I would love to know if an extended version of this arrangement exists anywhere on the cutting room floor. I know that there was only one violinist, Lili Haydn, who I'm hoping to have on the podcast as it happens, and two cellists, Gerri Stutyak and Michael Severens. But I think if you kept building this into a full orchestral string arrangement with some timpani or other percussion added, it could have been a pretty amazing piece of music in its own right. As it stands, it's an absolutely perfect piece of music for this portion of the movie and shows that had Tom decided he wanted to score more movies, he would have been perfectly capable of doing so.Note: There is some profanity in the movie clip that is included in this episode. If you want to check out the song ahead of the episode, you can find it here:To listen to the song, go here: https://youtu.be/uk5pFlnfDZUDon't forget to follow me on social media, like, subscribe, and please, leave a rating if you like the show.Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thetompettyprojectBluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/tompettyproject.bsky.socialInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thetompettyprojectYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@thetompettyprojectThreads: https://www.threads.net/@thetompettyprojectAll music, including the theme song, provided by my very best friend Randy Woods. Today on part two of our interview with Lili Haydn on this episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast, we continue our story about how Lili grew up in the most unconventional way in Hollywood and came out of it a Grammy winner in spite of the amazing conclusion we discuss today. In part one, Lili gave us the background on her mother Lotus Wienstock who was a trail blazing stand-up comedian who wrote books like The Lotus Position & opened The Comedy Store's Belly Room for female comedians. She  found herself as one of the new faces of stand-up comedy just prior to the 80's comedy boom that happened shortly thereafter. Lili's bond with her mother was palpable in this episode but we also learn more about her father, a man named David Jove who counted among his friends the Grateful Dead's L.S.D. connection/soundman Bear as well as musician Peter Ivers whose death as the host of a show conceived by Jove is still an unsolved mystery today, This was one of those episodes that left us emotionally spent as Lili was incredibly open and honest about her complicated relationship with her father. She didn't hold back which was a very brave thing to do in an interview and we thank her for it. Take a listen to part two of our interview w/ Lili Haydn on this episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast.

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we take a listen to part one of our conversation with Lili Haydn, the Grammy winning composer and performer who  has perhaps the most fascinating and most brutally honest story we've ever recorded. It was so jam packed and unbelievable that we didn't even get a chance to ask her about what it was like starring in Easy Money with Rodney Dangerfield and Joe Pesci. And if you are a listener to this podcast, does that sound like something Josh would pass up? Well, part one of our interview with Lili will tell you all you need to know as to why. Oh the things we learn on this episode. Lili and Josh connect on the fact that he was once at a Mose Allison show and Lili asked to perform with him at the Catalina in Los Angeles back in the 90s. What are the odds? But it's Lili's mother, stand-up comedian/writer Lotus Weinstock and her father David Jove that take up the bulk of the conversation. And for good reason. We touch on subjects as diverse as performing with Jimmy Page, her mother founding The Belly Room at The Comedy Store, Lenny Bruce, the infamous Redlands bust of the Rolling Stones, New Wave Theater, The Source Family, Stanley Owsley, Chevy Chase, Peter Ivers and Joan Rivers. All we can tell you is that this barely scratches the surface. This part one episode of the Rarified Heir Podcast is one of the most intense, harrowing, amazing and truthful episodes we have ever done. Take a listen.

Our dublab DJs have united for a nonstop marathon of mixes and shows to carry you through the end of our 2023 membership drive. This is a special episode by Chandler Poling, who hosts Studio Soundtracks every 1st Tuesday of the month, 9-10am. This very special episode of Studio Soundtracks sashays its way into the theme of musicals – specially musicals in television. For years, TV programs often surprise their audiences by having an episode explore the musical genre and have their characters belt out tunes and change up the pace. From Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Scrubs, this has been a trick of the trade, however this show is dedicated to the challenge of embedding musical numbers into the reality of their shows. THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL explores a 60's Industrial Musical inside the 5th episode of the final season – written by Thomas Mizer and Curtis Moore – and GINNY & GEORGIA had the task of writing a full high school musical – written by Lili Haydn and Ben Bromfield – set within the drama of the show. By supporting dublab, you support an ecosystem of generous artists and activists – please consider becoming a sustaining member today! THOMAS MIZER & CURTIS MOOREThomas Mizer and Curtis Moore are an accomplished songwriting and storytelling team whose work has appeared on screens and stages around the world. On television, they are best known as the composers for the hit Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, resulting in two Emmy nominations and a 2022 Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best Original Song Written for TV. Recipients of the prestigious Fred Ebb Award “for excellence in musical theatre songwriting,” Mizer & Moore's stage credits include the award-winning romantic mystery Triangle and upcoming musicals for Universal Theatrical Group and Michael Cassel Group. LILI HAYDN2x nominated GRAMMY® winner Lili Haydn is a composer, songwriter, singer, and violinist. Well known for her 6 critically acclaimed major label recordings as a solo artist, and her legendary collaborations with the likes of Herbie Hancock, Jimmy Page & Robert Plant, and George Clinton's  P-Funk All Stars, Lili has taken her unique melodic and harmonic sensibility and emotionally penetrating musical voice into composing for film and television with 18 feature films/documentaries to her credit (including ANITA, The House That Jack Built, Sundance Selects' DriverX), and the hit Netflix series Ginny & Georgia. Lili is a BMI Award winner, won Best Music at the Milan International Film Festival, and is enjoying the recent releases of Oscar winner Freida Mock's documentary RUTH: Justice Ginsburg in Her Own Words, the powerful Netflix documentary Split at the Root, and the record breaking success of Season 2 of Ginny & Georgia. As the daughter of iconic feminist comedienne Lotus Weinstock, and a graduate of Brown University in political science, Lili is a lifelong activist, and believes music and stories have the power to heal and uplift…important now more than ever.  BEN BROMFIELDBen Bromfield is a four-time BMI-award-winning composer for film, television, and video games out of Boston, MA. A lifelong jazz pianist, Ben graduated Berklee College of Music in 2010 and has lived in Los Angeles ever since. He is known for his score of the Dreamworks television series, Boss Baby: Back in Business, and the Netflix series, Ginny & Georgia. Ben is an expert in animation scoring, having composed the score for the Dreamworks Where's Waldo? series and Oddballs on Netflix. In film, Ben has made his mark scoring such indies as BOOM!: A Film About The Sonics, a documentary telling the story of one of the most influential 60's rock bands, The Salzburg Story, a romantic comedy which won ‘Best Feature Film' at the California International Film Festival, and Borderland, an action/thriller featuring performances by Bruce Dern and Peter.

