A major evolution is reshaping search: Google's AI Overviews. Sitting at the top of search results and summarizing information using generative AI, these overviews are redefining what it means to “rank” in search—and who gets clicks. In this episode, we break down a pair of recent studies analyzing hundreds of thousands of AI Overviews and reveal how this change is already affecting both organic and paid search traffic. Whether you're a marketer, SEO professional, or business owner, understanding these shifts is crucial to staying relevant in 2025 and beyond. What You'll Learn in This Episode:
MAJOR SEO SHIFTS HAPPENING NOW: "AI cannot write about experiences," I explained to John Jantsch on his Duct Tape Marketing podcast. I had the pleasure of sharing how Google's updated E-E-A-T principles now emphasize genuine experience over credentials, and offering practical strategies to future-proof your digital presence. We discussed content pruning techniques that quickly boost rankings and voice search optimization that prepares you for what I call "the Star Trek computer future"—approaches that will position you far ahead of competitors. Listen to our conversation now! The show notes, including the transcript and checklist to this episode, are at marketingspeak.com/500.
With nearly 60% of Google searches now ending without clicks, businesses must adapt their content strategy to gain visibility in featured snippets and knowledge panels. In this episode of One Quick Question, Pam Sanderson breaks down why blogging isn't enough for SEO anymore. Discover how Google's E-E-A-T guidelines are reshaping content strategies, why trust is now your biggest SEO asset and how to future-proof your content in a world increasingly influenced by AI. The digital landscape is shifting rapidly, but contrary to popular belief, SEO isn't disappearing in the age of AI—it's evolving. Jason breaks down exactly how to make your website discoverable across all platforms, whether through traditional Google searches, voice commands, or AI-powered tools. At the heart of modern searchability is the E-E-A-T principle: Expertise, Experience, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. This framework helps you create content that not only attracts your ideal clients but also signals to search engines that you're a credible source in your specific location and field. With AI-generated content creating unprecedented noise online, standing out requires a more strategic approach than ever before.Jason emphasizes that AI should be your assistant, not your replacement. While using AI to generate outlines or identify keywords can be valuable, simply copying and pasting AI-generated content makes your site indistinguishable from countless others. The magic happens when you personalize that foundation with your unique perspective and expertise. Beyond content, technical elements like schema markup help search engines understand exactly what services you offer, while properly structured individual service pages allow you to demonstrate deep expertise in each area rather than providing surface-level information on a single page.Ready to transform how your website performs across all search platforms? Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast | SEO, eCommerce, Digital PR, PPC, Web design and CRO
Welcome to The Dojo, a search marketing news podcast for goal-driven marketing leaders, hosted by Exposure Ninja, featuring Charlie Marchant (CEO) and Dale Davies (Head of Marketing)."Sorry, you can't sprinkle some experiences on your web pages."Google just dropped a bombshell statement claiming "you can't add E-E-A-T to your website" — but this widely misinterpreted comment hides a crucial truth that forward-thinking marketers need to understand. While Google's John Mueller dismissed the idea of "sprinkling experience on your web pages," what he was actually pushing back against, in our opinion, was artificial attempts to fake expertise through AI-generated authors and fabricated credentials. For businesses committed to authentic marketing, this distinction matters enormously — because genuine E-E-A-T signals remain one of the most powerful drivers of both search visibility and conversion rates. In this episode, we unpack:• The full context of Mueller's comments — and why they've been dangerously misinterpreted by some in the industry• Why E-E-A-T matters for all businesses — not just those in YMYL (Your Money, Your Life) categories• Actionable frameworks for authentically showcasing your expertise, experience, authority, and trustworthiness that satisfy both Google and potential customers• How E-E-A-T extends beyond SEO into every stage of your marketing funnel — from ads to emails to conversion optimization• The evolving relationship between links, mentions, and E-E-A-T signals — and why quality third-party validation remains crucialCharlie and Dale share practical implementation strategies based on work with real clients across multiple sectors, demonstrating how authentic expertise signals drive measurable business outcomes. As Charlie explains in the episode:"For businesses targeting decision-makers, seeing experience and expertise is crucial. Going beyond just content ranking and thinking about purchasing decisions — businesses absolutely want to purchase from other businesses that show credentials and experience. You trust them more than businesses where you're not seeing that."If you're ready to move beyond simplistic interpretations and implement a sophisticated E-E-A-T strategy that drives both rankings and revenue, this episode provides your complete action plan.Get the show notes: https://exposureninja.com/podcast/dojo-47/Listen to these episodes next:Everything Marketing Leaders Should Know About Google's NEW AI Modehttps://exposureninja.com/podcast/dojo-46/Copy This IMPACTFUL Brand Marketing Strategy in 2025https://exposureninja.com/podcast/extra-048/Copy This PERFECT Digital Marketing Strategy in 2025https://exposureninja.com/podcast/extra-047/
Search engine optimization has long been anchored to rank tracking, a methodical approach to monitoring keyword positions, optimizing for higher rankings, and using data to demonstrate marketing success. However, Google's recent algorithm updates have fundamentally disrupted traditional tracking tools, creating significant challenges for marketers seeking to measure search positions with their previous level of precision. In this episode of Content Logistics, host Baylee Gunnell engages in an in-depth conversation with Colin Costigan, Account Director at Marketers in Demand. Together, they dissect the evolving landscape of SEO, exploring how AI-driven search behavior, zero-click searches, and Google's dynamic ranking factors reshape digital marketing strategies.Colin explains how Google's commitment to enhancing user experiences and transitioning toward AI-generated overviews have deprioritized traditional rank positions. Instead, the focus has shifted to engagement-driven metrics. He delves deep into the E-E-A-T framework—Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness—offering strategic guidance on how businesses can optimize content for sustained visibility.Moving beyond the outdated approach of chasing rankings, Colin advocates for a more holistic strategy. He encourages marketers to concentrate on metrics that drive business growth, such as share of voice, user engagement, and conversion rates. The conversation extends to exploring the growing significance of video, images, and social signals in search rankings, providing listeners with a comprehensive understanding of modern SEO strategies.
