With Manchester thumping Newcastle at the Etihad and Omar Marmoush getting on the scoresheet again, does Pep have a selection headache on his hands? Especially with Haaland still searching for his first-ever goal at Liverpool. Elsewhere, after a drab semi-final at the Emirates, are Arsenal in danger of becoming boring to watch this season? And more importantly, would their fans even care if it ends with multiple trophies? Gary and Micah also dive into Liam Rosenior's tactical approach, questioning whether he got it wrong by switching to a back five for the first time in his Chelsea tenure. Should he have been braver and gone for it from the start? The Rest Is Football is powered by Fuse Energy. To sign up and for terms and conditions, visit fuseenergy.com/football. On the review of the weekend football Suj and James reflect on yet another Gameweek where FPL points were hard to find and it all began before deadline with leaks that Erling Haaland and Phil Foden would not start for Manchester City. Trouble was, that for those who has the info, a change in captaincy didn't necessarily bring reward. So, with Mo Salah back, is dropping Haaland a genuine consideration? Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Chelsea all won and will have interest in their assets, and so too will Manchester United assets following their win at league leaders Arsenal. There was more frustration for James as Tottenham failed to win (and nearly lost at Burnley), but Suj's West Ham did make it back to back wins, trouble was Nottingham Forest one too. All the games and all the key FPL talking points covered. This week on the pod we're joined by the legend Dean Saunders. Now best known for his TalkSPORT appearances, but many moons ago he was managing “two strikers who could do things Haaland couldn't” our very own Chris Brown and Jon Parkin… and he didn't have a bad playing career either. Dean's training sessions have gone down in Under The Cosh folklore, especially for the prizes handed out, including a racehorse for Friday's man of the match. Today, we finally hear straight from the horse's mouth (Saunders, not Constitution Hill
Dharmesh Sheth is joined by Jack Pitt-Brooke, John Cross and Jack Rosser to break down the weekend's biggest football talking points. We start with the Manchester Derby, as Michael Carrick delivers a dream day at Old Trafford. United claimed a 2–0 win in a game where they had three goals ruled out, a Harry Maguire header off the bar, and an Amad Diallo post-hit late on. Meanwhile, Pep's City struggled with defensive absentees and a dry-spell for Haaland, but are they out of the title race?Staying with the title race, we turn to Arsenal's goalless draw against Nottingham Forest. John argues it was a missed opportunity for Arteta's side, who had the chance to move nine points clear of Manchester City. And we ask – should Arsenal have been awarded a penalty for Ola Aina's handball in the closing stages? And finally, attention then turns to Crystal Palace, following a bombshell interview from Oliver Glasner, in which the manager claims his squad has been abandoned by the club's hierarchy.Sunday Supplement is a Sky Sports podcast. The boys share their thoughts on Barcelona's tense 3-2 win over Real Madrid in the Spanish Supercopa Final (in Saudi Arabia) including Raphina's heroics and Madrid's missed opportunities. We'll also dive in the magic of the cup as Non-League Macclesfield stun defending champions Crystal Palace and... well... Manchester City drop 10 on Exeter City (but Haaland didn't score, so at least Exeter have that). On the homefront, Ricardo Pepi suffers a broken arm while scoring for PSV and Josh Sargent appears motivated to leave Norwich City and England as a whole. And finally, we're joined by Paul Fraser, writer of the movie 'Saipan' about Roy Keane's dramatic falling out with Mick McCarthy ahead of the 2002 World Cup. After last week's 16-point haul, Haaland captains have eat some humble pie as the big Norwegian blanks for his owners. Also well-captained Hugo Ekitike outperforms him with a single assist against Wolves, but it's Wirtz in midfield that steals the show and the FPL points this week. Villa's excellent run continues with a win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, so we look ahead to Tuesday's clash with Arsenal in anticipation of a mouth-watering tie. elsewhere this week, DCL just keeps on scoring, West Ham lose again (miserably) at home to Fulham and Manchester beats Newcastle in the clash of the Uniteds. Jacob has concluded his adventures in Oceania and Asia, and both of us are back in New York to hunker down for the Festive Fixtures. (And to closely follow AFCON with a keen eye toward any innovations in neck tension relief. Looking at you, Patson!) Hugo Ekitiké is on the forefront of most FPL managers' minds, and for good reason—fixtures don't get any juicier than Wolves at home. The perfect way to fund Ekitiké seems to be selling Bruno, who's injured for the first time in years. But for which other midfielder? Options are plentiful—Cunha and Rice lead the pack, while Gordon, Rogers, and maybe even a wild Florian Wirtz are also in contention. Finally, for captaincy, any decent striker against Wolves probably isn't the worst idea—especially when they've just scored five goals in their last three three matches—but is this really the week to bet against the ever-dominant Haaland?
This week Sam & Natalie are joined by Manchester United's very own...Nicky Butt!Nicky Butt sits down alongside Sam Allardyce and Natalie Pike to discuss all things football from Manchester United's season to what went wrong for Newcastle against Sunderland. They start the pod by talking in great depth about their time together at Newcastle, why the fans are so hard to please, Nicky's thoughts on working with Big Sam and why getting rid of Sam was an awful idea. The trio then discuss Manchester United as an institution, why they NEED more ex-players involved with the club and Ruben Amorim doesn't know the culture of Manchester United.Nicky & Sam then chat about why they hate the class of 92 tag, why they probably wouldn't have made it in today's era and they duo react to Amorim calling out United youngsters.Nicky, Sam & Natalie then talk about almost making Ronaldo cry in training, Amorim's issues with Kobbie Mainoo & they give their opinions on the Shearer vs Haaland debate. Finally we end the pod discussing Newcastle's squad depth, the best derbies in England, Celtic struggling under Wilfried Nancy and Manchester United's 'madness' system.
Manchester City produced a commanding 3–0 away win over Crystal Palace, with Haaland and Foden on scoresheet. Natalie Pike is joined by Steven McInerney and Amos Murphy to deliver full-time reaction, analysis, and all the key talking points from a dominant Premier League display. Erling Haaland scored his 100th Man City goal in just 111 games last night, but that was only half the story on a crazy night at Craven Cottage. Fulham fought back from 1-5 down to make it a nervy ending for Pep Guardiola's side, but the Citizens held on to keep the gap between themselves and leaders Arsenal at two points before the Gunners face Brentford. Elsewhere, Newcastle twice led toothless Spurs at St James' Park, only for Cristian Romero to score a diving header and a 'bicycle kick', the second of which came halfway through nine minutes of added time, to break black and white hearts on Tyneside.
