Leftist Journalist Admits Wokeness Is Just About Money And Clicks, Media Companies Purging Far Left. Amid the ongoing civil war in media between investors and woke journalists something amazing was published. A Former employee of a political sports website, Deadspin, admitted that the story here is not about idealistic journalists sticking to their integrity but in fact a staff that knows far left, woke, and social justice politics get more clicks than sports stories do.One would probably like to know, why does a sports website write about Trump, the Democrats, and social justice issues anyway? Well now we have our answer.Great Hill Partners bought the Gizmodo Media Group, which used to be led by Gawker. They now want the sports outlet Deadspin to "stick to sports" but the staff is convinced that woke outrage politics generates more traffic, and they are probably right. But in the long term we are seeing these companies collapse. perhaps the wokeness is a short term gain heading for a long term loss. Clicks and traffic is not an audience, its ragebait. A Company needs paying subscribers to continue existing and it seems the staff don't realize it. All they know is that politics plays better than sports. But if media companies wanted political content they could just launch a political website. Why have 7 political websites when you can just have one?Support the show (http://timcast.com/donate)

After gaining notoriety with his "Dark Roast" YouTube video (since deleted) that accused various popular industry creatives of committing sexual, devious, and illegal acts to get their way to the top, Mark Waid––among others––reached out to Antarctic Press to voice concerns with their decision to publish Meyer's comic, JAWBREAKERS. After hearing those concerns, Antarctic Press terminated their contract with Meyer and went to the internet to spew bile in response. It's the return of NERD LAW! A MARVELOUS MONSTER: After a long gestation and some delays, Disney has officially acquired 20th Century Fox assets, comprising of Fox's film and tv properties. This means everything from the Alien franchise to Bob's Burgers and even The Simpsons are now owned by Disney. Of course, for comic book fans and fans of comic book movies, the biggest part of this deal means that the X-Men and the Fantastic Four film rights are now under Disney/Marvel control. But it's a much bigger––and more complicated––deal than just the superhero franchises and make some people a little nervous. WHAT NINTENDON'T: Emulation software has been on the internet for at least twenty years at this point, allowing people to download and play often near-perfect versions of games from the NES, SNES, and many other classic consoles. While playing emulated games have always been legally murky, Nintendo's big legal smackdown of a few emulator and ROM sites in particular have really shaken the whole community in more ways than one. There's a lot to wrestle with these last couple weeks. There's the awful, heartbreaking news that came out of Parkland Florida. There's the surprise indictments by Robert Mueller. There's the continued awful sh*tposting from Trump in Florida. And then there's a news report that Maureen was perhaps born for: That the government is proposing creating a "Blue Apron-type program" to replace food stamps. How terrible an idea is that? Let Maureen take you there (if Dan will let her). In addition to struggling with the news, Dan and Maureen are joined by Ashley Feinberg, a reporter who has taken reading the Trump family social media accounts to a whole 'nother level. Who's dissing who through passive-aggressively forgetting their birthday? Just which Trump kid is the dumbest? Just what is going on with Trump's hair? We ask a literal, actual expert. Really! In Episode 4 we interview Kashmir Hill (@kashhill) and Reese Piper (@thenudereporter). We also talk about the new Patreon content guidelines. We start by discussing Patron's new content guidelines, which many creators fear will lead to a crackdown on adult content. PJ reads an excerpt from the "Open Letter to Patreon" posted by Liara Roux. We recommend Samantha Cole's "Adult Content Creators: Patreon Is Doing ‘the Exact Opposite of What We Asked For’" in Vice's "Motherboard." We then interview Kashmir Hill, a San Francisco-based investigative reporter with Gizmodo Media Group, who writes about technology and privacy. She talks to us about her recent article on how Facebook's "People You May Know" feature outs sex workers. We also discuss the many ways Facebook/Instagram algorithms may put marginalized people (sex workers, queer youth, domestic abuse survivors, etc.) at risk as well as possible ways of safeguarding your identity. You can find the uploaded contacts feature mentioned in this segment at: https://www.facebook.com/invite_history.php Finally, we chat with Reese Piper, a stripper, autistic woman, and journalist, who reports on sex work challenges, migrant issues, and the secret lives of autistic women. We discuss her work as a stripper both in Australia and in Manhattan, and the challenges she has faced understanding the complex environment of strip clubs as an autistic woman. We also talk about the FckShameProject (@FckShameProject), a platform she helped to create in order for sex workers to be able to talk about bad days or trauma that they experience in their work without condemning sex work as a whole.

Untitled Car Show's Podcast

Ike is up way too early this episode to chat with Matt Hardigree, Executive Editor, Publishing Partnerships at Gizmodo Media Group. Oh yeah, and he used to run this little car site called Jalopnik. They talk about his car history, their shared love of Volvos, and how he started in journalism and joined Jalopnik, which was basically “Fake it till you make it, or they ruin your career.” Matt reminisces about the glory days of Gawker Media, their unconventional journalism philosophy, and tells us how he transitioned out of Jalopnik to manage videos and events for all of Gawker’s sites. They talk about the Hulk Hogan lawsuit that ultimately killed Gawker and how it affected Matt personally. Finally, they discuss what story Matt would do with an unlimited budget, the Hardibird phenomenon and “asshole commenters on the internet,” and that matzo ball soup is Jewish penicillin.
