus has introduced a far more approachable car. The 2024 RZ lineup is now headlined by the newly announced RZ 300e, offering a 266-mile range and starting at $56,300. The front-wheel-drive model employs a 72.8kWh battery to feed a drivetrain that generates 201 horsepower. Lexus says it will deliver an EPA-estimated MPGe of 137/112/125 (city/highway/combined). The new RZ model features a rear subframe replacing the electric drive axle of the RZ 450e. The all-wheel-drive RZ 450e utilizes the Lexus DIRECT4 system, balancing torque between its 150-kW front and 80-kW rear eAxle motors. Total system horsepower is 308, and the trim offers a 220-mile range. Also in the news this week, a new study shows that Tesla drivers are the most accident-prone. And the drivers of other brands come in for some criticism as well. You'll be surprised to learn which brand's drivers get the most DUIs, for example. We'll have details. In the road tests this week, Host Jack Nerad and guest Co-Host Matt DeLorenzo will discuss the 2024 Honda Accord and the 2024 Toyota Sequoia full-size SUV. The Accord is a 2024 North American Car of the Year Finalists, and Nerad and DeLorenzo, two NACTOY jurors, discuss its merits in comparison to the other contenders — the Toyota Prius and the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Nerad and his family took a pre-holiday road trip in the Sequoia, which has been totally remade after the previous generation ran for more than a decade. How does it fare in comparison to the domestic stalwarts in the class, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition? We'll tell you in the road test segment. Also, in this episode, Nerad and DeLorenzo will discuss the most important news stories of 2023 and take a preview look at what might happen in the North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year awards, which will be presented in early January. All that and so much more are coming up in this episode of America on the Road. Sons of Speed Publisher Paul Herrold sits in for Jill this week. Paul and Tom opened the show talking about the discontinued Fiat 500X and related Jeep Renegade small crossovers. Tom asked Paul if he thought Jeep's recent sales decline came—at least in part—as a result of the brand's small, too-conventional crossovers, such as the Renegade, Compass, and Cherokee. Paul talked about four new Sons of Speed videos available for viewing at WeAreMotorDrive.com. The videos feature lap time at Road America race track, and include the Toyota GR Corolla, Volkswagen GTI, BMW M2, and Toyota Supra. Following up on Jill's EV charging issues from a week earlier, Tom shared a tale of similar frustration, including broken Evgo charging units—which were listed as operational on the provider's app—and Electrify America's over-hyped “Super Fast” charging. In the second segment Paul and Tom welcome Ram Communications Manager Trevor Dorchies to the show. Trevor updated the hosts on product in the Ram pipeline, including the redesigned 1500 pickup, the RAM REV electric pickup, and the extended-range plug-in-hybrid Ram Ramcharger. Also discussed is the new, ultra-luxury Ram 1500 Tungsten. In the last segment Paul is subjected to Tom's “Best Mileage” quiz, which includes a surprising Burger King bonus question. The hosts wrapped up the show by discussing why Tom's test vehicle, the 2024 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro, makes Tom want to shoot a water buffalo.

