Today, I have the privilege of speaking with Immaculée Ilibagiza, an extraordinary witness to faith and resilience. She survived the 1994 Rwandan Genocide by hiding in a tiny bathroom for three months with seven other women. When she emerged, she faced the devastating loss of her family and friends, who had all been murdered. Immaculée shares her incredible journey of faith, hope, and forgiveness, even as she came face to face with those responsible for her family's deaths. Her story is both heartbreaking and inspiring, and I'm deeply honored to have this conversation with her. Immaculée Ilibagiza followed her father's instructions and ran to her neighbor's house to hide at the start of the Rwandan genocide. She spent the next three months huddled in a tiny bathroom with seven other women, while extremist members of another tribe tried to find and kill them.  It was in this bathroom that Immaculée gave her heart to God and began to pray in a way she never had before—as she recited the words of the Rosary, peace veiled and healed her from the anger and fear that otherwise consumed her.   When Immaculée finally left the bathroom at the end of the genocide, she learned that her parents, grandparents, siblings, 950 schoolmates and so many more had been murdered. While Immaculée cried out for her loved ones, she sensed God holding her tight and telling her that her journey on Earth was not over. While her family was in heaven, she still had a mission. Since that moment thirty years ago, Immaculée continues to wake up every day and ask the same question that echoed in her heart so long ago: How much can you love with what God has given you? In this Easter podcast, learn that love is everything.

How large is your capacity for forgiveness? Author and motivational speaker Immaculée Ilibagiza grew up in a small village in Rwanda, Africa. With her loving parents and three brothers, Immaculée excelled in school and eventually went on to study electrical and mechanical engineering at the National University of Rwanda. However, her life took a dramatic turn in 1994.  On April 6 of that year, the assassination of the Rwandan President ignited months of massacres targeting Tutsi tribe members across the country. To protect his daughter from rape and murder, Immaculée's father instructed her to seek refuge at a local pastor's house. There, she hid with seven other women in a cramped 3 x 4-foot bathroom for the next 91 days. Amidst the genocide raging outside, Immaculée battled anger and resentment, which threatened to consume her mind, body, and spirit. It was in this desperate state that she turned to prayer, clutching a set of rosary beads her father had given her. Through prayer and faith, she found the strength to resist hate, even using this dark time to teach herself English using only a Bible and a dictionary.  Emerging from her hiding place after 91 days, Immaculée faced a harrowing reality—her entire family, except for one brother studying abroad, had been brutally murdered. She also discovered the massacre of nearly one million extended family members, friends, neighbors, and fellow Rwandans. Despite unimaginable suffering, Immaculée shocked the world by forgiving the man who had killed her mother and brother.  Immaculée Ilibagiza's story offers profound insights and actionable steps to strengthen emotional resilience, release burdens through forgiveness, and contribute to a greater shift in collective consciousness. To share Immaculée's message of healing and forgiveness, Sage and Tony Robbins are honored to present this powerful moment from a private event with their Platinum Partners in Mexico. On April 6 1994, the President of Rwanda was assassinated — sparking the Rwandan Genocide. Months-long massacres against the entire Tutsi people, including the region of a young Immaculée Ilibagiza, raged in the streets. House-by-house, Hutu forces slaughtered Tutsi men, women, and children without mercy. To protect his only daughter from the Rwandan Genocide, Immaculée's father handed her over to a local pastor — where Immaculée and seven other women hid in a 3 foot by 4 foot bathroom for over 90 days. By a miracle, Immaculée survived the Rwandan Genocide, but not without waging a war of hatred against the Hutus in her own heart. In a hair-raising story of life and death, Immaculée turned to prayer—particularly recitation of the Holy Rosary. Devotion to Mary through the Rosary became the source of her faith's secret strength, preparing her for when she would finally come face-to-face with her mother's murderer and face what would become the most important decision of her life. A moment of truth for Culture of Life would arrive — and the fate of what is now one of Rwanda's most stalwart Catholic pro-life voices would hang in the balance.LOVE LIFESITE? LOVE BEING PRO-LIFE? She enjoyed a peaceful childhood with her loving parents and three brothers. Education was very important in her household, so it was no surprise that she did well in school and went on to the National University of Rwanda to study electrical and mechanical engineering. It was while she was home from school on Easter break in 1994 that Immaculée's life was transformed forever. In 1998, Immaculée emigrated from Rwanda to the United States where she continued her work for peace through the United Nations. During that time, she shared her story with co-workers and friends who were so impacted by her testimony they insisted she write it down. Three days after finishing her manuscript, she met best-selling author Dr. Wayne W. Dyer, who, within minutes of meeting her, offered to publish her book. Dyer is quoted as saying, "There is something much more than charisma at work here - Immaculée not only writes and speaks about unconditional love and forgiveness, but she radiates it wherever she goes." Immaculée's first book, Left to Tell; Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust (Hay House) was released in March of 2006. Left to Tellquickly became a New York Times BestSeller. To date, it has been translated into seventeen languages and has sold over two million copies. Immaculée's story has also been made into a documentary entitled The Diary of Immaculée. She has appeared on 60 Minutes, The CBS Early Show, CNN, EWTN, CBS Evening News, The Aljazeera Network as well as in The New York Times, USA Today, Newsday, and many other domestic and international publications. She was recently featured in Michael Collopy's Architects of Peace project, which has honored legendary people like Mother Teresa, Jimmy Carter, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. Immaculée has received honorary doctoral degrees from the University of Notre Dame, Saint John's University, Seton Hall University, Siena College, Walsh University and the Catholic University of America. She has been recognized and honored with numerous humanitarian awards, including The Mahatma Gandhi International Award for Reconciliation and Peace, the American Legacy's Women of Strength & Courage Award and the 2015 National Speaker's Assocation's Master of Influence Award. Left toTell has received a Christopher Award "affirming the highest values of human spirit," and was chosen as Outreach Magazine'sselection for "Best Outreach Testimony/Biography Resource of 2007." Left to Tell has been adopted into the curriculum of dozens of high schools and universities, including Villanova University, which selected it for their "One Book Program," making Left to Tell mandatory reading for its 6,000 students. Immaculée has written six additional books in recent years - Led by Faith: Rising from the Ashes of the Rwandan Genocide, Our Lady of Kibeho, If Only We Had Listened, Visit from Heaven, and The Boy Who Met Jesus, and The Rosary. Today, Immaculée is regarded as one of the world's leading speakers on faith, hope and forgiveness. She has shared this universal message with world leaders, school children, multinational corporations, churches, and at events and conferences around the world, including a recent presentation to over 200,000 people in Sao Paulo, Brazil. How on earth can you live without fear in these troubling times? We have been told to stay at home to ptotect the NHS and save lives. For some this is quite a challenge. Immaculée Ilibagiza was born and raised in a small village in Rwanda, Africa. On April 6 1994, the Rwandan President's plane was shot down over the capital city of Kigali. This assassination of the Hutu president sparked months of massacres of Tutsi tribe members throughout the country. Not even small, rural communities like Immaculée's were spared from the house-by-house slaughtering of men, women and children. To protect his only daughter from rape and murder, Immaculée's father told her to run to a local pastor's house for protection. The pastor quickly sheltered Immaculée and seven other women in a hidden 3 x 4 foot bathroom. For the next 91 days, Immaculée and the other women huddled silently in this small room, while the genocide raged outside the home and throughout the country. This brings our isolation into some perspective. 91 days in isolation in a 3 x 4 foot bathroom with 7 other women while a genocide raged outside! And yet Immaculée was able to teach herself English inside that bathroom to prepare herself to find a job with the U.N. when she got out. This incredible woman will inspire us in this message on Sunday. In this message we will also discover 4 key lessons in order to be able to live unafraid through Coronavirus.

