MLB – Major League Baseball Last Night Seattle Mariners 5, Detroit Tigers 4 Minnesota Twins 10, Chicago White Sox 1 Chicago Cubs 15, Cincinnati Reds 2 End MLB Regular Season Mariners 5, Tigers 4 – Mariners roll into playoffs after 5-4 win over Tigers Julio Rodríguez put a final exclamation point on his rookie of the year candidacy with his 28th home run of the season, Ty France hit a game-ending RBI single in the ninth inning, and the Seattle Mariners capped the regular season with a 5-4 win over the Detroit Tigers. Rodríguez set a franchise record with his sixth lead off homer of the season and finished off his rookie campaign hitting .284 with 25 doubles, 75 RBIs and 25 stolen bases. Seattle finished with at least 90 wins in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2000-03 when the Mariners won 91, 116, 93 and 93 games during that span. Detroit finished the season 66-96. Twins 10, White Sox 1 – Arraez wins AL batting title, Twins beat White Sox 10-1 Luis Arraez won the AL batting title, hitting a third-inning double after walking twice to finish the season at .316, and the Minnesota Twins rolled to a 10-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox. Arraez was all but assured of topping the Yankees’ Aaron Judge for the batting crown when the day began. He removed any doubt by walking in his first two plate appearances and then hitting a drive that barely cleared the glove of right fielder Gavin Sheets before he was lifted for a pinch-runner. Gary Sanchez and Jermaine Palacios homered during a six-run first inning for Minnesota, which snapped a four-game skid. The Twins finished at 78-84. The White Sox finished at 81-81. Cubs 15, Reds 2 – Reds lose 100 for 1st time since ’82, Bote 5 RBIs lead Cubs The Cincinnati Reds lost 100 games for the first time in four decades, falling to the Cubs 15-2 in their season finale as David Bote drove in a season-high five runs. Cincinnati finished 62-100, one shy of the franchise record for losses set by the 1982 team that went 61-101. The Reds became the record-tying fourth team to lose 100 games this season, tying for last in the NL Central with Pittsburgh after just missing post-season play with an 83-79 record last season. Similarly, the rebuilding Cubs finished 74-88 and third in the NL Central, up from 71-91 and fourth last season. The Royals had exercised their option on Matheny’s contract for 2023 during spring training, when the club hoped it was turning the corner from also-ran to contender again. But plagued by poor pitching, struggles from young position players and failed experiments with veterans, the Royals were largely out of playoff contention by the middle of summer. Matheny is the fifth big league manager to be fired this year. MLB – Fan who caught Aaron Judge’s 62nd HR offered $2M for ball The owner of a sports memorabilia auction house says he has offered $2 million to the fan who caught Aaron Judge’s American League-record 62nd home run. JP Cohen, president of Memory Lane Inc. in Tustin, California, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he has texted and emailed Cory Youmans, who caught Judge’s milestone shot Tuesday night at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. Cohen says Youmans has not yet replied. Youmans grabbed the historic souvenir on the fly as it sailed into the front row of section 31 in left field. NFL – National Football League – Week 5 Tonight Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos, 8:15 p.m. NFL – Protester subdued by Rams’ Wagner files police report A protester who ran onto the field during the San Francisco 49ers’ home game against the Rams has filed a police report after being subdued by Los Angeles linebacker Bobby Wagner. Wagner reacted with bemusement when asked about the protester’s complaint. Santa Clara Police Department Lt. Cuong Phan confirmed to The Associated Press that the department has an active investigation of the incident, but could provide few other details. Wagner flattened the protester who ran on the field waving a device emitting pink smoke. NFL – Bears put Whitehair on IR, open window for Harry to return The Chicago Bears have placed left guard Cody Whitehair on injured reserve because of a right knee injury. The 30-year-old Whitehair was injured in Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants. He has been a fixture on the Bears’ line at center and guard since they drafted him in the second round in 2016, starting 99 games. Coach Matt Eberflus says he expects Whitehair to play again this season. Also Wednesday, the Bears designated receiver N’Keal Harry to return from IR. That begins a three-week evaluation window for the fourth-year player. Eberflus says it’s possible Harry could make his Bears debut as early as Sunday. NFL – Jerry Vainisi, GM of Bears’ 1985 championship team, dies The Chicago Bears say Jerry Vainisi, their general manager when they won their lone Super Bowl championship, has died. He was 80. The team said he died Tuesday in suburban Oak Park, Ill. A Chicago native who attended Georgetown University and Chicago–Kent College of Law, Vainisi joined the Bears in 1972 as controller and worked as the team’s treasurer and lawyer. He became the team’s general manager in 1983 after Jim Finks resigned. Vainisi remained in that role for four years. He oversaw contract negotiations and worked with coach Mike Ditka and player personnel director