Kraft debuts dairy-free mac and cheese; electric vehicle sales to hit record this year; massive iceberg drifting beyond Antarctic waters

On the version of Hot off the Wire posted Dec. 2 at 6 a.m. CT: Kraft Heinz says it's bringing dairy-free macaroni and cheese to the U.S. for the first time. The company says the new recipe has the same creamy texture and flavor of the beloved 85-year-old original but replaces dairy with ingredients like fava bean protein and coconut oil powder. Kraft NotMac&Cheese will be rolled out to U.S. stores over the next few months. It was developed in collaboration with Not Co., a Chicago startup that makes plant-based milk, burgers and other products. Kraft and Not Co. formed a joint venture last year and have also developed plant-based cheese slices and mayonnaise. Electric vehicle sales are expected to hit a record 9% of all passenger vehicles in the U.S. this year, according to Atlas Public Policy. That will be up from 7.3% of new car sales in 2022. This will be the first year U.S. EV sales surpass 1 million, and they will probably reach between 1.3 million and 1.4 million cars. Electric vehicle prices in the U.S. have been falling. Although the numbers show significant progress for electrification in the US, the nation is lagging behind countries like China, Germany, and Norway. The energy used by cars and their CO2 emissions could have dropped by over 30% in the past decade if not for the world's growing taste for SUVs, a new report from the Global Fuel Economy Initiative suggests. Electric vehicles are a solution, but large gas-powered cars are incredibly popular, especially in the U.S., and their overall market share keeps growing. Large SUVs like the Chevrolet Tahoe, Toyota Sequoia, or Nissan Armada have highway fuel efficiency of just 28, 24, and 19 miles per gallon, respectively. NEW YORK (AP) — U.S. life expectancy rose last year, but it still isn't close to what it was before the COVID-19 pandemic. It was up by more than a year in 2022, after plunging two straight years at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It's now 77 years, 6 months — about what it was two decades ago. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released the numbers on Wednesday. Researchers say the rise was mainly due the waning pandemic. The snapshot statistic is considered one of the most important measures of the health of the U.S. population. PHOENIX (AP) — The United States is ill-prepared to ensure housing and care for the growing ranks of America's older people. That's the conclusion of a new report being released Thursday by Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies. Without enough government assistance many older adults will have to forgo needed care or rely on family and friends for assistance. Many will become homeless. Officials at the center say more governmental assistance could better help the upsurge of older Americans who are baby boomers born after World War II. Creative ideas are needed to help house people with fixed or dwindling incomes. NEW YORK (AP) — The COVID-19 pandemic upended the work habits of people around the world, with millions working from home, at least for part of their week. Workers have returned in waves back to the office on some days, but navigating that transition is a significant hurdle for employers and workers alike. And many simply don't want to restore the pre-COVID status quo. Top factors behind this resistance include a sense of losing flexibility or throwing off a better work-life balance, as well as often lengthy and costly commutes. Two surveys conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago give a glimpse into the challenges and tensions that arrive with return to office plans. INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, Fla. (AP) — It's been a record-breaking year for sea turtles in Florida. Just as they have for millions of years, the turtles have crawled onto beaches, digging pits in the sand to lay their eggs. Florida's preliminary count shows more than 133,840 loggerhead turtle nests and 76,500 green turtle nests, breaking records set years ago. Other southeastern U.S. states also report high numbers. But only one in 1,000 hatchlings lives to adulthood and climate change is threatening their species as beaches disappear under rising seas. Hotter sand makes more females, and the hatchlings are smaller and slower. Experts say their future remains ominous. LONDON (AP) — The British Antarctic Survey says that one of the world's largest icebergs is drifting beyond Antarctic waters after being grounded for more than three decades. The iceberg known as A23a split from the Antarctic's Filchner Ice Shelf in 1986. But it became stuck to the ocean floor and had remained for many years in the Weddell Sea. The iceberg is about three times the size of New York City and more than twice the size of Greater London. Andrew Fleming from the British Antarctic Survey told the BBC on Friday that the iceberg has been drifting for the past year and now appears to be picking up speed and moving past the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula helped by wind and ocean currents. ELMSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — A growing number of states are working to keep food out of landfills over concerns the waste is taking up too much space and posing environmental problems. Globally, about a third of food is wasted. In the United States, it's even higher, at 40%. California and some others have passed laws requiring food waste to be composted while others including New York require supermarkets and other businesses to redirect food to food pantries. They argue it saves landfill space, cuts methane emissions and also gives poor families more choices. New York says it already has recycled or donated 5 million pounds of leftover food. The oil and gas sector, one of the major emitters of planet-warming gases, will need a rapid and substantial overhaul for the world to avoid even worse extremes fueled by human-caused climate change. That's according to a report released Thursday. The International Energy Agency says the current investment of $800 billion a year for the oil and gas sector will need to be slashed in half and emissions need to fall by 60% to give the world a fighting chance to meet its climate goals. It also found that the sector's investment into clean technologies like solar and wind only account for 1% of the global total. WENDEN, Ariz. (AP) — Worries about future water supplies from ancient aquifers are bubbling up in western rural Arizona. Some neighbors complain that their backyard wells have dried up since an Emirati agribusiness began farming alfalfa nearby. One farmer worries that state officials someday may try to divert the area's groundwater for Phoenix's future needs. Experts say tensions are inevitable as companies in climate-challenged countries such as the United Arab Emirates look to faraway places like rural Arizona for water and land they need to cultivate forage material and commodities. —The Associated Press About this program Host Terry Lipshetz is a senior producer for Lee Enterprises. And the TRD Pro model gets forged-aluminum wheels wearing 33-inch all- terrain tires, extra underbody protection and an off-road tuned suspension with Fox internal bypass coil-overs. And in Solar Octane paint, it will show up all traffic cones everywhere. Tom Voelk takes the TRD Pro on pavement and off-road to see if it can live in both worlds.