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/cassiordl/message

Solo episode exploring the act of finding meaning in suffering. Kavin highlights a few stories of inspirational people using their struggle as raw material to build something powerful and influences people for good.  He talks about Mother Theresa and the discovery of her journals post mortem that revealed a dark shadow that loomed over her throughout her life, which just adds power and credibility to the great work she did during her life despite the deep pain and loneliness she often felt. Immaculée Ilibagiza, a Rwandan genocide survivor, Victor Frankl, a holocaust survivor and author of Man's Search for Meaning, Gandhi, and MMA fighter Israel Adesanya are more of the examples discussed in the episode of inspiring people that understood that while they can't always control their situation, they can always control their attitude and reaction towards any circumstances. Kavin finishes by discussing a common Stoic Philosophy principle that all things and misfortunes happen to us for a reason and can be used as the materials that shape our character, how we view the world and how we treat other people.  Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to this podcast! As mothers, we are often faced with difficult decisions.  We want to move forward with clarity and confidence. But sometimes it feels as though all we DO is make decisions - who is washing the dishes; which schools should we choose; how can we inspire our kids! It can quickly become overwhelming!  In this episode, you'll learn the story of Immaculée Ilibagiza, a survivor of the Rwandan Holocaust.  You'll hear how she faced difficult decisions in a world turned upside down, finding clarity, and even becoming stronger by applying these 3 Keys of Clear Thinking.   Even though you and I don't find ourselves in circumstances like Immaculée, the need to make decisions we know are right requires us to use the same tools she did. Listen and begin using these keys in your life today! In this episode you'll hear: Immaculée's story 3 Keys of Clear Thinking How living principles brought power into Immaculée's life Listener guide: Use the time stamps below to skip to any part of the podcast. 2:11  Imaculée Ilibagiza's experience in the Rwandan Holocaust 11:20  1st Key of Clear Thinking 18:16  2nd Key of Clear Thinking 20:42  3rd Key of Clear Thinking Quotes from this episode:  “The significant problems we face, cannot be solved at the same level of thinking we were at when we created them.” ~Albert Einstein  “The more in line our lives are with principles, the more clearly we see everything and everyone, including ourselves.” ~Audrey Rindlisbacher “Only when you forgive, can you be objective and really see the other person and the situation clearly.” ~Immaculée Ilibagiza  “Ultimately, clear thinking is faithful thinking.  It's making sure that everything in our lives is in line with one idea.  That we don't get down on our knees and then stand back up and talk the opposite about it.” ~Audrey Rindlisbacher “Justice is the ruling principle of the universe.  Law and order are the governing principles.  Righteousness is what this world was created with.” ~James Allen “When you're in line, when you're optimistic, when you're faithful, when you're hopeful, then you have that power behind you, and as you envision and ask those empowering questions in order to live God's laws, then you will always accomplish what you set out to accomplish because you have God on your side.” ~Audrey Rindlisbacher Summary of the 3 Keys: Utilizing these 3 Keys is a cyclical process. They build on each other and work together to help you gain mastery over yourself, find permanent solutions to your problems, and discover and fulfill God's work for you. Start with any of them, implement the others, continue to return to them and cycle through them. The results in your life will be amazing! 1) Focus your thinking around principles - search for them, and see them as the way to move forward successfully in any endeavor 2) Ask empowering questions - about how you can overcome an obstacle or solve a problem in your life 3) Visualize the result you want with faith - faith is an action which means that as you visualize you act on the principles you find, you act on the answers you receive to your empowering questions while you continue to visualize the end result you seek Books from this episode:
