In this episode of the Dr. B Show Podcast, Dr. B welcomes mathematician and founder of the Hispanics Inspiring Students' Performance and Achievement or HISPA, Dr. Ivonne Diaz Claisse. Dr. Ivonne talks about the need to provide more role models for young people who will validate their dreams. Dr. Ivonne believes in the potential of young people, they just need to be exposed to the different opportunities that are available today at an early age. Through HISPA, Dr. Ivonne hopes to show young people the path to success, and equip them with what they need to get their desired career.HIGHLIGHTSEarly dreams and founding HISPATo study mathematics is to become a creative problem solver Developing a love of math through FibonacciStudents need role models to validate their dreams How you can help more students through HISPAQUOTESDr. Ivonne: "When you study mathematics, I always say, you can take any job. I always say that when you have an analytic mind, you are a problem solver. And we have to say that those are the skills for the future. We don't know what the jobs of the future really are. But if we focus on educating students and giving them the opportunity to really look at problems and look for solutions and be creative." Dr. Ivonne: "Now I see a problem in society. Not having access to a role model is a roadblock for our youth. That should not be the case. So let's eradicate that problem. It's just looking at it, and then finding how do we optimize the solution for that. We are optimizing the time of the individuals that are volunteering, and we are optimizing the times of the schools and the students. So it becomes a math problem." Dr. Ivonne: "Adelante si se puede. Yoann Hispa and Craig Kaiser join us from LandGate, a technology driven online marketplace that is looking to revolutionize the way natural resources are bought and sold in the market by giving buyers and sellers ample amounts of free data and valuation benchmarks.
Yoann Hispa is the CEO and co-founder of Landgate.com. LandGate is an open Property Rights Marketplace that provides free listings of mineral assets, wind, water, solar, timber, cell tower rights, and more. Prior to founding Landgate, Yoann was President of Optimix Energy Corp where he worked as COO for Private Investors, Private Equities, and small E&P companies in their oil and gas evaluations, acquisitions, divestitures, and drilling operations. Yoann has 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry mainly with Operators in various technical roles from Geoscientist to Reservoir Engineer. Quotes: “We need to calculate how many resources are in place and how much can be exploited, how many more wells can be drilled to exploit that resource. And, when those wells will likely be drilled based on recounts and activity from operators. Then, based on SEC reserves, we need to tie these future cash flows to a reserve category and risk them. At the end, you just add up all of those cash flows and you end up with the market value.” “Diversify your portfolio with a lot of real estate investors and get some actual resources in there.” Highlights: 4:27- Yoann gives us his background, tells us about landgate.com, and how it came about 14:50- Yoann tells us the likelihood that landowners have some type of mineral or water under their land that increases the value and what the evaluation method looks like 19:32- Yoann tells us how much accuracy he’s able to tell how much oil can be exploited from a location that has never been drilled 25:35- Yoann compares his services to buying gas stock 31:31- Opportunities in solar and wind investments Guest Website: https://landgate.com/home Learn About Investment and Partnership Opportunities with Kevin and His Team
In this segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Dr. Jeb Sprague, a Research Associate at the Institute for Research on World-Systems (IROWS) at the University of California, Riverside and author of “Globalizing the Caribbean: Political economy, social change, and the transnational capitalist class,” to discuss ongoing protests in the Dominican Republic after municipal elections were abruptly canceled by government officials, how the long history of colonialism on the island of Hispañola continues to inform the racial and economic dynamics underlying the class struggle there, the role of various political parties and 'civil society' in all the unrest, how the US State Department has responded to the protests, and how their preferred neoliberal factions serve to help them maintain capitalist hegemony.