Grammy-winning composer, songwriter, violinist, and vocalist Lili Haydn sits down to discuss her incredibly diverse career as well as focus on her two new scores for Split At The Root and Ginny & Georgia: Season 2 (co-composed with Ben Bromfield). Lili talks about her childhood and how despite music always being part of her life, it was not always the clear career path. Lili talks about her passions in activism and why she got her degree in political science from Brown, and how that led to a career in music eventually. We discuss her solo records, being part of the Grammy-winning band Opium Moon, her work as a session musician, and her composing work. Lili talks extensively about her new score for the documentary Split At The Root (soundtrack out now from Node Records), and how the plights of these mothers seeking asylum affected her approach to the music. We also take a look at the music for the hit-series Ginny & Georgia, and how she collaborated with composer Ben Bromfield to find the tone of the show as well as write songs like the popular "Marriage Is A Dungeon". Both Split At The Root and Ginny & Georgia are streaming on Netflix. Lili's passion for music and storytelling is infused into every ounce of her being, and getting to sit down and explore her process and approach is a true joy and inspiration. Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we have and we promise you, one of the most unique, fascinating, jaw dropping, emotional and sometimes shocking interviews we've ever had on the podcast. Today we are talking to Grammy-winning musician/composer/vocalist/violinist Lili Haydn, whose sophomore album from her band Opium Moon Night and Day is up for another Grammy next month. She's also a composer, has recorded six solo albums and performed with everyone from Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, Herbie Hancock, Nusrat Fateh Ali Kahn, Roger Waters, The Jayhawks, Tom Petty and Parliament/Funkadelic to name just a few. Talking to Lili was frankly, unlike anything we have covered before on any episode. Lili and host Josh Mills talked for a long time which is why this is a two-part episode. There was just too much amazing stuff, we couldn't cut any of it. We talked about her comedian/author/writer mother Lotus Wienstock, a free spirit who not only was engaged to Lenny Bruce but became one of the beloved comedians of her era. She was a trail blazer and influential stand-up comedian and was loved and respected by contemporaries like Richard Pryor, Jay Leno, Bill Maher, Sandra Bernhard and Jerry Seinfeld, She excelled in her own personal and inclusive brand of comedy that was as much a shared audience experience as stand-up could be. She was the impetus behind The Comedy Store founding “The Belly Room,” where only women could perform, in an era when comedy was essentially a men's only club. Lotus also wrote a fantastic book called The Lotus Position, changed her name twice and had her music recorded by Ritchie Havens. And that's just the beginning. Lili's father David Jove is a mythical figure himself. He was known as “King Acid David” in the mid-sixties due to fact that he was one of the first ever to mass-produce L.S.D. A friend of The Rolling Stones, he may or may not have been directly responsible for infamous “Redlands” bust of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Marianne Faithfull and others in 1967. He was also a colleague of Stanley Owsley The Grateful Dead soundman and L.S.D. aficionado, created two early music video shows including New Wave Theater which mixed punk rock, SCTV and SNL alums and was hosted by enigmatic host Peter Ivers whose unsolved murder we discuss on the episode. There is so much to unpack in our conversation with Lili in part one of this episode that it frankly left us a little spent. And oh yeah, Lili did this interview while quarantining at home with her second bout of Covid, a real trooper. All I can say is, buckle up….this is the Rarified Heir Podcast.

Happy Martin Luther King Jr Day! We have a special show today. It's one that honors MLK and celebrates the fact that music is returning to the White House! It's been a vast, cultural wasteland for the past four years, but I got some great news about the musical treats in store as the Biden-Harris administration officially begins in just two days. I'll fill you in, and then bring on Lili Haydn and Marvin Etzioni. They're two artists who both have new music out dealing with the strange times we're living through right now. They each have a song perfect for MLK Day and, although they don't work together regularly, they're old friends who have written songs together, including one that's on Lili's new album, that we'll also hear today. The old adage goes something like "music hath charms to soothe the savage breast". Yes, I know. I thought it was beast too, but it's breast. Either way, it does. And today, we welcome music back to the White House. Welcome back music. We really missed you!

In our debut episode, Jeff and Mike discuss an important topic: How to navigate the fallout that inevitably follows the death of a patient. A patient's death can conjure "long lost relatives", along with their attorneys. Experience has taught us if they smell blood in the water, they'll bite. What can physicians do to protect themselves from family members who want to pursue frivolous litigation? Opening and closing music written and produced by Grammy award winning artists: Lili Haydn and Itai Disraeli (performed by The Service Cats).