Bruce Clay, the father of SEO, discusses how AI is reshaping digital marketing while SEO remains foundational.SEO has evolved from simple keywords to expertise, experience, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness (E-E-A-T).Bruce's "siloing" method organizes content by topic to showcase subject expertise.Proper "link equity" distribution is crucial but often misunderstood.Google's AI Overview has cut top organic click-through rates by up to 70%.Content that thoroughly answers questions performs best in search and AI results.Small businesses can compete using Google Business Profiles and local reviews while phasing in SEO.Bruce suggests four-week sprint planning for SEO due to constant algorithm shifts.Question-based searches have grown from 4% to 16% of all queries.Websites need technical excellence just to qualify for rankings.—----------Guest Contact Information: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bruce-clay/https://www.bruceclay.com/https://www.seotools.com/—----------More from EWR and Matt:Leave a Review if it was content you enjoyed: https://g.page/r/CccGEk37CLosEB0/reviewFree SEO Consultation: https://www.ewrdigital.com/discovery-callOne-on-One Consulting: https://www.ewrdigital.com/digital-strategy-consulting/private-consulting-session—The Unknown Secrets of Internet Marketing podcast is a podcast hosted by Internet marketing expert Matthew Bertram. We're back after a six-month hiatus! Life got busy, but we're diving back into digital marketing with a fresh new season. Today's episode is all about Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) and how it's set to transform online search and digital marketing strategies. What Is Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO)?GEO is a strategy designed to optimise content for AI-based search engines like Google's AI Overview/Gemini, ChatGPT, Bing AI, Perplexity, and Claude. Unlike traditional search, which returns a list of links, GEO ensures that content appears in AI-generated summaries and direct answers. How Does GEO Differ from SEO?SEO focuses on ranking web pages on traditional search engine results pages (SERPs) using keywords, backlinks, and technical SEO.GEO optimises content for AI-driven searches by emphasising context, semantic relevance, and structured data. Both prioritise high-quality content, user satisfaction, and structured data, but GEO requires more conversational, intent-based optimisation. Why GEO MattersAI-driven search engines provide direct answers to complex or multi-faceted queries.Users interact with AI tools in natural language, expecting precise and comprehensive responses.GEO-optimised content ensures your site is referenced in AI-generated responses, increasing visibility and authority. How to Optimise for GEOCreate High-Quality Content – Demonstrate expertise, experience, authority, and trustworthiness (E-E-A-T).Use Long-Tail & Conversational Queries – Write in natural language and include FAQ sections.Optimise for Entities – Provide contextual clues through related words and topics.Leverage Structured Data – Use schema markup and clear formatting to make AI understanding easier.Improve Content Layout – Keep paragraphs short, use appropriate headers, and avoid excessive jargon.Increase Off-Page Presence – Build backlinks and ensure your content appears across platforms.Diversify Content Formats – Include videos, quizzes, and infographics with proper metadata.Stay Updated & Experiment – GEO is evolving, so keep up with trends and refine strategies based on results. Is SEO Dead?Absolutely not! SEO and GEO complement each other, and traditional search engines still dominate. However, adapting to GEO ensures that your brand remains visible in AI-driven search environments. What's Next? We'll be diving deeper into GEO in upcoming episodes. In episode 603, Megan chats to Amy Angelli leveraging E-E-A-T and creating a robust About Page to significantly boost blog traffic. Amy founded The Copper Table in 2019 to share recipes that minimize processed ingredients with a focus on cooking in season and cooking from scratch using fresh produce. She wanted these recipes to be for people who are busy and often don't have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen, but want great meals that make them feel good after a busy day. She lives on a small island in Washington state between Seattle and the Canadian border in a richly agricultural area that provides a lot of inspiration and recipe ingredients! In this episode, you'll learn about how Amy tripled her traffic during Google's HCU as well as strategies for effective interlinking, crafting compelling opening paragraphs, and shifting mindset around recipe creation and keyword research. Key points discussed: - Update your About Page regularly: Continuously revise and expand your about page to showcase your expertise, authority, and trustworthiness as your knowledge and experience grow. - Link to your About Page conversationally: Incorporate links to your about page in a natural, conversational way within your recipe posts to guide readers and signal your authority. - Establish expertise in the opening: Dedicate the first 1-2 paragraphs of your recipe posts to clearly establishing your expertise and authority on the topic. - Address specific pain points: Focus on addressing specific pain points or needs that your recipe solves for the reader in the opening paragraphs. - Leverage your personal experiences: Incorporate relevant personal experiences, family history, or educational