There's a reason why people say no one likes change. But for Kimberley Gardiner, Chief Marketing Officer at Tractor Supply Co, change is what she's learned to thrive on and how she makes the greatest impact. Kimberley knows what it's like to be the only woman in a room full of executive leaders, and she's had to learn how to be authentic and boldly share her ideas, even if they were unpopular at the time. From being able to do this, she's found more happiness and satisfaction from work than she could have imagined. Kimberley has a broad background in the automotive industry, previously having worked as SVP & Chief Marketing Officer for Volkswagen and Mitsubishi - and for Kia Motors America in marketing. She's skilled at innovation and is a creative thinker. Her role as a change agent was a perfect fit for Volkswagen's electric vehicles and the push for their adoption by the mainstream. In this podcast, Kimberley explains why leaders should be bold about asking for advice and tells us what she does every day that leads to her success. She also shares with us how to overcome failures, learn to say no, and what success habits helped her achieve her goals. Steve Kosowski, the manager of long-range strategy and planning at for Kia Motors America told InsideEVs: "volume is globally constrained because Kia Motors America can’t get the desired allocation from the parent company. “The truth is that demand in other markets around the world is so strong,” he said. Kosowski explained that regulatory pressures, especially in Europe, dictate that countries such as Norway are a higher priority than the United States. “We have this conversation all the time with our leadership about how we need more cars.” And some insight on battery supplier, which I had read as speculation before, but this seems firm confirmation: The all-electric Niro, Kona, and Soul share the same electric powertrain, with some slight modifications in the Niro’s transmission to handle the extra mass. SK Innovation provides the cells for Kia’s battery pack while LG Chem is Hyundai’s supplier." https://insideevs.com/details-kia-niro-ev-launch/ EV TARIFF COSTS ARE ‘UNCLEAR TO CUSTOMERS’ "Research from Citizens Advice has found that a lack of clear information is making it difficult for electric vehicle (EV) drivers to work out the best electricity tariff to choose to charge their vehicles." reports Utility Week: "It found ten out of the 72 active domestic energy suppliers offer an EV tariff, with the number of such tariffs increasing from two in August 2017 to ten in September last year. Half of the tariffs analysed in the report offer a discount on a home charger or public charge points, however the value of this discount can vary. Interestingly the research highlights that EV-specific tariffs do not necessarily offer the best rates for EV users." In response to the report Fiona Howarth, chief executive of Octopus Electric Vehicles which provides the Octopus Energy Go tariff, said: “This report demonstrates that time of use tariffs are great for EV drivers, and we need to see more of this sort of innovation. https://utilityweek.co.uk/ev-tariff-costs-unclear-customers/ 2019 NISSAN LEAF PLUS GETS LONGER RANGE IN CHEAPEST TRIM "New California regulatory compliance documents hint that lower trim levels of the upcoming 2019 Nissan Leaf Plus will be the ones with the longest range." says Green Car Reports: "To get the maximum range of 226 miles that Nissan estimates, buyers will likely have to stick to the base S trim level, according to documents, based on California emissions tests and obtained by Automotive News. Higher-trim SL and SV models are likely to have shorter range estimates, which Nissan estimates at 215 miles. In the tests, the base 62-kwh Leaf Plus went 364 miles on the EPA's notoriously gentle Urban Dynamometer Driving Schedule. On the California UDDS test, the Leaf SV Plus and SL Plus returned 330 miles. It's unclear why there's such a discrepancy between the Leaf S Plus and higher trims. Nissan specs show the SV and the SL weigh about 75 pounds more than the base S." https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1121208_2019-nissan-leaf-plus-gets-longer-range-in-cheapest-trim RENAULT ZOE S EDITION NOW AVAILABLE IN THE UK Renault has introduced a new version at the top of the Renault ZOE range. (Bloomberg) -- Taking Stock with Kathleen Hays and Pimm Fox. GUEST: Michael Sprague, COO and EVP of Kia Motors America, on May auto sales, new ad campaign, and outlook for the rest of the year.
Casey Flaherty, corporate counsel at Kia Motors America, has gotten a lot of attention recently with a basic technology competency audit he administers to outside law firms and the failing grades lawyers at those firms have received. There has always been an ongoing conversation of what basic technology skills lawyers need. The ABA's Ethics 2020 recommendation that a basic knowledge of common software techniques be a part of the definition of “competence,” has also shined the spotlight on this issue. In this episode of The Kennedy-Mighell Report, Dennis Kennedy and Tom Mighell discuss Flaherty's technology audit approach, the responses it has prompted, and how this may or may not change the ways lawyers deal with technology skills. The second half of the episode will cover Apple's much-rumored “iWatch” and the future of watch technology.
In the June edition of Law Technology Now, host Monica Bay, an attorney and Editor-in-Chief of ALM's Law Technology News invites her American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) co-presenters, Steven Lastres and D. Casey Flaherty to chat about the recent and upcoming changes in technology affecting law librarians and legal research. Bay, Lastres, and Flaherty will be presenting at AALL’s annual conference this month in Seattle. Learn how librarians are leading the charge for faster, better, and cheaper legal services! • Lastres, an attorney, is director of library and knowledge management for Debevoise and Plimpton. He is responsible for the firm’s information and knowledge management initiatives. He is the co-founder of the OnFirmerGround blog — a collaborative effort of international law library associations seeking to promote the value that law firm librarians bring to the business and practice of law. • Flaherty is corporate counsel of Kia Motors America. He manages all legal matters from transactional to litigation. Before moving in-house he worked at BigLaw where he focused his practice in commercial litigation and e-discovery. Flaherty is known for his meticulous auditing system made specifically for law firms, on which he regularly speaks and writes about. Tune in for a sneak preview of their upcoming presentation and the future of legal research.
On Sunday all eyes--well, a lot of eyes--will be on the action going down in New Orleans, but while the 49ers and Ravens are at each others' throats, another competition will be playing out. That's because all of those aforementioned eyes will be there for the taking and there is nothing else that matches the advertising spectacle that is the Super Bowl. Thus, automakers from around the world will be embroiled in a battle of corporate egos. As luck would have it, many of these ads have already been, *ahem*, "leaked" so the AAH panel will be doing a roundup of what's on the docket, so far. Joining us to offer an inside perspective on this high-stakes competition is Michael Sprague, the Executive Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Kia Motors America. Kia has two ads in the queue for the big game, and we'll get to preview at least one of them. Joining John McElroy in studio to talk about all things Super Bowl, plus the news of the week, is Peter De Lorenzo, the Autoextremist, and David Kiley from AOL Autos.
