Food insecurity and food apartheid are a common challenge in many low-income and minority neighborhoods across the United States. Big supermarket companies avoid those areas because stores are unprofitable and small stores find that they make the most money on junk foods, sodas and liquor. Saba Grocers is an Oakland-based organization, founded in 2019, that works with those small stores to enable them to sell fresh produce sourced from minority farmers across the region. Join host Ronnie Lipschutz for a conversation with Lina Ghanem, director and co-founder of the Saba Grocers Initiative in Oakland.

I met Sam years ago in the consumer products goods space as a referral from someone else. Although we didn't end up doing business together, she made a lasting impression on me. A full wattage smile, enthusiasm and kindness in her office was how I would remember her as years progressed. Not too long ago, Sam experience a serious low that almost cost her, her life. What went from a fun and growing career turned into a nightmare which led her down a path of confusion, isolation and eventually a deep depression.Sam and I spoke after she walked through her experience and wanted to have her on the show to shed some light and help others. We spoke about our first initial interaction all the way to her being alone and isolating in her apartment up for days with insomnia. Her family and friends couldn't reach her and she walked through it all alone by her choice. What was born from that experience led her to where she is today. Im so grateful Sam decided to share her backstory growing up in an abusive household to walking through one of the darkest times in her life.If you or anyone you know may be struggling there is hope and people that can help share their experience strength and hope. You can reach Sam on instagram @samwghanem or @think_sgink_branding or by her website www.thinksgink.com. We hope you enjoy the show!

Join Andrea Petrone as he delves into the secrets of scaling organizations with Elias Ghanem, global head of Capgemini Research Institute for Financial Services. Discover the impact of a multicultural approach on scaling startups and the essential attributes, skills, and traits CEOs need to effectively lead growing companies. Get ready for an insightful and practical episode packed with valuable takeaways for leaders looking to scale their organizations to new heights. Key Takeaways: Mixing cultures and gaining a multicultural perspective is essential for personal growth and effective leadership in a globalised world. Startups should evolve into scale-ups with the right team, stable technology, and a clear product offering to effectively integrate with large organisations. Large organisations must accept a higher level of risk and embrace the differences that scale-ups bring to the table for successful partnerships. CEOs must learn to let go of control, trust and empower their team, and focus on preparing for the future rather than running day-to-day operations. Implementing an "oops management" approach, where employees are empowered to make decisions and learn from mistakes, is crucial for scaling organisations. Key leadership skills for scaling CEOs include humanity, self-awareness, focus, and driving results with clear commitments. Embracing diversity in terms of gender, culture, and perspectives leads to richer ideas and long-term success for organizations. Best Moments: "Mixing cultures is for me the most rewarding experience in my life." - Elias Ghanem "Accept to go a little bit higher on risk, and accept that the other one will not morph into you. Accept the difference." - Elias Ghanem "You need to earn the time to get bored." - Elias Ghanem "The minute you tell me this is an oops call, I don't, I'm not any force sitting in front of you, I'm sitting next to you. And we are now, the two trying to solve the problem." - Elias Ghanem "The more you bring people, you surround yourself with different genders, different cultures, different perspective, the richer become the idea." - Elias Ghanem Resources: Scaling Up by Verne Harnish Capgemini Research Institute for Financial Services' World Reports Like the show?

Grim but not too grim. Small, but not out. If you have any vested interest in Jordan you'll want to hear this casual & candid discussion about the economic landscape in Jordan, between host Imad Shawa & guest Fawaz Ghanem. Jordan is a poor post colonial nation with little natural resources to speak of, and a workforce by-in-large either in the informal economy or the public sector. Despite its public health and education sectors in long-term decline, the country remains stable politically, in contrast to most of its Arab peers. Thanks to the stabilizing efforts of both the internal affairs apparatus, and robust foreign relations. Ad hoc successes of entrepreneurial ventures and startups have placed Jordan on the business map in the region. However most real value has been leveraged through accessing foreign markets. Fawaz Ghanem walks us through the reasons behind Jordan's current economic situation, which is not all doom & gloom. Fawaz has over 20 years of investment banking experience between the US and the Middle East, including IPO's, Bond Issuances, M&A transactions, Privatizations, Restructurings and Private Placements. His investment banking career started at UBS in New York, and and in 2007 Mr. Ghanem founded Ithmar Invest which became a leading regional private investment banking firm. Imad and Fawaz both earned degrees from NYU's Stern School of Business. And they both happen to have attended one of Tony Robbins Unleash the Power Within events.