background that demonstrate your expertise in the niche. - Interlink strategically: Develop an interlinking strategy that connects your recipe posts to other relevant content, categories, and your about page to showcase the depth of your knowledge. - Prioritize helpfulness over metrics: Shift your mindset to focus on being a helpful, one-stop resource for your readers, rather than solely chasing traffic volume or low competition. - Continuously expand your expertise: Consider taking additional classes, courses, or pursuing other opportunities to deepen your knowledge and skills in your niche. - Maintain a positive mindset: Adopt a mindset of focusing on the present and not worrying excessively about future changes, as each day brings its own challenges. Have you recently found yourself saying, What the heck, Google?! Google search results have been experiencing significant changes, with an increase in discussion sites like Reddit and Quora appearing in search results. This is due to Google's emphasis on first-person experience (EEAT) and combating misinformation. However, the results often include outdated information and unreliable advice.Additionally, Google's AI overviews, formerly known as Search Generative Experience (SGE), have been quietly rolled out, providing automatic answers to queries but sometimes pulling in inaccurate information from sources like forums. The leaked Google algorithms reveal that clicks, click-through rates, and length of page visits are ranking signals, while on-page SEO and technical backend optimization are less important than we previously thought. To adjust to these changes, marketers should diversify their strategies and focus on reaching their audience where they are through channels like YouTube, events, thought leadership, referrals, digital advertising, and public relations. Content strategies should prioritize deep technical content, real-world projects, and data, rather than introductory topics. It's important to stay flexible and adjust plans as Google's search landscape continues to evolve.TakeawaysGoogle search results now prioritize content from discussion sites to provide a first-person perspective. However, this shift has resulted in outdated and unreliable information appearing in search results due to a lack of oversight.Google's AI overviews, previously known as SGE, provide automatic answers to queries but may pull in inaccurate information and are not always pulling from the most authoritative sources.Clicks, click-through rates, and length of page visits are ranking signals, while on-page SEO and technical backend optimization are less important.Marketers should diversify their strategies and focus on reaching their audience through channels like YouTube, events, thought leadership, referrals, digital advertising, and public relations.Content strategies should prioritize deep technical content, real-world projects, and data, rather than introductory topics.ResourcesConnect with Erin on LinkedInConnect with Wendy on LinkedInAn Anonymous Source Shared Thousands of Leaked Google Search API Documents with Me; Everyone in SEO Should See ThemReddit shown excessively in Google product review search results, study findsTREW Marketing Strategy ServicesRelated Episode: The Evolving Search Landscape of 2023, from E-E-A-T to AIRelated Episode: What We've Learned from Google's Search Generative Experience (SGE)

E-A-T? Now it’s E-E-A-T. And SEO is buzzing again. Remember when Google first brought out E-A-T? I watched a startup’s guide jump from page three to the top of page one simply by boosting their author’s credentials. It was a game-changer. Now, the stakes are higher with talk of Google amplifying this to E-E-E-A-T. Why?…
Welcome to Tiny Bites from the Food Blogger Pro Podcast! This week on the podcast, Bjork interviews Jeff Coyle from MarketMuse about creating content and SEO in a world with AI. ----- It's hard to believe that technologies like ChatGPT and Bard have only been available for the last year. AI is constantly evolving and, with it, our understanding of how it will impact content creation. It's easy to feel helpless with the growth of AI technologies — is there a world in which food creators can succeed against AI? That's why we've asked Jeff Coyle to join us on the podcast. He's here to discuss the impact of AI on online content creation and what you can do to protect yourself and your business against the competition from AI. How to create AI-proof content If you're providing consistent value with your content, if you've built trust with your brand, and you've illustrated your expertise, you're at an advantage in a world with generative content. In other words, the tools you would use to stand out amongst all the other chocolate chip recipes in the world are very similar to those you'll need to stand out against AI. When you're creating content: Avoid being generic. Include your voice and personality. Include tips for ingredient substitutions. Highlight potential mistakes to avoid in the recipe. Include high-quality photographs and step-by-step videos. By including these features in your content, you're providing a unique value and sharing expertise that (at least right now) AI can't replicate. Part of this equation is ensuring that you're positioning yourself as an expert on your site (E-E-A-T, anyone?). Jeff predicts that with the growth of AI, we'll see a shift towards the true expertise of the individual creating the content and a shift away from mass-producing content. Lean into that!