Bill Tobin to run the team. The Bears went 47-17 during during Vainisi’s tenure and fielded arguably the greatest team the league has seen in 1985. The Bears went 15-1 and won the Super Bowl over the New England Patriots 46-10. He makes an expansion pitch to Adam Silver LeBron James came to Las Vegas for a preseason game. And a pitch. James, who has spoken in the past about how he wants to eventually own an NBA franchise — with Las Vegas on his mind — sent a crystal-clear message to Commissioner Adam Silver on Wednesday night, reminding him of his future plans to bring a team to the desert. Though Silver has said he expects expansion at some point, it is believed that wouldn’t happen until the next Collective Bargaining Agreement and television deals are complete. NCAAFB – Pyne fueling resurgent Irish offense as No. 16 BYU looms Quarterback Drew Pyne has given Notre Dame’s offense exactly what it needed. Hope amid change. He’s 2-0 since replacing the injured Tyler Buchner, has the Fighting Irish back at .500, is leading a major midseason turnaround and seems to be winning over coach Marcus Freeman. On Saturday, he’ll face his biggest test yet against No. 16 BYU in Las Vegas. Pyne seems to be growing more comfortable by the week since taking over from his friend, the injured Tyler Buchner. And now, he’s ready to show everyone what he and the Irish offense can do. Locked On Sun Devils - Daily Podcast On Arizona State Sun Devils Football & Basketball
Many Arizona State Sun Devils football fans have fond memories of former wide receiver N'Keal Harry. Harry was a two-time 1,000-yard receiver and finished his three-year career with the Arizona State Sun Devils as the university's third all-time leading receiver. Harry was also a two-time First-Team All-PAC-12 player and truly one of the finest athletes that the Arizona State University Sun Devils football team has had the pleasure of hosting. His impressive college resume and on-field skills led him to be selected in the first round, 32nd overall, in the 2019 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Harry, unfortunately, has yet to catch on in the pros and has thus far been a major disappointment. The Patriots decided to cut ties with the former Sun Devil and traded him to the Chicago Bears. Will a change of scenery be what Harry needs to get back on track? More importantly, what went wrong with Harry in the pros? We're here to discuss that on this edition of the Locked On Sun Devils podcast.Built Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Chad discusses Nick Chubb, the Browns new defense, and our top two picks from the NFL Draft in Greg Newsome and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. With co-host Josh Seichter. In this episode, we spend a majority of the episode ranking the States of New England, and both lists are completely different. Plus, we also debate (again) which State is superior, Massachusetts or Connecticut. We then get into the sports topics, starting with N'Keal Harry requesting a trade from the Patriots. Then we talk about the Stephon Gilmore contract situation and why the Patriots should resign him. Finally, we talk about the Red Sox now that they are at the All-Star break and we talk about who has performed above expectations so far this season. And as always, Stuff on the Internet to wrap it up. https://guineys-sports-pod.captivate.fm/ (WEBSITE): https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJV4cQE-Cf-uefmhKFpYGVA (YOUTUBE:) https://www.instagram.com/guineys_sportspod/ (INSTAGRAM:) https://twitter.com/guineysportspod (TWITTER:)
What's up, Browns fans! Thanks for hanging in there with us as we took an unexpected two-week hiatus. Between sickness and vacations, The Dawgs just had to hit pause on the podcast. But we're all healthy, home, and back in the studio to discuss a lot of Browns news and topics from the last two weeks. Over the hiatus, listeners and viewers sent questions and voicemails for us to discuss. Also, we discuss Joe Woods and how much grace we'll be giving him with this new, revamped defensive unit he'll be coordinating. Boy, does it feel good to be back! This one might be the raunchiest and funniest episode we've ever done. We start off the Giants preview with a riveting story about Mickey Mantle from his Yankees playing days (time). Then we give an update on N'Keal Harry and his trade request because we've already done the Patriots show. Then we finally start talking about the New York Giants who will rely on good play from questionable first round pick Daniel Jones heading into year 3 (time). Then we move on into our offseason grades (21:05), spotlight some players we are excited about or looking for more from this season (27:00) and finally give our record predictions (42:00). We wrap up the show with another edition of Michael Duane's obscure player segment (time). Thank you for listening! If you like the show please rate us, subscribe and share with your friends. Also, why Taysom Hill isn't really on a four-year $140M contract. Here's why the Saints should consider a trade for New England Patriots WR N'Keal Harry. After drafting D'Wayne Eskridge in April, the Seahawks already have a loaded receiving corps headlined by DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett and don't necessarily need help at the position. But general manager John Schneider has never turned his back on