In this episode of Shoptalk, David Carothers shared insights from his interaction with Josh Braun on LinkedIn where they discussed the importance of addressing the underlying causes of a prospect's lack of interest, rather than just treating the symptoms. They emphasized the need for active listening and neutral questions to build trust and understand the prospect's needs. David shared a scenario where he helped another company reduce their workers' comp costs by addressing the root causes of high premiums, highlighting the negative impact of fraudulent claims on a company's finances and culture. He further emphasized the importance of identifying and addressing the root causes of high workers' compensation premiums, rather than just focusing on symptoms. Key points: · Sales Strategies and Effective Messaging David Carothers and Josh Braun share similar views on creating interesting messaging to engage prospects, rather than merely overcoming objections. They emphasize the importance of asking better questions to make people feel seen, heard, and understood. · Problem-Solving Over Selling Both Carothers and Braun advocate for solving problems instead of just selling products. Carothers illustrates this with a scenario where addressing the root causes of high workers' comp premiums helped a company save money, reduce turnover, and gain market share. · Workers' Comp Fraud and Solutions David Carothers highlights the financial and cultural impact of workers' comp fraud on companies. He shares a real-world example where identifying issues with policies, processes, and employee benefits led to reduced fraudulent claims and improved company efficiency. · Importance of Prospecting David Carothers stresses the importance of continuous prospecting, especially in a bad market, advising against relying solely on inbound leads and reshapes. He underscores the need for discipline and active market engagement to maintain a strong pipeline. The Razorbacks added Utah transfer Ja'Quinden Jackson (4.9 ypc) to complement returnee Rashod Dubinion. Arkansas has a wide receiver room full of size, including returnees Andrew Armstrong, Isaac TeSlaa (all 6-foot-4), the 6-foot-7 Tyrone Borden, Jaedon Wilson (6-foot-3) and a healthy tight end Luke Hasz (6-foot-3), who was tremendously productive in five games last season before an injury. Speaking of size, the Razorbacks have that along the offensive line in 300-pounders Fernando Carmona (324 pounds; a San Jose State transfer), returning guards Patrick Kutas and Josh Braun (both 6-foot-5 and 312 and 349 pounds, respectively), Tennessee transfer Addison Nichols (6-foot-5, 306) and Michigan State transfer Keyshawn Blackstock (6-foot-5, 325 pounds). Arkansas also has size and experience along the defensive line, with all-star candidate Landon Jackson, along with returning tackles Eric Gregory and Cam Ball, and a bunch of experience on the whole, especially with the addition of Albany transfer Anton Juncaj at one end. Coach Sam Pittman hit the portal hard at linebacker, adding Georgia's Xavian Corey, Marshall's Steven Dix and Jacksonville State's Larry Worth. The Razorbacks have a ton of experience in the defensive backfield, including transfer defensive backs Marquise Robinson (South Alabama), Doneiko Slaughter (Tennessee), Anthony Switzer (Utah State) plus a pair of returning starters at safety in Jayden Johnson and Hudson Clark. Arkansas also has special teams experience in Hawaii transfer Matthew Shipley (kicker) and punter Devin Bale (Northern Colorado). I was introduced to Josh by his lovely wife Jenna many years ago after a chance encounter at a local juice spot. My wife Chelsea and I were invited to their home and spent some time getting to know each other over delicious food and conversation. Josh by trade is a business man who has worn many hats from teacher, tech genius, salesperson and the list goes on ad infinitum. Josh and I randomly run into each other and caught up over the years regarding ironman training, random ideas for business and FROPRO related questions and recently, Chelsea showed me his TIK TOK account where he discusses business, tips, connecting and coaching on a regular basis. "Why don't you have him on the show?" and that's how it happened.Josh is a great coach mentor and has had years of experience in sales. He has amazing examples, real life stories in which communicating with people and finding out what they want and where they are coming from is the most important. In a rare flip of the script he started asking me questions and we did a role-play in talking with someone struggling. It got me out of my comfort zone and we began discussing what's the most important for everyone to engage in and he believes mindfulness can solve anything and point people in the right direction if they feel off course. You can follow his journey on instagram @BRAUN or his most followed on TIK TOK - @JOSHUA_BRAUN or LINKEDIN - JOSH BRAUN

