In this episode, Dr. Eder Garavito explains his new platform, Scholarnetics 360, which aims to match clinicians to experienced and vetted mentors within the profession. Too often, clinicians are semi-forced into mentorship relationships that may or may not be fruitful. Scholarnetics 360 gives the mentee the onus of control to choose a mentor that they feel will be best suited for them for as much or as little as they need. Endless potential for this much needed platform. Thanks Eder! Discloure: Dr. O'Bright, RHE, nor the PCPT Podcast, have any vested interest (financial or otherwise) in Scholarnetics 360. This episode was recorded for the exclusive purpose of awareness of mentorship options.

We've got a hunch... this podcast outta be defunct...but not before we ride the psychedelic wave into becoming the best podcast about the Funkadelic and the 136th greatest album of all time, Maggot Brain. If your expectations for this episode were low, we delivered when we take a voicemail about studying abroad, discuss exotic animals, and provide a music video breakdown of DJ Snake's and Lil Jon's Turn Down for What, which is certain to give you an RHE. We also discuss bar hopping, how long to wait at a restaurant, and desert sharing etiquette. Turns out that if you base your desert sharing on credit, and the carrot cake is gone, checks you signed with cheesecake in the fridge, come back insufficient funds. Then at (47:00) we move on to some other strains of thought when we discuss Funkadelic's third studio album, Maggot Brain. We discuss Jimmy Hendrix's influence on George Clinton and Eddie Hazel, Funkadelic's influence on hip-hop, and the best songs with deep bass voices. Rumour has it that next week we'll become the best Adele podcast when we go rolling in the deep in her second studio album, 21.

On this Thanksgiving week, and on the occasion of the release of WHOLEHEARTED FAITH, we re-release Ken's conversation with Peter Held. When Rachel died in May of 2019, she left behind a nearly finished manuscript. This month, with Jeff Chu's able assistance, that book has been released. On this podcast, Ken has the honor of a long talk with Professor Peter Held, Rachel Held-Evan's Dad. The world grieved just last year when a shocking, mysterious illness took this author, inspirational speaker, counselor, and Mom to two young children. Ken read several of her books - he was/is a fan of her life and work. Dr. Held opens up about his own background and then reflects on Rachel's growing up years and her start as a thinker and writer. Ken and Pete walk through the abrupt, dark days of her illness and then the tidal of love and support that rolled in from all corners of the globe. Ken reads from the blog he posted just after the news of Rachel's untimely passing. SHOW NOTESWholehearted Faith By Rachel Held Evans with Jeff Chu Support the show (http://thebeachedwhitemale.com)

In this episode, we get down and dirty and nerdy with Scripture, specifically with the first three chapters of Genesis. We're breaking down the misconceptions about the text that we were taught by the evangelical churches we grew up in, and providing another way of looking at these topics from a scientific and LGBTQ+ affirming standpoint, while also honoring its place in the bigger story of God. We also discuss what the Bible is to us, as progressive Christians (definitely not inerrant, we can tell you that), and bring up our curiosities about the Creation narratives (yes, plural) that still remain unanswered. It's not everyday a plane filled with 239 passengers and crew goes missing and is never found. 7 years ago on March 8th 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 took off on a routine flight from Malaysia to China. The journey was to be 5 hours and family members gathered at the airport in Beijing to await their loved ones. They never arrived. One hour after take off, flight 370 took a sharp turn back towards Malaysia after the radar and communications on board were shut off. It was supposed to be a normal routine flight, but it took just several hours and then they were gone. What happened that day ? Several theories have been speculated rating from possible hijacking to alien abduction. To understand the theories, one must know the timeline and facts first. For the premiere of our season on famous disappearances, Raven and Rhe uncover the details and speculations of what took place on March 8th, 2014, and discuss if there is a chance we will know the full and true story of the mystery behind flight 370.
The final episode in the pilot season of the Very Eerie, Extremely Wicked, and Quite Spooky podcast. This season has been all about the perplexing world of cults and how they may start off as welcoming communes that bring peace but eventually turn into something more sinister or vile. Unlike the previous cults we have discussed, Heaven's Gate falls on to a different spectrum. It didn't have scandals or allegations of abuse that led to its downfall. It didn't have a siege or was claiming to be something it was not. Heaven's Gate was an American UFO religious cult that believed they would be taken to a extra terrestrial spacecraft when they received a ‘sign'. That ‘sign' came in 1997 when Comet Hale-Bopp passed Earth on its path toward the sun. What did the members do ? Find out when Raven & Rhe dive deep into the rise and fall of Heaven's Gate to close out the pilot season.

