The Mahmod family fled Iraq to pursue a better life in South London in the late 1990's, but a better life was not waiting there for the young girls in the family. The parents and other elders imposed strict, religious values onto Banaz Mahmod and her sisters; compromising everything they understood about right and wrong. When Banaz went missing in January of 2006, her boyfriend knew that her many warnings to police were, in fact, premonitions.  Instagram: @CousinsonCrimePodcast Email: CousinsonCrime@gmail.com Theme Music by AleXZavesa Join our new Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/CousinsOnCrime Check out our merch store! https://cousinsoncrime-shop.fourthwall.com/? End Honour Killings co-founder Nina Aouilk reveals the shocking reality of forced marriage, domestic slavery, and honor killings in the West. [Pt. 2/2 — find Pt. 1 here!] What We Discuss with Nina Aouilk: Nina Aouilk survived multiple instances of severe domestic abuse, including an attempted honor killing by her family and years of control and violence from her partner. Honor killings and forced marriages are still occurring in Western countries like the UK, USA, and Canada, often hidden within certain cultural communities. The imprisonment of Nina's father for trafficking his own child highlights the urgent need for awareness and action against human trafficking in all communities. Many victims of abuse and potential honor killings are afraid to speak out due to cultural pressures, shame, and fear, which enables the cycle of abuse to continue. There are ways we can all help combat these issues: trust your intuition if you suspect someone is in danger, ask simple questions to disrupt potential violent situations, make discreet calls to authorities if you're concerned about someone's safety, and support organizations working to end honor killings and forced marriages (like Nina's own End Honour Killings). And much more — be sure to check out part one of this conversation here if you haven’t already! End Honour Killings co-founder Nina Aouilk reveals the shocking reality of forced marriage, domestic slavery, and honor killings in the West. [Pt. 1/2] What We Discuss with Nina Aouilk: Nina Aouilk grew up in an abusive household in the UK, where she was treated as a servant and subjected to severe physical and emotional abuse by her family. At age 14, Nina was gang-raped by her father and his friends, resulting in a pregnancy that was forcibly aborted. Her mother blamed Nina for the assault. At age 15, Nina was traded by her father to one of her rapists in a sham marriage arrangement, where she continued to face extreme abuse and exploitation. Nina witnessed horrific cultural practices like bride burnings and infanticide of baby girls in her community, with little intervention from authorities. Despite the trauma, Nina found ways to persevere, such as excelling at work and finding moments of kindness. Her story shows that it's possible to overcome even the most difficult circumstances through resilience, seeking opportunities, and holding onto hope for a better future. As co-founder of End Honour Killings, she now empowers and educates women and girls worldwide to break their cycles of abuse and live the lives they deserve. The hatred for Homosexuals in Gaza ranks close to the hatred of Jews.  It's not just Hamas that engages in "Honor Killings" of gay people in "Palestine," but every day Palestinians do as well.  In fact the punishment for being gay in Gaza is prison, torture and often death.  Yet that doesn't stop the un-informed protest class of America to somehow back the Palestinians and Hamas at all cost.  Even leftist members of the gay community seem to be all in for the destruction of Israel, and the love of the Palestinians.   Their support stems from not only ignorance of what Sharia Law means for gays in Muslim areas, but an effort by the main stream media to cover up the sexual preference genocide going on inside Gaza. "Stinchfield" uncovered audio of Muslims in Gaza and the United States openly calling for the imprisonment and death of all gay people.  This revelation buy some of the most left leaning members of the LGBTQ community seems to be a shocker.  Wait until you hear the proof of this hatred and the surprise that follows, in their own words.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Caroline Goode served for 33 years in the Metropolitan Police in London. She retired as a Detective Superintendent in the Counter-Terrorism Command after spending ten years leading more than 100 complex murder investigations. One of those investigations, the so-called honour killing of a young Iraqi Kurdish woman by her family, was to become a life changer for Caroline. This investigation, which began as a simple missing person's report, was particularly challenging and complex. After the Banaz case, she trained thousands of police officers nationally and internationally in Honour Based Violence Awareness and was awarded the Queens Policing Medal for her work in 2012. Caroline joins me today to detail the damage that honour-based violence still does to women in the UK and explains her role in the shocking murder of 20-year-old Banaz Mahmod, which was subsequently dramatised in the TV series Honour starring Keeley Hawes. She shares her experience of joining the Metropolitan Police as an 18-year-old woman and some of the challenges she faced at the start of her career. Caroline also discusses why she looked to progress her career in the Metropolitan Police in complex investigative work and why she has always preferred to work in teams that support victims. "We need to keep raising awareness of honour-based violence about it in whichever format we can - there needs to be a wholly consistent approach, or we're going to end up in a situation where these murders continue to happen ." - Caroline Goode Today on The Community Safety Podcast: How Caroline's interest in becoming a detective began with a traumatic experience Why she fought to get maternity regulations changed in the Metropolitan Police Caroline's first role as a Senior Investigating Officer and the investigation that changed her life The story of Caroline's involvement in the horrific Banaz Mahmod case and the eureka moment that eventually helped her team to bring her murderers to justice The difficulty of extraditing two of Banaz's killers from Iraqui Kurdistan and how Caroline made legal history during the process

On July 29, 1890, a hot and muggy afternoon, shortly after Vincent van Gogh was laid to rest after his honor killing for “compromising” his doctor's twenty-one-year-old daughter, Marguerite, twenty-six (26) of his unknown paintings and other art material were stolen from the hotel where he had been laid out for his final viewing by his doctor and his son. This was the largest art heist of a single artist ever, and today would be worth many billions! This theft led to the Gachet art forgery ring and many fakes, forgeries, and altered provenance for years. This is the story in the book 3 of the Killing Vincent Trilogy of what happened to all this art and to Marguerite and her sad, long life without her Vincent. This book three is the finale of the Trilogy. Book one was Killing Vincent and proved forensically that it was not possible for Vincent to self-inflict his mortal wound. If Vincent did not shoot himself in the belly, (of all places) then whoever put that penetrating wound in his abdomen murdered him! Book two, Love and Murder, now in your hands answers the questions of how, why, and where Vincent van Gogh was murdered and how a brilliant cover up of the murder was accomplished by the persons of interest using the false narrative of a suicide as a martyr for his art. There is also a sneak preview of chapter one from book three The Day Vincent van Gogh was Murdered; The Honor Killing that Changed Art History Forever and Led to The Greatest Art Heist in Modern Times. Hopefully this will you excite you to put the entire Killing Vincent Trilogy together in your mind's eye in preparation for the major movie, Finally Love.

Francesca Costa's name should never have been remembered.  In fact, had it not been for her great-niece's steadfast and unwavering love, any remembrance of Francesca's life would have been lost to time -- and that's exactly how the rest of her family wanted it. Italian American author Karen Tintori joins us this week to discuss her 2007 work, “Unto the Daughters.”  This chilling and sobering account of an honor killing in a turn-of-the-century Sicilian family– Karen's very own family— is also a beautifully heartbreaking testimony of love that spans generations and how the voice of truth cannot be silenced. Karen tells us how she first learned of Francesca's tragic story, and how she fought to reconstruct her great-aunt's life against overwhelming odds and determined resistance from her family by piecing together the scant information left behind after a brutal murder.  She also explains how Francesca's story fit into the Detroit of the early 20th century, and what life could have been like for Italian immigrants to the Motor City in those days. We also examine the life of Italian immigrant women to the United States, and why Francesca's story reveals eerie parallels to some of the overlooked aspects of modern Italian American womanhood. Join us as we uncover a story, and a conversation that is sure to remain with you long after you listen!

Women around the world are shamed for actions that are not their fault. They bear the heavy weight of emotional, verbal, mental and physical abuse by an intimate partner or a close male family member. The reason to bear this shame is widely to stand by the honor of the man. During modern times, though women add to the honor of the man and his family by contributing to income, status and expansion, the idea that a man's honor is tied to her body has not changed. Should women be honored for their individual work and contribution? Should the definition of a man's honor be redefined? Listen as we explore the value for life and why the murder of a woman's honor can be harmful for both man and woman.    Our guest is Rana Husseini - Internationally recognized human rights activist, gender trainer and a senior journalist with more than 25 years experience in the Middle East and North Africa. https://www.ranahusseini.com   WARNING - This episode is not recommended for those under 18. ------------------------ Do you have a story to share?
