True to it, we managed to hit the deadlines. That's why people say that goals without deadlines are just dreams. Let's master the art of giving life to our plans by assigning them deadlines. Do goals come true? I believe deep inside me that goals do come true. I ticked a bunch of goals off my goals list. Not because I gave up on them, but because I achieved them. Dr. Doug Bennett wrote a fantastic book called Goals Do Come True. This book has been such an inspiration to me, and I highly recommend it. It is such an easy read that I'm sure you can benefit from it too.I've been looking back at all my goals, and now they are achieved. I must say I'm amazed and more motivated to set even more. Here are some of the goals that I have achieved so far:Ran a marathonWe moved to Cornwall. This was essential for our family because we wanted the children to go to Truro schools, which are 15 minutes away from where we live. Also, we wanted to have a chance to go to the sea at least four times a week. Last week I managed to be at the beach four times a week. Hooray! I achieved!Laughing on stage with at least 2000 people. This is one goal that excites me the most. I did it! Today I am here to motivate you to keep setting goals because goals come true. Today take a few minutes off your schedule and set your goals. Don't forget to write them down because the more you write them down, the more they become a reality, and the more you want to work towards them. Do you need help setting the goals? Have you ever been through so much pain that you have no idea what to do? When Sherry Laughter yoga lost her mum to cancer, the pain was too much and numbing. She needed something that would help her deal with the pain. Sherry discovered laughter yoga which became instrumental to her healing. She has been laughing since 2019. When Sherry discovered how powerful laughter is, she started going to the park, gathering people, and sharing laughter yoga sessions with them. The Covid pandemic made us realize that laughter yoga online is as good as in person. People adopted online laughing yoga when the pandemic hit, and we got locked down. We basically started doing it four times a day to get ourselves through what was happening at the moment in the world. It soon made me realize that we don't need to be in-person to laugh with each other.After being a laughter yogi for years, I can tell there is a slight difference at the end. The in-person laughter tends to have a more powerful ending. There's the bit where you do the free flow and laughter and close your eyes. However, I feel that that is still achievable online if it's set up in the right way. One of the things we need to know about online laughter is that you have to get your concentration there to reap the maximum benefits. If you are on an online session, make sure you are not doing other things like checking your emails or social media. They will distract you.Are your camera shy? You don't have to join the session with your camera. You only need to have your microphone on and laugh along with other people. Thanks to Clubhouse, we now have an audible app where we all can show up not caring about getting dressed.Would you like to join an online laughter club? My advice is to go to Facebook and search for laughter yoga groups on Facebook, and there's even a zoom laughter yoga group as well, where people post all their clubs. Join the group you will find worthwhile. Soon I will have a laughter yoga club when we move to Cornwall. The world needs more laughter, and I am making it my goal to spread as much laughter as possible. Soon, we are moving to different parts of the UK, to a lovely county called Cornwall, so we're leaving Bristol, the city. However, I still want to do my laughter yoga training in Bristol, which will be running twice a year.I have also been thinking of doing laughter yoga training across the UK. Very soon I will be in a town near you. We need more laughter yoga leaders to help us spread laughter. Laughter yoga is so accessible to everybody, and it's such a simple but effective well-being tool. I think traveling the UK and doing more training across the UK will help open up the UK when it comes to laughter yoga and start getting more and more pockets of laughter yoga clubs or laughter clubs. I know we have buddies for different things. Do you have somebody you can pick up the phone to and laugh with? According to Alex Sternick, life is illogical, and we need to laugh about it because we cannot control it. Alex Sternick is our guest today. Alex has a BSc.in Clinical Nutrition. He is an expert and internationally recognized practitioner of ART OF NONSENSE and Laughter Therapy. Alex is the man behind laughter yoga clubs in Israel. Alex began his laughter journey in India in 2003, where he worked with terminally ill patients. Then he practiced in Ethiopia as a laughter therapist in Mother's Mission and a nutritionist with SaveTheChildren USA.These experiences inspired him to bring laughter yoga to Israel. Is there a difference between laughter yoga and laughing yoga? Honestly, this is where we say the difference is the same. The two words mean the same thing. If you are listening to today's episode, you must be curious to know what laughter yoga is.Laughter yoga is all about laughing for no reason at all. We don't need jokes. We don't need humour when we laugh. When we do laughter yoga or laughter yoga, the premise is that the body doesn't know the difference between fake and real laughter. We do these different laughing exercises and various breathing exercises to trick the brain into thinking that we are genuinely laughing. Before you know it, you are genuinely laughing, especially when you're in our group of people. It's highly contagious. Last week I was on stage with about 250 people. When we started, some people didn't want to laugh. By the end of the session, the whole auditorium was laughing, and the energy had been lifted. With laughter yoga, we incorporate yogic breathing. We don't necessarily use yoga poses. A study shows