Of all the purposes institutions of higher education serve, what is the ultimate? The students. It behooves RHE to garner the student perspective. Today's episode is the first one that garners ideas from the student perspective. Our guest, Katherine Walsh, has established herself as a young thought leader. Ms. Walsh is an undergraduate student at Marquette University and was featured in the Wall Street Journal in November, 2020. Every person carries this around and its impossible to avoid. However, to be a fair observer we need to constantly checking ourselves, motivations and biases! We are doing our best to stay objective and show how this is unavoidable and how we are all in fact frail. http://www.rhepodcast.com https://anchor.fm/rhe-podcast https://www.facebook.com/rhepodcast
For nearly two months in 1993, the city of Waco, Texas was under the spotlight for the intense standoff between federal and state law enforcement against the religious sect The Branch Davidians, led by David Koresh. A religious group originating in the 50s, The Branch Davidians were founded based on Victor Houteff's prophecy of an imminent apocalypse involving the Second Coming of Jesus. After allegations of abuse and potentially housing illegal weapons, law enforcement began investigating and decided to arrest Koresh. The decision would lead to a siege lasting two months, which ended in tragedy. On episode 4 in their discussion of infamous cults, Raven & Rhe explore the chilling group who's historical and tragic standoff made front line news, and was cited as the inspiration behind the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing.

⚠️TRIGGER WARNING: CHILD S*XUAL ABUSE* A family with a sinister history. On episode 3 of our pilot season on cults, Raven and Rhe get pretty heated when discussing the notorious group Children Of God which unlike the previous cults we've looked at, this one is still active despite the decades worth of scandals, controversies, and illegal activities. This cult is known to have once had members you may recognize like the family of River & Joaquin Phoenix as well as Rose McGowan. We warn our watchers/listeners that if you are sensitive to the topics of s*xual abuse of children, i*cest, & human trafficking then it would be wise to not tune into the episode or at least be aware that these concepts will be discussed as they are related to the group. #cults #truecrime #truecrimepodcast
In this episode of RHE, we take a close look at the tenure system in higher education and address questions like "what is tenure? Where did it come from? What does mean to have tenure?" We also take close look at some current news that indicate a different trend towards the reduction and/or elimination of tenure. In late January, the Kansas Board of Regents approved a policy allowing public universities in Kansas to get rid of tenured professors without cause, which is unprecedented. We will also review other headwinds that suggest the nature, of tenure is likely to change. Support this podcast
Have you ever had someone tell you “don't drink the kool-aid?” Did you know that phrase was coined following the tragedy of Jonestown that took place in 1978? After 918 devoted followers of The Peoples Temple died from drinking cyanide laced KooL-aid, the phrase means for one to not be taken in by anything like an idea or person to the point where your whole life is dedicated to it, which is unfortunately what happened on that fateful day in Guyana. On the pilot episode of season one of The Very Eerie, Extremely Wicked, & Quite Spooky Podcast, Raven and Rhe will explore the perplexing rise and tragic fall of Jim Jones' The People's Temple, which prior to the attacks on 9/11 was the greatest single loss of American citizens.

In the spirit of the "RHE" motto, we are discussing philosophical problems we find in our own position. While it is easy to attack the positions of others, it takes a lot of good will to try to poke holes in the logic of your own ideas. Rob made it a point to say he makes a practice of disagreed with himself. In life, this is a good exercise. as it will ironically serve to strengthen your own position. The great Lao Tzu said that if you don't know yourself and your enemy you will lose, if you know yourself but not your enemy you will exchange loses. But if you know yourself and know your enemy, you will win the war. To truly be successful, you need to know your foes arguments better than they do. While we do not seek to call each other enemies or foes, we are earnestly trying to see the perspective of people who we disagree with, while at the same time having understanding of the frailty of ourselves in the process. https://anchor.fm/rhe-podcast

As several states are passing extremely restrictive anti-abortion laws, and civil rights are increasingly being denied to a number of groups in the United States, Jaye discusses the conservative evangelical Christianity that got us here. Is conservative evangelicalism "real Christianity" and why does the answer to that question matter? How does evangelicalism lead its adherents to support authoritarian, regressive, and cruel politicians and public policies? Jaye shares her personal experience in evangelical Christianity for first-person insight into the methods and teachings that lead evangelical Christians to extreme stances on issues that may have little to no basis in the Bible they claim is inerrant. Last weekend, Slate published an obituary for Rachel Held Evans, the blogger who championed liberal values and challenged evangelicals on their politics. She was known to her devoted readers as RHE, and she represented something new in evangelical Christian communities, as some began to shift toward a progressive ideology nevertheless rooted in faith. That movement is now expanding beyond churches and into the political sphere, where Christians are no longer assumed to be conservative. Guest: Slate staff writer Ruth Graham.
