".. Companies are saying data is the new oil - a lot of companies have really, really cool data that they just need to learn how to put into a story. And that's what Digital PR is, putting that data into a story to then get publications to pick that up and link to you, not mention you, link to you, because that builds your brand." - Harry Sanders, Founder of StudioHawk.Join me for a quick chat and a pile of insight, with a dominant force in Australian digital, that is expanding the StudioHawk #SEO magic globally. You'll also get the full transcript of this in my Smarter Impact Newsletter later this week, so make sure to follow my profile and subscribe to the newsletter (https://lnkd.in/grXqMebK).Harry and I get excited about Digital PR, take a look at 'how things are done these days' with a focus on treadmills and placing in Glamour, news.com.au and Nine, and how this all ties into Google's E-E-A-T score (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness).Ultimately, I'd suggest you do everything you can not to waste tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in effort and wages, and come out with a mediocre outcome, because you don't have a digital expert in your team.If you want great outcomes that work, you MUST ensure there is continuity and ownership of the final result, and that you give decision making power to the person leading the process.I regularly see companies using different providers at each stage, without someone leading the process, and critical things are always missed.- Business strategy-- Inc. defining your preeminent strategic driver, critical issue resolution and accountabilities- Digital content strategy-- Articulating that strategy into stories, Digital PR & SEO- Brand / website design / collateral updates- Website development- Completion of the Customer Journey Marketing loop- Team training for best use of new toolsThese all tie together, and this IS a hierarchy for a reason. You can work on any part of it as a individual project, though it must happen in context if you want effective results.Ignore this and you'll simply create greater drift in what you've already got, and expensive rework when you're sad at the mediocre outcomes. As my dad would ask me; why not DIRFT? The Calgary Stampede, winding down this week, is about more than Stetson hats and corn dogs. The annual festival creates an opportunity for Albertans of all backgrounds to come together over bull-riding rodeos, country music shows and pancake breakfasts. And this is certainly true for Jewish Albertans, whose community can trace it roots deep into the origins of the Wild Rose Country. On this week's episode of Bonjour Chai, David Sklar takes a deep dive into his adopted home's Jewish universe. He's assembled an expert panel on the past, present and future of Southern Albertan Judaism, featuring Judy Shapiro, a retired journalist and Jewish community professional; Harry Sanders, a director at the Jewish Historical Society of Southern Alberta; and Danielle Braitman, director of engagement programming at the Calgary Jewish Federation. Then, David visits Irena Karshenbaum of the "Little Synagogue on the Prairie", a 100-year-old shul recently relocated to Calgary's Heritage Park, and we'll hear clips from a Sunday morning kosher Stampede pancake breakfast, held by the Calgary JCC and House of Jacob Mikveh Israel. In this episode of the Road to Growth podcast, we are pleased to introduce you to Harry Sanders. Harry is the director and founder of StudioHawk. His main role is to innovate, adapt and lead in the world of SEO to ensure Studiohawk is always at the forefront of new adaptations in the industry. Harry was first introduced to the world of SEO at 13 after his father fell victim to a dodgy digital marketing agency who promised him the world but ended up delivering very little. Harry started undertaking the work himself and quickly fell in love with the mix of logic and creativity that SEO brings. This started to rank his father's business and several other websites he owned, which landed him his first job in the working world at the age of just 14 years old after being offered a role training their team within a digital marketing agency. He loved the world of SEO but after working in different agencies for 3 years he ended up dissatisfied with how these companies operated, trying to be everything to everyone and stretching the services until they became jacks of all trades but masters of none. So at 17 he decided to go at it alone. StudioHawk was born… A specialized company focusing on one thing… growing your organic search presence. Nothing more and nothing less. On the basis of no lock-in contracts, a strong focus on education, and strict discipline for saying no to projects they didn’t think would work or disagreed with, StudioHawk has since grown five years later to become the largest dedicated SEO agency in Australia. Since then the company has gone on to win the Australian Business Award for Marketing innovation, SEMRush’s Agency of the year 2019, as well as the MyBusiness, Marketing, Advertising, and PR award for 2019 as well. It doesn’t stop there, however, StudioHawk has since expanded to London and is in the midst of launching an SEO learning centre partnering with universities and education facilities to give the next generation, as well as business owners and CMO’s alike, the tools and understanding of SEO – because the more people that properly understand SEO, the better results people will achieve. When not focusing on SEO Harry is likely playing Runescape, Dota 2, Skateboarding, Hiking, or most likely attempting (poorly) to do all at the same time in the interest of ‘efficiency’. Imagine being recruited as a high paid consultant at age 14? This story began when my next guest witnessed his father get locked into a long term SEO contract. Coming from a family that was already in a difficult financial position, this contract sent his family into further financial ruin. At age 14 he decided he would solve the problem himself and learn SEO. By age 17 he was attending high school one day a week and making money hand over fist. The problem with being really good at something with very little life experience allows emotions to easily take over. With an inflated ego he left his employer on bad terms and spent his entire life savings on starting a new, and in his opinion, better business. Unfortunately he didn't think things through and ended up homeless in less than two weeks. The rug was pulled out and he hit rock bottom. At this point he made the decision to stay the course. He loves SEO and he knows he can help business rank higher in search engines. He decided to focus on providing the absolute best value he could. Fast forward to today, at age 23 he is now a millionaire with the fastest growing SEO agency in Australia. This is one of the most inspirational “rags to riches” stories I've heard in a long time. Meet this week's awesome studentpreneur: Harry Sanders, 18 y.o., High School student at University High School and founder of StudioHawk in Melbourne, Australia. In Year 9 Harry got the opportunity to do a different curriculum for a term. From that experience he landed an internship at 15 and then a year later decided to go on his own. To find customers he had to be inventive. He started doing mock-ups of websites based on logos of companies, and showed them to the business owners.... and it worked very well. Now at 18 Harry has just finished high school, keep an eye on this young studentpreneur. Quotes: 50% of SMEs don't have a website. There is always a cheaper alternative to the professional tools for SEO. I started at 16, so I need to prove myself to them. In terms of design for a website, there is a lot in the logo. Who is information on a website. Dont' send an email without a proper name ABN lookup or Whois. I learnt by trial and error. I get paid for something I enjoy. The start was the hardest. Don't expect to be making 6 figures. Set a goal. Perseverance is essential but know when it's not working.