On this episode of By Any Means Necessary, hosts Sean Blackmon and Jacquie Luqman are joined by Dr. Jeb Sprague, a Research Associate at the Institute for Research on World-Systems (IROWS) at the University of California, Riverside and author of “Globalizing the Caribbean: Political Economy, Social Change, and The Transnational Capitalist Class,” to discuss ongoing protests in the Dominican Republic after municipal elections were abruptly canceled by government officials, how the long history of colonialism on the island of Hispañola continues to inform the racial and economic dynamics underlying the class struggle there, the role of various political parties and 'civil society' in all the unrest, how the US State Department has responded to the protests, how their preferred neoliberal factions serve to help them maintain capitalist hegemony. In the second segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Ajamu Baraka, National Organizer for the Black Alliance for Peace, to talk about the news that the US military seems to be systemically undercounting the civilian casualties of their airstrikes in Somalia, the role of the US military's AFRICOM mission in the re-colonization of the African continent by NATO powers, why despite operating in dozens of African countries AFRICOM is actually headquartered in Germany, how the evolving 'Great Power competition' with China plays into the US decision to militarize the continent, and how the Trump administration's move to allow the military to classify civilians as enemy combatants paves the way for the US to turn Africa into another theater of conflict. In the third segment, Sean and Jacquie are joined by Watani Tyehimba of the organization Friends and Family of Dr. Mutulu Shakur to discuss the effort to get compassionate release for former Black Panther and life-long radical organizer Mutulu Shakur, his recent diagnosis of life-threatening bone marrow cancer and medical mistreatment while incarcerated, and what people can do to spread the word about Dr. Shakur's condition.Later in the show, Jacquie and Sean are joined by Eugene Puryear, former host of By Any Means Necessary and current host of BreakThrough News, to talk about the upcoming premiere of BreakThrough News, how this show and other alternative media helped inspire the new outlet, the release of a new study by two MIT researchers rejecting claims by the OAS that the October Bolivian election was fraudulent, what explains the clear double standard between how mainstream media treats elections in Bolivia and Democratic caucuses here, why Joe Biden's portrayal of South Carolina as a must-win state means his campaign is toast if he doesn't beat Sanders by a comfortable margin, what Al Sharpton's exhortation that people not base their votes on red-baiting reveals about the strength of the Sanders campaign, why corporate media and the Democratic establishment are now openly declaring their intention to rob Sanders of the nomination if he doesn't secure an outright majority of delegates, why wishful thinking appears to have replaced situational awareness among establishment Democrats, what Elizabeth Warren may be hoping to accomplish by staying in the campaign, whether Deontay Wilder's excuse that he lost his boxing match to Tyson Fury because his costume was too heavy holds any water, whether it's fair to label Elizabeth Warren a "progressive," what the contrast between Sanders' and Warren's responses to the anti-Muslim pogroms in India reveal about their respective ideologies, why her decades spent as a fake-native Republican cast doubt on her credibility, and why neither Warren's appropriation of indigeneity nor Joe Biden's appropriation of the anti-Apartheid struggle seem to disqualify them from consideration.

Not to get too hung up on intellect, we decide to look at violent protests, and how we feel about "punching nazis". We then take a quick detour to discuss the liberation of Hispañola. Finally, we wrap it up with a rather contagious PopCon..... H.I.V.. is it a weapon to destroy LGBTQ communities ? Was it a tool to reverse the sexual revolution ? Is it a virus ? Who bung the monkey ? See you next time…
Never miss another interview! Join Devin here: http://bit.ly/joindevin. Kevin Adair and Franz “Franky Fanfan started working on the Island of Hispañola in 2005, hoping to bring solar cooking to the Dominican Republic. Slowly, over the years, their focus has shifted to Haiti, where they are working to eliminate charcoal in favor of briquettes made from recycled paper, cardboard and sawdust. Up to 90 percent of the energy present in wood is lost when it is turned into charcoal. When you light a piece of charcoal, you are left with only 10 percent of the energy present in the wood used to make it. Adair and Fanfan are using a process for making briquettes that doesn’t start with burning away most of the energy. Instead, the briquettes are made in a slurry, formed and dried and can then be burned efficiently in special, highly efficient wood-burning stoves. Their approach is to convert institutional kitchens from charcoal stoves to their briquettes and high-efficiency stoves. Once done, a kitchen can cook more quickly and efficiently at lower cost, with fewer health effects on those cooking and far superior outcomes for the environment.