In this episode of The Power Producers Podcast, David Carothers discusses the importance of detaching from outcomes, a powerful concept brought up by Josh Braun at Producers in Paradise. David also shares the structure of Producers in Paradise and a few of the lessons learned from the event. Episode Highlights: David discusses the structure and concept of the Producers In Paradise conference. (2:28) David shares how the sunset cruise in Key West provided an informal setting for sponsors and attendees to get to know each other. (3:21) David mentions that Producers in Paradise is an annual event where attendees share their skills and needs, enabling others to identify potential partners. (4:30) Josh discusses the importance of being detached from the outcome during his presentation at Producers in Paradise. (8:00) David explains that agents and producers can try to control as much as possible in the sales world but they cannot control the environment. (17:32) David shares that the most significant lesson he learned at Producers in Paradise was the need to quickly implement impactful nuggets of wisdom, as no one else is responsible for our mindset except ourselves. (21:18) Tweetable Quotes: “The key west event itself is special in that it is not a normal conference. And I think it's important for everybody listening to understand the architecture of that before we get into the lessons learned or the lessons that should be learned.” - David Carothers “We go out into the sales world and we can prepare as much as we want, we can take all the training we want, we can have the best software, the best tools, just like in fishing, we can have the best tackle, the best electronics, the best boat. But what we can't control is the environment.” - David Carothers “The biggest lesson that I've learned from Producers in Paradise is that we simply need to implement those things that are nuggets and impactful as quickly as we can hear them. Because no one else is responsible for our mindset other than ourselves.” - David Carothers Resources Mentioned: Josh Braun LinkedIn David Carothers Kyle Houck Florida Risk Partners The Extra 2 Minutes

In this episode of The Power Producers Podcast, David Carothers and co-host Kyle Houck interview Josh Braun, a Sales Guru, and host of the Inside Selling Podcast. Josh discusses his approach to sales and how mindfulness training can help you lower the zone of resistance people often have with salespeople. Episode Highlights: Josh shares that he began his sales career as a kindergarten teacher, selling a love for reading and writing. (3:30) Josh explains that understanding the nature of things is crucial to achieving harmony with them. (10:37) Josh mentions that without mindfulness training, people can go their whole life without even realizing they are a slave or puppets to their thoughts, which they don't control. (13:25) Josh believes that salespeople should not aim to fill others with knowledge, but instead align with their existing motivations. (17:15) Josh explains that switching statements into very specific questions aimed at getting people to think a little differently about their current solution is a better approach than going into a full lecture. (18:57) David mentions that in the insurance industry, he prefers to use the term "cost" instead of "premium" as it is a broader term. (23:54) Josh explains that it is important to remember that if one goes against one's nature too much, it can be a problem. (30:06) Josh suggests that sales training should concentrate on identifying individuals who are comfortable making phone calls, rather than forcing everyone to do so. (34:44) Kyle mentions that salespeople frequently forget to slow down and ask questions, resulting in the common error of failing to complete a sale. (44:03) David explains that the word "no" provides a sense of control to the human brain, which is why experience mod analysis is used to recognize individuals who are overpaying. (50:26) Josh explains that labeling is a useful method of gathering more information about a running gait test, as it defers the pitch until the end, rather than introducing it at the beginning. (58:20) Tweetable Quotes: “In my world, there's no such thing as objections. Because there's resistance and resistance is part of the nature of sales. But there are no objections.” - Josh Braun “Understand the harmony of the thing and to be in harmony with it.” - Josh Braun “I've never been a big fan of using the word price. I use cost because the cost is a much broader term.” - David Carothers Resources Mentioned: Josh Braun LinkedIn Josh Braun Website Inside Selling Podcast David Carothers Kyle Houck Florida Risk Partners The Extra 2 Minutes