that, when we breathe, normally, 20% of oxygen sits in the bottom of our lungs, and like this residue of, of stale oxygen that we hardly ever breathe out. What happens when we laugh? Our brain produces a festive cocktail of hormones, DOSE. DOSE is an abbreviation for dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphins. Laughing for No ReasonIs laughing easy?Yes, laughing is easy. You can laugh for no reason. I know there are days you feel like laughing is a lot of work. I understand because I have those days too. This morning was one of those moments. I have a lot of stuff going on in my life this morning. I just didn't feel like laughing. Do you ever take out to rejuvenate?Sometimes we get too busy that taking time out sounds like a luxury. The fact is, taking a break from your busy schedule creates room for your brain to rest. You'll be amazed at all the new ideas that come up after resting.Over the years, where we've had our own business, we started to book holidays. We'd basically have a holiday booked for eight to nine weeks, and what was usually around the children's school holidays. We also create a list of all the tasks we need to work on before the holiday and work on them in a sprint. I am a sea lover. It gives me a reason to take a break from my gadgets and creates room for me to rejuvenate. Taking time out doesn't necessarily mean that you have to go on holiday. Have you ever been on TV? What was your experience?I want to share what I learnt about being on TV in this episode. Unfortunately, I cannot share a lot about the show, but I can assure you that you'll get the key takeaways.The filming took place in a hotel in London. What I found really interesting about the day was there was a lot of sitting around and waiting to be called upon to do the next bit of filming. Because ultimately, this show has a script that they're aiming to cover.The start of the story was interviewing me and asking me about my story about how I got to become the Laughter Man. I was giving them a few different answers about, you know, how it was running my business, how I discovered laughter, how laughter changed my life and how I wanted to change other people's lives with it.I went on to the show, and I did my laughter in front of an audience. There were probably about 1000 people. It was definitely a bit of a factory line. Next, we got a message to get back onto the minibus and head to the theater for a stage show-off. It was a nervous process with a lot of waiting. All I can say is that it went well. Last week, we were on holiday, and we went house hunting. We saw housing that ticked all our checkboxes, but something in our guts was telling us something was wrong. Scared, perhaps? Or maybe confused?This was an experience Pete went through during his trip to the WOMAD Festival in 2016. As he passed by, he heard the bellowing laughter of a crowd. Thinking a comedian was on-stage, he decided to let the noise pique his curiosity and walked in to join them. He never expected to see loads of people on the floor just uncontrollably giggling the wind out of their lungs. There was no comedian. What the heck is going on?Laughter Yoga. Those were the words written on the sign by the entrance. What on earth is "Laughter Yoga?"Laughter, as you probably already know, is the natural response of the human body towards something either physically or mentally humorous. It's often an involuntary thing, an expression of amusement. But there's more to laughter than just a reaction, or an expression. To many Laughter Yogis like Pete Cann, Laughter is relief. These yogis really take the term "laughter is the best medicine" on a whole new level.No, Laughter Yoga isn't comedy. It's actually a very unique (and effective) mindset or mood exercise. It's not only for entertainment, but also for one's well-being. At first, it may seem awkward or downright weird. But there's a science to this as well. When you start practicing voluntary laughter and start pumping the oxygen through your system, your brain starts to believe that whatever it is you're laughing about, is actually funny.It all starts snowballing from there. The awkwardness disappears, the "HA HAs" begin heaving out on their own, then you find yourself on the ground- or halfway there- head hanging low and arms around your stomach. By the end of the session, you're all teary-eyed and red. However, most importantly, you feel much better. Laughter Yoga recharges your mood and gives you the much-needed positive energy that your brain needs to function beyond your optimal capacity. I do not want you to feel like laughter is all about fun. There is a serious side to it. Laughter brings about healing, helps us sleep better and feel better. My vision is divided into three significant goals:Laugh from a stage: I can visualize myself in front of 2000 people in San Francisco, and Chloe, my wife, is sitting in the audience at a tech conference. I'm the Energizer, and I've got that 10-minute slot, just post-lunch, you know, that little slump when we're in a conference or functions. Everyone is just a bit like, feeling a bit full up.Write a book: By the end of next year (2022), I want to be a published author. I want to write a book about sharing my story about my past and how laughter has been an integral part of my past. Have you ever wondered how I became Pete Cann, the laughter man? This episode is for you. I will be sharing my laughter journey with you. And hopefully, you'll enjoy the story of my journey.In 2016, I was at a festival called WOMAD back in the UK in the southwest of the UK, and I was walking through the Arboretum, and I heard laughter. I thought to myself; there must be a comedian or some funny act going on. As I walked around the corner, I was greeted by 100 people just lying on the floor laughing for what I thought no reason at all. When I looked a bit more closely, a sign said they said laughter yoga daily at 11 now. I thought to myself that was crazy and weird—just people lying on the floor laughing. Regardless, I want to be part