Have you ever wondered how the discipline of military service can shape a fearless entrepreneur? Haley Marie McClain Hill, an Air Force veteran and Shark Tank champion, joins us to share her extraordinary transformation from serving the country to leading the business world. Her insights are not just a tale of personal triumph but a guiding light for anyone navigating the shift from uniform to the uncertainty of startups. We talk about the adrenaline rush of national TV success and the critical role of female leadership, offering a new definition of success that goes beyond the bottom line to include authenticity and positive impact.Approaching life's hurdles with the right frame of mind can be the difference between faltering and flourishing. This episode peels back the layers on how to turn challenges into stepping stones, using the power of positive affirmations and a love for the grind to propel us forward. I share bits of my life outside the microphone, like my hidden musical flair and current reads, connecting with you on a level that's more than just business. We also unpack strategies to stay composed under pressure, using breathwork and a fearless belief in our own preparedness. Finally, we tackle the nuanced dance of entrepreneurship, balancing the wisdom of mentors with the trust in our gut instincts. Haley and I examine how to embrace constructive feedback, set up collaborative trial runs, and brush aside the negativity that doesn't serve our growth. We even indulge in a whimsical scenario of a cheerleading movie to remind us all that a dash of humor is vital on this rollercoaster ride of building a business. As we close the chapter on another enlightening discussion, I encourage our listeners to share the episode, engage with our community, and support the visionaries like Haley who are lighting the way for future trailblazers.Connect with Passing The Torch: Facebook and IG: @torchmartin More Amazing Stories: Episode 28: Purple Heart Recipient CMSgt Ben Seekell – Your Capacity is Limitless Episode 31: Todd Henry – Choose To Be Brave Episode 35: Brook Cupps – Shaping Leaders On and Off The Court Episode 41: Lee Ellis – Freeing You From Bond That Make You Insecure
From a very young age, Colorado native Ben Garland knew he wanted to attend the Air Force Academy. He researched what the Academy wanted in a cadet and joined countless clubs to show his dedication to service and community. He also played some impressive football at Central High School in Grand Junction. Ben lettered all four years and was first team All-State his senior season. He had full ride offers to several schools, including the Academy, but stayed with his goal and went for the grind in Colorado Springs. The days were tough between practice, marching, drills and an intense curriculum, but Ben loved it. He started 34 of 39 games as a Falcon and got noticed by NFL Scouts. Ben was hoping to get drafted and applied for a deferment for his required active duty. He was denied and his draft stock fell. The Broncos still brought him in as an undrafted free agent and placed him on military reserve. After Ben served his 2-year commitment, he returned to the NFL and played for 11 seasons with the Broncos, Falcons and 49'ers. These days, philanthropy is at the core of Ben's world with his latest venture being The Hero App, which helps non-profits fulfill their needs.
This interview is from Father's Day Weekend 2022. We never intended for this episode to be released on our audio network as it was a live interview on YouTube but with our guest having such a great football season, we thought we'd release it today. Jason Candle is the coach of the University of Toledo football team and this year they won the Mid-American Conference Championship and defeated Liberty in the Boca Raton Bowl. We ran into Coach Candle back in June at the Fatherhood Festival at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He had brought his leadership council to help out with the event. The interview took place outside with a lot of other things going on around us but the insights are still good and I think you'll get a sense as to one of the reasons Toledo football had the season that they did. We hope you enjoy this brief interview with Coach Jason Candle from the University of Toledo. - - - - - Watch the full interview at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YwKJjxT4Do - - - - - University of Toledo football coach Jason Candle sat down with the "Success is a Choice" podcast host Jamy Bechler at the Fatherhood Festival. This event took place at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio on Father's Day weekend 2022. Get more information about the event at FatherhoodFestival.com Coach Candle has won more than 60% of his game since taking over the reins of the Rocket program in 2015. He brought his player leadership council to the event as volunteers. This was a homecoming of sorts for Candle as he played on two NCAA Division III National Championship teams as a Wide Receiver at nearby Mount Union College. Some of the athletes in attendance at this event included Anthony Munoz, Mike Singletary, Ben Garland, Ed McCaffrey, Christian McCaffrey, David Tyree, and Shaun Alexander. Some of the event's organizers included Justin Blatt, Michael Munoz, Darrin Gray, and Rachel Joy Baribeau. The "Success is a Choice" podcast is made possible by TheLeadershipPlaybook.com. Divisional Round Takeaways Me: Bill O’Brien is squandering the Texans championship potential with Deshaun Watson and he must be fired NOW Matt: MVP’s don’t win Super Bowls 2. Truth/Exaggeration -The Ravens blew their best chance to win a Super Bowl with Lamar Jackson -If Antonio Brown doesn’t seek the right help fast, he will never play another down in the NFL -The Giants will stunt Daniel Jones’ development if they hire Jason Garrett as OC instead of retaining Mike Shula -Joe Burrow just authored the greatest single season performance in college football history and will be the next superstar NFL QB -With a looming “cap crunch”, the Minnesota Vikings Super Bowl window might have already closed with Saturday’s loss to the Niners -Regardless of what he thinks of the new coaching staff, the Browns must do all they can to trade Odell Beckham 3. Coaching Carousel -Browns: Thoughts on Kevin Stefanski hire? -Broncos: Was it the right move to part ways with Rich Scangarello and bring in Pat Shurmur? 4. AFC Championship Preview: Titans at Chiefs -If Chris Jones doesn’t play, how much does that increase the likelihood of a Titans upset? -Do you see the Mike Vrabel having a Belichick-esque game plan on defense to slow the Chiefs down like dropping eight or nine guys in coverage and conceding the run? -Key matchups: Jurrell Casey, Jeffery Simmons, DaQuan Jones versus Chiefs iOL, Derrick Henry vs. Chiefs DL -Game picks 5. NFC Championship Preview: Packers at 49ers -Matt LaFleur is consulting Sean McVay on how to attack the Niners D. The Rams had some success doing so in Week 16 with a lot of boots and rollouts. How are the Niners better equipped to handle such concepts this time around? -Will Aaron Rodgers have to be Superman for the Packers to win…or do you see them doing all they can to get Aaron Jones and the ground game going early and often? -The Niners OL did a FANTASTIC job handling the Vikings front, especially in the run game. How much more difficult of a challenge will the Packers front be for them? -Key matchups: Kenny Clark vs. Ben Garland, 49ers DL vs. Aaron Jones -Game picks: 6. BOLD PREDICTIONS ME: AFC Championship goes to overtime. Chiefs get the ball first and are forced to settle for a field goal. Then on the ensuing possession, Titans win on a 90-yard TD run by Derrick Henry! MATT: 49ers DL sacks Aaron Rodgers seven times 7. Challenge Flags ME: GIVE US MORE LAST MINUTE DRAMA THIS WEEK!! MATT: Andy Reid…GET THAT MONKEY OFF YOUR BACK!!!!