failed first-round talents from other teams in the past, which could make them a potential suitor for Patriots receiver N'Keal Harry. Hosts Corbin Smith and Rob Rang share their thoughts on the possibility of Seattle targeting Harry if he becomes available, discuss listener responses on potential breakout players for the Seahawks in 2021 for Twitter Tuesday, and continue their 90-player countdown with Chris Carson and Jordyn Brooks. What's up, Browns fans! IT'S NFL DRAFT WEEK! In years past, we'd be drooling over which quarterback the Browns would be selecting this season, but those days are behind us. Now we get to indulge in a whole different kind of excitement, and that's the excitement of celebrating new additions to a team that's already built to content for a...wait for it...because we've waited for decades...a Super Bowl! On today's show, special guest Derek Frisby from https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtBtlOQ5UT9qEH0QuJRBQbw (DF Sports) on YouTube joins the conversation to discuss the draft prospects the Browns have actually met with. The list of players comes courtesy of Barry Shuck from Dawgs By Nature (www.dawgsbynature.com), so check out his new article coming this week. Then, we discuss the Browns picking up the fifth-year option on both Baker Mayfield and Denzel Ward and how COVID and the salary cap situation could play a role in contract extensions. And then the conversation gets really interesting when Josh proposes the Browns trade a fourth-round pick for Patriots WR N'Keal Harry. We realize very quickly that Josh is the only one in favor of this move, and the other guys don't hold back. Finally, we wrap up draft season with our third and final mock draft before we find out who will actually be the new members of the Cleveland Browns. B_Don and his Donkey return to chat dynasty rankings once again. This time the fellas dig into Donkey Teeth's Top 25 Dynasty Rankings and the back end of his Top 100 Dynasty Rankings. B_Don goes easy on his hairy friend this week, giving a few suggestions to be considered at the tail end including Sterling Shepard, Tevin Coleman and Golden Tate. The rankings of N'Keal Harry, Ronald Jones, Devin Singletary and Sam Darnold are also put under a microscope. And it turns out B_Don is the only person on the planet who doesn't think Donkey Teeth is 100% insane for ranking Kerryon Johnson #18 overall. Tune in now for all the the dynasty ranking banter and more!
Donkey Teeth finally returns from overseas just in time for B_Don to trash his Top 75 Dynasty Rankings for 2020 Fantasy Football. But first, many congratulations to all the winners of the Razzball Fantasy Football Podcast Leagues, the Razzball Commenter Leagues and the first ever RazzBowl winner, Mike Beers! Once the guys dig into the early 2020 dynasty rankings, B_Don questions the low rankings of Terry McLaurin, Kareem Hunt, Chris Carson and Joe Mixon, as well as the high rankings of Sony Michel, Baker Mayfield and T.J. Hockenson. Donkey is also forced to justify the omissions of Devin Singletary, Derrius Guice, N'Keal Harry, Micheal Gallup and Devante Parker. Tune in for a dynasty debate on all these players, dynasty philosophy and much more!
Sure, Christian McCaffrey and Nick Chubb had big days, as expected, but a lot of backup running backs had memorable outings in Week 12. Liz Loza and Matt Harmon discuss the captivating performances from Rashaad Penny, Latavius Murray, Qadree Ollison, Benny Snell and more in the latest fantasy football podcast. (01:25)Liz and Matt hit mostly every game from Week 12’s Sunday slate, including fantasy owners finally getting a solid look at first round Patriots WR N’Keal Harry. Should fantasy owners invest in the rookie or are there better options in the depleted New England receiver corps? (13:25)Elsewhere in the NFL, we witnessed another disappointing outing by Carson Wentz. So, for the umpteenth time, what’s wrong with Wentz? (21:28)The Browns went off in the Week 12, as everybody with fantasy value — Baker Mayfield, Odell Beckham Jr., Jarvis Landry, Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt — ate, while on the other side, DeVante Parker turned 11 targets into six catches for 91 yards (for what it’s worth). (31:45)Oakland got caught in a classic west-to-east trap game in East Rutherford. Matt & Liz take a look at Sam Darnold’s performance and the Jets’ light schedule to round out the season (36:30)Don’t get your ponytail in a bunch, but Derrick Henry had himself a day against the Jaguars and Leonard Fournette got into the end-zone twice as well. Could Ryan Tannehill be the answer in Tennessee and man, it definitely seems like Foles is not in Jacksonville. (41:58)John Brown is becoming (or rather, has become) one of the safest wide receivers to roster in fantasy (48:12), Mason Rudolph got benched one week after you-know-what, only to watch the Duck, Devlin Hodges, come in and help the Steelers get the W (51:30).Liz and Matt discuss all that and more fantasy tidbits from Week 12’s games. Please remember to rate, review and subscribe on your podcast provider of choice and send us your questions for future episodes on Twitter @YahooFantasy.Follow Liz @LizLoza_FFFollow Matt @MattHarmon_BYBCheck out the rest of the Yahoo Sports Podcast family at https://apple.co/2Abi8jk or at yahoosports.com/podcasts See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