of them. The following day, we did lots of different laughing and breathing exercises run by Curly Steve. I was sold! Even after the session was over, I couldn't stop laughing.A couple of months later, my wife, Chloe, and I went for a date night. We did the same laughter yoga system, but this time it was different since Curly Steve was not running it. I didn't enjoy it much. The following year (2017), I did WOMAD again. They were four days of laughter, and I attended all of them. I became addicted to laughter. WOMAD started bringing laughter into my day-to-day life and started laughing through some adversities; you know, I've been through some quite traumatic stuff financially. There were some tough times back in sort of 2017 where laughter me to sort of stay sane.In 2018 there was no laughter yoga at WOMAD since Steve decided to stop doing it. 2019, we went on a retreat with business owners. I suggested a laugher session, and they agreed to run the session on a Saturday, and everybody was laughing uncontrollably, yet I had no experience in running a session. The following day, as we talked about what we want to do in that year, my goal to have a laughter club.I got my first booking then, and it was time for me to get some training. A good morning routine determines how good your day will be since you have everything planned and set out clearly. Doing things such as exercise, reading and writing a journal, and silent affirmations, set you up in good moods to start one's day. I stay positive through writing a list of things that I would love to accomplish the following day and working towards achieving them since they make me feel good. Being grateful, for instance, through laughter, ignites positivity within oneself as the mind absorbs the energy of being grateful.Positivity and good vibes are attributes of how we choose to see and analyze situations. In today's show, we talk about time as a tool of happiness. Are the things we do worth our effort and time? We don't have to do everything however busy it makes us feel since we don't get closer to where we need to be as it is not what excites us. We all need to identify the things that we really like doing, and those that we don't like doing. The things that do not interest us, take longer to accomplish due to procrastination and since they do not excite us, the thought of carrying out the task is crazy. For instance, I can identify bringing laughter to the world, and interacting with people through radio, as my geniuses as well disqualify writing show notes as my genius. Therefore, I outsource for services I don't like doing since the people who do them actually find the tasks interesting and enjoyable to do. Once you identify what you love doing and what you don't like doing, you will save on time spent on what you don't like doing and invest more time on tasks that actually interest you. You will spend more time doing things that make you happy and avoid getting overwhelmed by things that seem tasking to do. Do you know your value? Sometimes, we tend to dim our light and play small just to fit in a situation. We fear losing on a deal for asking for what we are worth and end up settling for less than our value. In this episode, I'd like us to talk about knowing your value. If there is one great favour you can do for yourself, it is sticking by your value. Sometimes you'll miss out on opportunities because they offer less than your worth, and that is totally okay. Opportunities that fit your worth will come.I know people who feel like I charge too much for my sessions. What they don't value is the amount of energy and the amount of knowledge that they are paying for. They're not just paying for that 30-minute session. They're paying for the fact that I've had 11 years or 12 years in business, as well years of properly looking into laughter yoga and working out how to be the best laughter, Yogi.One would want to argue that they can learn laughter yoga from other podcasts and YouTube channels, but I can tell you for free it is not the same. There is more to that. For instance, I spent years as a DJ, and I learnt how to read a crowd. I can tell when I'm losing my crowd, and I have the necessary knowledge on how to re-engage them. I did not learn this overnight. I have learnt over time. It cost you money and time to be the person you are today. Always keep in mind, you are worth what you believe you are worth. If you believe you're worth a certain amount of money, put a zero at the end and give it a go and see that people will value you for that. Imagine belonging to a community that you have to laugh with every day. Wouldn't that be awesome? The good news is, you do not have to wait any longer. If you are looking to save more time, you should consider batching. Those who have worked in the hotel industry, especially chefs, can swear by this time-saving technique. What chefs do is prepared all their ingredients for service so that when they are slammed with orders back to back, they won't have to keep starting from scratch.This technique is not limited to the hotel industry. Would you buy laughter from me or would instead pass a laugh?I had a conversation with somebody from the clubhouse, who we were chatting about whether he would buy laughter from me because I've got a couple of courses that I sell laughter courses where people can have a laugh for themselves. I run through the different laughing exercises and get you into a good place. He said he wouldn't buy laughter, but he would pass a laugh to someone and pay to pass laughter.To help you pass laughter, I will be launching Comic Relief 2021. You'll be able to go to a page and, just for a few dollars, pass a laugh on to three people. You'll have the choice of a few different laughs to do, and you get the option to donate to the charity, which will be comic relief to start with. The bigger picture in my mind is that each month I run a different charity. Whenever a fire alarm or a car alarm goes off, we know there is trouble, and there is nothing positive about alarms.