To put it bluntly, the 2022 Toyota Sequoia was old. The second-generation Sequoia was launched at the end of the Bush administration. After nearly two decades in production, Toyota introduced the third generation of its Sequoia. This Sequoia follows the same formula as the similarly updated Toyota Tundra, which means that the 5.7-liter V8 is gone and a turbocharged, V6 hybrid powertrain is in its place. While the Tundra also offers a non-hybrid powertrain, the '23 Sequoia will only be available with Toyota's I-Force Max 3.5-liter V6 hybrid powertrain. This hybrid powertrain feeds power through a ten-speed automatic transmission to either the rear wheels in two-wheel-drive trim or all four wheels when ordered as such. Of course, the new Sequoia sees more than just a powertrain and features an entirely new shell and interior. On this episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren climbs behind the wheel of Toyota's three-row off-roader and takes you along for the ride. Wren guides you around the new Sequoia to show off its features and new hardware before taking you along on a live drive review. Adding to the show, Wren chats with Autoweek's Mark Vaughn about the Sequoia's slow sales this year, the competitive set and more. Closing the show, the two break down what makes the new Sequoia special.

00:00 - Intro - Used 2002 Toyota SequoiaMy nephew, Nic Bodiford, returns to talk about the 2002 Toyota Sequoia he bought a year ago. He fills us in on the adventures he's been on, the DIY projects and maintenance he's done and he explains what's great and what isn't quite perfect about this full-size, family hauling 4x4 SUV after a year of ownership. 00:52 - I believe everyone should have something fun to drive! After introducing Nic, I talk about how it's my goal with this podcast to provide listeners with the information necessary to discover and locate great used vehicles that provide a combination of Joy/Fun and Value. Joy/Fun + Value = A Better Than New Used Car, Truck or SUV01:52 - What Nic Originally Wanted Before Finding the SequoiaA 100-series Toyota Land Cruiser or a third generation Toyota 4Runner were originally on Nic's list of target vehicles, but after going through the steps to figure out what was truly important in an SUV, he focused his attention on the first generation Toyota Sequoia, which turned out to be the best option for him. 03:18 - The Family-Friendly Sequoia Has Serious Off-Road Capabilities In spite of being targeted towards kid-hauling parents in the suburbs, the first-generation Toyota Sequoia is still a rugged 4X4 SUV with a 2-speed transfer case (2-hi, 4-hi and 4-low), a locking center differential and sturdy body-on-frame construction, which is a superior platform for off-road adventures. 04:07 - Why This Particular Sequoia? The used Sequoia that Nic bought was an original owner vehicle that had been in the same family since new, it was in great condition and it had thorough maintenance records. 06:30 - What Does Nic Like About His Sequoia? With a large dog, a large dog crate, a need to carry water and food for said dog, along with an array of tools and gear for his adventures, this large SUV provides plenty of interior space to haul everything Nic needs to carry. It also has plenty of room to comfortably carry four full-size adults + dog and crate. And the bonus? Its rugged four wheel drive capabilities make it an ideal platform for Nic's new-found love of 4-wheeling and overland camping. 09:30 - Is There Anything Nic Didn't Like?Because of the size, parallel parking on city streets is tough (he might install a rear-view camera). Fuel economy is not great either at 14.3 miles per gallon, but that's to be expected with a V8 and 4WD in a full-size SUV. On the plus side it does have a 26-gallon fuel tank, so range anxiety isn't an issue on or off road. 13:00 - Any Surprises? No major surprises. Only a few minor things, including a slow, minor leak in the power steering system (Nic is keeping this under surveillance, but hasn't had to fix it), a noisy front brake pad (easily remedied) and lower ball joints that will need to be replaced at some point, but this is a common issue on these large, heavy SUVs. 17:00 - What Adventures Have You Been On? The longest trip was from Seattle to Bozeman, MT, then south to Denver through Wyoming and then back home. While driving through Wyoming Nic hit windy conditions (30-mph sustained winds with gusts to 60-mph) that nearly blew the Thule rocket box off the Sequoia. Other trips include multiple off-road trail drives around Washington State exploring various back country destinations. Nic mentioned that he has learned that airing down his tires 10-12 psi from the factory recommended road inflation setting really helps with traction in off-road driving situations. He has also enjoyed learning the technical skills necessary to drive more confidently off road when 4-wheeling in his Sequoia. 21:10 - What Modifications Have You Done? Nic...

Quick Spin

The Toyota Prius is arguably the most well-known hybrid vehicle in the world, and its Prime-badged plug-in hybrid is right there with it. Launched at the start of the new millennium, the Toyota Prius has helped push hybrid powertrains to the forefront of American consumers. The plug-in Prius Prime joined the Prius nameplate in 2012 and entered its current generation in 2016. Powering the current Prius Prime is a 1.8-liter inline-four-cylinder engine that feeds Toyota's Electronically controlled continuously variable transmission. Combining the engine with the electric motor, the Prius Prime throws 121 hp and 105 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels. Just down from the Prius Prime at your local Toyota dealer is the Toyota Sequoia: a V8-powered, body-on-frame SUV. The Sequoia launched its second-generation effort all the way back in 2007 and hasn't changed significantly in the last 15 years. While Toyota has announced and shown the next-generation Sequoia, it's still waiting to head into production. That next-generation Sequoia will ditch the 381 hp and 401 hp 5.7-liter V8 and replace it with a turbocharged V6. Still, the second-generation Sequoia offers off-road capability and bold styling, if you can't wait for its replacement. On this bonus episode of Quick Spin, host Wesley Wren sits down with Autoweek's Editor in Chief Natalie Neff to talk about her time with this unlikely pair of Toyotas. They talk about the driving dynamics and experiences with both of these Toyotas and show where both shine and both falter. The pair also break down the constantly changing SUV and small car landscape and the growing new car crisis.

Because there's a new Tundra pickup, it only makes sense that Toyota is rolling out an all-new Sequoia. The 2023 model replaces the second-generation that's as old as its namesake. And it's a hybrid now! The only powertrain is the i-Force Max twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor sandwiched in between it and the 10-speed transmission. With 3-rows it'll carry up to eight adults (though word is the 2nd row does not slide fore and after and headroom in the 3rd row is reduced). The back row of the new Sequoia features a sliding feature so there's a choice of more cargo room or maximum legroom. There are five trim levels including the new top-dog Capstone model plus an off-road oriented TRD Pro. Tom Voelk gives you a preview of the large roomy SUV that shares its architecture with Tundra, Land Cruiser and Lexus LX 600. No pricing or fuel economy ratings have been announced yet.

If electric vehicles are going become mainstream in the United States, home-charging must also move into the mainstream. Without being able to recharge their vehicles at home, consumers will find that EVs might simply offer a day-to-day experience that is too complicated and too time-consuming. In this episode of America on the Road host Jack Nerad has the chance to discuss this issue with a man who knows all about it. Brent Gruber is Senior Director of Global Automotive for J.D. Power. We talk with him about a just-released J.D. Power study on electric vehicle infrastructure and home-charging. Are carmakers and dealers doing enough to educate consumers on the ins-and-outs of owning an electric car? We'll give you the answer. How did the Toyota Sequoia Nightshade fare in the forests of Maine? Co-host Chris Teague tells all. In the road test segment of America on the Road co-host Chris Teague takes a long, hard look at the 2021 Toyota Sequoia full-size SUV. Based in Maine, Teague put the big sport-ute through a series of family-oriented tasks, and he shares how it did. Is the 2021 GMC Acadia too big, too small, or just right? Also in the road test segment, host Jack Nerad reviews the 2021 GMC Acadia. The Acadia isn't the best-known SUV on the market and it is certainly not the biggest, but it might be one of the best-looking. Does it act as good as it look? And what families will find the Acadia most appealing? Nerad lets us know. What do you do if you buy a car that turns out to be a lemon? Teague and Nerad discuss your options in the listener question portion of the program. The all-new 2022 Infiniti QX60 has just been revealed and we have details. First, I wouldn’t be surprised if we both listen to the Beastie Boys’ “Sure Shot” while prepping to write some brand content. Second, we have a very aligned view on how you have to break the norms to build a brand that truly connects. In this episode, we talk about; shooting the video for the national launch of the Toyota Sequoia, filming the latest Jason Mraz video solely on an iPhone Pro and telling him that he needed to be on TikTok ASAP, and how brand-marketing content creators are like the grunge movement of the 1990s. Ok, guys! I’m gonna get a little woo woo in this episode but I want you to stick with me because I know how powerful this is. I’ve been studying and practicing the law of attraction and manifesting for quite some time now and just recently was reminded exactly how much power I have through it. So before I go into the whole story,  I want to give you a quick crash course in the law of attraction. Law of Attraction 101 Basically, it’s the ability to attract into our lives whatever we are focusing on. Meaning that all thoughts turn into things eventually. So if you focus on negative doom and gloom you will remain under that cloud. If you focus on positive thoughts and have goals that you aim to achieve you will find a way to achieve them with massive and inspired action. This is something I wholeheartedly believe in. You are where your attention is! If you are in a negative mindset then negative things tend to happen to you. We all know that one person that is always focusing on the negative stuff that happens either to them or in the world in general.  It’s easy to get wrapped up in those thoughts. They say misery enjoys company and it’s true.  The more you surround yourself with the negative the more negative will come to you. The same is true for thinking positive and practicing gratitude. If we can stay in a mindset that is full of gratitude and hopeful positive thoughts then we get more of those good positive vibes and feelings. The universe/god/the creator whatever you want to call it wants to give us what we want.  So if we are in place that is focusing only on the negative then it will help us get more of that and vise versa. We need to be intentional and clear about what we want and what we focus on.  This way the universe knows exactly what we want and will do everything to help us get it. Do you believe that you can manifest whatever you want? Let me tell you what just happened to me and why I am recording this episode now. My hubby and I went up to Durango a couple of weeks ago.  If you listen regularly you probably knew that but what you didn’t know was why we went.   We actually went up there to look at a couple of properties that we were interested in.  We wanted a vacation home that we could set up as a VRBO. Well, I love love love Colorado and was pretty sure that I wanted a house there.  Until I was there. While we were seeing the houses, I kept getting this heavy feeling. And thinking about all of the work that goes along with owning a house in a state that is a 12-hour drive or 2-hour plane ride and that deals with lots of weather-related issues. I decided that I didn’t really want to own a home there.  I love to visit but don’t want all of the added work and liability that goes along with owning a home. So when I got home, I decided to dig a little deeper into my feelings and I realized that it wasn’t about owning a home in Colorado at all.  It was about missing and wanting to out in nature more. You see, I live in Dallas.  Well, Plano to be exact and it’s basically a concrete-laden big city with not a lot of the beautiful nature that I grew up with in New Braunfels and Austin.   