Participating in the Cannabis industry by going to conferences and expos is a great way to meet the people who make the businesses in this space tick, as well as get information on where the industry might be headed in the future. Attempting to break the mold set by other Cannabis conventions, MJ Unpacked is a distinctive event for nationwide license holders and accredited investors to connect, collaborate, and prepare for expansion. Attendance is exclusive to cannabis retail and brand executives, with the title manager and above and investors actively investing in the space. While most expos focus on services or products surrounding the industry, MJ Unpacked saw a need for a space where Cannabis business executives could meet and mingle with investors who are looking to enter the space or expand their portfolios. A unique venture in the world of Cannabis conferences, MJ Unpacked helps put Cannabis business owners and executives in the same room with accredited investors who want to find companies that are looking for capital to fund a startup, or raise money to scale an existing operation. Attendance at MJ Unpacked events is exclusive to Cannabis retail and brand executives, and investors that have been actively operating in the industry, so there is a stronger concentration on building businesses at these conferences, as opposed to products or services. In our latest podcast episode, MJ Unpacked Founder and CEO George Jage provides insight on what Cannabis investors are looking for in potential business partners, how MJ Unpacked is changing the Cannabis industry, and the ways that expo attendees can make the most out of their networking time at Cannabis events! The next MJ Unpacked happens in Detroit from October 10th-12th. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/dopecfo/message

For the last few months, many in cannabis have spent the majority of their time traveling to conferences. I myself have traveled between New Orleans to Las Vegas over the last few weeks alone. While there is a slew of conferences across the country that many will frequent, there is one that stands a fighting chance to become the go-to place to be. Founded by George and Kim Jage, MjUnpacked has become the hot new name on the scene. The conference is tailored to a unique audience, brands, and retailers. I had the chance to speak with MjUnpacked co-founder George Jage about his time working with MjBiz, the creation of MjUnpacked and what makes it unique and more. Listen now.

Being an entrepreneur is tough! Start that same business in Cannabis and it's at least 10x more difficult. What about starting a business with your spouse as a co-founder and business partner? Maybe try to start an in-person events company a month before a global pandemic? Yeah… George & Kim Jage have done all that. Still love each other! And after two events in Las Vegas and New York, they are onto something disruptive, and are returning to Las Vegas this September! Kim is the energetically connected to the Universe type. Someone who would choose a college major to travel and understand the humans of this world better. She loves people, their energy, and sharing their passions. George is the stolen motorcycles, gas station weed, mushroom walks with undercover cops kind of guy, who unsurprisingly always got himself into trouble. In doing so he built a key skill of how to get out of it and that essential “make it work” drive that helped him start many successful businesses. Following her passion for plant medicine, their meeting at a Tea expo George was running was predicted by Marcus, Kim's naturopathic friend. The connection was immediate! The resulting story is how they came to start a journey as life and business partners, pandemics and all. As the cannabis industry matures and more states come online for recreational sales, it is more essential than ever that leaders from around the country collaborate, network and share solutions for cannabis pain points. Like traditional CPG industries, trade shows are an effective and essential avenue to bring together the leaders of the cannabis industry and discuss the issues of today. In this episode, Kim Jage, co-founder of Jage Media, the creators of the MJ Unpacked trade show, discusses how their unique event pushes cannabis into the future. She explains the cannabis industry's need for collaboration amongst top industry executives, facilitated by events like MJ Unpacked that foster meaningful conversation and solution-oriented innovation. Kim also talks about their upcoming New York City event and the topical issues that will be discussed, including brand-building via licensing, how CPG and retail brands translate coast to coast and what restorative justice in cannabis looks like.

Did you go to MJ Unpacked in Vegas last year? The new event was talk of the town and created a more intimate, focused environment that was refreshing after the madness and party that MJBiz and Hall of Flowers have become. Founder and my guest this week George Jage says that different, more professional vibe was very much intentional. He is the former president of MJBiz and Dope magazine and wanted to focus on productivity for MJ Unpacked. The conference will bring together brands, retailers, and investors, as well as an unprecedented level of diversity for a business conference. George and I also discuss what makes a good brand, illicit market, dtc, beverages, and why virtual events suck so much. Join George, myself, and many more May 18th-20th in NYC. https://mjunpacked.com/