My guest today is Josh Braun. Josh is one of the leading voices on LinkedIn on all things Sales, and I love having conversations with Sales trainers because I think sales skills are life skills. I have been following Josh for quite some time now, and his advice is always fluffless and on point. I had a feeling that Josh would be a pretty great podcast guest, but when I saw Josh's past career, especially in education (Josh is a qualified Elementary school teacher, or as we call it here in Europe, Primary school) I KNEW he'd make a great guest. In this conversation PACKED with so many powerful stories, Josh shares:- How he chose Teaching as a Career, got hired at this first teaching job and how he infused tech into the classroom in the 1990's- How Josh pivoted from Teaching to Sales and the transferable skills that helped him to successfully make that shift- Why Josh started his own sales training firm and how he got hired by his very first paid client- Favourite advice that can work in parallel to help someone whether in Sales or a career transition- His unique perepective on rejectionWe even did a demo where I pretended to be an annoyed prospect and Josh was cold calling me!This is such a good conversation, you don't want to miss it!Follow Josh on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/josh-braun/Josh's website: https://joshbraun.com/-----------------------------------------------------Liked this episode? Many of the pop culture devoted among us sadly missed the chance to experience the New York City populated by pop artist and pop culture genius Andy Warhol, filled with brilliant work (solo and collaborations), and exploring the city surrounded by the world's most famous and infamous and everyone in between. A read of Warhol's classic posthumously-published book The Andy Warhol Diaries has been an oft-revisited taste of the Warholian experience, and now fans of the artist and his world have the opportunity to get to know him in an even deeper way via Netflix's wonderful, engrossing six-part docuseries. This week, we get our Warhol obsession on with Josh Braun, executive producer on the documentary (with Ryan Murphy and writer Andrew Rossi), which takes us through the sweet and also heartbreaking romances and friendships that formed Warhol's personal and professional lives, and moments of pure joy like Andy's collaborations with Jean-Michel Basquiat and the night another genius – Steve Jobs – taught him how to draw on a computer at Sean Lennon's ninth birthday party. Lifelong New Yorker Braun, a filmmaker and musician among his many creative pursuits, also shares with us the times his path crossed with Warhol's … and how one of them involved his friend – and father's tenant – Madonna. On this episode of the Salesman Podcast, Josh Braun explains his simple step-by-step framework for successful cold calling and rejection minimization. Josh Braun helps salespeople book more meetings and reduce the chance of getting ghosted without you having to sell your soul. Coming soon. Transcript: Coming soon.
In this episode of Enterprise Sales Development podcast, we speak with Josh Braun, an expert in helping sales leaders, CEO's, and founders create systems to generate a steady flow of meetings each month with qualified buyers. He is the founder of his own sales consulting firm, Josh Braun Sales Training, a former Head of Business Development at Basecamp and the Co-Founder & CEO of Sales DNA. Josh shares his wisdom on sales and discusses the zone of resistance and how to lower it. Using mock call role playing, he also talks about how to build familiarity quickly and effectively in the first 10 seconds of a cold call. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN High lessons Josh has learned over the years since he's gone on the consulting front The zone of resistance and how to lower it Why you should start with intent and how to use your language, intent and tonality to get to the truth behind the objections Why labeling and making people feel heard and understood is key What an SDR can do in the first 10 seconds to build familiarity quickly and effectively in a cold call QUOTES “Your thoughts affect what you say. So when your intent is ‘I got to talk everybody into everything,' you end up sounding in ways that feel manipulative, salesy and off-putting, and often people go into the zone of resistance.” -Josh Braun [04:27] “About 10 years ago, I came to this realization that in order to change that, I have to start with my intent, meaning what's my goal? And so when I cold call people, my goal is this, ‘I wonder if this person has a problem.' Not ‘they definitely have a problem, I have to pitch them.' So my cold call approach is completely different.” -Josh Braun [08:33] “That's the secret to labeling is making people feel heard and understood. It's hard to glean that information a lot of times from marketing materials because there's a spin to it.” - Josh Braun “The superpower is you need to shine a light on a problem that people don't know about because every one of your prospects is running in their own sneakers today.