We don’t have a lot of hiking trails, hills, mountains or rivers here and I really miss that outdoor lifestyle that I loved so much. I used to go camping a bunch as a kid and young adult. I have some really awesome memories of being off the grid and want my kids to have those too.   My husband never went camping and grew up in the city with immigrant parents who worked all of the time and never did anything outdoorsy. They were just trying to make it in the US and give their kids a better shot at life.  We can’t fault them for that at all. They were in survival mode for most of my husband's youth. I introduced my outdoor lifestyle to my husband and he fell in love too.  Well, mostly anyway. Let’s just say he’s more of a cabin or lodge guy and not a tent camper.  LOL So, in digging deeper into my why, I realized that it was all about missing my connection with nature and not owning and maintaining a vacation home in Colorado. I did some research decided that I wanted to get a vintage camper and remodel it to fit our family and go on more camping trips.   I’m a pretty handy girl and while this might be a little bit of a stretch for me, I feel totally confident that I can do it. I basically went on a Pinterest binge of everything vintage camper.   Then, I went onto Craigslist and every other site I could think of and started looking at vintage campers. I decided on a budget of $4000 for something that I was pretty sure I would need to gut. Next, I put a couple of pictures together of what I was looking for and sent a text to my friends and family.  I asked them if they knew anyone that had one to sell or to be on the lookout for one that they might run across.  You never know right? Within 2 hours of me sending that text and reaching out to a couple of people from their online ads, I had a camper. Turned out that my neighbor’s stepdad had a vintage 1977 Shasta Starflyte that was just sitting on his property as a storage room.   It was in decent shape and had the super rare extra bunk.   Best of all, he was willing to sell it to me for $800.  That’s waaaaay less than some of the other disaster trailers that I was actually considering. I was sooooo excited. I jumped on it.   There were a couple of issues that came up that could have killed it but possibilities opened up to me when I needed them. First, we are starting a backyard renovation and I couldn’t actually get the camper until March of next year. Second, I realized that I wouldn’t be able to get it into my driveway.  We have an alley driveway and a sliding gate. There is no way that I could be able to get it back there. Third, my Honda Odyssey isn’t able to haul anything. So I asked if I could wait and get the camper in the spring and he said of course.  I could store it there as long as I needed. Woohoo! Then I started looking for a place to store and renovate my camper when I did get it.  Well, I found a small self-storage site like a mile from my house that has spaces for campers and RV for less than $75 a month.  Woohoo again! Now for the hauling.  I’ve been looking for my next car for while and was so torn on what I wanted to get.  Nothing that could fit all 5 of us comfortably really did it for me. Since I now needed to haul up to 4000 lbs, I was able to quickly decide that I wanted a Toyota Sequoia. Now that I clearly know what and why I want it, I’m sure the right one will pop up soon. All of those issues could have been a no go on the trailer but I was able to keep the positivity up and was presented with solutions to each of them. Within 24 hours of me deciding that I wanted a vintage camper so that I could be out in nature more with my family, I had a camper. And not just any camper. A vintage camper with the rare extra bunk and a bathroom plus it was in decent shape so that I don’t need to completely gut it and it was $3200 under my budget! If I can manifest this rare vintage camper for that price, I can manifest anything! So let me recap the steps real quick. Get clear on what you want and why you want it. Do some research to understand all that it entails. Spread the news!  Let everyone know what you want. Stay in tune with what and why you want it. Wait for it to present itself.  It might not always be in the way that you thought. This week we have a pair of SUVs that can go off-road almost anywhere with the Ford Bronco Wildtrack Sasquatch and the Land Rover Defender 110 SE. We also have a pair of decidedly on-road machines in the Hyundai Tucson and Nissan Sentra.Nicole and Sam went to the Chicago Auto Show this week and didn't see any new completely new models, just some stuff that's already been shown like the Bronco Raptor, Chevrolet Silverado EV and Toyota Sequoia along with new trim variants like the Ram 1500 Firefighter edition. Before the show, Alfa Romeo revealed the new Tonale and its accompanying NFT but didn't bring it to Chicago. Sam did speak with Alfa North America boss Larry Dominique. The biggest but least surprising news was the new Camp Jeep climbing hill and Nissan brought a trio of Frontier concepts including two decided retro variants.LinksNissan Frontier ConceptsAutomated Driving Must Be Fail OperationalTesla removes redundant steering control in China, doesn't tell customersThe Biggest MountainAlfa Romeo TonaleOur Sponsors:* Check out Express VPN: https://expressvpn.com/WHEELBEARINGSAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
